I used to have woodless color pencils when I was about 7 years old. And I used to hate them, because they break really easily. So I took all of them and shaved them, then I put clear glue on a paper and sprinkled the shaving on that paper and it looked so good! Sure my mom got angry at me for "wasting" the pencils, but I didn't care because they looked pretty good.
I just got sent woodless color pencils and I've been really conflicted about the idea of them, now after seeing this they look like a novelty more than anything genuinely helpful 😂 regardless though, you've done an incredible job TEACH ME YOUR PENCIL MAGIC WAYS
Lillie Gearheart yeah, I agree. I used them a lot more 2 years ago and I’ve stopped using the cause they snap and don’t sharpen. I can’t afford nice prismacolors but I have the a Scholar’s and they’re not bad
The white in most oil based pencils aren't going to be very opaque. So comparing a wax based pencil to an oil based pencil in terms of opacity is usually unfair.
marquise Washington she's just basing it on the fact that if you have a white pencil, you want it to be white, not really about the formula, but I understand where you come from.
Not really. I think no matter what formula you use you should be able to EXPECT that the white will be opaque. If it's not, that's an inferior formula.
IDK IF I'M A MEXICAN POTATO OR AN AMERICAN POTATO yea I do love how she starts and finishes her channel. I've sub to her other channel to. can't wait for it to start.
Girl they are breaking because you are holding the pencil REALLY high up for some reason (thus why they are breaking at the center. I own these exact ones and I am SUPER heavy handed and haven't broken a single one because I hold my pencils further down. I own Poly's, Prismas, Marco Raffine, and these and these are just as pigmented as my prismas (although not every color). They don't blend as well, but I believe that is because these are supposedly an oil wax mix pencil. You need to remember that its pure pigment and is NOT in a casing so you can't hold them that far up and push hard like that. Of course they will break, Ipush really hard on mine, but hold them like a regular pencil and they have never broken.
She is holding them like that because that's actually the right way of holding pencils and color pencils while drawing. I'm going to drawing school like 3 years I think and the one of the things I've learned is that you shouldn't put to much pressure on pencil while painting/drawing with it, and you should hold it further, almost till the top, because if you're holding them at the center or too much down, there would be more unneeded pigment and you will cover up smaller part of the paper than if you're holding them more up. But while you're holding them more to the top, you should relax your hand and pencil should be closer to the paper. I hope you understood anything I've just said 😂💗
I have the wood less coloured pencils that are shown at 0:27 on the far left, and they work perfectly fine, some were not brighter than others, they were all consistent and nicely pigmented, also none of mine snapped mine also blend fine. Also comparing yours to mine I noticed that mine also look smoother. I’m pretty sure that it’s just a quality/ brand difference Edit: also mine aren’t shiny either...
I had woodless color pencil once, I think they they were called “crayons”😂 Edit: I just read the comments and it looks like many people have already thought of my joke
Crayons. These are crayons. Edit: Please don't be mean, this was just a joke. I am not talented or educated in art, I love to watch SuperRaeDizzle and other artists work their magic.❤❤❤
My art class has these and they are awesome to me. Edit: Also I like it because when you sharpen it and rub it I guess it makes a beautiful fade. I love them so much.
I use these colored pencils almost exclusively. Mine almost never break, unless I like, accidentally sit on them, but I bet that’s because I go very very light and slowly build up color, which also helps me with the skin tone issue. I also love that they get a super super fine point and almost never break when sharpening.
I have some of these and I like them. they don't layer too well if u start off really hard(which also causes them to break) And the white works ok as a blender. then again I'm no where near a pro when it comes to color pencils. long story short, I think u should try them again with a different method. I still liked the picture tho
But it actually isn't a really bad thing when it breaks in half because you can just sharpen both parts and use them. You can use the whole pencil until you completely run out of it. And many people purposely break them in half just to have more control and so they can press harder with a smaller piece.
I always use these kind of coloring pencils and I love them so much! The best pencils I ever had. How do you broke them? :D I drop them on the floor a LOT, 'cause I'm clumsy as heck, but I never broke any of them :D I would actually cry a lot if I broke one. I'm really not a professional, I just like drawing, so maybe thats why you didn't like them as much I am. Anyway great video, I just wanted to write down my opinion :D
One of the nicest comments I have seen asking her questions in this comment section! You seem like a nice person and obviously have just mastered these pencils!
I agree! I have these and love them! they are really nice to sketch with and add shading. I’ve never had an issue with breakage but I can see how heavier pressure could cause stress in the pencil and cause them to snap.
I've been giving these as presents for several years. Yes, they do break easily and no, they do not take many layers (3 at most), but they do make a great colored pencil for casual coloring. I keep a set on my desk at work. Also, if you want a pale background, the shavings move around easily enough with your fingertip or a tissue. You just gotta know your pencil.
I love the woodless colored pencils, they can break, but I just sharpen the part that breaks as well. I love that the points don't break, and don't have leads falling out. I wish there were larger sets, and more colors though! I fell in love with woodless drawing pencils first, and was thrilled when I found them in colored pencils! The drawing pencils don't break in half as easily.
Can you please test out Cretacolor classic colour pencils. It's like the one of the only few colour pencil brands that I see in at stores near me. As always loved the video.
OMG THIS MORNING I FOUND MY WOODLESS COLORED PENCILS THAT I HAVE NEVER USED AND THOUGHT, I WONDER IF SHE HAS OR WOULD EVER REVIEW THESE PENCILS!! I’M SHOCKED BECAUSE I NEVER SAOD IT OUT LOUD, I JUST THOUGJ OF IT AND THIS VIDEO JUST POPPED UP AND I’M SHOOK BUT OKAY. Love you most.
I'm late to the show and not sure if anyone else has recommended this, but these pencils are GREAT for doing highlight work on black or dark paper. It's pretty much the best use I've found for them.
I feel like I can shade a large area a bit better with the woodless ones, and I get a good point on them - but I still love my wood colored pencils! The woodless ones just don't work well for layering. I just use mine as a base.
I want her to do this! She said these are more expensive, but that's kind of a given because there's more than double the color of a regular color pencil??
You should go back and redo videos like these with improved technique that you've built on over the past year (i.e. layering lightly and not burnishing with one of your first layers) . Be interesting. Also, I've used these pencils several times... I was able to layer well and creative realism with them, just use a lighter hand (and I'm extremely heavy handed as well). Just for transparency, I do art professionally so I understand all of your points.
I have the same issues with that brand and would be super curious if its all woodless color pencils or just those. I would love to see you compare brands! I dont often use them for the reasons you mentioned, though Ive never had one break (It may be because I hold pencils wayyy farther down, like almost to the tip.) but what I do use a ton are regular graphite woodless pencils. They are amazing and last forever, plus there is no lead breakage when sharpening if they had been tossed around in my bag.
I have the same brand, they do snap however, they build better on Black paper, that and they combine well with regular colored pencils and Prisma color woodless volored pencils
I love ur channel rae!!! ur my inspiration! I stopped drawing for half a year, and then I see saw ur vids and I started again! I really love ur vids, BTW u should post more on your Snapchat!! 💯💯💯🙏🙏

