Welcome to this week's episode of What's This Button Do hosted by Dustin Babitzke! This week Dustin asks if we really needed another Klon pedal in an already saturated market and tries to understand why Origin Effects chose to make the Halcyon a Klon Klone.
Does it sound as good as some of the best Klon's out there? Why does it have more than 3 knobs? Is this an elaborate prank? Find out on tonights episode!

Thanks for the review. One suggestion though, one of the benefits of the adaptive circuit seem to be what it does when you ride the volume. Cleans up way better due to the eq adjustments in eq as you change volume. Wish. you had demonstrated that, because for me, that a is one of the most attractive parts of this pedal vs the others. Nice comparison though!

Great suggestion. I actually shot a little demo of it but the difference between the KTR and Halcyon didn’t come through very well on RUclips so I wound up not using it. But in the room it was really amazing. That adaptive circuitry works so well. I should have tried it with a strat. I’ve been playing it lately with a strat bridge pickup and the adaptive circuitry really shines there at lower volumes.

You are so right. That Adaptive mode is fantastic. I was worried it would be a gimmick but it’s something special.

Should i get this or the green one? I’m having a tough time deciding which one to buy to be my only od pedal… maybe the blues driver will do the work too and it’s half the price

@@Lennie_peled great question. Let me pick your brain before I reply. What kind of music do you primarily play (or want to learn if you are newer to guitar) and what kind of amp do you play through?

I’d be glad to help with that one. Let me ask you a quick question. What type of music do you like to play and what type of amp do you play through. That would give me a good idea of what to recommend

No comments yet? Wow. I just got a brand new KTR (was on waiting list for years and one popped up). This Halcyon has caught my interest - great review thank you.

Thanks my friend. Congrats on your KTR. This was super fun to shoot. Now that I’ve played it more I am really in love with the lower gain modes on this. It’s sooo much fun.

Read some of the original reviews of the Klon when it first came out. It's hilarious, because it was basically, "meh, sounds ok... Interesting circuit." No magic, no mind blowing tones.

Hahaha so true. Back then most people didn’t really give it the time of day. It wasn’t til he stopped making them for a bit that they went crazy when people started realizing how many touring artists were using them on their boards.
