Sure, we all want to sit at the top table and rub shoulders with Europe's elite teams and benefit from the financial rewards, but it's a competition that is so often the cause of multiple disappointments given the gulf in the on pitch ability. Something that is unknown (and unquantifiable) is how a new player will settle in at a new club/new city/new country. Some players take to it like a duck to water and some cannot settle. There's no real way of knowing in advance who will/won't settle. We've had players come in from Japan and hit the ground running but also had Calvin Wilson who was famously "Homesick" for Nottingham!! So taking this into account, does this tip the scales in favour of Idah & Bernardo? We already know they like it here. So how much should we factor that into the equation? Maybe we can do better than Idah.... but what if the guy who is "better" doesn't settle in Glasgow or his family don't settle.... Given the sheer number of positions that we need to strengthen, then I think the "We know what we're getting" factor with Idah/Bernardo tips the balance. We're probably going to have to bring in 6-10 players this summer. If Idah/Bernardo are included in that, then it's at least two in the plus column in terms of decent signings
Hi those are all great points. My concern is the fees (and commensurate wages) for players that are on the face of it back ups. When Celtic brought in Edouard, Jota and CCV they were starters but derisked by the try before you buy model. We're now spending the same for squad rotators? Hmmmm
My tuppence worth: there is no equivalent to this posdcast. Nothing like it. James and Alan should definitely continue this channel, along with a new recruit to replace Enda. I really hope this will be the case. HH to all 3 of you.
All the best Enda, I’m happy to throw my name in the hat on a free transfer if you need a replacement. You can pay me in green M&Ms 😂 Fingers crossed we get the recruitment right this summer. Let’s try be positive about it. 👀
Well for sure our ''recruitment this summer'' just can't be ANY worse than last summer's when we spent a huge big whopping TWENTY THREE MILLION pounds on NINE duds & ALL of them on very silly & very erroneous huge big whopping FIVE YEAR deals & NONE of whom even started in the two most recent Glasgow derbies & them's just the facts sadly & we now have this new guy Mark Cooper as Head of Recruitment/Scouting replacing Lawwell Jnr & Dudgeon & Cooper just might be grateful his predecessors set the Recruitment bar as low as you can possibly get, but the levels of expectation amongst most of my fellow Celtic fans will now be at fever pitch & all that money ''just sitting in the bank'' so just go out & spend it!!!!
@@nicholasmcdade1022 I'm ALWAYS a positive realist when it comes to ALL things Celtic as you well know Nicholas & us ONLY ever operating in a duopoly with the other lot & both of us playing oor fitba in the totally woeful & dire SPFL that totally generates NO kind of serious money & for sure it won't be me screaming & shouting at the likes of Bernardo & Idah if we were to most stupidly buy these two for a huge big whopping TWELVE MILLION pounds, when they miserably fail to deliver in the Champions League, but instead it will ONLY be ALL the social meedya bairns who repeatedly said we have to buy them, who will be venting all their fury & derision when they, as I say, then miserably fail to deliver...
Atalanta play strong teams every week. If you compare opposition teams to weight lifting, our leagues is full of ight weights, therefore if we meet heavy weight, it's harder for us to lift that heavy weight. Lift heavy weight ever week, then a foreign heavy weight isn't so difficult to lift, we are used to it.
For me, last season's SPFL was the very worst in quality ever & that really is saying something, since it's been very poor for the last three decades or so & it's truly sad to see the other Top Five Clubs of Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts & the two Dundee Clubs that Scottish football just absolutely NEEDS to be something like competitive, now just a complete & total shadow of what they once were & most sadly, they'll just continue to plummet to new depths of total crapness & miserable failure with every passing season & it's their continued collective demise that's one of the most pivotal factors in the ever accelerating decline of the overall quality & competitiveness of the whole of Scottish football & everyone just ignores it all.
Good luck to Enda in his new 'adventure' .. his tale of ending up at the wrong end at a Celtic-Rangers match reminds me of an old Billy Connolly sketch sadly much too crude to repeat here! 😊
i wouldn't read the 3 year cycle as a direct reference to players contracts at this minute. but more a generalisation of how we work in the past and today. for instance kyogo likely to outlast the 3 years if only because he just signed a contract even if he's not a 'rodgers player'. and players bought last summer who wont last a year lmao
You need to have longer than 3 yr contracts to ensure peak "asset value" is reached. The 3 yr idea is more about how long you'd typically recycle the squad members (and btw the manager)
Idah has more impact than OH my how did he miss thst at ibrox! OH panics! Sorry like but im amazed im hearing that you believe they are comparable..Also idah has a lot more potential. Crazy talk
Analytics does not take into consideration a player's mentality. Idah stepped up from February and delivered under great pressure. Fir Park and Easter Road were best examples of that. Oh was being brought on and was largely ineffectual (with the odd exception). They may have similar attributes and statistical figures. But I know who I would want in the heat of the battle...
rodgers says he wants pace and power but what that really means is STRIDE and SIZE. it's not about building athleticism as much as it's about finding innate advantages. the EPL is moving toward the NBA in that way. An ange approach of making the best of what you've got makes more sense for us than rodgers trying to go out and find develop or buy players who can square up to real madrid.
