i got the 9+ when it came out. love it. finally looking to upgrade. trying to upgrade without going to the 10 or 20. was curious about the 71. i can't though. only thing i'll be getting to my advantage is better batter, but the 9+, isn't far behind that. i love the print reader in back and the ppi is alot better. which is important to me, i do VR games and movies often. the 9+ does 4K with ease. no issues or frame dropage. i want to spend no more than 350 so im trying my best but looks like im getting the 10 after all. which is great, sweet phone but is rather a tease, knowing the 20's chip is such a beast and stuff. SD i mean anyways lol.. good video. answered my question of getting the 71 or not. biggest flaws for me are the low ppi count, huge screen. probably too big for most VR headsets and it will kill the VR resolution im afraid, and no upgrade of a charge speed. i like the storage and ram though. the curved edge on the 9+ is a real nice feel and look over there 71. nothing cheap feelling or looking about it and thats cool. i'd recommend the 9+ at 6.2 inch screen and oh hey... this might be pretty important. the modems in cheaper, mid range and less phones... they make a huge difference. i don't know about the 71's modem. but i bet its nothing like the 9's. in a fast real world comparison, i see literally 220 down on my 9+. the new cheapy i picked up when i got another line, doesn't even do 60 down. also, the signal some how seems to pick up after dropping threw bad spots considerably faster and if im in a metal building, the 9's modem catches the signal as soon as i step out of it. the bran new cheapy i got, is completely screwed until basically i restart the phone, and resetting the modem as i do. so with low end and mid range phones, my guess is that is one of the sacrices your making. a crappy modem and its pretty big difference, i would say. i hear the 10 modem is even better. im curious to see that when i do get the 10. so you guys know also, i see the 10 on amazon for less than 500, around 400, Renewed. so thats valuable option for yenz
Other than HDR content normal everyday use I cannot tell the difference between 1080p and 2k. Watching the video cause I just bought A71 after my S9+ died.
*in my case i'd take a new phone to get that fresh feel of when you buy something new and be the 1st one to use it* *buying a used phone is good too it's just you won't get the same unboxing experience*
I have the a71 and it's amazing honestly I dont mind about it being plastic because it has a premium feel and I dont use wireless charging so it doesnt matter to me For 400 you are getting an amazing camera, a long lasting battery life and a gorgeous screen
I'm hesitating to buy this phone or the 7t or the s10 lite, could you please share your experience with camera ? I'm not a heavy camera user but I'd like to have a good one in case i want to snap a few pics ;)
Nice, a friend of mine just bought one, refurbished, and it's been great he said, unfortunately is no longer available here on Chile so i went for the a71, it is still a good phone, regardless of the price.
@@rivvy2138 and yet the dude in the video, who has both, SAID THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. Do yall even pay attention to videos? Or just obsess over meaningless spec sheets?
Definitely not true. I use the exynos version of the s9 plus, and i can guarantee you that it is faster than the A71. The S9 plus have 6gb of ram, so ram management is really good
2 weeks into my unlocked A71 and i love it. I bought it mainly for the battery. Im averaging 12hrs of screen on time with 2.4 days worth of battery on medium power saving mode. And 3 days with 10hrs of screen on time with a mix of maximum and medium power saving mode. BEAST!! Still havent experimented fully with the Maximum power saving mode. The camera system is great but would love to have a better pro mode like my LG G4. The A71 takes crisp photos and video and the wide and macro lenses are awesome. The almost 100% screen to body ratio is amazing. The speaker is pretty good too it has some base to it (low base instruments) (not percussion base). Very happy with my purchase.
@@Prince_kapoor Oneplus Nord, Samsung A71 and Pixel 4a are the top best mid range phone. Go for one of them. I think 2020 midrange phone>previous flagship phones
Aside from the “Resolution is higher” argument being made between both screens. Their are far more differences between the two screens and you can even notice them just by watching the video. Like color accuracy, brightness, saturation, etc. among many others. The Galaxy S9 has a far better of a display than any current A Series has to offer. People often seem to use the blanket term of resolution to describe differences between two screens of any type and that’s just one piece of the puzzle. Great videos as always but just simply describing the difference(s) between two phone screens by only talking about the resolution is far too simple a comparison.
S9: Ip68 Dual speakers Wireless charging Glass and aluminum body Better display resolution and Pixels density A71: Bigger display Newer design More camera options Better battery Capable of more android updates in the features 5 to 4.... s9 is a better deal for me though it's not receiving more updates (well, maybe the One UI 2.1 but not sure about it)
I swapped my s9 for the a71 last month. The main reason? Battery. If the s9 battery could last through the day it was an otherwise great phone. I think you mention they have the same charger, the a71 actually comes with a 25w charger for the "super fast charging". The huge screen is a big jump and takes some getting used to but I specifically wanted a large screen for viewing content and gaming, also my young kids somethings watch cartoons on it. With kids using my phone didnt want another precious flagship s20 device, I am less worried about them dropping my a71. The one thing I hated about the s9 was the curved screen, just because normal screen protectors didnt work, only the £50 whitestone glass worked, which becomes expensive to replace. I just bought a 3 pack of tempered glass protectors for £5 which work great. I've always gone flagship before, never considered midrange, but wow the a range atm is on fire. Cameras was a huge thing for me and you are right whilst the s9 still takes great photos the a71s quad camera set up just offered so much more. Size wise the a51 would be more of a similar comparison between these , also the a51 is cheaper than the a71. The a71 was £420 in the samsung shop, they gave me £150 trade in for my s9 and £60 cashback so I'm very happy with that. The s9 is still a great phone, if the battery still lasted a day I may have kept it longer.
I have an s9, really tempted to go on amazon and get an a71 for 350 as I love my s9 but the battery is so bad, get about 4 hours 5 hours use before it's gone always worried it will die whenever I go out for half a day, so would you defo recommend the a71, was tempted get a used s10 plus however can imagine that being a year old and has smaller battery than a71 battery to me is more important
@@jeg1233 I was exactly the same as you, my 2 year old s9 was great but just couldn't get my through the day. the Galaxy S10 plus supports the older Quick charge 2.0 standard, which means it has an upper limit of 15W. the a71 comes with 25w super fast charging so you can charge its 4500mah battery to full in 1 hour 10 minutes, I absolutely love this feature, I'm truly amazed, if battery is your concern you will love the a71, not only is it bigger than the s10 plus but going from the charging speed of the s9 to the a71 is night and day. It goes without saying a used phones battery will already be at a disadvantage. Rather than go on Amazon have you considered trading your s9 into the Samsung store? Here in the UK the samsung shop gave me £150 for my old s9, they also gave me £60 cashback. The a71 is so cheap compared to how much my s9 was new. Yes there is no wireless charging or ip rating but this doesn't bother me. Do consider the jump in screen size though. The a71 is huuuge compared to the s9. I wanted a huge screen this time around so it's great for me, the big screen is great for watching netflix and gaming however the size takes some getting used to especially when a case is on it. If you're not after a huge phone then consider the a51, it's basically the same with a slightly smaller battery and slightly less ram, but yeah that super fast charging though 👌❤
@@mic400uk cheers matey had an 8 plus before you do get used to it liking smaller phone also but u get used to it, with shops closed am just gonna get on amazon for 350 samsung its 420, cheers

