- Thanks for Aaron and Kai-kun helping me take down the Manpuku Quarter Pizza from Pizza-La.
What do you think about some of the toppings?
And the price?
Tip: If you are thinking of buying pizza from one of the major chains there are more deals to be had mid-week that will save you some money.

Ouch! That's a lot for a pizza! Thanks for providing the conversions.
Sure is. And it wasn't a pizza I would normally want to spend that much on either ;)
Thanks for the vid! Glad to see Kai-kun and Aaron again! That entire pizza was unappetizing to me! lol!
Yeah, we needed a better location to eat a huge pizza... but it was getting dark and Kai-kun would have been off in a flash had we gone to a park ;) I much prefer my pizza to taste like a classic pizza, but for a video I think this served well
Critical Eats Japan It was definitely interesting! But yes, a classic pizza taste is always my preference!
Minus the egg, I definitely would try this pizza. 🍕 Looks really good!! 😋 Once again, Kai-kun stole the show!! He's so adorable!! 😀
Apart from the smudges on my side mirror, he was very well behaved ;)
Critical Eats Japan That’s pretty good for a little one!! Hope he will be in some future videos. Too cute lol
That's exactly what I was thinking he is adorable and I'm thinking his opinion is the one I'd listen to first on how good the pizza is!!!!!
Kai-kun was absolutely adorable, as always. He's grown quite a bit since his last appearance. The price of the pizza is pretty much what theme parks out here in LA charge. So that tells you how expensive that is. As for corn and mayonnaise, it's very popular with our Latino population. They slather mayonnaise on roasted corn and sprinkle Tajin (chili-lime salt) very liberally. Oh, we got the Coke Frozen. There's a pic on the Whitfield's Patreon comparing it to an Icee slushie. We'll do a review of it when we get a chance. Thanks again for sending it!
Oh yeah, I bought some of that Tajin salt when I was in Mexico last year! I wonder if I still have some in the cupboard... And thanks for letting me know about the Coke... I never seem to get notifications for that. I will check it out. Also, I am currently in discussion to do some sort of a collab with the Whitfields in the near future... ;)
Little Dude is a good eater! Very interesting video seeing Japanese pizza. Thanks.
Over here in Canada, the pizza chain "Boston Pizza" makes a Spicy Perogy pizza. Sour cream, bacon, Cactus Cut Potatoes, pizza mozzarella, cheddar, green onions and a dollop of sour cream. It actually is really tasty. I remember having pizza hut in Japan 20+ years ago and they had teriyaki chicken back then. They used mayo as the sauce and had teriyaki chicken and corn topped with cheese. It was interesting.
I don't know about putting them on a pizza, but I like perogies... I think teriyaki chicken is just one of those classic flavours that never goes away. And you're right, it is interesting. I bet my Japanese friends would be puzzled if I told them that corn, potato, or mayo, are not a pizza thing elsewhere... ;)
Mmmmmmm my mouth’s watering for some Pizza, Interesting Toppings!!
They are too interesting ;)
Great review. Love it when Aaron is in them. Pizza looked pretty crazy. That soft boiled egg.. man was that soft. Like even the white. Uggh. I have to have the white cooked. Interesting food choices Japan does. That little kid is good in a video. I was waiting for him to just start grabbing food. lol. Peace.
Me too ---always like having Aaron along. I have some spicy noodles he needs to help me tackle at some point in the future... ;) And yeah, that egg was meant to essentially serve as a sort of dipping sauce I guess, and in fact it was pretty good. Once in a while Kai gets a bit excited, but overall he likes hanging out and eating random stuff with us
I got pizza yesterday at the old school place down the road... I got bacon jalepeno and artichoke... the lady acted like it was super weird, but those were all toppings they had listed on the menu. That's one of the best pizzas you can get
I've never had artichoke on a pizza either ---but hey, it was on her menu! You couldn't have been the first person ever to have ordered it ;)
Pizza's in australia range in price. You can get your basic sort of value pizza at dominos for $5. Then there's the more gourmet style pizzas that are bigger as well for about $20. $5 is great when you're craving a simple pepperoni. $20 is awesome value when you can get something with steak and prawns.