Hi Greg - it comes in various shapes and sizes. Bernardo upped the athleticism profile - 5'11, strong but not particularly quick. Would a Victor Wanyama type really help break down low blocks as well as control Euro ties? My own personal image in my head is two players with similar profiles to Fede Valverde either side of McGregor. I realise this is highly unlikely!
We need more height in our defence as teams at home and in Europe targeted us constantly on this. A tall athletic LB and tall powerful CB would be helpful as would someone like Wanyama in midfield.
Sad to hear you are leaving, but obviously you have seen the light & heading to Oz. Along with Hamish, let the exodus continue lol That’s for another year of bringing some balance & reason into our Celtic world 👍🦘🦘
The squad was already weakened after losing Jota, Starfelt, Mooy, etc, and later Abada. Now, we have lost Hart and potentially O'Riley. That was a lot of creativity and goals. We ended up playing our 5th or 6th choice in CD because of injuries and poor recruitment and had no cover for LB if Taylor got injured. As such, we need to remove as many of the non-contributing players in the squad through sales, or loans to other SPL clubs for those with a future. We need 4 quality signings who are first team ready with experience and maybe a couple of loan to buys which have worked well recently.
The pain of losing the likes of Jota, Abada, Starfelt & Mooy were ALL most keenly & sorely felt, simply because NONE of them were ever ANYTHING like adequately & suitably replaced in ANY shape or form & as completed evidenced by the likes of 32 year old Wee Jamesy still being quite literally a better winger than Palma, Kuhn & Yang ALL put together for goodness sake & the pressure is on big time for the new Recruitment guy Mark Cooper & Rodgers to get it right this summer & in the two, three, four transfer windows that follow & of course the levels of expectation amongst most Celtic fans will ONLY ever increasingly reach fever pitch with ALL that money '' just sitting there in the bank doing nothing.''
@@frankbrennan1619 Absolutely agree! Rodgers recognised that when he said that in his first term as manager he watched the training in Dubai and his B squad beat the top 11 because of the quality of depth in the squad. We have allowed that to decline over time when we should have spent on quality to put us well ahead of our rivals and be able to at least compete with clubs in Europe in pot 3 and 4.
Re midfield, sign Wanyama clone, move McGregor back to his best position, the one MOR currently occupies. Also did anyone see the YT video of Bosun Lawal at Fleetwood Town this past season? He must be included in Brendans squad for next season as an 8, not CB where he has been in our youth team for 4 years previously.
Do you really think Callum McGregor in that position can get 18 goals and 18 assists? Doubt it As Juco mentioned, we don't behave in the way a top ruthless club should, which would have already phased McGregor out the first 11 by now, he's nowhere near physical or athletic enough for Europe, yet we will continue to play him every game at that level, surrendering the midfield due to it, getting dominated and more often than not, losing
@@CatsRUs1888 I still haven't forgotten Ange talking about '' don't get too attached to your heroes'' & so of course telling us all that like it or not, the facts are ONLY we're a selling Club with everyone up for sale & similarly with his '' we must be more agile & aggressive in the transfer market'' & which is also totally in keeping with James' assertion that we just behave NOTHING like ANY kind of ''a top ruthless Club should'' BOTH on & off the field sadly & particularly in the context of us playing our football in a League that just completely generates NO kind of serious money & so then agility, aggressiveness & ruthlessness on & off the field becomes even more important & significant as a consequence...
@@CatsRUs1888 MOR 19 goals and however many assists is an unusually good performance. McGregor is a dynamic player who we have under used these last 3 years as a 6. Also we have basically no recruitment infrastructure and apparently Dermot Desmond doesn't like directors of football so we will continue to be run like a bowling club.
@@frankbrennan1619 it's been 10 years. You could say I am pretty attached to Callum McGregor who has basically carried this team on his back for 7 years. In fact I am typing this reply right now, taking a break from experimenting with anti aging injections so that Callum McGregor can play in the Celtic midfield for eternity because that is how long it will take for this shower of amateurs in the Celtic board to sign some decent midfielders. Watch this space, another summer of Odin Holm and Paulo Bernardos coming in.
