What a coincidence! I first tried one of these last week at a friends shop, ordered one on Amazon the next day and it should be here tomorrow.
I like the new idea for videos. I'm in the same boat, I really have all the tools I need. Now I'm just slowly replacing the tools that are just ok with better tools. The old tools get distributed out to my vehicle tool kits. Between the wife and I, we have six vehicles.
This screw driver is an absolute bargain for what it is. It works fantastic

I have the regular Vessels in P1 and P2. I got them specifically for JIS Profiled screws - the ones that have the dot on them. They work well for regular Phillips. Their ability to hold a screw is impressive. They have a great balance too. For impacting I have a Dewalt set, with the Acetate handles that I almost hate to strike.
I'm looking forward to this series. I hope it boosts subscribes and views. Rock on !

Hey Tony. Another brand to keep an eye on for US tool reviews is Lisle Tools based in Iowa. A great company to highlight for the DIY guys who might be looking for some of those hard to find specialty tools/ tool kits usually found on a tool truck.

I really enjoy your delivery and comments, and truly appreciate the limited budget for new tools. What about this…You have tools that you’ve used for years. Why not dig through your toolboxes and review the good and bad ones.
Just me, but I don’t enjoy reviewers who use something for a few hours/minutes and then post “expert” opinions.
This helps on the tool budget too.

I've been using Vessel about a year now. I have these, the standard (blue) and the ball grip. For traditional drivers, I prefer the standard blue because they are lighter and have great knurling. I actually tend to grab the Ball Grip most of the time. I love them. I don't use them daily, but i would say they hold up nicely. Much better than the Gearwrench screwdrivers.

I have Vessel’s in red, green, silver, and black ball grip.
Their cross point screwdrivers aren’t Phillips. They’re JIS.
Japanese Industrial Standard. They have a different profile.
You can use a JIS screwdriver on a Phillips screw. But you can’t use a Phillips screwdriver on a JIS screw. JIS screws have a dot on them.
I like my Vessel Impacta for Honda rotor screws.
I’ve ruined them before with impact bits because I couldn’t see the bits were Phillips, not JIS.
    Vessel developed JIS.
    I use a 3lb. hammer.
With three good blows the screws are loose. Then it’s a screwdriver to finish taking them out.
Even treating it like that it’s still good as new.

    • @TonyTheTechnician
      @TonyTheTechnician  Год назад +2

Yes indeed that's very true and I should have mentioned that in the video. Many manufacturers actually removed jis from screwdrivers bc jis is a standard for all cross point screwdrivers in Japan and while Japan really only uses jis tips some manufacturers also make Phillips so they can't technically call them jis tips bc it is a standard not a tip. Sorry if that sounds confusing lol. But I do know exactly what you mean and think it's a great idea for people to own a set of jis screwdrivers. They fit Phillips fasteners very well plus they will work if you ever come across a jis fastener. I really appreciate you commenting that info. My apologies for not mentioning that. When I first found out about jis fasteners I started to think "how many fasteners did I ruin back in the day using a Phillips not knowing they were jis" lol

I picked up a bargain set of those same Vessel tang-thru screwdrivers with flat heads and Pozidriv, and I can confirm that they are really solid and excellent quality. I'd love to get a couple of matching Phillips JIS drivers, but haven't found any at a reasonable price yet. One thing I don't like about Vessel is that their colour schemes are all over the place, so unless you get a complete set in the first place, it can be difficult to build a matching set. I have various Vessel drivers in red, blue, silver and black, there's no consistency across ranges.

While your upgrading your production and filming, I’d suggest more lighting and to try to eliminate shadows as much as possible. Camera and audio are good though.
I like the idea on the format. Love to highlight those quality brands that aren’t just tool truck stuff. Vessel, Wiha, Felo, Fujiya, Knipex, Klein, Channellock, Mayhew, Bondhus, PB Swiss, Wera, SK, Williams, Wright, Proto, Lang, Wilton, Vaughn, Estwing, Trusty-cook, Ridgid, Midwest, Malco, etc

I have been using Vessel screwdrivers for years now they are some of my favorite tools. I work in a factory that has most of its machinery made in Japan so JIS screwdrivers are pretty much a must have. I personally prefer the Ball Grip screwdrivers. You should also check out RW and Anex tools made in Japan.

You have omitted the most important question to be asked about ANY cross-point screwdriver from Vessel in Japan - and that is: Are the cross-point driving heads on the Megadora range JIS (Japan Industry standard) or Phillips..? It is absolutely ESSENTIAL that this is established, as those of us who are perhaps more familiar with the nuances in such different types will know two salient facts. 1) You can use a JIS #2 Crosspoint screwdriver in EITHER a Phillips #2 screw recess, or a JIS #2 Screw recess - and the driver tip will engage positively - and NOT "cam out" as torque is applied to the fastener. However - 2) You CANNOT use a Phillips #2 crosspoint driver in a JIS #2 fastener - without the very real probability that the fastener WILL be damaged when high er torque is applied to the fastener. This is because the Phillips system is DESIGNED to "Cam Out" when high torue is applied to a fastener, in order - supposedly - to protect surrounding structure from damage - if the driver should slip... Apparently, this ethos originated in the early days of metal aircraft skin manufacture, where puncture damage from slipping screwdrivers was a more common occurrence than it is today. In closing, as a (now retired) Licensed Aircraft Engineer for over 50 years, I have spent more than my fair share on Snap-On, Mac and all the other - better quality - brands of fixed and bit-type screwdrivers that you can imagine. In my view, the BEST driver bits are those made by Wiha in Germany - and Wera too - with the former having a Lifetime Guarantee - on their Hex Driver Bits..! that is impressive - and shows the exemplary quality of hand tools in general, that one may expect from German manufacturers. Look at Knipex, as another icon in pliers... Anyway, back to Wera/Wiha 1/4" hex drive screwdriver bits - whether they are Phillips or Posidriv in the cross-point arena. Some are formed with horizontally cut "Teeth" that grip the inside of a fastener head, some have diamond particles embedded into the surface of the driver bit, to do the same thing - and others are plain. ALL of the Phillips driver bits are designed to fit Phillips fasteners, thus the radius at the intersection of each "arm" of the cross will PROMOTE camming out and eventual slippage - despite any teeth or abrasive quality on the driver bit itself. Conversely, and in conclusion, the JIS system does NOT have this "rounding" radius in either its fasteners (identifiable - on most Japanese automotive fasteners - by a "dimple" between two of the adjacent "arms" of each Star or Cross recess in the fastener head) - thus the Vessel JIS Crosspoint screwdrivers are probably the BEST screwdrivers that you can buy today - with the one proviso, that you ONLY use a Posidriv driver tip on a Posidriv fastener..!

Use a white mat? It will reflect more light into the tool. More lighting. Looking forward to the next tool video. What German tools are coming? Stahlwille wrenches? Or some German Locking pliers (vice grip type)?

I was going to do white but I really don't like the look of it. I actually have a light grey one that looks much better ill be using but I did realize most times if your watching on your phone the screen brightness may be set low. I turned mine up and it's very bright. And yes indeed when we get to the wrenches that will be one of them 👍
