      Thank you ladies for your Joint Forces reaction. We live 60 klms from RAAF Base Amberley, home of the C-17A Globemaster III, F/A 18F Super Hornets, KC-30A Multi Role Tankers and soon to be home of the F-35A Lightning and the EA-18G Growlers. It's been 5 years since we were in Las Vegas for the 16/17 New Year celebrations.....standing out front of The Bellagio Casino lake at 11.50 pm with the fountain going off like gun shots in tune to the National Anthem of the USA....Bit of a WOW moment...Best wishes from Australia.

      I watch a heck of a lot of ADVChina (find it really interesting), with China they tend to hugely overstate their capabilities it's almost laughable apparently.
      It would be a hugely difficult thing since they're so big, but nah in the end they'd stand no chance at all it's really just a load of chest beating and not much more than that on China's part.
      Mostly if there's some major project not even to do with things concerning the military, there's tons of corruption where the group to carry something out or the heads of it will just pocket the money and the funder's get nothing in return.
      Hope you're both super well, take care

      Fun facts Australia and America have fought side by side since 4th July 1918. American troops were getting training by Australian soldiers. Australian general sir John Monash planned a new style of warfare using tanks artillery infantry and war planes to attack the German trenches at Hamel. This type of warfare would in ww2 be called blitzkrieg. Originally there was to be 10 companies of us troops placed under Australian command, but black jack pershing removed all but 4 companies as thecus government did not want us forces under non us command. This battle led to an all out collapse of German forces over the next 4 months.

I loved my time in the RAAF and sometimes wish I could return to that life. Exercises like this are so important to all involved, one of the reasons the British harriers were so dominant in the Falklands conflict despite the Argentines having more aircraft was that the British pilots were so well trained and drilled, they had pitted their aircraft against multiple other types in exercises like this and had learnt where they had the advantage and where they didn’t.

    • @SirHilaryManfat
      @SirHilaryManfat Год назад

      To be fair to the Argentine pilots, their planes were massively outdated (I seem to remember they were relics from the 1950's/60's). Also the Harrier's VTOL system enabled the R.A.F. pilots to essentially outmaneuver the Argentine planes easily. But yes, the R.A.F. pilots were and still are extremely well trained and drilled.

    • @Jabber-ig3iw
      @Jabber-ig3iw Год назад +3

      @@SirHilaryManfat not that out dated, the USMC were still using the Skyhawks the Argentines used until the mid 80s( when they were replaced by harriers) and the French built Mirage III and super Etendard were far from out dated.

      @Animalhouse - I was about to make same point the modernity of the Argentine planes and weapon systems, which were far from old. Also they were operating from home bases with support crews etc rather miles from home and having to make do and mend. It was also British VTOL ingenuity when no-one else in the world had developed it. So any advantage in this was completely home made.

    I served with the Royal Navy in the Falklands War in 1982. I can assure that I DID fear the enemy. War is petrifying for everyone. Dealing with that fear and still operating to a high level of effectiveness is the key. I respect my enemy too. Like us, they are just serving the requirements of our masters who choose who to go to war with and why. 'Ours is not to reason why' is the mantra. Self explanatory.
    I hate war. No glory as far as I am concerned. Far too many wars and far too many people in power creating them for the innocent combatants and civilians to pay the price for.

First jet fighter I ever saw fly and land was back in '69 when the family coming back back from a day's trip at the Seaside at Brancaster. A day by the North Sea, sounds of the wind, the sea, and overhead USAF F-100D & F Super Sabres. Trip home passing Thetford Forest perfect timing to watch an F100D land at the US base RAF Lakenheath. Passing and a sea of F100's parked everywhere. A day I will never forget. People including myself visiting the USAF base RAF Mildenhall every year. As long as we have the best equipment, the best allies and friends and the best tactics we can be prepared in case things get bad in the world. :)

    Hi ladies! I love anything to do do with "Red Flag"! I'm a (very) old ex RAF Vet and when I was stationed in West Germany we were often visited by the Aggressor Sqdn pilots. They took it so seriously some even had copies of "Pravda" tucked in their flight suits!!! We had a unit on base called VASF (Visiting Aircraft Servicing Flight) and during exercises they would be responsible for looking after any visiting combat squadrons. The US F-4 crews and the VASF teams used to love working together! Their "scramble" times were legendary, not gonna tell you them here as no-one would believe me... but they ALWAYS played for real and took shortcuts that in peacetime were a huge no-no. VASF were always buzzin after exercises (a really good friend of mine was on the team and used to tell me stuff but my lips are sealed!). Absolutely great video and reaction... I love the diversity of what you cover! Take care...

    I enjoyed the red flag 23 content, I was watching some older red flag footage a few days back. The aircraft in question was the Blackburn Buccaneer, they had to fly at 20 feet instead of 10 feet as they left dust trails in the desert. Wow. I made a model when I was a kid, I am in my sixties now. Keep up the great work ladies.

    • @1chish

      The 'dust trails' were the public excuse. The real reason they had to fly higher was the Buccs were so low the US radar systems couldn't see them until it was too late.

    I read that during the gulf war an RAF refuelling tanker plane which was patrolling outside the combat zone broke with procedure to enter the combat zone to re-fuel a USAF fighter which didn't have enough fuel to make it back to the rendezvous point. That's teamwork 👍

    • @abarratt8869

      Also during Gulf War 1 (the 1990's one), the RAF still had Victor tankers. Now, the victor has always looked, well, strange, and for many USAF pilots their first time seeing one was when they joined up to sup fuel from Victor.
      Apparently, that started some chat about the amazing stealth tanker that the Brits had, why hadn't the USAF got one? Nope - 1950s aircraft!

This is something Good that came from the old British empire, imo, I say that because without the old empire none of these counties would exist as they do, we wouldn't even share the same language as we do, so it's Good to see that something came from to be honest not the best of situations? And how now it's evolved into something very cool and special, also there are quite a few other counties I could add to these First 5 Japan for one, also many ,many more, cool to see, awesome,

    The tallest monument in Canberra - Australia's capital city - is the Australian American Memorial. It is a 79 metre (259 feet) tall column with an eagle at the top. Officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in February 1954, it is an important symbol of Australian gratitude to American service personnel for their contribution to the defence of Australia during World War II (1939-1945). It also signifies the close ties established between Australia and America during the war.

    When you say any of those soldiers would take a bullet for the next, that may be true. But what they are really doing is taking a bullet for You & Me. And its also worth considering, it's not a rushed decision in the heat of battle, it's a calculated decision on the day they sign up.
    This is why we should respect our services, (even if you dont agree with your governments decisions), because each and every soldier, sailor and airman, has volunteerd to die for us when the bullets start to fly.T'hank-you for your service isn't' quite the point, it should be 'thank-you for your life'.

    Red Flag has been the aspiration of RAF aircrews for decades now. There are armament practise camps as we called them, and Canadian deployments doing much the same.
    Back in the days of the Bristol Buccaneer aircraft, we were able to perform at low level and penetrate air defences effectively, and both sides learned something, which was the point. There are vids on youtube about it.
    Then one Bucc lost a wing, two men died, the others were tested and it was found that some of the older planes were reaching the end of their fatigue life and cracks were developing, sometimes due to manufacturing defects.
    The enormous effort that followed, to check all the airframes, replace, repair and swap parts to keep the Buccs flying shows just how important that plane was at that time.
    In the early 1990s, they flew in the Gulf War and did sterling service, which used up the remaining 'life' and they were retired a few years later. The last purely British military plane in service.

My "then" American wife's mum was secretary to one of the top brass at the base and he gave us a private tour of the parts that the public tour doesn't show.
