Jetty Fishing For A Limit Of Lingcod + Black Rockfish and BIG Kelp Greenling!

  • Jetty fishing for lingcod and other rockfish along the oregon coast. This is going to be my first rock fishing trip of the season, fishing from a jetty, in search of rockfish, specifically some lingcod, but any fish on the line will make for a good day at this point. Rock fishing from a jetty is something i always enjoy and look forward to as the winter season begins to wind down along the Oregon coast.
For my first trip i decided that i would head down to Newport Oregon to fish the jetty along Yaquina bay. Oregon coast fishing starts to really ramp up this time of the year as the lingcod start to come in closer to shore prior to the spawning season.
There are a lot of different jetting fishing setups or jetty fishing rigs that will produce fish but today i am fishing with one of my favorite rock fishing setups which i use a lot whether i'm jetty fishing or rock fishing along the rocky shoreline, and that is the weedless rig also known as the Texas rig. (* I misspoke in the video and called it the carolina rig, which i had been using the last couple of days while surf fishing.
This rock fishing setup has produced a LOT of fish for me in the past and is basically my "go-to" fishing rig when i want to be able to keep my gear along the bottom with the least amount of snags and lost gear.

I felt the need to point out, before I get a bunch of comments about it, that i misspoke when covering the rig I was using. I said it was a Carolina rig instead of the Texas rig. By the time I noticed what I did I had already uploaded the video and was only minutes away from posting the video… anyhow,…. My bad. Thanks for watching. You guys are awesome and I greatly appreciate the support

I caught a bunch of kelp greenlings in Fort Bragg Ca.- I filleted them on the table in the yard, went inside for a bit, and when I came out to bag them, there were threadlike translucent Worms wriggling out of the flesh! I never ate those kind of fish again.

Back in the day ADDICTED fishing was angling addicts Northwest correct? Was your channel around before that or did they come out after?

One of the best catch ever happened there for me. Hooked a rock fish and while reeling in it got snagged. Then it slowly started coming to the surface and a giant Ling swallowed the sea bass and after a bit of a fight we landed it and it still had the full bass in its mouth. Ate both that night while camping out there.

Caught my first ling of the season that way just a couple weeks ago in the same spot. Hooked a little lingcod and a 37” female ate it on the way in. I jumped in over my boots to grab it before she let go

We call those hitchhikers. If I'm out in the boat and i hook a bass closer to the bottom, I'll let it fight a little and then reel it in slowly. You'll sometimes entice big lings that way. Just need to net them before they break the surface of the water

Fantastic video Nick! I especially loved the fish swinging all over your pack on the way back🙂 That is one nasty walk, but the rewards were evident. I'll have to get some of those swimbaits myself, but don't think I could walk that far any more--a few too many hard landings thanks to the ol` T-10!

That place takes it out of me everytime. If i'm out for a few days, this is usually my last stop. I don't think i could start out doing a jetty trip like that, it'd be all i did lol. I've made that walk back so many times without fish, i can't believe i even go back, but it's the rare days like these that have me putting up with it. I'm fishing with those jigs on my next trip. I can't wait to use them! I like how small the heads are for how heavy they are. I have a spot i want to target some ling with them... hopefully it works out! Tight lines

    • @AnglingAddictsPNW
      @AnglingAddictsPNW  2 года назад

To be honest, I don't think the North side fishes any better than the South, they both have their days of producing fish, or not. The death march back from the north side is one thing but doing it after getting skunked definitely has me preferring the south. Which side i fish usually just depends on the wind, it kills the audio lol. Let me know how it goes if you make it out there.... and be careful, i'm a friggin mountain goat and that place has tripped me up.

  • @rkw221

I genuinely enjoy your videos. They're concise, straightforward, well explained.... annnnd..... you react like a grown-up unlike 90% (hyperbole but seems to apply) of other YT'ers who jump & shout constantly... they're having fun but if they acted that way out fishing with me I'd have to do some chumming.
Point of my comment is actually a suggestion for your gear. You carry a pack so ice chests are out I'm sure.... buuuut... how about a collapsible ice chest? watching you struggle with managing your catch. a chest in the 30-60 gal range would work to keep your catch out if the sun. Add a collapsible 5-gal or what ever size bucket would let you drag up sea water for the chest. plus you could keep water in the bucket to bleed your catch if you want.
Amazon prices have the ice chests running from about $22-$45 and buckets are about $12.
    Anyway just a thought.

I don’t think I mentioned what kind they were. That is the Strike King Rage Swimmer. I don’t recall whether it was the 4.75” or the 5.75” though. I’ve had good luck with them but I’m pretty sure those fish will bite anything if you manage to get it around them. Those rage swimmers are perfect for the setup I was using though.
