A 10 year difference between someone 40 and 50 doesn't produce much of a difference. You can't use a comparison like that in this case. There is a far larger difference between someone 14 and 24 than there is someone 25 and 50. Also, you can still have plenty of things in common despite age differences. You're caught up on the differences that you're neglecting the plethora of basic things you can have in common with someone.

I think it honestly depends on how old the person is and their maturity level. I am 22 turning 23 soon and I have a hard time finding friends who are in my age range, let alone get along with it, connecting with them because I don’t enjoy doing what most young people like doing. Let’s not forget that theirs many age gap couples across generations/the world. (your parents might also have an age gap and you don’t know). My parents are almost 12 years apart but they never met each other until much much later in life. A 10 year difference between someone 40 and 50 doesn't produce much of a difference. You can't use a comparison like that in this case. There is a far larger difference between someone 14 and 24 than there is someone 25 and 50.
Also, you can still have plenty of things in common despite age differences. You're caught up on the differences that you're neglecting the plethora of basic things you can have in common with someone.