Yeah, our Dominos isn't that cheap, but you can get more normal pizzas there for less than what we paid here. Pepperoni is one thing that is very hard to come by outside of a pizza topping. I actually remember getting slices for a dollar back in the day ---they had sparse toppings, but hey, they were a buck and hit the spot.
Very tasty, I love an egg on pizzas.. Great review guys. :)
I didn't realize it was a thing until a year or two ago... Usually it is cooked more though, right?
Well usually its cooked with the pizza so yeah! the one you had looked poached.
Kai-kun is so adorable
And he loves his pizza!
That Pizza looks delcious. How are you doing Critical Eats Japan like the channel man.
Thanks, much appreciated. Had better pizza, but all in all, things are good...
Holy moly pizza is expensive in Japan. I would go for the sausage and cheese quarter of that bad boy. The little fella is adorable.
Yeah, and somehow it doesn't quite do it for me... maybe because of the mayo ;)
Kai-kun here definitely stole the show for me. He is adorable. The potato, mayo, corn, green pepper combination sounds good but Idk if I would want to buy a whole pizza of it.
He does that ;) I wasn't a fan of the potato portion ---I would order an entire bulgogi pizza though!
lovely Pizza .. interesting pizaa is so expensive in Japan.. Lovely little Kai Kun
Yeah, we got the cheap sushi, but other places got the cheap pizza... ;)
Yay egg corn and potato pizza hehehe great video Paul really enjoying the content
Hey, yeah, thanks ---nobody can say that those things are not interesting at least... ;)
Kai-kuns reaction to pizza is the same as mine lol. Looks good and interesting! Pretty cool to get 4 different kinds in 1.
He was all over that at first! And yeah, 4 different flavours is great for a video, and also if you have one you don't care for, you have hope the next one will be better... ;)
Dang, the number of times you can go to yoshinoya for that price
I hear ya!
Wow that is so different but very interesting...I'd eat it!
I would too ---well, not again ;)
omg he is just so adorable to watch! Corn and hotdogs was a big thing when i was in Italy years ago. I enjoyed it. Thanks for the video, always love watching u.
Corn and hotdogs as a pizza topping? In Italy? I never would have thought, but maybe that is where they got the idea from... ;)
I really like the idea of mayo and corn as pizza toppings, not sure why. I don’t think I can find somewhere in the states around me to make that though, so I might have to try to make it myself!! Very good video, although the car may not be the most ideal place for pizza ;)!
Yeah, you might have to make that yourself ;) And also yeah, the car was a bit cramped to eat pizza... but at least it kept Kai contained
Well when in Rome, eat the egg and corn pizza.
You got it! Actually, the egg was pretty good ;)
One of my friends grew up in Japan and was so happy to find a pizza place here that offered corn as a pizza topping.
Haha, nice! It is totally what you are used to and I guess I don't notice the corn as much as the potato... ;)
Interesting pizza worth giving it a try.
Definitely! though I will probably order something more Western next time ;)
Sounds like an interesting pizza. The Japanese love for mayo just amazing me 😂 I like the fact you’re trying new things though.
Yeah, they put it on stuff like takoyaki or okonomiyaki so I guess they figure, why not pizza...? ;)
If I get a pizza craving, I go to Costco food court, 300 yen for a large slice. Pizza LA is too expensive even though there is a Pizza Hut and Pizza LA near me.
Yeah, for sure! You can't beat Costco ---I always bring home a couple whole pizzas whenever I go, and eat pizza daily for a week or two after... ;)
Ohhhh.....interesting pizza 🍕 I like the egg packaging. I would try it, but do they have a smaller size?
Yeah, they also have a 25cm size. We chose the bigger one so that each of us could get a slice of each quarter. Well, Kai didn't really eat as much as us, but it still worked out apart from being a little cramped in the car ;)
Pizza where I live in western New York has also gotten expensive so we almost never order it anymore. Mayo on pizza doesn’t sound good at all and the egg is definitely strange.
Yes ---for sure. Outside of a video i would not order this. Dominos has better deals and more normal pizza. Funny, since I was never a Dominos fan before I came to Japan... ;)
I would try each flavor. I'm intrigued by the bulgogi flavored pizza. That sounds really good.
