It was late at night, that I and my Inquisitor acquaintance were running battle simulations in the noospehere.
"The fastest way to get your troops into an enemy ship is getting your ship inside the enemy ship," I passionately insisted, as my cogitators processed the success rates of the approach.
"Then show me how good your boarding tactics are," she replied and ran her fingers over the one-eyed aquila.
"FOR THE EMPEROR!!!!!" I yelled as I rammed my prow deep into her battleship.
The hull was quickly penetrated, and after a succession of controlled bursts from the auxiliary thrusters, my battleship was lodged deep - there was no escape. Soon my troops were filling the insides of her vessel... As the last of atmosphere leaked out into the void, the Inquisitor shivered and averted her gaze from the mess. Our eyes locked and all I could see in hers was amazement at such a display of tactical ingenuity.

    *My Lord Inquisitor.*
The forces of the Imperial Guard which I had received from Sector Command, had successfully boarded the so-called "Galactic Republic" asteroid base in uncharted space. The initial defenses were overwhelmed with swiftness only ever demonstrated by the Lord Astartes, and I give the Guardsmen my earnest gratitude.
Unfortunately, they had experienced losses which were unnecessary, and amounted to naught but waste of the Emperor's patience. I recommend a Regimental Commissar accompany them on their next mission, should there be one, and a more experienced officer be called from the Schola Progenium.
The defenses in the second hangar area of the base were... difficult, to crack. The Imperial Guard hadn't the firepower to create a successful breakthrough, and neither the time to achieve optimal cover. Fortunately, I had called upon a squad of Kasrkin to aid in the breaching of the static defenses, with astonishing success.
The next part of the offensive was of little importance, with the Guard having secured the outer perimeter of the holding area. Heavy Bolters were installed to help with softening the defenses of the inner perimeter, which were of significant aid.
Damnable enemies of the Imperium had managed to stall the offensive, rendering any attempt to man the Heavy Bolters once more moot. Not even concentrated Plasma Fire could breach the defenses, for the Kasrkin would fall from concentrated fire. I had the fortune of co-operating with the Lord Astartes of the Imperial Fists Chapter, which swiftly and mercilessly tore through the soldiers of the Republic.
With the base secure, I had unfortunately lost all contact with the men inside, the Lord Astartes included. I pray to the Emperor that the mission succeeds. When the Guardsmen return, I shall personally congratulate them, and send them off on the next assignment.
    If they return.

