I think "Gone" does match the vibe of Late Registration.. it's very cinematic in production, like the rest of the album.. it's jus cinematic in a Disney way.. I can imagine them making a video that looks like Disney's Fantasia to the song

All Falls Down originally sampled Lauryn Hill's song Mystery Of Iniquity on the hook but Lauryn Hill wouldn't clear the sample. Kanye West then asked Syleena Johnson to re-sing it but switch it up and put her flare to it so that they wouldn't have to get clearance for doing it the exact same way. ANYBODY WHO WATCHED THE JAMIE FOXX SHOW KNEW WHAT WAS UP the only reason the old album couldn’t do what it needed to is because the reception of actor to singer or rapper was a no no somehow the opposite was more acceptable
808s replaces late registration anyday. Late reg is like number 8. Because it Just feels like “Collage dropout leftovers” + Heard em say and touch the sky
I'm surprised that Graduation ranked really high since there were a few bad or corny songs on it (I'm looking at you,"Drunk and Hot Girls (w/ Mos Def)" but it's a solid album. However, I'm not surprised that "Jesus Is King" ranked really low. What a massive let down, not only as a Ye album, but as a "Christian Rap Album". :(
13:04 Gold Digger was originally written for Shawnna's 2004 debut album Worth Tha Weight. The hook originally went "I'm not sayin' I'm a gold digger, but I ain't messin' with no broke niggas" Kanye West's A&R rep, Patrick "Plain Pat" Reynolds, said "He did that beat a while before the movie ['Ray'] was even thought of, he did the beat at Ludacris' house in Atlanta and he did it for Shawnna. She passed on it, actually. I'm not sure why." The song had originally used a sample of Ray Charles' song I Got a Woman. Kanye West got the idea to put Jamie Foxx on the song after he went to see the movie "Ray" with his friend John Mayer. Patrick "Plain Pat" Reynolds, said "It was the natural thing, if we couldn't clear the sample, we were going to use Jamie. There's actually a version with Jamie singing all the way through the song. It's good, but it didn't feel the same because we had to replay the instruments too. Jamie went in the booth and recorded a whole bunch of takes, the beginning -- 'She takes my mon-eeee' -- was an ad lib. It was actually a lot dirtier. But after he recorded it, Jamie like, 'Y'all can't use that.' He was cursing on it."
13:50 Barry Bonds was also supposed to feature Jay-Z on it. In a 2007 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jay-Z said it got late in the day so he couldn't do the song. Entertainment Weekly "Kanye’s last two albums both had great, full verses from you, and this one you don’t spit a verse. Why’s that?" Jay-Z: "Well, I was going to do ”Barry Bonds,” but it was late in the day, so I didn’t get to do it."
"Words being blanked out can ruin a vibe" Yesssss. I understand the point of having censored albums, but there should always be an explicit version to go along with it (and vice versa).
John Monopoly, who's Kanye West's friend, manager and business partner, said "I was working A&R at Jive at the time and one of the beats he was gonna sell me for one of my projects [turned out to be] Get Em High, which is one of the most acclaimed joints on the album, it was one of them things where I was like 'Nigga, you not gonna use this? Let me buy this right now.' We was so excited about [the beat]."
Hard to do Kanyes catalogue. Personal favorite project is The Freshman Adjustment with the heavy soul cuts. But Album wise: Late Registration MBDTF Graduation College Dropout TLOP
2:31 Drake also originally did the hook in the song Yikes. Pi'erre Bourne, who did additional production, said “And honestly, not too many people know that Drake wrote that. He sung the hook. When I was there, they were on the song together. Everyone was cheering me on because they were like, ‘You’ve got Drake and Kanye on your beat.’ I didn’t even know. I was just working with Travis or something and then they came up to me like, ‘Yeah, man, you’ve got Drake and Kanye on your beat,' I’m like, ‘Swear to God?’ And they weren’t lying. But when the album came out, he wasn’t on there. So I was just like, maybe this is how the industry is. You can’t say nothing, so I just got back to work.”

