Thanks for this amazing tour! I lived in Brixton/Herne Hill with my family in 1974-5, my parents ran a grocery shop on Railton Road, called Bob's. I was only 7/8 years old, but Brixton will always have a very special place in my heart, I even got married in Brixton in 2000 ♥
Oh wow! We love hearing personal stories. Thank you for sharing and we are so thrilled you enjoyed it :)
WONDERFUL TOUR. THANK YOU. Brixton has really changed down the years ... but then again a lot of it hasn't. Brixton reportedly underwent years of gentrification in the 90's but I'm delighted to see that it has been reclaimed. I miss those patties.... and Guinness punch!
Glad you liked this one, Declan!
Lovely video. I was born, brought up and lived in Mayall Road, Herne Hill from 1964 for almost 30 years. Wonderful fruit stalls and shops and cherished childhood memories.
Free Tour by Foot = Excellent presenters = Entertaining videos 👍

So pleased you liked this one :)
Great tour, and the next time I travel down to London, I’m definately checking out the food and coffee of Brixton. I’m glad the local people banded together to save that arcade - it’s gorgeous, and I cannot understand the mindset of those who wanted to replace it. 😡
Great tour, I just love that Brixton has its own currency, smart move, lived in Camberwell Green up the road, for a bit in the early eighties! Happy to see Brixton thriving and striving!
We are glad you enjoyed this one, Anne!
A wonderful insight into Brixton, extremely well presented by such a knowledgeable & informative guide. I know so much more about Brixton now, Thankyou 😊

How interesting and WISE: they've got a local currency/ parallel economy like every community should have in place.
That coffee is something I'd go out of my way for having, if I'm ever in London.
Really enjoyed this tour thank you very much Jessica.

Didn't know that Electric Avenue song by Eddie Grant was actually a place in Brixton. Back when the song was made you never would have known that because you didn't have social media as big as it is now. I see that it's had it's riots just like America but I'm going to tell my brother about the history of Electric Avenue and thanks for a nice tour
What a great tour!!! Very eclectic area! Well done!!!
Thank you!
Glad you liked this one, Leonora!

Hello! Great video!!
I’ve been to London a few times with family and friends, and I want to come for the Queens Platinum Jubilee, but all my family and friends are busy that weekend! Do you think it’s ok for me to travel alone? Is there a lot to do by yourself? I feel stupid asking but I’ve never been without people with me! :)
There is a ton to see and do on your own! You should definitely join some of our walking tours.
We are glad you enjoyed the video, Daniel! We also hope to show you around London when you get here. You can browse our tour selection here www.freetoursbyfoot.com/london-tours/. Bookmark us :)

Imagine an America giving tours of Brixton 🤯
She's Canadian ;)
This vídeo was record before April for sure
Indeed, it was!
This is Dillian Whyte's hometown 🏘 #brixton #boxing
You knows about Jamaican sister blessings
You forgot to mention the riots
I mention them at 11"54. :)
Your giving out totally miss information . In 1948 the empire wind rush was a troopship who sailed to Australia and on the way back was picking up some soldiers. The boat was extremely empty so someone from the company put an advertisement in a Jamaican newspaper . The advertisement read cheep fair to England £28 .It’s a total myth that they were asked to come to the Uk by anyone , there was no job offers or any promises of a job . At that time we had a labeled government they had no idea that a ship full of West Indians was going to arrive at Tilbury docks on April 15th 1948. These West Indians were economic migrants here to better themselves.
well at least they did'nt come on a banana boat !!😁
You're correct that it was not a boat sent by the government and that a cheap fare was posted - I did not intend to imply that the boat was officially sent to bring labourers home to the UK!
But you are neglecting the 1948 British Nationality Act, which granted citizenship to members of the Caribbean Commonwealth, as well as the general tenor of the news of the day, which constantly reported about the desperate labour shortages. Of course, the Act intended to invite 'members from the white dominions,' but there is no denying that Caribbean immigrants had been sold the idea they were helping 'the motherland' - this can be true in addition to their desire to better themselves.
That said, those disembarking from the ship faced brutal racism from the moment they set foot on British soil, with Clement Atlee even attempting to divert their ship. This is a very interesting article: www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/apr/22/windrush-story-not-a-rosy-one-even-before-ship-arrived
@@jessicaoneill1981
My point being they was not asked over here as you suggested . I think you maybe getting confused when in 1957/58 London transport was seeking workers from other countries such as Ireland Malta and the Bahamas . It was not only West Indians who was subjected to racism , the Irish indeed had their fair share . I myself am married to a Vietnamese lady and live in Vietnam have suffered exactly the same , it would have been extremely naïve of me if I had thought different. A RUclips channel called History debunked would give you a much better insight rather than the one I gave very broadly.
Never seen so many masks in London....wow
Nice