Bulgogi was so good ---I would order that again. None of the others though ;)
Was there no sit-down area? Car kinda cramped, being one of those huge cars made in Japan, lol, cheers!
Nope ---just a take out counter. We thought about going to a park, but it was starting to get dark
It all looks really good, bulgogi, teriyaki chicken, etc... The quarter selection is a cool way to try different flavors. But it just seems a bit expensive for a 14 inch, I'd expect it more for around $20.
It's more than just a bit expensive. And yeah, the quarter idea is good if you want to try a variety of toppings ---I'm just not a fan of most of the toppings you have to settle for ;)
Hello. Very cool ! I would absolutely wanted to taste that. Everything sounded strange but I'd put the potato/mayo/corn the last too. I don't care chicken on the pizza either but I would like soft egg. Price was bit high. Thanks 👍😀
The egg was kinda like a dipping sauce I guess ;)
Very interesting.. Never saw such a 🍕
Yeah, we kinda picked the most unique one we could find ;)
Cute little kid, the pizza idk if i could try that just very different from what im used to lol
Me too. But I know people are interested in seeing it ;)
thats very true you are the brave person to show us :P
Just came here after seeing in an anime that mayo was a pizza topping and this video popped up when I googled it...
P.S. I bet this little man is not so little anymore lol
Yeah, corn and mayo are among the pizza crimes committed here ;)
What a very interesting looking pizza, I love egg on pizza but I cook it into the topping lol. This looks quite delicious actually and very different
It had just about everything but normal pizza toppings. My favourite was the bulgogi, but the runny egg was actually a good little sauce in a way ---very tasty!
Dang , I agree that price tho. Is it because ingredients are expensive, like how everything is expensive in Hawaii?
Not sure, but I suspect it is something like that. Maybe the cheese in particular
I normally have an alfunghi (.mushrooms) with onion as an extra topping, maybe fresh tomato and peppers too. Putting potato on pizza isn't as unusual as you may think. Here in the UK, we have something called a London Pizza, which is a plain margherita (cheese and tomato) with a serving of chips (French fries to you non-Brits) slung on top.
Interesting ---yet somehow, I can actually see how fried potatoes would work kinda like a poutine sort of thing maybe... ;) At least better than these boiled ones
Well, chips often come as a side dish in pizzerias here, so it's just a way of saving extra packaging and wrapping by putting them directly on the pizza.
Sweet a pizza review great review Paul 👍🏻🍕
Kai-kun sounds like Cancun (the town), is there any relationship between the two?
His name is Kai, but in Japanese they add the suffix "kun" to little boys names to make them sound cute. Girls get "chan." Kinda like how Bob would become Bobby in English I guess...
Weird toppings but always interested in trying something new
Yes! Great attitude
Very delicious looking pizza yum
Not every slice was created equal, but it was good to try a variety ;)
that egg in the middle so delicious awesome pizza
Food Travel Dude awwwww yeeeeeeeh
Haha, yeah!
Most pizza places here will do whole or half/half. Looks good!!!
True ---the quarter thing is big here... maybe for people who just can't decide ;)
Weird pizza flavours in Japan, pefer seafood pizza and pepperoni and Hawaiian pizza are my favorites :))
Yeah, pizza here is very different. Corn, mayo, potato, teriyaki, seaweed... The best place to get a "normal" pizza is Costco ;)
The consistency of that egg almost made me gag! I could not eat that.
Like a dipping sauce ;)
Yiiiikes!!!! Egg... Um.... I'd try it.. But.... #scary ... And whoa!! That price. Wow... $$$$$$
It was actually pretty good! ;)
Wow 23 quid!!! It looked impressive but it's so expensive for fast food! Thank you for showing us!
I wonder if this would be considered fast food ---that's a good question I need to ask...
Just discovered your channel and really enjoy your reviews. Was it ever explained why pizza cost so much in Japan? Certainly not ingredient so perhaps labor? I had Pizza Hut in Hong Kong one time and it's worse than high school cafeteria pizza!
I think it might be the ingredients. Cheese is quite expensive here, and they do put a lot of intricate or unconventional toppings. I would assume the workers are just getting close to minimum wage... At least there is no tipping in Japan, so that kinda helps if you get it delivered I guess... ;)
Kai-kun was super into that pizza in the beginning. I bet he's entertaining to watch. In my opinion I think pizza should have no more than 4-5 toppings not counting sauce and cheese. I would be willing to try that pizza, but I couldn't do the egg. I guess I've been conditioned to believe the white should be cooked.