I got the s9 recently for 200 bucks as a second phone and compared to my 11 pro, the display on the s9 shocked me. It completely destroys the iphone 11 pro. The uninterupted super sharp display is a huge win.
The display of s9 is far better. Just look at 2:34 and 3:03 ,the a71 is producing muted colors and the details can be hard to recognise. Also what's with the weird lines at 2:34 on a71's screen. You get flagship chip for lower price so consider pocketing s9.
I too was making this same decision a few weeks ago but decided that the A71 was too expensive and the S9 was too small and had poor battery life so I ended up getting a Note 9 instead. Much better battery life, a bigger screen, the s pen, and and vastly better haptics while only being slightly more expensive than the S9 but still way cheaper than even the A51.
You could have gone for the s9 plus it has a bigger screen. Would be cheaper than the note. But yeah nothing beats the Note it's the world's best phone no doubt about it.
I'd go for the S9. I hate plastic phones so the material is the deal-breaker for the A71. The S9 will also consistently shoot better photos, MP aren't everything and we've seen tons of mid rangers with high MP cameras shoot terrible photos like the Realme. The S9 also has all the bells and whistles like wireless charging, duo speakers etc. Also, personally I'd much rather have the S8 and S9 design over all these notch and hole punch any day. The only plus the A71 has are only really the software updates and battery. It's a no brainer imo
@Anime Collection m talking abt quality not set up or design of cameras ... S9 single camra is far better than A71 4 camera ...take 2 vids frm 2 phones n compare u will get to knw result ...
You're 100% right. the mid-range specs of today are similar, sometimes better than the flagship two to three years before. I did a lot of research on the a series but I opted out on a $300 grade a refurbished note 9 and it's a great phone. As nice as glass feels, it's funny that flagship material shatter, but the cheap stuff does not. I prefer a plastic back because I'm not too keen on wireless charging unless you get moisture in the port... I honestly hate that.
I'd have taken the note for that much, what a steal. Midrangers always feel skimped on and aren't trustworthy as an older flagship besides battery life. I'm saying this from experience with midrangers for the last few years
I ended up getting the s 9 plus and do not regret it one bit, I love this phone it's a flagship phone. I could use Samsung pay anywhere that you can swipe a card even at old terminals.
I thought about buying the A71 but then I looked around the internet and noticed that the S10e has a similar price So I'm definitely going for the S10e instead
@@KBTjames it's the same size as my current phone and it's perfect for me, but could be but I mainly focused on the hardware between those for what you get for the money
I looked at the s10e and it's a nice phone. Similar in size to the s9. However that phone is year old so you will have less updates. It is a lot less than money than the s20.
This just goes on to buttress how nothing lasts forever, nothing is really worth the initial hype Smartphones now are also fashion accessories and the once glorious galaxy S9,is on the bottom end of the spectrum I'll take even the A51 over the S9 any day in 2020 Only the Note 9, with its huge QHD+ curved display , 4000mAh battery and that awesome S-Pen could somewhat get me to ignore the all-rounded brilliance of the galaxy A71.
Free ram is wasted ram and can slow your system down. Background processes fill the ram so that the experience is smoother. The more ram being used the better the optimization so don't worry about 3
I have had an S9 for 2 years now. I am going with the A71 from T-Mobile. It's free for switching from Verizon and think Samsung will soon not support updates on the S9.
S9 had fast battery drain issues and still does. The pixel 4 of 2018. Also the s9 in Europe comes with inferior exynos which probably explains the battery drain, where the a71 comes with the SD 730 global.
should i buy the s9 or the s10e? the s9 has a better screen ( yes there are bezels but im perfectly fine with that) and a lower price the s10e has an ultrawide camera and probably more software updates down the line even tho one ui 2 which is on both devices is perfectly fine
I bought me a great condition almost like new S9. For only 180 plus tax. At this local cell phone shop in the city. That’s less than 200 total. Very happy.
I've been tempting to upgrade my 256 gbs S9, I've used up half it's storage memory, instead i just bought a 256gb micro sd card and it's all good again lol half a terrabyte of storage, can easily last me another 2 yrs.
I just think your a71 display was not set in Vivid color mode. So that it colors when compare to s9 is desaturated. Maybe you should set the settings first before you make this vlog. Its a bit unfair for a71 display though.
