I love that Vader didn't even see the need to use his own lightsaber against Reva.
Yeah it highlighted the disparity between them. God I love how they made Vader look soo bad-ass in this episode.

This episode made me so happy for Hayden Christiansen. Getting to see him as Anakin again was such a treat. And we got to see him and Obi-Wan spar. So impressed they still got it!

I think it's really just the sheer disrespect they have for Reva. They don't even see her as a player she was a tool and nothing more. In their arrogance they don't care if she lives or dies that's how little they regard her.
It’s the repeat trauma. Just cutting through the younglings to get what he wants. Calling her a youngling again, she’s still nothing to him. Cutting through her all over again to get what he wants.
Oh the fact that he just left her there Knowing she would probably survive to live with her failure, he thinks so little of her that hes not even worries about her in the future.

Vader was snapping necks and killing failing inquisitors for a reason, to make a point to Kenobi and the remaining inquisitors. Leaving Reva in the gutter is almost an insult, like how he was toying with her when she was attacking him. She’s not a threat to him and is likely to die anyway.
Isn’t that where Obi Wan was in the bacta tank?

Didn't Anakin, in the same episode, say: "Mercy doesn't defeat an enemy"? I know he didn't leave her alive to be merciful, but being that he was left for dead himself and came back, seems he didn't learn a single thing.

When Reva picked up the comm device, she heard 'do they know about the children', 'tattooine', and 'Owen'. She met Owen and already picked up he was hiding something and now she knows he was. She just connected the dots. So the ending is now showing Luke as he is now very much in danger. I think she will somehow patch herself up and head over there and try and kill Luke to get at Vader. Being that Vader doesn't find out about Luke until years later, I think Obi Wan will intercept and kill Reva to save Luke and Owen.
That sounds good, but I doubt they'll allow him to do anything as badass as winning a lightsaber fight.
You said kill Luke to get at Vader… there’s no chance of that because like you said Vader knows nothing about Luke so how would get to Vader?
She met Owen, but I don't think he gave his name at any point.

She met Owen earlier in the series, she knows exactly who he is and felt he was hiding a Jedi when she saw him.
Those stormtroopers are like "You two do whatever, he's a scary dude."
Cept that in both versions of canon the regular stormtroopers loved him. Vader was their ideal commander who went into battle with them so not the people you want standing around when you talk coups.

I LOVE how the fact that Vader disrespected Reva by not: A. Not using his lightsaber. B. Not killing her. C. Playing her like a worthy Sith Lord. D. Showing WHY he is only one of Two Sith Lords in the Galaxy. 5/5 Padawan Braids. 😂😂
B. Is just a failure to understand the history of Vader. Nobody learns his identity and lives. Nobody. He has brutally destroyed everyone that knows with Obi-Wan as the lone exception and that's not for a lack of trying.

My crazy theory - Vader didn't kill her outright in part because some part of him WANTS her to survive, because that would then prove she's a worthy acolyte and he sees that potential in her. I feel like a lot of Dark side mentoring basically involves a lot of mind games, murder attempts and negging and leaving people for dead and kind of 'hoping' they manage to survive and try to kill you, eventually, because that's how you know you've succeeded as a Sith teacher.

Vader didn’t kill her because Disney wants her to be the the main character. This show has sadly failed on such a simple story. All they had to do was show Obi-Wan being hunted by inquisitors and maybe him starting an Underground Railroad for Jedi. Maybe they push could have had Tala help him smuggle Jedi. Along the way maybe he discovers the grey side of the force and possibly realizes that the Jedi were wrong in some of their teachings. Mace Windu shows up in their hour of need along with Grogu to keep the boy safe but Grogu ends up being hurt and has amnesia from a blast and ends up in the wrong hands. I literally thought this story line up in seconds and it would have been far better than this crap we are watching. This show is giving us terrible character that I want to like but hate and even worse bad guys that annoy me rather than make me fear them. Watch The Boys and you’ll see amazing character development and truly scary bad guys that are complex. This is just a weak story and terrible characters. Boba Fett and Mando are far better than this and it saddens me.
@@justinrakestraw4142 Even though I actually like Reva I understand why others would dislike her. It is obvious her introduction has Kathleen Kennedy's fingerprints all over it, As you probably know from her point of view the force is female. It saddens me that this series is not what it could have been due to cramming in politics but I am still glad with what we got. If she gets her own series like Disney wants to maybe we can actually get a season 2 and have the story focus mostly on Obi-Wan and Vader like it should have been from the beginning.
Yeah that’s Pre-AOTC Anakin. You can tell by his lightsaber. It’s the one that gets broken in the droid factory on Geonosis before he looses his hand.

