I picked up an HRM the other day. I'm a big J Rockett fan. They really make some amazing stuff. The Dude V2 is one of my favorite pedals, and I'm also loving this new one.
I believe it's also the basis for the jhs kilt! The og expandora was that same circular shape and had a bunch of dip switches on the front. Super interesting circuit
Yes please do a Klon shootout in the way you did Rabea's favorite Fuzz and Reverb pedal blind shootout. Those were awesome. This new pedal demo is awesome too!!!
It would be super cool! I was racking my brain trying to remember what each switch did cause the original had three. The omitted switch was simply to change from guitar input to bass input. Which is kinda extraneous anyway. I thought about picking up a kilt for a while before settling on the old blood noise endeavors alpha haunt v2. Now THAT pedal is seriously one of my absolute favorites
The pedal that occupies the Klon shaped-hole in my heart right now is the Lichtlearm Aquaria. The standard 3-knob layout, with an additional foot-switchable 4-band EQ. So you have Gain, Volume and Tone. And then Treble, Bass, Hi-mids, and Lo-mids. On top of that, it has three clipping modes, standard Klon Germanium, Schottky or Silicon diodes. I believe this is the most flexible Klone around, more so than the Wampler Tumnus Deluxe.
Hi guys, liked the one on fuzzes and this one on Expandora reminded me of the Doctor Who in the Globe Theatre when the witches had a bunch of numbers recited to gain entry to the world. Keep playing.
This was powerful! Your parents didn't necessarily lie. They spoke from a position in which they hadn't taken the time to investigate whether what they were being taught was true or not. Some might call that ignorance; which, by the way, is far more easily forgiven than outright lying. But it is easy to adapt an attitude of conviction in ignorance when the arguments presented by your parents are emotional and have at least some root in facts. They were just missing the rest of the picture.
The pedal is also a favourite of Josh Scott and was pretty popular through the late 60s and early 70s, where it wasn't always maxxed out ;) It is reckoned to be the pedal used on the original Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum Apparently used by Billy Gibbons in the early ZZ Top days I only really knew it as the pedal of choice for Randy California (played with Hendrix before he upped sticks and moved to the UK) and was the Guitarist (and main songwriter) with Spirit. Though sadly Spirit are now mostly known for a Led Zep plagiarism case and the their song (Fresh Garbage) being used as the intro for Pinks song Feel Good Time
Should have looked at the Halcyon manual. The "adaptive" modes dynamically roll off the mid-range Klon hump the more gently you play and by working the guitar volume control. When used properly, the Halcyon will win the race. It's a dynamically controlled Klon.
I think Joe is right! There are 100s of drives pedals all playing in much the same ball park. Small differences, sometimes imperceptible on RUclips. Often the choice just comes down to price & look!
The thing with the expandora I think is because of the headroom in the pedal: with tele single coils there is so much headroom that settings do not make so much difference, whilst with Humbuckers you just fill all the headroom of the pedal...
The fuzz pedal sounded super super different mic'd compared to when we got snippets of the room sound. More room mic previews would be awesome to get that in-the-room feel :D
Should i get this or the green one? I’m having a rough time deciding which one to buy to be my only od pedal… maybe the blues driver will do the work too and it’s half the price
The best and cheapest Klon type pedal without snakeoil and fairydust, is the BYOC Silver Pony. The circuit is spot on the original. You have to build (solder) the bugger yourself, but it is so worth it.
Those BYOC pedals are pretty good. I have a Green Pony that works very well (Maxon drive copy), but it is a bit noisy. I may get the Silver Pony, too. I wish that he would ship kits with SMD circuit boards so that the housing is not so massive. They would be less noisy, too.
I feel like i saw a JHS video where josh said the Kilt is kinda based on a modded expandora? Origin was already getting my money with the Halcyon gold, but i might have to look into the expandora as well 🤔
Pete, you’re way too confident that you’re not going to drop your guitar when you bent over to check the spelling on that one pedal than I would have been lmao
Noooooo! I'd decided on a Tumnus Deluxe and then you guy do this. It's cruel! The Halcyon Gold is pretty amazing - but is there something even better just around the corner?
Gotta love youtube compression. Could not hear ANY difference on the Halcyon Gold as the Captain flipped the adaptive switch back and forth on the LP. But it did sound excellent.
Babe wake up, a new Tales from the Pedal Cabinet just dropped! And what a selection of pedals it is! I find it's always worth playing around with your guitars volume knob with Mythos pedals Love the original HRM, great to see they've updated it, hopefully it will get the level of love that people give The Dude Fyi the Hot Rubber Monkey mod referes to putting a passive tone stack after the OD stage in the preamp
