  • How to fly a VOR made simple! In this video I will show you how to tune, and navigate a VOR as simple as possible! VORs are an eesential part of IFR flying, and can be very useful when flying VFR. New student pilots may find it confusing but trust me, it is much easier to understand once you see it in action. While in flight, I will tune a VOR and show you hot to fly TO and FROM, as well as some useful tricks to help you grasp the basics. Whether you're a private pilot, commercial pilot, or an experienced airline pilot, navigation using VOR's is a normal part of everyday flying, especially IFR. Instrument pilots often tell me that understanding how to tune and fly VOR tracks is a challenge, but once you understand it, it becomes one of the easiest tools in the cockpit! I obtained my pilot certificate in 1976 so my “go to” navigation aid was a VOR in those days. I thought it was extremely easy to use! Never got lost. You have to always remember to verify that you are tuned to the correct VOR frequency though.

      Yes!!! I learned to fly in the early 2006 and surprisingly VOR’s were very common then as well. It is amazing to see a lot of pilots now that don’t know how to use them or use them proficiently I actually found the VORs to be very easy too! :)

    Currently an instrument student. Real world, VOR’s don’t seam too difficult. As for the written test material, frackin confusing and a lot harder!

    • @EvanLuft
      @EvanLuft  9 месяцев назад +1

      I completely agree! Flying via wars in understanding how they work is very simple in real life however, as soon as you start to draw them out and look at them critically on a piece of paper, they are so confusing!!!

    I have two Garmin G5.
    And a Garmin Aera 660.
    And a basic VHF com radio
    Can I do VOR Navigation?
    Can’t my GPS follow a VOR radial even if it’s not using the actual VOR radio signal?

    • @EvanLuft
      @EvanLuft  9 месяцев назад

      Technically no, BUT it would follow the track if the track is between/to/from a VOR waypoint if it is in the GPS. Basically like NDBs. They may not be serviceable in real life but their still in the GPS database as a waypoint and therefore you can fly to the waypoint as if it was the original NDB. :)

    I think your best advice here is just do it over and over again. This applies to not only to VORs but most other instrument flight devices. Especially if you can do it over and over on MSFS. Nobody gets hurt... except for your ego.