@@chandanachannel6526 nonwhatbi am.saying is the color. The color in the video of A71 screen is not set in Vivid mode. Im using it right now and my phone looks like thatbwhen not set in Vivid mode
Phones are gonna be like cars. Some want new and can afford the premium stuff while others want new but less specs to do what they need it to. However I see the market of older gen phones sticking around on shelves longer and the manufacturers giving longer support spans because maybe you want a new but old phone. Something a gen or two (or even 3) behind. Tmobile still has the iphone 7 on shelves and has apple support for some time to go now. Everyone else should follow that idea
Shorter update periods on older devices, for example a 2 year old s9, possibly no more update. Newer phones likes the a71 will receive a minimum of 2 years, possibly even longer.
also to take in consideration is battery life. From personal experience, my S9's(before i upgraded to s10) battery wasn't stellar even when it was new. it was okay but would have trouble lasting me the day. i'd imagine a used s9 would have worse battery health. so imo the A71 would be the better buy
I don't think that it's that simple. The s9 has a beautiful display, even with the curved screen. The A71 has no IP rating but, will get more updates and faster charging.
@@ItzSebas1550 funny, I had never used the headphones. I found them when preparing to go on a trip. I put them in and I was amazed at how good they sound. Flagship specs, bro. Flossy Carter always says that and he's right. I usually just move to the next odd numbered flagship. Which, for me is the the s20, now even numbered. People keep complaining about the battery but, the specs are still better than my s9.
I highly recommend the 8GB A71. That being said the M51 is being released with a 7000Mah battery and a 730G Snapdragon with nearly identical features to the A71.
I still have my S9+ from 2018 and it's almost at the end of it's contract. The techie in me really wants move on to a newer device but in all honesty the S9+ is still such a great piece of kit I keep asking myself do I really need a new phone yet. :-)
@@MrBooshScadoosh I am not techy. If you have updated to Android10, I think there are only security updates from this point on. Anyone, please jump in if I'm wrong. Samsung updates for 2 years, Google 3 years, Apple longer. But, you have to want to exist in the apple ecosystem.
I have s9, and will upgrade soon. It's still a great phone. I honestly haven't notice a big difference with Android10, would I ? I just did the update yesterday. I have been looking for another compact phone. So, I don't think A71 is for me. Plus this s9 went for a swim so, the next phone needs to be warerproof. I'm glad I saw it and the differences. I may upgrade to the s20 but, the battery is not great supposedly. If you compare specs it seems better than mine. I can buy the s20 , wait for the s21 or look at the google pixel 5 eventually. I would like have more updates so that in 2 years, I won't be here again. The more phones I look at the worse it gets. The search continues.
Just traded my s9+ for $500 off my note 20 ultra. Seriously I would 10/10 recommend the s9+ (has two cameras and is bigger) if you want a good phone at decent price. That phone held up beautifully, worked perfectly and was in excellent condition to trade in over 2 years after purchase
A71 has no band 71 support for T-Mobile (ironically!), no Dex support, no iris scanner, no LDAC, no AptX or AptX HD, no AAC. Lack of a hole punch, water resistance, dual speakers, OIS, and capacitive fps seal the deal for the S9, and at a lower price. A71 is nice, though.
Did you set the a71 on vivid mode while comparing the display.? Also was the s9 on vivid mode? I agree the s9 has a better display much they are very similar in terms of contrast. The s9's screen is just more sharper and brighter.
Get the S9! Samsung A series will lag for a year or two compare to Samsung S series. The Samsung S9 will less likely to lag compare to the A71 for long term usage. Samsung S9 snapdragon variant is the best choice.
Samsung has stepped up their midrange phones game, but a flagship is a flagship even if 2 years old. The thing is a71 will get 3 Android updates due to the new Samsung software update policy while the s9 is getting only software updates from here on
I recently bought a Galaxy A51 5G. I got a great trade-in deal and a $50 case for $5. No regrets. I bought and sold a Galaxy S20 this year. Could not justify that price for my needs. Never cared for the S9. It always looked like something they threw together at the last minute as an S8 followup.
If you done a geekbench or benchmark. The s9 is wayy higher that a71. The performance on the s9 is miles better than a71 when it comes to heavy long duty gaming. Good content though

