  • My father and I decided to take a last minute trip down to the Talladega National Forest for a weekend of camping and exploring the trails. After finding the campsite closed, we had to improvise but had a great time exploring 600-1 and 600-2.

You might have missed the best overlook on 600-1. You'll miss it if you're not looking for it. It's between the fire tower and power lines. Also if you go back you can sleep at those look outs.

It’s true, that is one of the prettier overlooks.. We did stop by but didn’t take any video. I’ve been going up there for probably 15 or more years and never stayed at the overlook. Depending on which ranger you ask, depends on if they think it’s legal. The last few years everyone seems to agree it’s ok so maybe I’ll go back down soon.

@@ScenicCityAdventures yeah we never had a issue with the ranger there. Backpackers camp there all the time, there is a hiking trail on the ridge.

Sweet! We’ll have to go back soon. I’m heading to Oregon in March to get my new camper, maybe we’ll go back down there with the new Super Pacific for some winter camping.

You keep a weed torch to start fires, but carry a backpacking kitchen kit?

😂 Priorities! Gotta have a good fire. But seriously, I love my compact kitchen set. It’s everything I need in a small kit.

Shoot, I don’t remember the name. On the map we got from the ranger it was the one furthest away from the state park.

I have gone there several times not living but an hour away.. I would be interested in the GPS location to the camp site. I have wanted to stay there but never found a spot like that.

Very nice! Im jealous but, i just dropped another marker on google maps so thanks! Escape update : I was home this weekend so I installed a thicker rad, CB & antenna, upgraded headlight bulbs and the winch, that took some thinking and fabricating. Ill be home in 2 weeks to do new control arms and lift kit then its just small stuff like GPS , phone mounts and AC invertor. Cant wait to hit some trails!

You missed several beautiful dispersed campsites near the overlook - all legal. I never stay at the hunt camps. They do tend to be trashy relative to the dispersed sites.

    • @ScenicCityAdventures

There are some beautiful campsites on the overlooks, I’ve always wondered about the legality of them. Obviously dispersed camping is legal, but getting off of the trail isn’t so there’s been some big arguments on a lot of the forums over the years. I have stayed there but don’t openly promote them if that makes sense

ScenicCity Overland I know of at least one occasion I’ve camped right on the edge of that overlook in a vehicle and a ranger drove by at least one time, maybe twice. He must not have had issues with it.

Awesome, I’m glad to hear it! We’ve been parked there when rangers come up to talk, but never while camping. Be careful, there were tons of nails and screws in a couple of the overlooks last time. Bring a magnet.

I’m sorry to see you go, there will be a lot more adventures to come.
Unfortunately campsite around the country and getting trashed and shutdown because they are being highlighted in social media. I choose not to be part of that problem. That bring said, there is usually enough info in my videos for people to find the locations with a little exploring. You know the area is Cheaha mountain, and I mentioned they were hunting camps. Grab a map from the state park and check out the hunting camps on it. You may find what you are looking for.

@@ScenicCityAdventures I live in Alabama and am a member of Leave No Trace - center for outdoor ethics. This is part of what we do is to clean up and educate. By not sharing and allowing others and us to act you are actually part of the problem. I have carried out over 1000lbs of trash in the last 2 years. I wanted to know specifically so we can get there and clean it up.

    • @ScenicCityAdventures
      @ScenicCityAdventures  4 года назад +6

That’s great to hear. Unfortunately not everyone who reads my comments will help take care of our resources. If you’d like more info on the location you can reach out to me on either FB or IG privately. I’d love to help coordinate a cleanup, but I’m not willing to share locations publicly. It often leads to bigger problems with trash and over use. The LNT methodology even states “Think before you Geotag”. It’s a stand myself and many others in the community have taken to help safeguard some locations.
