"ONE A BIT UNCOMFORTABLE THING IS..." - NOVA Paragliders CODEX Test & Review

  • Nova Paragliders CODEX review after few months of paragliding in a wide variety of conditions in Colombia and the UK. Carlo did most of his testing of the CODEX (size S) over several epic flying days in Colombia, and then some more on some good paragliding days back in the UK. Nancy tested the CODEX in her size (XS) in the UK.
The CODEX is an EN C certified 2-liner with 65 cells and a modest aspect ratio of 6.1 flat. That's the same aspect ratio as some high B paragliding wings, although some say those are really hot B wings! Nova's tagline for the CODEX is "Accessible two-liner performance". They claim it's well-balanced and "... impresses with high performance" despite being "very easy… due to the low aspect ratio… ". But how easy is it really, in demanding conditions? And how well does it perform, compared to other current EN C 2 liners?

This is your best review to date and you’ve had some great reviews previously. I loved having both perspectives and having the additional detail with the text on the screen. Thanks!

Although I'm sure that there are days when the rain which produces the incredible green grassy meadows, horizon to horizon where you fly, you probably would be happier to be out in the desert, I am extremely envious of the terrain that you fly in. Every one of our launches is filled with sharp rocks, nasty cactuses and dry twisty twiggy plants which do their best to snag, catch, break and otherwise destroy our wings.
I hope that while you're running down those grassy slopes for those easy launches, you are appreciative of what you've got!

I'm learning to fly in Minnesota and it is very flat so they have to tow me. I've always been happy about the landing area being about a thousand yards on each side and the next one is just across the road about the same size. Landing is bad enough on clay soil with corn stalks bump in your I suppose hitting rocks and cactus would be pretty tough.

We do! 🥰😍🤗 We've flown in quite a few places around the world, including hot deserts and places with aggressive terrain and flora (and fauna!), so we know what it's like! 😉

There's always one demon in the desert. They call it Big sky country. If you catch an updraft that is so powerful it is forming a huge cloud and you ride to high you will get sucked up into this big sky cloud and the cloud will grow horizontally faster than you can fly. That's one thing that has caught a few people by surprise.

Happy to hear your thoughts on the codex after your thorough journey with all of the new 2 liners c’s. I think the codex is my next glider.
Now the WV race is a big contender for my next harness, any comments on it compared to the weightless or arrow p? Hoping a video review is in the pipeline :)

Niviuk Arrow P / Race, and Woody Valley Race reviews in the pipeline, after several months and many hours of testing! Actually Nancy and I have already completed filming for the Arrow P / Race (finally!!!), and we just need to record the final commentary for the WV Race! 😃

Really like this glider, used it in two competitions and I find the sink rate on half bar is on par with the photon and R, maybe even a little better.

Hey guys, you said a while ago, that when you're done with the 2-liner reviews, you'd consider doing a parakite review.
I got a Mullet X 23.5m2, a Moustache 18, and a flare line 15. You can have them all for a test day, if you come to Switzerland ;)

All new innovations of paragliders go into the direction of parakites. The more weight distributions to A and B lines, the roles for B-steering etc.
Parakite is just that on steroids. The best safety you could ever wish for, on ground, as well as in air.
You miss out an absolutely amazing innovation movement if you don't touch the topic at some point ;)

I’ve heard heaps of people say “I’ll never fly another wing without nitinol” but I’ve never heard anyone say “I’ll only fly wings with nylon”.

I've been flying the Codex M now for about 20 hours in the Alps and I really have no idea what you mean about the wingtips 'bouncing'. After all the positive comments, it seems a bit unfair to use this "IN CAPITAL LETTERS" as the title for you video... bit unfair on NOVA Bubble Guys?