The beat from Heartless was originally for Jay-Z. No I.D., who co-produced the song, said “Heartless was actually for Blueprint 3. I remember when we got to that record, Kanye heard it and said ‘Nope, I’m keeping this one for myself.’ And I was like, ‘Come on man, you’re not even working on an album.’ And he said ‘Now I am.’ [Laughs.] Jay was sitting there waiting on beats for the album, and here we go embarking on a whole other album.” He also said “Jay wasn’t mad that Ye got it, because that’s par for the course. You know, he just kinda looked at me like ‘Yo, where are some more of them beats?’” The beat for Dark Fantasy was also originally for Jay-Z and then it was given to Drake as No I.D. said “That actually started out as a Blueprint 3 record. It was going to be the intro for that album. Then Jay changed his mind, so we revamped the record and gave it to Drake. That record ended up going through a lot of phases.” So Appalled was also for Jay-Z and then Kanye West gave it to Puff Daddy aka P. Diddy. No I.D. said “When it was being made in Hawaii it was just Kanye and Pusha on it; and I remember Jay coming in and saying ‘Oh word? You’re just not gonna put me on that record? Oh word?’ the record was something we’d initially cut for The Blueprint 3 and the files got lost. So the record was in limbo because we couldn’t find the files. We were just searching everywhere for that beat. Jay didn’t hear it again until Pusha and Ye were on it, and then we added Cy-Hi later. Funny thing is, when it didn’t end up going to Jay, me and Ye were in the studio in California, and Ye started freestyling verses and he said ‘I’m gonna give this to Puff.’ And I was like ‘Are you sure?’ And somehow that version that Ye did for Puff leaked on the internet. It didn’t end up making Dirty Money, but it was too good just to let be an internet leak. So it eventually became Ye’s record.”

Ye at 9? Ghost town, violent crimes, all mine, yikes….

You clearly are a post Graduation Kanye fan lol

Great episode, I got to go with College Dropout as my favorite. MBDTF comes in second. Hmm hopefully I win the vinyl give away haha
ANYBODY WHO WATCHED THE JAMIE FOXX SHOW KNEW WHAT WAS UP the only reason the old album couldn’t do what it needed to is because the reception of actor to singer or rapper was a no no somehow the opposite was more acceptable
Donda over Yeezus AND 808's?!?! DAMN! *Kung Fu Kenny Voice*
808s definitely higher for me. Great list man
808s replaces late registration anyday.
"WITH STREET LIGHTS BEING A SKIP" ...............WHAT BRO
Exactly what I was thinking 💀
13:04 Gold Digger was originally written for Shawnna's 2004 debut album Worth Tha Weight. The hook originally went "I'm not sayin' I'm a gold digger, but I ain't messin' with no broke niggas" Kanye West's A&R rep, Patrick "Plain Pat" Reynolds, said "He did that beat a while before the movie ['Ray'] was even thought of, he did the beat at Ludacris' house in Atlanta and he did it for Shawnna. She passed on it, actually. I'm not sure why."
The song had originally used a sample of Ray Charles' song I Got a Woman.
Why’s that?"
Jay-Z: "Well, I was going to do ”Barry Bonds,” but it was late in the day, so I didn’t get to do it."
Don’t ever disrespect Street Lights like that again
Great list. Agree with everything except the top 3, I would’ve just put MBDTF at 3, late registration at 2 and graduation at 1
“Top 2 Rozay verse, and it isn’t 2.” This mf too funny I gotta subscribe despite the horrendous list

10:24 You missed the perfect opportunity to mention Jay-Z's The Black Album which is what the title of that Kanye West album may as well be
The beat from Heartless was originally for Jay-Z. You know, he just kinda looked at me like ‘Yo, where are some more of them beats?’”
The beat for Dark Fantasy was also originally for Jay-Z and then it was given to Drake as No I.D. said “That actually started out as a Blueprint 3 record. It was going to be the intro for that album. Then Jay changed his mind, so we revamped the record and gave it to Drake. That record ended up going through a lot of phases.”
So Appalled was also for Jay-Z and then Kanye West gave it to Puff Daddy aka P. Diddy. No I.D. said “When it was being made in Hawaii it was just Kanye and Pusha on it; and I remember Jay coming in and saying ‘Oh word?
From my understanding wasn’t dark fantasy coproduce by the RZA ? It sounds like it if it wasn’t sounds like an old Wu-Tang beat
One of the most solid Kanye album lists I’ve seen, but I would switch Late Registration with Yeezus.