I do have my issues with the show, but I must say I absolutely loved the scene where the Grand Inquisitor just walks in while Reva is on the ground. Just the idea that he was in on the plan the whole time and was hiding just so he could come out and mentally destroy her is just so good for me. She got played SO hard by Vader and Grandy
But why isn't she fucking dead? Her knowledge of Vaders former identity is a death sentence.
I'm starting to become convinced that Ewan's "We hope you enjoy episodes 3, and 4, and 5, and 6... and 7, and 8, and 9, and 10" wasn't just him talking about a second season but was really telling us that there will be 4 more eps after this next one.
I really enjoyed this episode, and I definitely like Reva more now and totally get it.
Also, Jay, your opinion about the padawan braid saddens me.
I'm hoping so. What a great plot twist that would be: "Surprise, here's even more episodes. When does this show end... We don't aren't gonna tell you, tune in to find out."

Yeah after this episode I cant help to start belive the rumores about a season 2 . Obi-Wan characheter devoplment is no way near the the kenobi we see in a new hope . I was expecting to see some change in him by now .
The whole building up of Vader hunts Obi-Wan for 5 episode , and they just droped that ball? To change to -OH NO Luke is danger . Dont make any senes at all. If this was just a 6 episode tv serie .
I loved the episode . But whut?
I think she will be pissed because Obi-Wan kind of used her anger to escape. She will go there to kill Luke, Owen and family Harvey Dent (from The Dark Knight) style. And maybe in this case Obi-Wan will succeed in bringing her to the lightside. And that is how he becomes the more optimistic Obi-Wan that we see in A New Hope.

The camerawork in this episode was great. Despite not being able to see Vader's face, you could feel his emotions and how he was processing the situation around him just through the way it was filmed. Bravo.
My favorite camera work, besides the Reva/Vader flashbacks, was the unsteady, unnerving camera movements on Obi-wan's face at the end. Literally never stabilized, which really hits home how his mental state is doing at the time.
Lightsabers often have a lower powered “training mode.” Also at higher levels it wasn’t uncommon for force users to spar at full power, trusting their links in the Force to each other to keep both safe. At that point it becomes more meditation than combat.
You can tell, because Anakin's blade doesn't damage the floor.
the lengths that Bail is willing to go to Tatooine and help the Lars family to protect of Luke in case Leia and Kenobi didn't make it really shows you that he is a true friend through thick and thin
I think we can say as it seems to be a general rule for all star wars shows : they are NOT what we were expecting
It’s sweet that Leia inherited Anakin’s tech skills. Both twins did really. You see them both tinkering on things throughout the OT.
I just love how the flash back between anakin and vadar becomes personnel to him and the fans , the connection that they directed in this episode is top class

Insanely crazy episode. Flashbacks galore gave the answers to the questions that confirmed so much!
Vader showed why he is still a Padawan and why Kenobi is the master. A new hope still makes sense!

Anakin having no problem killing kids right out the gate was already established in Episode II when he told Padme he slaughtered the sand people, especially the women and children, like animals. That's why it always bugs me that Padme was oh-so-shocked he killed younglings.
Thats because she loves him... and the sand people pretty much killed his mother, so you can understand his anger about it.
But the younglings? they did literally nothing to Anakin nor his mother... so thats a bigger surprise.
And i dont think Padme nor anyone in particular thinks highly of the tusken, they are mostly seen as barbarians anyway... almost noone gets to survive an encounter with them.
Padme was the type who had a thing for bad boys. Otherwise she would've been outta there and maybe even reported him to Obi-Wan and the Jedi Council after that Episode II confession

There’s big difference: the Tusken people meant nothing to him and represented an evil to him. The younglings were Jedi apprentices like he once was. They were part of his team. He knew them. He taught them. It’s a different type of situation, it’s a betrayal.
7:30 Palpatine implied to Anakin that he has to do evil things in order to gain Darkside power. "Take no prisoners, show no mercy. Only then, will you be powerful enough to save Padme".
They did more with this series than I thought possible honestly.
Reva's saber could do that cuz she had the "Inquisitor" title technically from the promotion and that's one of their signature sabers component

