I have the hanger scale that you have and a table top scale. Made me a bit of a weight weenie. I knocked like 3 lbs off. Nothing wrong with a lighter bike.
I like to put a 20" shifter (adjustable wrench) on the end of my socket wrench to break my rear wheel nuts. It's always a pain when you have to take your bike out of the stand to break the rear wheel nuts. Also, I thought you ran an Odyssey Key Chain? I like the hub guards that come on the Revolution but find them to be a little soft and wear quickly on harsh ledges. Sounds like you're getting Ti pegs? I like foldable tyres and use the Maxxis Torches. Maybe consider Tubolitos if you don't get many flats? Finally, I got my spline-drive sprocket in the mail yesterday. Set it up and rode it yesterday afternoon. So far, so good!
I used to be a weight weenie, but a few years ago I went "you know what? F*ck it, I'm not gonna pay a million extra to take 10 grams off my bike!" So I stopped being a weight freak! Well, I still pay attention to the weight, I won't change my 5-pound modern frame for an old school, 8-pound one! Now I only try to get lighter parts for the wheels. 100 grams less on a frame doesn't really do much, but a 100 gram lighter tire for example, makes a HUGE difference!
That's pretty impressive. I know a couple people that have sunk ridiculous money into their bikes for weight difference. I wanted to build a lighter bike this time round to help my be able to ride for longer with my disabilities, it's lighter than my previous bike pretty easily & I've really not invested too much into super ultra lightweight parts. That said, my friend just finished a Titanium Flatland Bike, we're talking Ti Frame, Fork, Bars, Seat Post, Crank Arms, Spindle, Hub Bolts, Carbon Fibre Rims, Folding Tyres, Tubolito Tubes, the Front Hub has a Carbon Fibre Centre & Titanium Flanges!! He uses DT Swiss DB Spokes as they're actually lighter than Ti Spokes. Pretty sure every Bolt is Titanium also. Anyways, his complete bike weighs 16lbs 7oz I believe, it might be a couple more/less on the Ounces I'll ask him next time we speak, it's a thing of beauty!
That's exactly why I'm building a full ti bike. Let me ride longer plus hopefully make certain tricks hurt less. Disabilities can suck. However it's not really that hard when planning a fresh build. You just gotta pay attention. Odyssey or s&m forks Don't let you bars go over 2 pounds For cranks lots of options at acceptable weights. It's usually little stuff that people don't pay attention to. Tires is a big one. Shadow serpent are one of the lightest. Demo momentum are probably the lightest wire bead. You can go race tires or khe too. Stems sprockets hubs can be another big spot.
@@bmxriderforlife1234 Absolutely! Looking like I'm gunna need surgery again this year which wasn't part of the game plan haha, if I can avoid it then thank F**k lol. It gets really frustrating when you feel you could go out for an entire day's riding & your body is done by the time you get your bike out the house! I've made a whole bunch of progress over the last couple years, I've got some great family & friends keeping me focused on the end goal & something I really didn't think about too much until last summer, the smaller goals & smashing those is just as important. I wanted to be riding properly last summer so that this summer when my son will be turning 2 we can go on bike rides to the park & I wouldn't struggle with that kinda deal. Didn't work out so well but when I look back to the year before? I was on crutches not long out of a wheelchair y'know!? Barely able to hold a couple pints of milk! I know that was quite long, but hoped it'll remind you to keep an eye on the small wins adding up, plus when you get that sweet Ti Bike? You'll be able to see even more!
