I just did this on my 2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport and it was as easy as it looks. The bolt broke loose very easily and I had no issues with the crank turning. Thank you for the video, it saved me several thousand $$$.
It won't hurt the engine if you get the timing wrong. The engine will just not start until timing is right. This procedure does not affect valve timing relative to piston position.
Great video. These harmonic balancers must be notorious for coming apart. Any idea what causes this. Little story. My daughter bought this 2012 Evoque a little over a year ago and no major work has been done until we decided to change the belt and tensioner this week. To my surprise the belt has been riding the harmonic balancer with no grooved pulley. I couldn't believe it when I went to remove it. It amazes me that the belt didn't come off and the fact that someone put it together like that and it ran. Still scratching my head over this.
I have a 2013 Landrover LR2. Just got a check engine light. Ran the codes and it’s saying crankshaft & timing sensor. I def do not have the tools or experience to fix this myself. How much should a fix like this cost me? Do you know of anyone in the San Diego area you could recommend? I’m in North County San Diego near San Marcos. Thanks for the video!
This is RISKY. DO NOT DO THIS. The crank isn't keyed, and if the sprocket behind it moves you are SOL. You need to remove the starter and lock the flywheel AND install the bolt that keeps the crank locked in place before doing this. You'll throw the timing off and ruin the motor doing this if you're not lucky.
Very cool. In the future it would help if you mention year and mileage of vehicle and symptoms if it has any for other mechanics. Thanks for the great video 👍
In ford mustang 2.3 there is same things but thers hole in the pulley and you can passed ascrew 8 millimeter and install in the timing cover in spacial place and tighen the pulley with ease
the crank gear does not have a key way....when you release the crank bolt , the cams can move the can and the lower gear that does not have a key way...if it does not move lucky you...if it moves unlucky you.....
Don’t do this , we tried at our shop and cam correlation codes / timing codes came up . Had to remove two starter bolts and lock flywheel. Very simple . Don’t do without flywheel locked .
Remove the spark plug like in the video, place rod where spark plug goes and turn crank until the piston goes all the way to the top, then remove harmonic balancer and line up the dot with the crankshaft sensor.
Just like the name on the channel on point and good knowledge which is revved up 9x rpm Thank you thank you .
Thank you!

Glad it worked out for you! Money in the pocket baby! Nice!
I'm having trouble breaking the bolt.
Bro, the only video I could find that actually made sense. You did a great job. Thank you for your help.
Don’t risk it people! Is better to spend 50 dollars on the right tool kit than thousands on a new engine!!👍
What tool?
@@PACOLOCO559 this being out of time will not damage the engine, it will only set a code.

Thank you. Great video. You save my day
Thank you! Super informative.
Thank you 🙏🏻!!

Cheap materials is all. Trying to cut on costs on materials

Great Video.. Was clear and precise.. Thanks
Great video helped me out thanks

Don’t do it this way he fucked that car up you can hear it

👍😊well done!
Thank you my friend 🙏🏻!!
The bolt us one time use only from what I understand from the manual.
I was thinking of trying same thing today lol
Super to good
Ooof thats risky. The crank sprocket is floating and not keyed. If that moves... You're doneeeee! Thanks for the video tho .
Where did you buy the part from?
❤❤❤❤

Your giving wrong info to properly install that crank bolt it must be torqued to spec 79 foot pounds then 180 degrees
the crank gear does not have a key way....when you release the crank bolt , the cams can move the can and the lower gear that does not have a key way...if it does not move lucky you...if it moves unlucky you.....
Exactly so I ain’t even gonna try this shit lol I’m using the tools made for the job that I spent my money on lol
So how do I get it off if the crank bolt and the cam is moving? Man I need this answer ASAP…Please
You said to unloosen clockwise but then you showed the impact gun going counter clockwise..🤨

What to do if the piston move
I have same issue 🥲 i don’t know what to do naw !!!
My timing moved what do I do now
Remove the spark plug like in the video, place rod where spark plug goes and turn crank until the piston goes all the way to the top, then remove harmonic balancer and line up the dot with the crankshaft sensor.
THIS IS THE WRONG WAY TO DO IT. BECAUSE THE TIMING CHAIN GEAR CAN MOVE WITHOUT KNOWING. THEN TIMING WOULD BE OFF
He lied
you da man