I think it would be really cool if Samsung were to do something similar to what Apple did with the iPhone SE and stick the latest processor and other specs from the Samsung Galaxy S20 series into a Samsung Galaxy S7 body.
My concern will be more in terms of Software support. sadly android only gives 2 - 3 years support. this will make the S9 open to unpatch vulnerabilities. unlike apple where the iphone 6 is way older and still gets support. thanks!!
A 71 still because of new release update design large screen and battery life + everything else... It's SO good flagship lil outdated compare the price to pay for Amazon renewed project that might be refurbish or most likely have some issues also keep in mind the phone is 2 years old so battery life and components has that age with no warranty.....(A71 It's brand new 1 UI full warranty updates 👍)
I replaced my aging S9 with an A71. No regrets. The extra oomph that the S9 has but where the A71 improves cannot be overlooked especially considering how abysmal the battery is. If you're not gaming, A71 all day. It will age better.
I think that a longer lasting phone we also got more updates is much better than an older phone which won't last as long and won't get as many updates.
I own an s9+ for almist 2years now. I also own a iPhone 11pro. The screen on the s9+ is superieur to that of the 11pro that i use Ad daily driver. But for watching content ,browsing the web, Social media i use the s9+. The side is Just perfect for me. The naked phone feels zo premium ,and the camera is still very good. I dont mind the bessels. All these new phones are so big nowadays to fit in your pocket. So for me the s9+ is still a better deal over the a71
I wish I knew about amazon renew before I reupped my contract to get a replacement phone (samsung A71) after I cracked the screen on my current device (samsung galaxy S9 Plus). I could've replaced it with the same phone for a fraction of what I paid over the course of 2 years!
I currently owned a s9 that I bought new. What I dont like is that battery is bad, not consistent and not lasting my work shift. Also I hate the curved screen, it just crack on the spot as my wifes s8. That it feel good on the hand? Yes, but without a case, but I always use a case since I dont pay for insurance and i like a good grip, so I rather pay less than get a premium feel. Also having 4 gb for me it slow to open apps, especially the camera one. For the screen resolution I have it set at 1080p since I can't tell the difference at 2k and I doubt most can and even if they did, once you start watching a video you'll forget about it, so as long is a OLED at 1080p I'm ok. I rather get the A71, since that s9 battery even when it was new its battery was bad, so it degraded by no by at least 20%. If the a71 had stereo speakers I'll ditch my current phone and get it.
I'm late to this, but a battery that doesn't last a full day, is easily solved by using a battery pack, or if you're indoors charging the phone. But, you can't put another speaker onto the A71 or better picture quality. So, I would buy the S9. And even if there are no more software updates 2-3 years from now, you could buy a used S21 or whatever one or two year old model, for about $300. So, looking into the future, buying two used flagship phones for about $600 is a much better value!
Great and honest review. I sold my S10 plus while I could still get a good price for it and bought a used 256GB S9 Plus for $270. And lemme tell you it is still a superb phone minus the ugly notch hole punch notch. Samsung should've gone with the pop up camera like the One plus instead of a intrusive hole cut out. Honestly if the One Plus 7 Pro had a headphone Jack and expandable storage I would've closed my eyes and gone with it. Just saying.
Like everyone said here... A71 has 25W super fast charging comparable to the ones in S20+ and S20 Ultra. Something that S9 didn't have but instead an aged 15W charging capacity that ended with the S10+.
Actually the A71 has a 25w fast charging vs 15w on the S9. That makes the phone charge a lot faster.