@@John-qy9nw For me, Wee Callum played his very best football under Rodgers the first time round & of course, he was then a good few years younger & not forgetting too that he had much better quality players around him & he was also not burdened with the Captaincy & I really did believe that after Rodgers had done his overnight flit to Leicester City, he would very soon thereafter sign Wee Callum, who most certainly could have done a good job at a Leicester City level in the EPL, but Rodgers' didn't & I wonder exactly why not & sadly now the years & amount of games have caught up with Wee Callum & so why was it he was given a very silly & very erroneous huge big whopping FIVE YEAR deal last year?
Because we didn't have a serious & proper ''clear out'' last summer, the ''clear out'' task this summer has ONLY become even more ginormous as a consequence & of course, it can't ALL be done in the summer, but for sure we just MUST make the most serious & proper starts to this ginormous clear out in the summer with ALL of the obvious suspects thar we can ALL name & even if we now have to pay some of them off & if we we still have the likes of Invisible Man McCarthy on the books come October, then it just hasn't been ANY kind of a serious & proper start to this ginormous ''clear out'' we ALL know just has to start happening....
Agree on Bernardo would offer them 3 million see how he develops but not 6 They might let him go cheap Think he would be good to come on and hold a game
For sure, Bernardo is worth NOWHERE near a huge big whopping SIX MILLION pounds & I would certainly hugely hesitate at even spending HALF of that on him & thankfully Benfica will just not countenance such a sum, but if by some miracle they did, I still wouldn't buy him.
Darby dust not to be too sniffy about that it’s a pressure game - do stats account for opposition Also Idah beat Kilmarnock himself - not seen that type of thing from OH - leading the line stuff Not say Idah is the new henrick but he’s better than OH by more than your margin - think Roger’s could make him a real player
@@alanmorrison5981 you often talk about game state Allan / I’ve learned a lot listening to you - Idah has come on and turned games for us hibs Motherwell Ibrox and the cup final 4 season defining games- when did OH do anything like that Goals per minutes just ain’t the same Maybe my memory is letting me down but can’t recall OH winning games for us
@@alanmorrison5981 I will say though if we get the usual biscuit tin approach then we could maybe spend 6-8 million elsewhere and maybe look for a loan deal stricker but not rely on OH, too much lashing at the ball - don’t think his finishing is great
Yes I remember well that most garrulous wee ''rant'' from Wee Enda a wee while back completely slating Idah first & then Kuhn & then backtracking a wee bit on Idah in particular, which for me was a wee bit sad, simply because Wee Enda was completely right about Kuhn & will be proved completely right about Kuhn in the near future & as for Idah, if he was available for £3 million ish as a near complete back up striker, then of course, a case could most rightly & most strongly be made for him in a SPFL context, but we all know, or should do, that Norwich ONLY want very silly money for him & the small matter too that nobody talks about, does Idah really with all his heart & soul, desperately want to play for Celtic Football Club?
Most supporters don’t think anything about the 70% , there’s still far too many believing the press headlines on players that will never come to Scotland
The £ the bank in my opinion will make it harder to bring in new players, clubs will demand more £ for their players, with the knowledge Celtic are cash rich by Scottish standards
Very soon to be 25 year old Miovski is going to cost at least £6 million & for sure Aberdeen will be looking to buck his market value & get more like £8 million for him & then I would certainly take stock on how much we are prepared to pay for him over his market value, but if Celtic were insistent on spending £6 million on either Miovski or Idah & we could get Miovski for £6 million, then there's absolutely no contest, buy Miovski every day of the week before Idah....
from your point of view celtic will always have inadequate players. welsh scales etc. bought or developed. they will remain in the team if only for budgetary reasons because you can't have carter vickers as first and second choice without it costing double
Do you guys actually watch the Celtic games, or just review the data. & come to conclusions? Because you don't appear to be able to see the talents of Bernardo & Adam or how they fit into the team.
It was ALWAYS going to be like this after the last competitive match of the season & two on loan players directly & most comprehensively, contributing to & scoring the last minute winner in a Cup Final against our bitterest rivals & so how else could it be with ALL the most obvious & expected clamour & demand to immediately sign them both on a full time basis & when the harsh reality is & quite right too, we are most definitely NOT signing them both, because as the guys said, we just should be doing much better than these two for the money...
