Grant writing is a science in and of itself and without grants and published works, research funding just doesn't happen. "Academia" is one of my pet peeve issues... and everyone does the Ostrich and drills their head in the sand whenever anyone actually tries to discuss this issue in a real, non-bias driven, normal form. Its almost an existential issue that could lead to the crash of the entire basal scientific research community in anything other than huge, large, multi-national corporations that pursue actual products for money. This needs to change!
