Knowing it’s fake makes this so much more endearing to me, like the whole family teamed up to get money and be on TV. Maybe the dad and the girlfriend don’t hate each other at all, and everytime the camera turned off they were snickering about their hilarious lines and all of the bullshit they have to pretend to do.

True Story, I was on an episode of this show. They gave me a CD of the episode, which I still have. Lol I'm old. Anyways, just wanted you to know that the entire show is scripted. My "boyfriend" was my cousin's bestie who I see like family. We were young, broke, and wanted to be on tv so whatevs. Things took a turn when his dad and step mom came to film in a random house MTV rented so we could hurl insults at each other while Brandon went on "dates". We were all HEAVILY manipulated and buzzed, including his parents, and everyone was ashamed when we watched it. Everyone is wearing an earpiece and being fed insults. After a while you stop trying to have a conversation and just repeat them like a parrot. I deeply regret the Asian joke they made me tell. I say made because even as a young teen I was uncomfortable with shit they wanted me to say about the girls he went on the dates with. I heard overlapping voices in my hear yelling the same thing over and over until I said the line. I found out later one of the jokes really hurt and his mom cried. I was so mad, when Brandon didn't pick me (we weren't even dating IRL) I charged at him and his dad kicked me out of "his" house. It felt like a fever dream. Today, Brandon's sister and my cousin have a 13yo daughter who STILL roast me about that time I "kissed uncle Brandon when you were a scene kid". lol SO embarrassing. That's the end of my rant. TLDR; the show is 100% fake and all parties are just there for the money, free booze, and because it was cool to be on an MTV reality show at the time. We were black alts so they tokenized us. I ran into the Asian girl (I think her name is Ashley/Ashlyn) while with Brandon at a movie theatre months later and apologized. She said she had a horrible casting experience, we trauma bonded and never saw her again. Feels weird to see a random person I subscribe to talking about this show!

i watched this show religiously as a kid which was questionable of course lol. totally forgot it existed for a while but after watching it back as an adult you can tell it is so painfully scripted.. but damn i would've never guessed it was to that much of an extent!!! so sorry you had that experience that is effing nuts!

This show made me legitimately uncomfortable. They made a big deal of the boy "needing better" but oh my god I hope the poor girl he picked dumped him right after. There's something that feels so sinister about Josh picking the "immature" girl.
When I think immature I think of two things:
The first person I think of laughs at bodily functions, enjoys making jokes at other people's expense, and just doesn't act their age in general.
A person like this is okay to date, and it doesn't really raise any red flags if you date a person like this. It's the second one that his new girlfriend fits more.
A second way of being "immature" is being naive, gullible and not knowing who you are yet. People like this are easy to manipulate and tend to attract abusers. Think Taylor Swift when she was dating John Meyer.
Josh left his old girlfriend of 6 months for the new and young girl. And I don't know, something about that just feels uncomfortable.

Anyway, I agree with you about them all posting in a week. The down side is that we have to wait a whole month for any new videos. Sometimes I prefer when they are spread out so that it doesn't feel like as long of a wait.