''Only'' winning a Double when you had won a Treble the previous season is ''technically'' not ''actually achieving much this year'' when comparing season with season, but overall it was still significant success in the context of a new Manager, new style of play, the poorest recruitment of new players in one whole season in literally decades & this all obviously contributed to a true & proper race to win the League Title that saw Celtic completely throw away an eight point lead around October time last year & then the other lot completely blowing it at Ross County & Dundee when the League Title was literally in their grasp, so yes overall, Celtic winning The Double was, as I've said, significant success this season.
thing is desmond and lawwell's goals for domestic trophies and finances aren't even wrong in a european sense. unless you can show me that atalanta dortmund or olympiacos set europe as a bench mark. i dont think they did. because rangers didn't when they hit the final. frankfurt didn't. west ham didn't. all these clubs took euro success as offshoot from domestic ambitions. for rangers it was keepign players to stop the 10. for frankfurt is was 'oh shit we're going to miss out on top 5 place' etc etc
Celtic could do better - Yet no examples. Miku rated 8m failed & Ajeti 5.5m There's plenty of strikers that you could say would do well for Celtic, but saying & doing are different. You have nothing but pure speculation.
Totally agree with what you are saying about Oh vs Idah , however, I think from a Fan perspective, and the view of whether The board are willing to put their hand in their pocket and get Rodgers the players he wants, I think we have to spend the money, so we don’t spend next season every time Oh misses a shot the fans are moaning about it signing idah. It’s not logical or statistical but it’s probably the wise(ish) thing to do.
Oh dear, the issue is most certainly NOT whether '' the board are willing to put their hands in their pockets'' because they most certainly are, as with them allowing TWENTY THREE MILLION pounds to be spent on TEN duds last summer & Kuhn in January & so the issue is now ONLY that new guy Mark Cooper & Rodgers just MUST spend the money much more wisely & much more prudently & the facts ALWAYS remain even £8 million - £10 million type players have choices & options & even if we were prepared to spend such sums on two or three in this price range & we're NOT, 99% of this cohort are just completely NOT interested in playing in the totally woeful & dire SPFL or living in miserable, wet & cold Scotland!!
@@frankbrennan1619 the sentence was ‘whether the board are willing to put their hands in their pockets AND get Rodgers the player he wants’ - they spent lots last summer but rodgers doesn’t play any on them, they clearly weren’t players Rodgers had requested.
@@kennym4h48 But Rodgers told us ALL last August in a Press Conference that he ONLY ''plays a part'' in the recruitment process & that ultimately his job is ''to coach & develop the players he's PROVIDED WITH'' & as dear old Alan says, the ONLY player market Rodgers knows is the EPL & that is THE VERY LAST place Celtic should be looking at & where EPL Clubs are ONLY ever looking to dump their hugely expensive flops and/or their much out of favour & not very good 27 or 28 year olds languishing in the reserves to a very gullible & very stupid Celtic coming over the border waving their cheque books desperate to waste ALL that money just ''sitting there in the bank doing nothing''
@@herokindon Yes they did & have & rare exceptions to the rule don't make it the norm & of course in CCV's case, he was quintessentially a journeyman out on loan at so many Clubs previously & we did have him on loan for a season to see what he was all about before buying him & as for Big Joe, he was in the twilight of his career playing in Spurs reserves & literally took a 50% pay cut to move up to Glasgow, so for that alone I knew he had the right attitude straight from the get go & both he & CCV NEVER walked in the door at Celtic Park thinking they were doing us all a favour & stooping so low to play in the woeful & dire SPFL, whereas 99% of the other 27/28 year olds I mention certainly would.
Europe and the league are different- Rangers did well in Europe and were poor in the league. Play style more important indicator of success. On the ownership needing to be ruthless point - look at Steve Cohen and the Mets in the US - ruthless decision maker, second biggest budget in baseball, horrible team
I see no evidence of development with OH poor first touch positional sense ,no composure poor in air and abysmal shooting . Idah much better all round and will improve Oh will not

Good luck Enda
Good luck mate if I see you in oz I’ll shout you a beer
I'm really going to miss this 😢
Time for James and Alan to show THEIR recruitment skills in replacing Enda. Just don't call Mark Lawwell for advice! Great job Enda, you'll be missed.
It's Mark Cooper now, not Lawwell Jnr.
Please keep the channel going! Best by a long way.
All the best Enda, I’m happy to throw my name in the hat on a free transfer if you need a replacement.
You can pay me in green M&Ms 😂
Fingers crossed we get the recruitment right this summer.
@@frankbrennan1619 like I said , stay positive Frank 👀
End of an era. Farewell Enda and good luck.
Winning a double is always great. Celtic now need to push on, bring in better players and progress in Europe.
You can't. Celtic and Rangers are incapable of attracting Champions League players.
Can't you see this?