Still havent experimented fully with the Maximum power saving mode. The camera system is great but would love to have a better pro mode like my LG G4.

@@xtrociss515 definitely s9

I have the full spec A51 and I'm so happy,my apple fan friends are so jealous I'm not kidding nor exaggerating, I wish Samsung won't stop the updates

I'm saying this from experience with midrangers for the last few years
Don't mind about the plastic build, I put a cover on it anyway

Android phones and IOS phones are two different types of phones
Android phones (samsung, oneplus, huawei, ect) is highly customisable, from downloading launchers to Installing a different os skin, it's mainly popular for their cheap, experimental, and innovating phones, if you dare to say "android is bad" you will get blasted by hate comments, android companies mainly innovates on hardware, android's phones make you choose what's best for you.
iOS phones (apple iPhones) is highly optimised the point that older iPhones can still beat some of the modern android competition, iPhones are very secured but that does mean that there is some barrier for freedom, iPhones has 5 year + support which is amazing for apple people and might be confusing for android users, IOS system is the smoothest, the most friendly user interface and minimalist os you'll ever find, Apple mainly innovates on software and speed, Apple knows what's best for you
Here is some analogy:
Apple is like a console, reliable, fast, easy to use
Android is like a PC, many parts to choose, customisable, advanced,
Fun fact about apple: they start some of the trends on modern smartphones like: Headphone jack, Notch, and the upcoming disappearance of the charging brick

I think it would be really cool if Samsung were to do something similar to what Apple did with the iPhone SE and stick the latest processor and other specs from the Samsung Galaxy S20 series into a Samsung Galaxy S7 body.
I Really Appreciate This Video Mate Thanks!
You couldve atleast did the s9 PLUS vs the A71. Idk makes more sense to me.
I replaced my aging S9 with an A71. No regrets. The extra oomph that the S9 has but where the A71 improves cannot be overlooked especially considering how abysmal the battery is. If you're not gaming, A71 all day. It will age better.

All these new phones are so big nowadays to fit in your pocket. So for me the s9+ is still a better deal over the a71
Hey man, keep up the good work. Please do a comparison between the A71 and the note 9
I have an S9 and wanna upgrade soon. Is this worth getting Instead of buying the already year old S10+?
no
I'd go for S9
Just got the A71 and will return it for the S9 as its way too big for my hands and is hard to carry in pockets for fear of it falling out
I wish I knew about amazon renew before I reupped my contract to get a replacement phone (samsung A71) after I cracked the screen on my current device (samsung galaxy S9 Plus).
Review realme 6 or no?
I got my Huawei p30 for 260€ brand new on black friday last year that a pretty god deal.