Aboard the Emperor-Class Battleship, "Litany of Retribution", the General was going over the reports of the boarding action, numbers and casualties scrolling before his eyes, one a light blue, the other red glass. All in all, it was going better than anticipated. The relatively low-cost Guardsmen had been sacrificed to test the enemy's weapons, and clear the way so that the Kasrkin could do their bloody work. But even the Guardsmen had performed better against this enemy than anticipated. They were an interesting opponent, to be sure, disciplined and possessing unique variants of laser weaponry and unusual armor types, but all in all, they were little more challenging than Chaos renegades. In some ways, this felt more like he was putting down rebels than engaging in a Crusade.
Idly, he noted one area in which guardsmen were dying in greater proportions than the rest of the ship, and sent a humble request to the Imperial Fists to aid his forces in that area. He did not believe they were actually needed, but the enemy defenses appeared to be more concentrated there than any remaining area, and anywhere else would be even more of a waste of the Fist's talents. He had no doubt that they would handle the situation easily, and turned his eyes to the overall expenditures for the operation. Well within acceptable parameters. Below initial estimates even, the spike of deaths at the area the... 'Clones' they were called, yes, the spike of deaths at what appeared to be their most important holdout was what more closely approached one of their regular boarding operations. All in all, this one was going extremely well. If the Crusade maintained this loss rate, he might not even need to replace regiments by the time it was done.
"My lord." Came a nearby voice, and he spared a glance to one of the tactical officers, the one keeping an eye on Section 23-B he believed.
"Forces in 23-B have reported an additional unknown barrier in what appears to be a storage area. They believe they hear the sounds of biological entities beyond it, differing from the clone enemies. Requesting instructions." Ah, he was right. And he didn't even need to double-check which forces were assigned to that section, it had already earned his personal attention with it's death rate.
"Breach and reveal." He spoke simply, looking back to his own datapad and smiling lightly as he noted that yes, the Imperial Fists were still in position with his forces.
"Leave the enemy with no secrets to keep." He instructed plainly, to which the tactical officer bowed his head.
"Yes my lord." He spoke, before turning back to the console and repeating the general's instructions. Said general idly checked on the progress of the rest of the boarding actions. Almost all sections had been cleared. Soon the ship would be theirs and the tech priests could begin their investigations. Apparently, there was something about the ship engines of these opponents that the Mechanicus wanted to study further in dep-
A red ping on his dataslate instantly drew his eye and caused it to furrow deeply. One of the Imperial Fists was down. Then another. Then another.
He stood up even as the tactical officer's eyes widened and he let out a stuttering-
    "M-my Lord!"
"I see it." He replied curtly, not even glancing at the datapad to know that the rest of the forces in that area were being slaughtered. Something that could take down marines that quickly would have no trouble with the remaining forces.
"Has anyone lived long enough to make a coherent report?" He asked, leaning over the tactical officer and looking down to their console, eyes examining the various data feeds. No helmet cameras unfortunately.
"N-no my Lord. Just screaming sir." He spoke, straightening up, doing his best to push down the shock that the Marines had been killed, and so quickly. The General nodded and then straightened up, turning with a stone face and fighting back an internal sigh. Well, there went the 'acceptable casualties' part of the action. A pity.
"Relay what you have to the Imperial Fists Captain, then switch observation to Reserve Forces, Battalions 29, 34, 57, 99, and 165 of the 220nd Cadian Shock Troopers. Relay orders to move to Section 22-A and set up fortifications. Tell them to expect a heavy assault from an as-of-yet unidentified opponent." He instructed, and the officer nodded curtly.
"At once my lord!" He instructed, before switching Vox frequencies from what few of the dying guardsmen remained to call up the reserve units, while the General began passing orders to the rest of the forces on the ship to converge around 22-A, and a few other nearby choke points, with similar instructions. Hopefully the Fists Captain could make sense of the information given, or his own soldier's reports, and be able to handle this quickly. If not... well, he'd ask the ship Captain to keep the cyclonic torpedoes loaded.

But then again, it's 40k, and ammunition used is usualy more powerful than anything we have today. Plus there are reinforced versions of it, like Carapace. Plasteel armour does nothing against ballistic, however it is PLENTY effective to resist energy based weaponry.
It dissipates energy, it does not just block it altogether.
It is made to make sure the wearer goes wounded instead of just straight up dying.
Besides that why would they make armours that work against ballistic projectiles in the Star wars universe, when basically no one uses any.

Emergency report of Theta squad of the Republic commandos / Imminent loss of the Bright Dawn + Potential new biological weapon to use against the Imperium
Admiral Yularen, as per orders, Theta squad has evacuated the Imperial planet named Baal after the Cult of Chaos’ invasion. Our reconnaissance was fruitful; as we found the coordinates of something the Imperium calls a Great Devourer nesting area, not too far from the Blood Angels’ homeworld.
We rejoined our Venator-class cruiser, the Bright Dawn, and headed to these coordinates. The planet was barren and without atmosphere, as it seems the Blood Angels used planet-killing weaponry, their so-called Cyclonic Torpedoes. Theta Squad did investigate, and we found deep underground eggs yet to hatch, in some sort of primordial soup.
Thinking it could be a subspecies of the Killik insectoid race, or at least an ally against the Imperium, we evacuated the eggs and placed them aboard the Bright Dawn. However, few days later, as we were returning to safer space, we lost contact with the few rooms around the egg storing area. The reconnaissance squads sent never returned. On my authority, I barricaded every access to the egg storage room, including any ventilation system.
Unfortunately, our vessel was intercepted by a small imperial flotilla. We could outrun their larger vessels, but they sent a swarm of boarding craft. Our outer defenses are being breached as I write this message. They’ll soon be upon us. I regret to inform that Theta Squad will not be able to complete its primary mission.
We will try to fight back the Imperial Guard, and their allies of the “Imperial Fists” warrior-cult. Let the Chancellor know that Theta and the crew of the Bright Dawn fought to the last clone. My last report is this: This Great Devourer seems to be the only thing to actually scare the Imperium’s forces. Maybe they could be weaponized.
I recommend increasing the search for more eggs. Attached to this message are locations to planets that the Blood Angels consider “lost” to the Devourer. Recommend investigating there first.
    The Republic endures.