Great show as always, lads 🍀
Safe travels
Bernardo is a good reliable back up player ie cant have too many similar players in my view ☘️ 🇵🇹
A huge big whopping SIX MILLION pounds is far too expensive for '' a good reliable back up player'' End of.
i wouldn't read the 3 year cycle as a direct reference to players contracts at this minute. but more a generalisation of how we work in the past and today. for instance kyogo likely to outlast the 3 years if only because he just signed a contract even if he's not a 'rodgers player'. and players bought last summer who wont last a year lmao
You need to have longer than 3 yr contracts to ensure peak "asset value" is reached. The 3 yr idea is more about how long you'd typically recycle the squad members (and btw the manager)
We resigned half the team last year on longer contracts, including Kyogo.
Idah has more impact than OH my how did he miss thst at ibrox! OH panics! Sorry like but im amazed im hearing that you believe they are comparable..Also idah has a lot more potential. Crazy talk
Usually talk sense but Oh is never gonna be good enough
The goal Scotland had chopped off against Spain was worse !
Cheers bhoys
Wtf was the clicking sound throughout the podcast? Drove me insane
Signings????????
We require 5 maybe 6 quality first team players.
Anything less will resign us to Euro also-rans AGAIN
Thanks ghirls 'n bhoys.
Sad to hear you are leaving, but obviously you have seen the light & heading to Oz. Along with Hamish, let the exodus continue lol That’s for another year of bringing some balance & reason into our Celtic world 👍🦘🦘
A soft-boiled egg and a hard-boiled egg are still eggs. Same with fouls. That was a clear push, the referee does not even worry how hard it is.
The Huddle Breakdown with no Coll at the helm is not the Huddle Breakdown. Gimme a call...
And removing Idah 2 pens from analysis is very unfair. They were massive at the time
Grossly unfair, ridiculous bias.
I think you’ll eat your words reguarding Ida james
FYI most players sign a 3 year deal, all over Europe & it's been that way for decades. I'm very surprised you've just learned this.
Did your state not show this😂😂😂
Re midfield, sign Wanyama clone, move McGregor back to his best position, the one MOR currently occupies.
Doubt it
As Juco mentioned, we don't behave in the way a top ruthless club should, which would have already phased McGregor out the first 11 by now, he's nowhere near physical or athletic enough for Europe, yet we will continue to play him every game at that level, surrendering the midfield due to it, getting dominated and more often than not, losing
Can’t clear out average players on contracts ? Nobody will buy them?
On Big Idah, he Scored big Goals in Big Games. Get him in.
Agree on Bernardo would offer them 3 million see how he develops but not 6
They might let him go cheap
Think he would be good to come on and hold a game
For sure, Bernardo is worth NOWHERE near a huge big whopping SIX MILLION pounds & I would certainly hugely hesitate at even spending HALF of that on him & thankfully Benfica will just not countenance such a sum, but if by some miracle they did, I still wouldn't buy him.
Darby dust not to be too sniffy about that it’s a pressure game - do stats account for opposition
Also Idah beat Kilmarnock himself - not seen that type of thing from OH - leading the line stuff

Oh wait, that’s it. Just one example.
Karma, Enda, for telling everyone that Idah was never good enough to play for Celtic. Ps Was Alan singing along to Joe, Joe, Super Joe.
Haven't seen oh come into the fray and change the direction of the game like idah has.
No one of any calibre is going to move to Scotland when they've a dozen better leagues to choose from are they?
If you could choose a 2nd striker, whom would you prefer. Idah or Miovski?
Miovski
Very soon to be 25 year old Miovski is going to cost at least £6 million & for sure Aberdeen will be looking to buck his market value & get more like £8 million for him & then I would certainly take stock on how much we are prepared to pay for him over his market value, but if Celtic were insistent on spending £6 million on either Miovski or Idah & we could get Miovski for £6 million, then there's absolutely no contest, buy Miovski every day of the week before Idah....
Miovski isn't going to move to another club in Scotland, and stop asset stripping the leagues best players.
@@sandersson2813 Not at above his true market value he isn't that's for sure.....
Are you going to ever return?
from your point of view celtic will always have inadequate players. welsh scales etc. bought or developed. they will remain in the team if only for budgetary reasons because you can't have carter vickers as first and second choice without it costing double
Some remain only because of the UEFA requirements for home grown players.
Celtic didn't actually achieve much this year. They won exactly what they were expected to win, so was it really a good year?
Did you see Idah in Kilmarnock game? Oh will never do that for us. Idah has touch and is intelligent. Oh is thick.
Great point. In no way is oh on the same level as idah.