Dear Rae, I loved this video so much and I thought hey! You should try the flexible colored pencils!!! If you already have sorry for making a already used suggestion.
these remind me of pencils that we had in poland when i was younger. We used to sharpen them to have that blended color cloud effect after rubbing the colorpowder onto a piece of paper. They were fun though
In Poland, there is a kids brand (used by mostly kids) sort of like crayola, with woodless pencils which are sort of dry, but pastel-y. It’s called bambino. They also snap like crazy. But, on the other hand they blend, shade, and layer really great. So, I know what u mean
I just discovered your channel and I love it! You have inspired me to start drawing again. I mostly draw Pokemon because that's what I'm the best at :)
Lil' Kenz I Heyheyhey! Dont be discouraged! Im sure Rae was in a similar spot as you! You just gotta *practice, practice, practice!* _dont give up!_ :)
I picked up these same wordless colored pencils and I actually liked them ok... so far I ly my white has broken, but to be fair i only used them a few times. I wish they had a wider selection of colors because you do have to use reeeeally light layers to build tones and shade things. They're my go to "airplane" pencils because they're compact and I honestly don't give a crap if they get lost...
I just found your video's and I gatta say, I'm loving them! (youtube suggested your rare paint colored videos and ive been hooked since lol) Keep up the good work!!! But to the point of my comment, I got that exact brand from my job when they first came out, and yeah, they came out because of the adult coloring books, and at the time they were actually cheaper then all the other color pencils at the time, ($10-$15 If I remember correctly?) and I'm not surprised that the cost went up... I do remember at one point they went up to $25....I have no idea what they are at now... But like you, I draw and color pretty heavy, but I think the reason mine haven't broken is cause I hold the mine close to the tip and not at the center or end (I know, blasphemy but I have hand issues lol). But that leads me to believe these were designed with normal every day people in mind (example, those who dont know the proper artist form of holding your tools of the trade). I've also noticed that if you don't color as hard, it tends to blend better, but like you said, do it too heavy or make it too thick and then it just doesnt work lol
I have this brand’s wordless pencils too. They...are good for experimentation but I wouldn’t consider them in the same league as Catania D’Ache or Faber-Casteel. Maybe similar to Prismas - scratchiness vs lead breakage headaches.
I have woodless graphite pencils and I had the same breaking issue with those!! I dropped one pencil and it just split in half. The inside had a weird powdery look as well. Another downside is that the whole pencil is graphite and your hands get just as dirty as they would using charcoal.
These blend effortlessly for me and layer well too, I'm noticing it's the way she's holding the pencil that is giving it it's muddied effect- if you get these draw them using the side of the tip do not draw with it directly on its point as she does
she does color it in from it's side at times but there are other times like when she is layering that she draws over it directly from its point (sorry hopefully this made sense) anywho she managed to make it look very nice at the end anyways!!! but this is just my suggestion :-)
Thank you for the review! I think it is spot on! I bought them so I wouldn´t have to waste my expensive pencils on covering larger areas. Blending or layering? Nope, not happening for me either.

