- How to fly a VOR made simple! In this video I will show you how to tune, and navigate a VOR as simple as possible! VORs are an eesential part of IFR flying, and can be very useful when flying VFR. New student pilots may find it confusing but trust me, it is much easier to understand once you see it in action. While in flight, I will tune a VOR and show you hot to fly TO and FROM, as well as some useful tricks to help you grasp the basics. Whether you're a private pilot, commercial pilot, or an experienced airline pilot, navigation using VOR's is a normal part of everyday flying, especially IFR. Instrument pilots often tell me that understanding how to tune and fly VOR tracks is a challenge, but once you understand it, it becomes one of the easiest tools in the cockpit! I obtained my pilot certificate in 1976 so my “go to” navigation aid was a VOR in those days. I thought it was extremely easy to use! Never got lost. You have to always remember to verify that you are tuned to the correct VOR frequency though.
Yes!!! I learned to fly in the early 2006 and surprisingly VOR’s were very common then as well. It is amazing to see a lot of pilots now that don’t know how to use them or use them proficiently I actually found the VORs to be very easy too! :)
Stop bragging
Perfect timing. Headed into the flight school this morning to brush up on my VOR for my CPL check ride. Thanks Evan 👍👍
Haha awesome!!! Perfect timing!! If you come out with any pointers, feel free to post them here and I’ll pin the comment for others to see as well! :) ✈️👍👍 have fun in there!!
Training at this moment VOR/DME approach and i had never realized that you could use your cdi to now which radial you are crossing, could definitely help me out sometime if im looking for my airport while IFR. Thanks Evan!
Awesome video and easy to understand. Thank you
Great work - thank you ❤
Thanks man for this one. It was very useful for me.
I’m so glad!! And any tips you can give me and the viewers that you’d like to share as well feel free to post them!
Thank you! This video has helped me understand vor 👍
I've seen you on insta and always loved your videos. Now since im doing my CPL im watching you teach a VOR lol
Haha thanks so much man!!!! :) :)
Absolutely love your videos. Working on my ATPL over here in Germany, and any and all review of these concepts is overwhelmingly helpful 🙏 bonus that Germany and Canada both operate under ICAO (I think). Keep the videos coming please 😁
Hey Mate, I think longer videos would be awesome! Love the content.... full flights?
Awesome thanks so much!! Yup I’ve got some I’m ready to post!! :) been building a little backlog of full flights to post! :) or half flights posted as 2 videos :)
Vey cool. Flying Vlogs are super entertaining. @@EvanLuft
Could you please do a video about holds as you fly a hold?
I would gladly do that!! Stay tuned!!! I like when people give me suggestions! :) so I appreciate it! And also… let me know what you think of the videos I post too because I always want to make sure they are improving :) I appreciate criticism as well :)
@@EvanLuft I thought this video could’ve been improved if you actually tracked inbound and outbound with said VOR
Outstanding and easy to assimilate video. It appears you are in a King air. What model?
What is your advice for studying for the PPL checkride?
Aqwesome. Thanks :)
Wait, do you turn your aircraft to that heading or wait till the cdi centers then turn, or center the cdi manually then turn?
i am a student and want to become a commercial pilot any advice ?
Evan can u tell me how many grades to study to become a pilot do we need any university degree or just college ??
Man you do whatever in the end it will just be money costful, doesnt mean you should stop working at school 😉
I want to become a flight instructor in Canada please tell me how can I become one
Ty 👍🏻✈️🛫🛫🛬
Currently an instrument student. Real world, VOR’s don’t seam too difficult. As for the written test material, frackin confusing and a lot harder!
I completely agree! Flying via wars in understanding how they work is very simple in real life however, as soon as you start to draw them out and look at them critically on a piece of paper, they are so confusing!!!
Do you have a "VOR 101" video for non.pilots?
very good.... would be a bit better if hold the camera.. and comments a bit longer.. as a bit too fast
Can someone tell me what plane Evan flies?
Stupid question. At 1.31 howndo you know you have turned the CDI in the correct direction?
I know you said it is cdi even i can see the title cdi there but isn’t it actually hsi .?.
I have two Garmin G5.
And a Garmin Aera 660.
And a basic VHF com radio
Can I do VOR Navigation?
Can’t my GPS follow a VOR radial even if it’s not using the actual VOR radio signal?
Technically no, BUT it would follow the track if the track is between/to/from a VOR waypoint if it is in the GPS. Basically like NDBs. They may not be serviceable in real life but their still in the GPS database as a waypoint and therefore you can fly to the waypoint as if it was the original NDB. :)
Great Video :)! can someone give me the name of the intro song @0:18
What location is at 0:23 ?
What about triangulation using vor?
I could do a demonstration actually :) I’ll make one using the garmin pilot app
@@EvanLuft oo have you done a comparison between Garmin pilot and foreflight?
For a novice this is extremely confusing 😂
I think your best advice here is just do it over and over again. This applies to not only to VORs but most other instrument flight devices. Especially if you can do it over and over on MSFS. Nobody gets hurt... except for your ego.
Cessna ###?
I didn't understand shit 😃i still have a long way to go, wish me luck!
Hey Evan I am big fan of u and aviation and want to become pilot in future
Can I have the shootout to my aviation channel pls 😢❤
Hey that’s great to hear!! I’ll check out your channel!
@EvanLuft I hope u checked his channel
I feel really dumb after watching this (not a pilot)
