● In today's video I'll take you onboard a badass Lotus Exige S for a few laps around Franciacorta circuit. This Exige is fitted with a Honda VTEC K20A engine swap with supercharger and a Quaife 6-Speed sequential gearbox! Just listen to that vtec engine screaming at over 9000+rpms!

Funny how people always say Honda’s sound shit, but when their engines are swapped into something else, suddenly they sound awesome...
They're probably talking about the B Series motors, in which case they're still wrong.
They have probably never seen a VTEC actually race

Most Hondas DO sound like shit, because their owners keep fucking up the exhaust to make it sound like a wet fart. The cars are fine, it's the children that destroy them that are the problem.

Yea the drivers in those porsches were very bad, but it was not just skill, a supercharged k20 lotus (which would weigh around 1700-2200lbs on good tires is in a whole other league than the porsche landbarge.
Keep in mind that the lotus was designed ground up to be a british sports car (race chassis design, aerospace stuff, not designed for luxury or comfort). The porsches are designed from the ground up for dentists and lawyers to be comfortable, the gt2 and gt3s have moderately modified control arms (still mostly rubber) and slightly better dampers.

LeCoureurDesBois - Toyota engines are all well and good, but aside from the 3S-GTE, 1JZ, 2JZ and 4A-GE (all of which were heavily influenced by Yamaha), Toyota engines aren’t as well-renown for high performance as Honda engines are.
That supercharger whine just complements the throaty high revving k20 and then the straight cut gear whine is icing on the cake, perfect exhaust setup👌

Deandalapanda yes the k20 is notoriously throaty, that’s why when you see those Honda’s with shitty exhaust setups they sound like... well you know shit. But with the right seteup it can sound balanced and aggressive like this lotus.

the car runs great and handles thru the corners just like i want. next step will be bigger since we have some traction problems coming out from the corners.

@@TheIceman83 this car is a blast... congratulations. I wouldn't change it even for a (modern) Ferrari or another similar supercar which have grown too big and massive. Can i ask the weight, also why supercharged? I opted to turbocharge the 1ZZ of my MR2 Spyder and the engine is a monster.
@@TheIceman83 i bet that you plan further upgrades because 316 bhp is an amount that stock K20 internals can handle easily.
It’s still kinda crazy that Honda’s K-Series engine’s are still the motors of choice when swapping into most smaller displacement front engine-front wheel drives and mid engine-rear wheel drive sports cars.
The extensive aftermarket parts and tuning availability, and the near infinite supply of blocks and heads, plus an all aluminium block makes the Honda K series a near perfect swap candidate for almost any car

@frank white a 6bt cummins makes 1000hp 100% reliably in race application with just boost and fuel
@frank white I was first to run the Blackwatch supercharger kit on my car. Terrible tunes and being a guinea pig for tunes came with that commitment, As did 2 separate superchargers and eventually a 350HP kit from BOE fabrication. These are glass motors compared to Honda. Anyone with half a brain knows that especially anyone who has run big power through one. Also a baffled oil pan does not guarantee you won't have oil starvation but thanks for playing.

Outstanding! What an incredibly well designed marriage of two of the finest things on the road, a light Lotus chassis and a supercharged K20. It's like the Reeses Peanut Butter Cup of track cars. In this application, I'm glad to see the didn't go turbo. Although they'll make more boost, the bigger the turbo the greater the lag. Supercharger delivers power so much more linear and controllable. Don't get me wrong, I have a turbo 4 cylinder track car and LOVE it, but for a tight track, it can be a handful trying to keep it in boost without breaking traction.

This makes a lot of sense. I would imagine a K swap kit for a MR2 is probably pretty much a bolt on for this car, making it a bit more simple to get done. A real track weapon.

@Sergio Aguirre Crazy how you're actually quoting half the price of what they really are, very good job at spreading misinformation. Quaife sequentials start at around 13k pounds, and after all the import fees etc. you're looking at an easy ~17k, nearly 20 with extra goodies.

What's happened is he's taken a performance car and made a true race car.
Lotus should be sourcing engines from Honda, here's the evidence.
@frank white they're never going to be as capable as the Honda engines. Especially with all the aftermarket support.
When the car was launched, where was the 190+hp 9krpm 1.8l Honda engine to compete with the 2zz? Oh yeah, didn't exist. The exige could have up to ~280hp from factory with supercharged 2zz.

It was called the B18C, and it made 197hp in the Integra Type-R.
Supercharged, by KraftWerks, it makes over 300...to the tires.
@@MrGunzngirlz I'm very familiar with the B18. However, the US ITR was a bit neutered, and the engine was discontinued before Lotus went with 2ZZ. Also, the 2ZZ is a much more modern and emission-friendly engine. The supercharged comment is invalid, never came from factory with warranty that way, like the Exige did.
@@MrGunzngirlz I've seen a low 12 second pass (12.10) with a n/a 2zz Celica you would be surprised at how capable the engine is it's just not to popular of a platform in the us

I had an 08 Civic Si K20 with a CTI roots blower, it only made about 360 hp but was a blast to drive for a front drive car and a daily driver. That engine while up on the pipe was intoxicating and especially after lowering the Vtec down to 4500 rpm instead of the stock 5800 rpm. I always wished it was rear drive
