  • Made a trip out to the tide pools in hopes of catching some new goby or blenny species. I found plenty of fish, but most of them, especially the blennies, didn't want to play. I still managed a trio of new species for the lifelist between two gobies and a damsel. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.
Thanks to sgmultispeciesfishing ( / sgmultispeciesfishing ) for help with the IDs.

Wish your videos got more views lol
You and extreme philly are the only people who like fishing for more unique fishes instead of always trying to get a sport fish
Thanks for making videos about the many unique species around the world!

Though after the first there is a let down that it's not a new species I do think those ornate gobies are really cool catches.

Thanks. Would've been cool to get some more species, but at least the ornate gobies were pretty.

Can you not just net them in the tide pools?

I could, but then I wouldn't catch them on a hook which is my goal.

@@TheFishingNomad Being in the salt water trade for over thirty years we transshipped fish and corals from all over the Pacific. I would just want to see what is in those pools. Using traps or nets would give you a better understanding of everything in them. Lots of fish especially gobies feed by sifting the substrate making some impossible to catch with a hook. Using nets would greatly reduce the risk of harming the fish if you are returning them after identification.

@@McShaganpronouncedShaegen I understand all that. My goal is to catch as many species on hook and line as possible during my lifetime. I am currently at 386 different species. For purposes of just identification and doing a species assessment, your method is definitely better. However for what I'm trying to accomplish, it doesn't work. Appreciate the comments though.

@@TheFishingNomad I also am pursuing fish caught on hook and line. Very tough to get some folks to understand that type of commitment. Especially when it can be easier to add species by netting . I think about that every time I am not able to get a cool darter or minnow to bite and I run out of time and have to leave them. Of worse yet when they finally do bite and you lose them knowing that they are not likely to bite again🙄