He's got a lot of energy, for sure. And he loves pizza too! The quarter pizzas are something quite common here --I think it is for people who just can't make up their mind. At least if you don't like a certain topping, it will only be on a slice or two and then you move on to something hopefully better... ;)
Do they deliver, that looks so awesome
They do ;)
I would try all those flavors, don't think I'd like most of them but one never knows until you try it. I wonder how a Little Ceasar's Pizza place would go in Japan, here they do a 36mm/14 in. pizza for $5.00. The little guy is really well behaved.
I really don't know... Sbarros was in Japan for a couple of years but they are all closed down now. It may be a hard sell. They would definitely have to change their menu to adapt to the Japanese taste. And that $5 pizza would probably have to go for $15 it would seem...
Oh it pizza time.paul that look yum yum ace vid
Pizza is still pizza I guess ;)
Yummm that egg looks so good! Teriyaki chicken sounds like the best flavour 🍕🍕 I would not want corn on my pizza..
The egg was good! Not sure I'd want it on a normal pizza, but here it kinda helped ;)
That all sounds good to me. 👍🏽
I agree with about 25% of it ;)
Ive always eaten Pizza-La at the baseball stadiums so I only know 4 of their flavors but its great drunk pizza! lol. And until i watched this video, I thought it was Pizza- L.A. like Los Angeles! lol
Haha ---too funny. LA isn't really known for it's pizza... so I guess that kinda makes sense why they are making all them weird ones without batting an eye... ;)
No tomato sauce?! That's interesting. Is that common in Japan?
Dude that pizza looks hella good what kind of pizza thats wacky from pizza hut lol just having sushi for breakfast what a great way to go hahah
Sushi for breakfast? Why not?
Of course, I'd try it, not sure if I'd like it though.
30 bucks here in so cal will get you quantiy and or quality....I'm not supposed to eat cheese but every once in a while, ya know. I would try all of those toppings.
That's a good point. Dominos is probably the cheapest option here ---I think they have 2for1 deals too. and to be honest, a Western flavour that I prefer ;)
Future food RUclipsr there 😊 Strange pizza with unusual toppings, but way to much money for a pizza.
Yep. The cheapest and maybe best normal pizzas may be the ones I grab when I get a chance to hit Costco... ;)
Very interesting toppings but strange how they change so much for it. Some of the other food you’re shown us are bargains compared to pizza
Yeah, I guess it may be like how sushi is more expensive in other places... And how they put their own twist on it too ;)
I'm always down to try interesting pizza. Tuna and olive pizza in north africa is probably my top fave
Oh wow, that does sounds interesting ---at least less bland than potato and mayo ;)
@@CriticalEatsJapan being canadian, potato and mayo are big components in our food group lmao I'd probably like it Haha
Awww he's so adorable
He's got a lot of energy!
All kinds of "traditional" pizza on their site!
Don't be fooled. Just kidding ---they do have a few normal ones, but that would not have made for such an interesting video
Great collab. It's like a sampler pizza but a super expensive one. Do you have any idea why pizza in Japan is so costly? I have always wondered, is it just a rarity or what? Thanks
Yeah, that is a good way to put it. They have a whole line of Quarter pizzas, maybe for people who can't make up their mind... Pizza must be expensive because of the toppings. Not sure, but it doesn't have the image of a cheap item no matter where you get it ---though you can get deals that make it more reasonable, like takeaway from Dominos etc...
$40 CAD for a pizza is pretty expensive but I would definitely try that pizza.
Yeah, I have found that the best place to get decent normal pizza in Japan is at the Costco foodcourt... ;)
@@CriticalEatsJapan Yes, Costco pizza is pretty good and great value for the money. $11 CAD for a giant 18" pizza loaded with cheese. You should make a video showing what Costco pizza looks like in Japan. I know they have different options in the US and what we have in Canada so I wouldn't be surprised if Costco Japan has different pizzas too.
