@@MaxMilesPointsagree just discovered you and sooo much more enjoyable to watch than other vids and so much more calmer than Sebby and his hand movements.
I can set up a Qatar account without a Qatar card? I have lots and lots of avios in the BA account. I am located in the west coast of Canada, would be nice to take advantage of this. Searching for flights in the USA using BA site is painful.
Great video again. I also found Qatar Avios is also good for redemption of short distance business class for Cathay Pacific. HKG-NRT business is only 22k Avios and around $10 USD for fee. 11k for economy. A bit hard to find but if you plan ahead, it is not that bad
That's why it felt weird for a one way business class ticket from Hong Kong to Tokyo NRT, it was 31200 avios on British airways website and 22000 avios on Qatar Airways website flying with Cathay Pacific. On another note, the devaluation is not only annoying but also the extra fees on British airways are somehow outrageous. People really need to compare both before any reservations
Great video as always! Looking to get my family from JFK to FCO (Rome, Italy) on July 1, 2025. It was 57.5K AA miles + $750 per person. BA Avios was 100,000 points + $400 per person. Price was more expensive $ through Qatar and same amount of Avios.
New Hack: Avois > British Airways > Finnair. Really good redemption rates on North America to Finnair. Ex. DFW - HEL in Business for 10hrs is 87k on peak, 67k in Premium and 24k in Economy. Much Prefer Finnair over BA or AA both in service, amenities and hard product!
Thanks for explaining. I always wondered why i can neever find AA domestic out of PHL on Quatar airways. I habe quite a few miles stuck in Avios from a bonus transfer when I cancelled my Citi card awhile back. Considering the added cost to get to another airport, Im afraid I may have to pay BA.
Today Amex is having a 30 percent transfer bonus to British airways! People been snagging all the business and premium economy seats to and from Japan 😢
It seems Qatar has caught up with BA. Went to book flights I had looked at two weeks ago, all segments are now elevated. What was 9k is now 13k, what was 13k is now 16k. Say it ain't so!!!!
Thanks for the video. It was fantastic help. Ive tried booking serval flights using Qatar Avios yet Im having trouble any flights from Hawaii. Are you having the same issues?
This is great. Though is it also the same case for other airlines in the avios family/program? i.e. is it cheaper to book qatar airways/JAL via qatar than british avios?
Any tips for US to Latin America? I'm often finding it's hard to get good redemption rates to places like Brazil but the discounts using points to Asia are usually massive
You did not address change fees and cancellation policies. When you book a mileage ticket with AA, you can cancel at any time and get all of your money back.
How do I transfer American Airlines miles to a partner like British Airways? I want to combine my Chase points and AA miles to fly from the US to Europe. Thank you.
Qatar also raised from 9k points to 13k points for the route I travel. Do you know any other option now. Only Alaska is best to book American so far, but I don’t have any card that can trans fee to Alaska .
i went from SFO-SEZ through DBX, was that a good redemption at 35K+$300 for econ? the alternative is like through Qatar but its 50K+$200.. neither seemed that good
Does British only transfer to qatar and qatar to British avios points? Or can British transfer to a different avios partner or interchange with each other? Say qatar to Iberia, Iberia to British etc
Not sure what I’m doing wrong. All the dates I’m selecting months out showing no availability. Award flights shown on British airway website but not not Qatar website
When you book an award AA flight thru Qatar and select economy - does it come with seat selection and carry on? Or is it basic economy and seat assigning will be done in the day of the flight? Thank you.
I've never used the app, but when you look through the website the terms/conditions are explicit in the drop down of flight details. It'll explain what's allowed and what isn't. It's very simple to use.
Goodness gracious. No matter what combination of destinations/dates I select, Qatar will not find availability for me. Even flights that are showing up as available on British Airways and Seats dot aero. PHX to LAX, ORD to DAL, DAL to PHX; absolutely nothing shows up as available on Qatar.
Because 1. There’s probably not availability 2. Qatar Airways cant see the award space 3. I used domestic flights in the video as an example and recommend the strategy for domestic flights not international flights
@@kaamitmalhotraaward availability on AA doesn’t mean it’s saver award availability. Saver award availability is the award space that is shared between partner airlines

@@stephent5555Qatar airways unlikely to be able to piece the itinerary together. You’ll have better luck booking via British Airways (but more expensive)
I tried your method and it didn't work. The flight listed on the AA site didn't even who up on either BA or Qatar sites. These videos by the TY content creators make it look so easy, but it's far from easy. They rarely work for me. It gives me false hope and I'm really disappointed when I try myself. I've tried many many times. Maybe it's user error, but I'm exhausted. I know creators are trying to help, but I'd really love to see a video of them showing how hard it can be and troubleshooting instead of these videos where it looks so falsely easy.
I agree with this. Before this video I was trying to search British Airways for American flights, and getting nowhere. I even called in, and while waiting for an agent it dropped me. British Airways page either finds nothing, or never succeeds in executing the request. Based on this video, I just tried Qatar and it says I'm not allowed to search for award travel within 30 days. Very frustrated.
I tried connecting my BA and Qatar accounts, but after I logged in to both accounts, it said my personal information (name, address, phone, birthdate, email) doesn’t match up between the two accounts, therefore they can’t be connected. I’ve gone over everything multiple times in both accounts and can’t for the life of me figure out what the discrepancy is. Has anyone else run into this problem?
If you book this way, are you still able to use the American Airlines app for your flight and do you get the perks that come with American Airlines status that you have? Do you earn American Airlines miles for this, or Qatar Avios?
Wondering how your redemption went south on Qatar… wondering what happened and what was the itinerary like. Thnx Max for always putting out great content.
A couple of review notes I have on your points made in the video: 1) While Qatar is requiring fewer Avios than BA on the AA economy saver/business saver redemptions, it’s still much higher than what the AA redemption would have been. However, since AA doesn’t transfer directly from any Transferable Points programs, thus harder to replenish your balance, I understand why we still would rather go the Avios route. 2) You stated that often Qatar won’t allow reward searches if you don’t have points there already. You don’t have to transfer in increments of 1000, you can literally get away with transferring 1 avois from BA to Qatar to begin your search.
Thanks for the notes. 1. Correct reason why we are redeeming via Avios is AA miles are not transferable from any credit card points. AA miles are much harder to earn. 2. Correct, but if you don’t have any BA Avios or QR Avios then you’d need to transfer from a credit card in 1,000 point increments. (With an exception of a few credit card points that allow a lower minimum points transfer amount)
@@cjjunkee8602 booking JAL via BA is still pretty decent. Qatar Airways via BA is about the same rate as what Qatar charges. BA also has the advantage of having the occasional transfer bonus too