Yes yes, I love seeing Darth Vader's memories, it really gels the prequels with the main series.
Probably obvious to many, but how this episode ends is supposed to leave you curious as to what's going to happen in the finale.
I think Reeva is pissed that Obi-Wan did that so she is going to go meet him when he comes back. And maybe Vader knows that

But it makes more sense for her to do that instead of swinging the sword with a war cry, her odds, as small as it was, would have been better.
I really don’t know what the angle was there. Was Obi Wan genuinely giving her advice or was he setting her up for failure? Because he must have know for sure that she had no chance.
I just commented about that stupid remark. Reva does do that mid combat and Vader still dodges it.
Vader would have just force blocked the blade from igniting or igniting to its full length.

@@lpycb42 It's because George decided to retcon her entire backstory in ROTJ, the one movie in the OT where they never interact. Before that, there was nothing really to develop - Vader wasn't supposed to be Leia's father.
The woman playing Tala was also voicing Lady Allura in Legend of Vox Machina, so it was nice to finally see her cast a fireball. :-)
I never thought I would feel any emotion from Reva, but the Order 66 thing had me teary eyed. This was intense in ten cities!!!
I never really thought that much about padawan braids until Jay went into why he hates them and now it's making me question things. Like did Yoda have one? Did padawans without hair like Plo Koon, Kit Fitso, Aayla, etc. not have one, or did the Order make one for you like Ahsoka's? What about Tarre Vizsla, since he's a Mandalorian that wears his helmet all the time, would he need one?

Reva's playing checkers while Vader plays chess. She's been a pawn this whole time. Humiliating her in front of the Grand Inquisitor will just fuel her desire for revenge. Vader left her alive so he can follow her until she finds Obi-Wan for him...again. Obi-Wan will want to bring her back to the light but I think he'll have to kill her to protect Luke.
He left Reva alive as a total sign of disrespect. She’s no threat.
That Vader fight had some classic kung fu movie vibes with the old Master just casually dodging and blocking everything the young hothead throws and then just tossing them on their ass with a simple palm. Loved it.
I liked Reva, now I like her even more (and Moses did a great job here). This is what I've been telling to friends about her. Wait till the series end before you get disappointed or annoyed. The same thing goes for the issue with Leia (she didn't know Obi-Wan in A New Hope). We might get to see Obi-wan altering her memories somehow.
Actually, Leia did know Obi-Wan before and during A New Hope. R2D2 message and transmission "help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope." Luke telling her in the DeathStar that he's come to save her with Ben Kenobi. Doh!!
@@fedr39 Yes but if you remember correctly, when she records her message for Obi-wan she says "you fought with my father in the Clone Wars etc". She is talking to someone she doesn't know in person. You would expect her to be more casual and more direct in her message towards someone that rescued her when she was a kid. This is why people complain about breaking canon but we still have to wait for the ending first.
@@evanskan6326 I believe the idea is that she is sending it as a formal message in case it’s intercepted. That way they won’t figure out the Organa family knew he was about and such. She was appealing to his sense of honour and duty to help against the empire.
@@chazo1367 To be honest, I don't mind if they never address this. Vivien Lyra Blair is amazing as Leia in the series and I love how she is playing a pivotal role in Obi-wan's development here. I can understand why people complain but it isn't a big deal. Not for me anyway.
You guys are great. Just wanna say Adam, you’re right I don’t think the “real” Anakin would kill younglings, but falling to the dark side is like being corrupted, or possessed. You do things you never could have before. He strangled padme, the one person he was trying to protect, there’s no pragmatism or logic there, he’s not in control. He nearly kills Ahsoka in rebels, and for a moment Anakin snaps out of it and considers everything, but I think his hatred and trauma cause him to turn back to Vader. It’s like an escape. Vader himself sees Anakin as a different person, and calls him weak. That’s how I’ve always seen it.