In japan a lot of people have these but they're called クーピー ←(pronounced like kuupee)
park jimin I didn’t know Jiminie could speak Japanese! Lol jk hai Army

ARMY’s not a new thing tho
Ok......?
*sits on bed at looks into Rae's Mirror with no idea whats going on*
turns out dogs were taking over the world while i was starring at a mirror
I have this brand’s wordless pencils too. They...are good for experimentation but I wouldn’t consider them in the same league as Catania D’Ache or Faber-Casteel. Maybe similar to Prismas - scratchiness vs lead breakage headaches.
I have woodless graphite pencils and I had the same breaking issue with those!! I dropped one pencil and it just split in half. The inside had a weird powdery look as well. Another downside is that the whole pencil is graphite and your hands get just as dirty as they would using charcoal.
I've been binging her old vids and realized how much she says "I digress".
WOAH you look so different, not that that’s bad, btw great job 👍!!!
IDK why, but on the thumbnail I thought it said Woodles instead of Woodless
These blend effortlessly for me and layer well too, I'm noticing it's the way she's holding the pencil that is giving it it's muddied effect- if you get these draw them using the side of the tip do not draw with it directly on its point as she does
she does color it in from it's side at times but there are other times like when she is layering that she draws over it directly from its point (sorry hopefully this made sense) anywho she managed to make it look very nice at the end anyways!!! but this is just my suggestion :-)
she just have really heavy hand...she needs to learn how to draw more lightly... as i would say she's basically scratching not coloring... xD
Love that this was just recommended to me 😆 thanks Rae

When I sharpen them I keep the little flakes for blending ... It's messy yes but it's a way to get the most out of these

Hi stranger -things-
*boneless pencils*
I use woodless sometimes. I use the brand Stampin' Up although I don't think they sell them anymore
Thank you for the review! I think it is spot on! I bought them so I wouldn´t have to waste my expensive pencils on covering larger areas. Blending or layering? Nope, not happening for me either.
Wordless colored pencils
So...
Crayons?
Wordless??
Wood less*
Sienna De Mari pencil crayons do have some wax but also have different ingredients in them
Nice 👍
Wouldn't woodless colored pencils be large crayons? Dont say I'm dumb, just wondering.
They have a different formula! (I know I'm super late sorry)
I have those! That exact same box.. they're all broken in half or even three peaces, but i'm a starter and i like them.😊
I just got those exact ones as a gift and I immediately thought of this video, time to rewatch :D