I’d be interested in trying each of those flavours but couldn’t do the soft boiled egg 🤢 loved the video and the kid is always so cute really awesome how active his father is in his life
After the bulgogi, the egg was maybe my favourite part ;) But yeah, it is pretty awesome ---thanks for watching!
Wow that really looks like a interesting combo of pizza I made a cheeseburger pizza with pickles so I guess that's not too different from what I made lots of unique toppings for sure looked like it may have been good flavor combo great video .
That pizza sounds great. I would use frickles instead of plain pickles!
That sounds interesting ---good to experiment. Was it good enough to make again though? ;)
Critical Eats Japan yes it was good enough I made a video on my channel of what it looked like was actually good
OK, I will check it out
I would try the four but not with the egg it seems a little over the top. 30 dollars for a pizza is pretty high wow.
Yeah, definitely to get the variety ---even the egg helped make for a better video ;)
For me it's just thin crust Italian pepperami and more pepperami and lots of herbs.
Egg on a pizza ! It's bad enough having pineapple on , Italians must roll their eyes in horror at this one.
Not just Italians... though the crust we got was actually called an Italian style ;)
lol so weird but egg on pizza actually sounds kinda good
Yes! It was actaully!
Wow looks good I’d try it I’ll try anything once lol
Good attitude, you might find something new that you actually like
I love bulgogi! i never got to try it on a Pizza... Yet!
Im not going to say anythiong about the mayo ( again ), but this Pizza acoualy looks good!!
Yes! It's so good ---on or off a pizza ;)
The Korean bulgogi sounds delicious on pizza, but probably without the egg. haha
Haha! It was! I would order that quarter again for sure
Chicken pizzas really popular in NZ.
I know corn and mayo is a real big thing in Mexico, I’ve seen it eaten as a street food. But I myself don’t think I would enjoy it period, not even on a pizza lol! The other flavors sounded interesting.
As far as pizza is concerned I want it to actually taste like a traditional pizza, with tomato sauce and Italian herbs etc. Next time I'm in Mexico I will try to pay closer attention to what they put on their pizzas
Critical Eats Japan I couldn’t agree more. I love my traditional pepperoni and cheese. My kids would kill me if I tried to feed them corn and mayo on pizza. Next time you’re in Mexico look for corn on the cob, covered in mayo and they sprinkle, either chili powder or paprika on it. It’s wildly popular.
OK, I will. I've actually seen corn served at festivals here ---usually grilled but not sure if they put anything on it or not...
Critical Eats Japan Sounds good my friend! Also the street food I am referring to is called “ Mexican Corn on the Cob (Elote)”. It may be worth trying to make and taste test on a video!
I could not stop looking at that cute baby eat! ❤️
Do you think pineapple belongs on pizza?
Pineapple is good on pizza. I have ordered the Hawaiian pizza from Dominos here once and it came with ham. pineapple, and corn... :P
Critical Eats Japan good answer. Pineapple pizza with Canadian bacon (ham) is my favorite 😍. I don’t know about the corn part but again, that’s Japan. Seems like corns is a popular for many things
Dang. What a expensive 🍕!!! It looks good though!!!
The egg was actually really good on this ---but overall I prefer a tomato based sauce for my pizza
I would love to try the teriyaki chicken pizza!
I think it is a popular flavour here
It shouldn't be too hard to make it here myself. After all, we have all the ingredients for it in almost any German supermarket. :)
Very true. Maybe it'll catch on and you have the next big craze on your hands. I think it is one of the top flavours at Subway here too
Paul
I eat pizza max upto 300
And here I'll hearing upto 3300.. Something yen!
Pretty expensive! 😆😂😂
Japan is really expensive in terms of food 😎
Japanese food is cheaper, of course. But somehow pizza is more expensive here. We did choose the most exotic one we could find... Others are a little cheaper, but not as interesting ;)
I Would Try It But I Agree Chicken Does Not Go On Pizza.... Where Is Aaron From In The Midwest?
thetopvlogers Iowa
Pizza La not my favorite. The egg NOPE! The toppings without the egg are great though. Price as we both know about average. I love Dominos here and every week have a pizza on Sunday brunch (in a few hours yaaaaa) and usually get a quatro half price for about $20. Great vlog Paul...hard to eat a pizza in a car with 3 people though lol
Me too ---but I figured it was the best for an interesting video. I have heard of a few good NY slice places in Tokyo but have yet to give them a try. 3 in a car is a bit tight, with or without the pizza ---but of course we had to get the "large" ;)
I tried corn on pizza. It works. I like it.
