I was a college student when Angela Davis was on the run. When going into NYC with three friends, we were stopped by the police, as we were approaching the Lincoln Tunnel. All of us had afros and at that moment clearly understood what was really going on.

When I was an undergrad at the University of Pittsburgh, I took a class called the History of Black Pittsburgh. One of our textbooks was "Legacies In Brick and Mortar." I said that because I'm excited to think that undergraduate students may study "Knarrative" in 50yrs in their Black history classes.

Funny that this ep. is on George Jackson. When I was a teenager I read books on the Panthers, Davis, Leroi Jones etc. My father died when I was 15 and one of the few books he had in his collection was Soledad Brother. I picked up the book but didn't read it for decades. Three yrs ago I read it and couldn't believe my father had that book and never talked about it. Very powerful. The book was far from new so I figured my father must have read it. Anyway it renewed my writing to my family.

R.I.P. Dr. Rashidi. I love that Dr. Carr spoke about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was a superlatively successful Dalit who fought for his people. He wrote about the inspiration he drew from the fight for African-American liberation and was in communication with some leaders here. He also wrote clearly about why he didn't consider Gandhi a "mahatma"("great soul"); Gandhi went on a fast in Puna/Poona India to protest Ambedkar wanting representation for the Dalit people. Dalits were attacked in the streets and warned they'd suffer if Gandhi died. Ambedkar had to give in.

That was long ago, and far away. One of the things I so enjoy about your videos is this great meshing of things I had all but forgotten, and things I’ve experienced since the initial memory. After living in the south for about 45 years; my experiences and surroundings changed so much, and I think many of the books I read long ago would resonate so differently today. Appreciate the memory joggers.

AMAZING ❣️ The parallels & "filled in blanks" between this lesson (Ep.74) & an earlier lesson on "Revolution vs. Reform", is Simply Astounding 💪🏾 & Highly Appreciated ✊🏿 Professors Hunter & Dr. Carr....❣️ Thank y'all ❤️🖤💚