@@jjv124 it's not obvious in the films, but in the book adaptations of the prequels, Anakin was being manipulated by Sidious for a VERY long time. Sidious played the long game with him and very slowly poisoned his mind and played on his fears. By the time RotS happened, he was on the verge of paranoia about everything in his life, including fears that his wife was cheating on him with Obi Wan. It makes some of the lines he has in the movie make more sense when you look at it from that perspective. "Obi-Wan was here, wasn't he?" "I don't want to hear anymore about Obi-Wan." "You were with HIM!!"
@@JAPelicano1 the novels make clear that vader was always him, the dragon eating inside him, pushing him to save everyone in the galaxy, always pushing him to.win.
Regarding Anakin suddenly flipping to the Dark Side and being willing to kill kids on day one:
I've always assumed that the Sith have an ability similar to the Mind Trick but much more powerful and subtle. And Anakin spent YEARS regularly visiting Chancellor Palpatine without any other Jedi present so who knows how messed up he was by Force-based compulsions?
Let's not forget he had already killed kids in a dark side rage on Tatooine when his mother died. Not like it was the first time.

Reva putting the saber in wasn’t random, as magneto says, in chess the pawns go first. Doing it initially with no knowledge of what was on the other side isn’t tactical, however with just Kenobi there it accomplishes two things. 1st she might kill or injure Kenobi making her job easier, and 2nd she wouldn’t face any blaster fire as any stray rebel bolt might strike obiwan in the back. Love you guys ❤️
Aniken killing the kids was something he had to do to truly be under the councilors mentor ship. If he didn’t kill the kids he would’ve failed
Looking at what this setup - the transporter has no hyperspace and is being followed, so we have to deal with that first thing next episode. Let's assume they miraculously fix it, or obiwan has his Vader reunion to save them, or both at the same time - he drops off Leia, he goes back to tatooine, reva is waiting for him and they face off with her heartfelt goodbye. End things with Seeing/hearing obi connect with qui-gon.

As a Sith, Vader admires the hate and rage in her. She's also been the only one to catch up to Obi Wan each time. He's probably just grooming her, as he knew who she was the whole time. "You're hate has made you stronger"

Leaving Reva alive was the ultimate disrespect by Vader. He sees her as such a non-threat that even the minimal effort to finish her isn't worth it.

The final episode, Leia is returned home, Obi goes back to Tatooine and in the ultimate twist, Reva survives and contacts a mysterious person, gives the information she has gotten to them. We cut to Obi in the desert and Darth Maul shows up.
You know, force pulling fleeing ships would have come in handy as the Falcon left Echo base don't ya think.

If you remember from Revenge of the Sith; Palpatine tells Anakin to slaughter everyone in the jedi temple and to do it without hesitation or mercy, or else he wouldn't be strong enough in the darkside to save Padme. So, yeah it makes sense Anakin would do it, horrible as it is because Anakin's love for Padme is an obsession and he can't let go of his attachment.
Adam, I disagree. I 100% think Vader intentionally left her alive. He is a Sith master that just watched a massive power play and ambition from this person. She failed, and she was punished severely, but lets be honest, he respected her fight, her creativity, and her relentless pursuit of vengeance.
This is the Sith my dude, they respect power and passion. They EXPECT their padawan's to try to surplant them, that's how you get promoted. All those people he was killing were nobodies in his eyes. Those Jedi younglings were soft, but he hesitated with her and made it a non-critical strike. Sith version of recruitment. You survive, we'll make you stronger. You don't, you weren't worthy.
Could Vader have left Reva alive (knowingly) to track her because he knew she will continue to seek out Obi-Wan and right now he has no idea where to look?

Random ending proposition: The last episode is the refugees hunted by the Empire, they escape and Obi reunites Leia with Bail, maybe some meaningful last minute force conversation with Anakin or Quigone. Best part of the episode: Vader's total disrespect of Reva with how he handled the first half of the fight without even bothering to get his lightsaber off, then he takes her double sided one, breaks it in half and throws one to her as if to say "Is this the best you can do?" The show has been great so far and it was always kid of obvious the real Grand Inquisitor was not dead meaning that Reva will also be alive. Which also means Vader left her alive for a reason.....
I would imagine Reva places some importance on "the kids" to the Organas (and thus Obi-Wan) but I can't see how she would link the kids with Vader. Vader doesn't know even about the kids. She probably just thinks the kid Owen is watching is yet another royal kid of the Organas like Leia.
No, she knows Owen is hiding a Jedi, for sure. Not Obi Wan. She’s going to assume the kid is a Jedi.

The hard thing to swallow about this storyline is how after all of this, Obi-Wan/Ben will still be able to escape Vader and keep Luke a secret for many many many years until he grows old....hiding on the same planet Tatooine the whole time??? BTW I would love Mace Windu to show up :-) If Anakin can survive Lava, Mace can survive a fall lol