They never experiment with the guitar volume and tone knobs? IME, the mark of any good Fuzz or Drive is the input sensitivity; I'd think that Pete would be all over that. And no mas on the Jordon Boss tone? Must be a cross channel thing; it's a well known design in the States.
More magnificent drives... you can see Pete running out of superlatives! How do his ears cope, how does he form unbiased and objective opinions, doing this day in and day out? 😅
Unfortunately the microphone can’t handle the volume (or the input gain of the audio interface is overloading (I’m sorry, English is not my native language)…, ‘cause what I hear, especially with the Mythos pedal, it sounds crazy good when Pete hits the first note and within a second the volume level drops and it alters the sound drastically into a wet farty fuzz. If it wasn’t for the three or four times when I could hear the magnificence of the pedal’s tone for just a second, I would have still wondered why Zach made such a bad sounding pedal, while in fact it sounds amazing. 😳 And then with the second pedal, the origin effects Halcyon, in the way they used the adaptive mode, there’s actually not much happening at all, because the great thing about that mode is the fact that it brightens up the tone when you play softly, so it doesn’t get muddy. You could compare it to a treble bleed on the volume control of your guitar. And then there’s the wonderful idea of the dry blend. A function that usually doesn’t work well on gain pedals, but on this pedal it works perfectly. Unfortunately it stayed on zero until the last guitar run and it didn’t get any attention. 😳 I’m sorry guys, you’ve done many great demos. This wasn’t one of those.
What happened to British classical education? Hephaestus is the "Greek god of artisans, blacksmiths, carpenters, craftsmen, fire, metallurgy, metalworking, sculpture and volcanoes." He made the Shield of Achilles.
@@andertons Not that I know of. He wasn't known for his sense of humor. Though he did catch his wife Aphrodite (Venus) messing around with Ares (Mars) with a magic net he made.
Could the Great Dane help us figure out how to get good sounds out of a Ravish Sitar pedal from Electro Harmonix. It my most expensive pedal that I can't figure out.
Something with the Sound recording from the first pedal went wrong!!! The pedal sounds in nearly all knob positions same fuzzy and sometimes there are some short crackles with different sounds.
The crackles are the voltage discharge that you get with some vintage style fuzz pedals - its not a fault, but it does crackle when you adjust the knob. In terms of the tones, nothing is wrong with the recording, thats just what the pedal sounds like
Is it just me, or does Pete look a little hungover in this? Either that, or he has a case o’ the meat sweats. Do they have an all you can eat Golden Corral buffet in the UK?
Thanks for checking out the Halcyon Gold!
If anyone has any questions, feel free to drop them to us here.
Might be my first analog pedal purchase ever
Did you have the bass community in mind by adding the full range drive options?
@@buelow123 Not specifically, but it can certainly be useful for bass players.
Do you ship to Johannesburg?
@@thandodot I believe so. Alternatively I think South African customers have historically ordered from Australian dealers.
Hephaestus is the God of artisans, blacksmiths, metalworkong and volcanoes.
bravo!
Tales From The Pedal Cabinet has been my life force this year. Absolutely love it ✌️
The Captain and Mister Pete, my favorite duo, glad to see you both. Thanks for the awesome content.
Pete absolutely dying but providing an excellent demo as ever. That halcyon is fantastic
Halcyon Gold sounded Killer!
I picked up an HRM the other day. I'm a big J Rockett fan. They really make some amazing stuff. The Dude V2 is one of my favorite pedals, and I'm also loving this new one.
I love this series! Gives us all a chance to "try" these pedals that we rarely see in stores.
That gold style tele looks beautiful!
The original Expandora was a big part of Billy Gibbons OG sound…of course, being Billy Gibbons, he used a bunch of them strung together.
I believe it's also the basis for the jhs kilt! The og expandora was that same circular shape and had a bunch of dip switches on the front. Super interesting circuit
Lmao I forgot billy literally put like five of them one on top of the other on a shelf type thing. That's goofy and awesome
Love you guys. Whenever I want to know whats up with new gear you guys are my go to channel. Greetings from Switzerland.
Nice matching guitar (tele) with the Halycon ;-) Great FAT sound!
That’s the halcyon gold pre ordered from Andertons. Couldn’t resist!!
Yes please do a Klon shootout in the way you did Rabea's favorite Fuzz and Reverb pedal blind shootout. Those were awesome. This new pedal demo is awesome too!!!
They did that already! 😊😊
In fact, I’m curious how this new lineup stacks against the Tumnus (which won that previous video).
Seeing a reissue of bixonic expanders is cool. A shoot out with the kilt I would love to see.
Love that Gold tele, looks and Sound amazing 😮
That Halcyonbsounds awesome. i like that you can customize whether single coil or humbucker. might make it easy to switch guitars playing a gig