@@pirate_duck4985 I feel you I'm probably gonna have to have my neck surgery sooner then I wanted. Well not exactly neck, my spine in my neck to be exact. Nice dude stay strong. I don't really have a normal family anymore but got my friends that are basically my family. Smaller goals are deffs something to be proud of though. Don't worry dude you'll get there for your son. And don't sweat the little shit, remember just take shit slow and enjoy the time you have with him. Lol auto immune disease. Can't have biological children. And not sure I'm gonna date again. Was supposed to be a slightly modified custom s&m hucker frame but covid killed their custome. So Laird frame. Probably gonna go all Trans teal frame and fork and then chrome and polished everything else. White wall tires or tire paint on random tires. Early 90s kid but 80s inspired theme for the build, growing up the shop that helped me out a bunch was rum by this dude with the craziest collection of 80s bikes. And got to ride with a bunch of old pros current to the time pros and now pros lol. That build is gonna be fairly light too given 3 pegs a gyro and a coaster. But here's some teasers for you. Wheelset on the ti bike is gonna be sub 6 pounds with tires. That's with a coaster. And build at heaviest even if I give up trying to take the weight weenie title, is like 16.5 pounds before ti axles bolts spindles and any other weight savings. Such as brakes carbon bits and the like. At its lightest I can theoretically hit 13 flat rideable but no pegs no brakes and a stripped seat. Maybe lighter lol. Only custom bits required are ti drivers and axles for the hubs.
@@bmxriderforlife1234 Hahahaha that's utterly ridiculous, that's something I thought about too was giving up things I actually like or want to use for the sake of saving some weight actually worth the hassle? Decided no, Brant is making a very good point with this series too in that you don't have to give up items you actually want & use just to make your bike lighter. There are ways to make a bike that would under normal circumstances be heavier just because of all the extra parts. When it comes to weight savings people do tend to look at what can be removed vs what can be replaced. I get the former is a damn sight cheaper lol! But still if its something you're thinking out & looking to make those changes, replacement with lighter parts doesn't always mean sacrificing strength either! I wish you all the best with your neck & spine issues mate! They're never fun! I flirted with spinal issues & thankfully it was more to do with nerves in my shoulder area & some older damage to a vertebrae in my neck that has healed up, scary shit & definitely something that makes you take a step back & rethink many things!
@@pirate_duck4985 yeah I usually leave brakes and pegs on, but if I decide to go after the lightest bike record with the build I gotta weight it with brakes including a gyro and a coaster plus fat seat as well as with a cassette brakeless and a slim seat just for the scale shots basically. Thanks dude. Yeah neck and spine shit is scary and sucks. I feel you on the nerve damage though. Also got nerve damage in my shoulder, tore all the ligaments tendons and muscles awhile back too. Didn't heal properly.
I’m running some of those cult fast and loose slick tires and they way 1/3 of the kink tires I was running before. they are super thin but made of a harder rubber and honestly I’ve had fewer flats with them.
I just made my daily bike front and rear breaks, gyro, 4 pegs, 4 hub guards, and guarded sprocket, but I love the parts I used so I really do wonder how much it weighs
Nice Brant! 26 lb on my bike, with ZERO Ti on it. Sunday Sound Wave V3 frame, Sunday 9.25 bars chrome, Sunday Dark Wave fork chrome, Alienation stem, Odyssey GTX gyro with M2 lever and cables, Odyssey Thunderbolt + cranks chrome & BB, Shadow PC pedals, Shadow heavy chain, Odyssey 25T Laguardia sprocket, Odyssey Evo 2.5 rear brake, Cult laid back seat post, Animal seat, Wheel set: Rear: Alienation Runaway rims SS spokes Alienation FC, Front: Alienation Runaway rim SS spokes G-sport Roloway female hub, Demolition Momentum tires 2.35 with Tublito tubes, 4 Primo ultralight pegs chromo. 26 lb. Brant when you gonna come out to Richmond??
Gotta say...I do silently cuss out bikes that I work on when axle nuts are super tight...🤣🤣🤣
Get some ti headset spacers! Or carbon and cut that baseball bat seatpost your rocking
Ti would be heavier then the aluminium ones he has. Plastic or carbon.
You have way too much seat post, cutting that would takeoff a bunch of Wait
Mmakke the hub gaurd into a baby lamp. Memorabilia bro.

find out what pro Tennis players use, then use that. also, maybe removing the tennis ball might impact the weight? lol
Maybe Brant could trial a titanium tennis ball in his front spokes. Ya know, for science.
That is an awesomely tool.i
nice
Take the tennis ball out of the front wheel
You need a cheater bar