Nice ---are you ready for mayo now? ;)
@@CriticalEatsJapan uhhhhh
I have trouble finding egg appetizing on a pizza. blah. but it doesn't sound too bad. 30 bucks is what i paid for this local pizza place we have here. its really good, but not something i get often due to the price. :D
There are some good breakfast pizzas in the west but they usually have scrambled egg and an assortment of breakfast meats and maybe a few veggies.
it is actually very very nice if you have a well cooked egg, firm/solid yolk and all....this runny kind I can't get behind though, the egg is practically raw.
For me, the soft boiled egg was actually a redeeming part of this pizza. Like a dipping sauce or something. I think Dominos is cheaper and has take out deals, but we just had to try the most unique pizza we could get and I think this has them beat
Try elotes. Corn with mayo and spices eaten off the cob. Very good. And $33 for a pizza!! I'm out. I never thought about potatoes on pizza, but it could work if you used a white garlic sauce as a base.
Hmm, I guess that might be better, or maybe with a pesto sauce... But I am still skeptical ;)
@@CriticalEatsJapan ooohhhh, pesto! Definitely pesto with extra parm and pine nuts!
Such a well behaved little bro.
He is always fun to have on ---I'll have to ask if he has ever watched any of his videos or not...
Kai has watched some of the videos but he doesn’t get a big head about it. He’s more interested in his dinosaurs.
Why do you live in Japan? How long have you lived there? Are u gonna ever live in the USA again?
Why do you keep asking the same thing over and over? Haven't I answered you like 3 or 4 times already...?
I forgot I asked you thanks
Potatoes no thanks on a pizza, where is he tomato based pizzas?
found your channel from your comment on Winston's latest vid.
Let's collaborate a bite together sometime.
Nice! Yeah, that would be pretty cool!
I sent you a private message on Instagram... It may be a bit better to continue the chat there than in RUclips comments.
Corn and mayo not a fan at all, but chicken teriyaki pizza sound and look pretty good
There seems to be a consensus on that. Though I think I'll stick to something more traditional next time I get the chance... ;) I'm just tired of weird pizza...
I saw an episode on Ericsurf6’s channel when he ate pizza and I think it was like $36 bucks or so for what looked like an underwhelming pizza. Why is it so expensive to eat in Japan?
Pizza is less common and maybe the ingredients, particularly the cheese, are more expensive. Maybe it's something like how sushi is usually more expensive outside Japan. But yeah, pizza in Japan is catered to the Japanese taste ---so it'll usually be underwhelming to us. I think the best place to get "real" pizza is actually Costco ;)
Critical Eats Japan haha I have heard that Costco pizza is amazing! Lol
yummy 🤤
Mayonaise on a pizza is pretty much an abomination. I wouldn’t try that. No problem with the corn though.
Haha, pretty much. But you give the corn a pass? How do you feel about the potato? Maybe next time we should get the one with the fish eggs... ;)
I go to my local Dominos in NZ and get their Hawiian pizza, always with no cheese. I can't eat cheese.
Never had a pizza without cheese before. But hey, if it still tastes good and you can't have cheese, why not, right?
Mayonnaise...
Everywhere
Kind of weird flavor combos! I may like bulgogi or teriyaki! Lol, 👍👍👍❤❤❤
The bulgogi was very good!
Bar stool pizza ba boom, Where 's the flop ? 1 bite only ! Where have you been ?
???
@@CriticalEatsJapan Please watch barstool pizza . It is a great you tube site from the States , kind of what you do,but with a hipster twist
Why is your channel called critical eats japan
It has changed name a few times since it started as a band channel but then focused more on food: Critical Hit became Critical Hit Eats Japan and then just Critical Eats Japan...
Yum.. looks tasty , but the price
... lol
That's just it. For me, if I am going to spend too much on a pizza, I want it to taste like an actual pizza. Sure, you can get deals, but we just wanted to show some interesting toppings so had to go with this one ;)