I’m simple, I see Pete and I click!
It's like catnip!
Yup, me too. He's the main reason I watch the channel but I do like the Capt and others
I don't play guitar, am not even close to buying one, let alone learning.
But, I do that the same.
me too. but i click dislike. they even didn’t spent time to read the manuals.
Lee,You need to put a cot in the war room so Pete can nap.He is looking worn out 😂
I had an Expandora way back in the day. It was endorsed by Billy Gibbons and used to have internal switches in it.
Can spend hours watching these two.
Good craic
Thanks lads
Some killer tones, Pete 👍
Details on the Hanson T-style or a link guys?...
The pedal is also a favourite of Josh Scott and was pretty popular through the late 60s and early 70s, where it wasn't always maxxed out ;)

That Hepatitis sounded great!
Loved the intro guys. So nice🎉😂
That Les Paul sounded amazing
That first Les Paul tone out of the Halcyon was PERFECT
Lee an d you RUINED IT
Should have looked at the Halcyon manual. The "adaptive" modes dynamically roll off the mid-range Klon hump the more gently you play and by working the guitar volume control. When used properly, the Halcyon will win the race. It's a dynamically controlled Klon.
Amazing. how almost all overdrives sound so similar

@andertons or does my hero use it!!
How did the cap hold it together when Pete said he had a warning knob, i laughed my ass off
The thing with the expandora I think is because of the headroom in the pedal: with tele single coils there is so much headroom that settings do not make so much difference, whilst with Humbuckers you just fill all the headroom of the pedal...
The fuzz pedal sounded super super different mic'd compared to when we got snippets of the room sound. More room mic previews would be awesome to get that in-the-room feel :D
I think they could do what Ola Englund does and blend the amp and room mics
billy gibbons loved expandoras they had lots of lights around the sides...he had loads on stage just for the lights.
I think the Hunchback of Notre Dame had a Mid-Hump. So if you have the same affliction, you might want to see a Doctor, a Sorcerer, or a Witch.
All these fuzzes sound so alike but with different bias points set internally.
Wow, that Halcyon is marvellous. The rubber monkey after it sounds so lifeless and undynamic.
Should i get this or the green one? I’m having a rough time deciding which one to buy to be my only od pedal… maybe the blues driver will do the work too and it’s half the price
Rockett HRM [ Hot Rodded Marshall] is a Dumble Marshall. Great brand and pedal
I looked at the first 2 on Andertons and they're E X P E N S I V E. Too rich for my blood
The Expandora is a favorite of Billy Gibbons.
Those halcyon days of my youth.
I think Halcyon is actually a word meaning Kingfisher. Not sure why, as it's never used in this way. Maybe they both have killer tone.
The best and cheapest Klon type pedal without snakeoil and fairydust, is the BYOC Silver Pony. The circuit is spot on the original. You have to build (solder) the bugger yourself, but it is so worth it.

I bet you can play a mean Dopesmoker with that first pedal on full
Pete is an infinitely better demo player than anyone else on this show
HALCYON the most dangerous benzodiacepin which was taken off the market sounds amazing in pedal format.
Not sure if it’s still the case, but Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top was a big Expandora user years ago.
I feel like i saw a JHS video where josh said the Kilt is kinda based on a modded expandora? Origin was already getting my money with the Halcyon gold, but i might have to look into the expandora as well 🤔
BTW, the JHS Kilt is based on that Expandora.
Benson and Ledges, for the smokey tone
Pete, you’re way too confident that you’re not going to drop your guitar when you bent over to check the spelling on that one pedal than I would have been lmao
The expandora circuit is neet, seems to be sensitive to the type of pick-ups. The ledges sounds like a ringmod.
Noooooo! I'd decided on a Tumnus Deluxe and then you guy do this. It's cruel! The Halcyon Gold is pretty amazing - but is there something even better just around the corner?

Fyi the Hot Rubber Monkey mod referes to putting a passive tone stack after the OD stage in the preamp
Idea for a video: Track down anyone with a Dumble that you can find and see how many you can get in one place to shoot out!
Lee had never heard of the Expandora?? Now I feel old.
How about the JHS Kilt? It’s based on the Expandora.
Why didn't you guys ever include the MXR Shin-Juku drive in any of your videos? It's a really cool one. I hope you do it
I died laughing throughout this episode 😂
Am I right in thinking the JHS Kilt is based on the original Expandora circuit?
Spooky season is upon us!
Isn't the Expandora a tweaked version of the old Bixonic pedal that Billt Gibbons raved about?
I hope Pete is okay after consuming Liquid Death.
This was funnier than That Pedal Show
They never experiment with the guitar volume and tone knobs? IME, the mark of any good Fuzz or Drive is the input sensitivity; I'd think that Pete would be all over that.

HRM is close to the almost mythical Bad Monkey.
Could the Great Dane help us figure out how to get good sounds out of a Ravish Sitar pedal from Electro Harmonix. It my most expensive pedal that I can't figure out.
Would you both "Please" Do a comparison between JRocket HRM vs Digitech Bad Monkey ??
Aren't you supposed to turn the guitarvolume down when auditioning the adapt setting of the Halcyon?
SOMEONE in the world must be able to arrange for Pete to play a Dumble?
I want to know what Lee told Pete not to say when he was trying to pronounce Hephaestus. 🧐
If the Hephestrus, Halcyon, and Expandora went on a wine-induced, toga-clad bender around Atlantis what kind of love child would they have?
Was that a Builders Bum at 29:20?
What's wrong with the volume? For me, it's changing a lot during playing the guitar. ...at least when the first pedal was used
I lost it on Thick and Creamy Sustain...
Top End = Presence
Andertons we can hear the effects if the sounds is capture in the video
J. Rockett Archer Select
Bet the Halcyon has already sold out-maybe my favorite sounding pedal like, ever.
Is it me or are pedal prices 📈
