  • It is illegal to house Hummingbirds under the Migratory Bird Act. This hummingbird was transported to "Wild Wings of California," a USFWS certified wildlife rehabilitation center in San Dimas, CA as soon as possible.

Hummingbirds are very smart. In proportion their brain is larger than a human's. They remember every flower they've visited and can recognize faces. Truly amazing creatures...

Thanks so much for this video! I had found a hummingbird that was at the brink of death and searched RUclips for feeding ideas. I used your "straw" method (and also the "Q-Tip" method) to feed it...After about 30 sessions at feeding it, it suddenly perked up, opened its' eyes, canted it's head in a questioning manner and suddenly lifted, like a drone, off of my kitchen table, flew up and landed on my ceiling fan. I gently captured it and took it outside where it flew back into the wild. Thanks again!!!

You can too! Just keep an eye out in hummingbird season! Keep feeders in your yard to encourage them to visit! And one day youll see a baby on the ground, its not uncommon!

God bless and thank you for taking care of a little helpless creature. Jesus loves you.

This is lovely to see, and helpful for us, as our dog caught a hummingbird. We are now making sure to take good care of it, and it looks promising. Didn't know about the straw. Our dog even wears a bell. Thanks for sharing this, showing us the gentle side of people, and god bless those folks who likely look after injured birds out of their very own pocket, all hours of the day as volunteers!

I have a humming bird with a broken wing i am giving it honey wirh water o want her to get better but dont want it to suffer

Hello, I have a injured hummingbird for the last two weeks. A female, she has a sprained or possibly broken wing of which she can flutter, but not with the span of the other; hence she cannot fly. I have been feeding her with sugar water that I purchased and doing some study last week, she cannot survive on sugar water alone so I have been giving her milligram amounts of boiled egg yoke for protein. After a week she is gaining strength, but not enough to fly. What should I do with this tiny bird? She takes up to 3 to 4 cc's of fortified sugar water. I am concerned that since she does not fly and is not expending the energy that she used to am I going overboard with feeding her so much carbohydrates in the fortified sugar water that I am giving her. She is very tame now and has taken to me. I feel very badly for this tiny creature. I have raised sparrows and one crow which were released to the wild. But this one... I don't don't know if she will survive or ever fly again. What do you suggest I do with her? She is in a box with sun flowers that I have put in with her and she does go to them as well. I have contacted others, wildlife rehabilitators her in AZ and they say just put her outside and let "nature take its course"... Doing that now will break my heart...

My son just found an injured hummingbird on the sidewalk and he's going to feed him sugar water all night until we can get him to a rehab place in the morning. We think its wing is broken. 😢