@Lord Admiral Spire Yeah, you are right. Where clones have a buff in the armor, guardsmen have in DAKKA.
Lasgun is a *laser* weapon, technically a hitscan weapon with the projectile travelling with the speed of light. If there was a jedi, it'd be impossible for him to deflect even a few of them with a lightsaber. No reaction is enough to deflect light.
Blasters' projectiles are very slow in comparison.
If we consider, that generic lasgun = generic blaster in power, Imperial Guard is absolutely better.
Moreover, clones don't have really much AoE weapons, other than nades or some explosive blasters, at least they are not shown here. A few plasmacannons used as mortars could've been enough to obliterate defences. Which was shown in this video with plasmagun kasrkin storm troopers.
Basically, a space marine squad would've been enough to get through these defences. Even flak armour can't really protect from large caliber bolts, whereas only very lucky lasgun shots can do some damage against power armor. @@ofal5124 true that's why they stand a chance against the guardsman however its mute due to the sheer billions of soldiers the guardsman have as the have literal hundreds if not millions of planets to pull soldiers from to just overwhelm the enemy but that's not here or there. The guardsman have standard issue crack grenades that are from what I've seen 1.5 times minimum. More powerful than the thermal detonator. And guardsman dont have alot of electrical equipment to be short circuited by emp grenades as the lazrifel might be the only thing and even so it's common to just pick up either a fallen guardsmans weapon if yours stops working. In addition the trooper armour would not be able to take high grade plasma blasts as seen previously as they are far more powerful and ment to destroy light armour vehicles and or high grade enemies there are usually a few men with plasma cannons in a standard guardsman regiment they are given higher grade armour and more grenades as well. The main thing is you cant compare 40k to other scifi galaxies due to how ridiculous it is and that's why 40k fans love 40k because it is ridiculously over powered. It stands in a league of it's own as it has so mutch over the top lore that its beyond crazy and seeing as the rebooted the starwars genre they have little to no chance in hell of winning against the 40k universe and even if you include the now retconned material that just takes their odds from none to a a chance similar to trying to find a needle with a particular persons blood on it in a pile of millions of needles and that's if I'm being generous. I loved starwars but they cant beat 40k jedi loose to the librarians and or space marines shooting 77mm shell at them that can't be deflected troopers lose to guardsman if not by shear overwhelming amount of troops and weapons such as tanks and battlements, and with well they lose against the chaos space marines witch are believe it or not worse and more dangerous than the standard variant.

Unlikely. If we look at this from a simple numbers perspective, estimates put the Grand Army of the Republic at around 3 million(3,000,000) at its peak. On the flip side, the Astra Militarum(the first guys we saw, and the most basic soldier in the Imperium), numbers around 500 trillion(500,000,000,000,000). That means there is roughly 167 million(166,666,666) Guardsmen for every Clone Trooper. And that isn't even taking into account the Militarum Tempestus(the second set of guys with the different helmets and plasma cannons) or the Space Marines. Suffice it to say, there is no world in which the Republic could fight off the Astra Militarum, let alone the full might of the Imperium.

I must say this would highly unlikely happen if it ever did happen. Clone troopers are genetically modified clones that from birth are made and trained to fight a war. They are tougher, stronger, more agile, they are well equipped and trained. Clones that were apart of the republic era of production had tough and heavy armor even within the ranks of common foot soldier that were supposed to stop high velocity projectiles, unlike the bolter rounds. Clones also had training that focused on tactical positioning and fighting in extreme conditions, they are no space marines but they should be able to hold a choke point such as the tunnel in the first scene. Just like the forces of the Astra Militarum, the clone army is a swarming force with many vehicles and large variety of weapons, however they run countless simulations before they are deployed and their commanding officers know that there is a time to fight and a time for a tactical retreat, they don't execute their own soldiers unless proven to be traitors and even then they are imprisoned.
My point is, clone troopers should be able to tackle the forces of the imperium, as long as it's not space marines and psychers.
This was an interesting scenario but we can't always say 40k will win hands down. Imperial soldiers are more than enough times just new recruits due to the fact that they are constantly dieing, there are a few veterans but even their numbers slowly fall, meanwhile clones have thousands of hours of training, simulations and even combat deployment. Clones were meant to fight and survive, their production was expensive and so is their gear.
