That little girl who plays Leia is SO frickin' perfect in the role. She's got the sass, she's got the sense of adventure, and she's got the sense of authority (even at only ten years old). Bravo to her, she legit stole this pilot for me. I can 100% see a young Leia in her.

I think Obi-wan is having trouble communing with Qui-gon because he's suppressed his use of the force for so long out of fear of exposing himself and by extension Luke and this mission for Leia may be what opens him back up to be able too.

I’m so glad they’re giving us more of Leia’s backstory/childhood- such an unexpected, but welcome, surprise!

Ewan’s performance is sooooo good. You can just see in his eyes the brokenness, doubt, and guilt. You can literally see all the pain and all the fatigue of the past ten years in there. Gah it honestly breaks my heart.
I know! He’s broken man wallowing in his failures in the desert and reliving his truma every night. Why aren’t there therapists in Star Wars? Or antidepressants? He needs both badly.
@@madelinegarber7860 There are. Other Jedi are Therapists in all but name. Using the Force only works if you're head is on straight. He can't talk to anyone about this stuff. But there are therapy droids just like there are medical droids.
BTW Anakin refused to get help or listen to anyone who didn't tell him exactly what he wanted to hear.

There's no question in my mind that Third Sister is one of the padawans from the opening, and she feels Kenobi betrayed them by not being there, or she blames him for Anakin turning, which led to Order 66, etc, etc. She likely led a traumatic childhood bc she wasn't saved from the Temple...but a certain green child was. I think her suffering alone as a hunted child led her to resent both the Jedi and Obi-Wan.
Isn't she the inquistor from the game fallen order? If so you get why she is how she is.

I don't game so wouldn't have the slightest clue--and I haven't watched any animated series, so I go into the D+ shows a movie purist. I'm like the kid in remedial arithmetic and the rest of y'all are working with quantum physics.
Oh God, if this is right then she could be the one who ends up smuggling Grogu to safety - tying all three live-action Disney Plus shows into each other more tightly than expected. That would be brilliant.

You talk about all three of the Inquisitors being pure evil, but I like the fact that the other two keep giving Third the side-eye for being a bloodthirsty maniac, in spite of them both being more superficially monsterous-looking.
I don't think that it's (mainly) because they condemn her for being a 'bloodthirsty maniac'. I think it's because of her ambition, which makes her reckless and, importantly, a threat to them.
I always love the Inquisitors because they are all menacing and scary. And then you take a step back with your audience's knowledge and it becomes funny, this whole group of people think they are powerful chosen when in fact, Sidious and Vader just made a bunch of Diet-Sith, strong enough to hunt half-trained padawans, but too weak to ever actually be a threat to one of the real Sith Lords.
I just always picture Sheeve on the phone like in that Robot Chicken talking about the Inquisitors.
"They think I taught them about the Dark Side!" then he and Vader giggle and snicker.
The inquisitors aren’t Sith right? I haven’t seen any of the animated content.
@@ateam404 no, they’re not sith. They’re mostly Jedi that were tortured into turning to the dark side and they work directly for Vader. They’re purposefully trained to not pose a threat to the sith

I still haven't seen the second episode, but what got me in the feels, is that I kept thinking this is why Leia named her son Ben. After the man who saved her.

I didn’t even think about how this is why Leia knows got to contact Obi-Wan when she needs help. Also I was just thinking how he tells Leia his name is Ben and she later names her son Ben after him.

That recap of the prequels then the opening scene on the temple was fantastic. The Emperor echoing “execute Order 66” gave me chills. I legit did not expect to see Leia in this show but I tell you what that little girl is knocking it out of the park! Overall I loved the first 2 episodes. Now that everything is in place I’m hoping it will pick up a little bit.
Also, when they first showed Alderran I was like “wtf, is this Reach? I didn’t turn on Halo!” 😂😂😂😂😂

Fun fact: Fifth Brother (the one with the hat) is played by Sung Kang who in the Fast & Furious franchise plays a character named Han Seoul-Oh
I love when Obi-Wan is going to get his lightsaber.
It's like: "OK, I'm on a twin-sunned, desert planet in the Outer Rim of the main Star Wars galaxy, but first, I need to whip out my U.S. Army surplus collapsible Trenching Shovel."
It's an efficient design for a collapsible shovel. Also look at the history of Star Wars weapons and equipment related to WWI and WWII, this has been happening since the mid 1970s.

@@Retailman100 There being a Chevy Tahoe in Halo isn't that far fetched, considering the Ford Sandcat was already a vehicle in canon. And "classic" civilian vehicles like a first generation Pontiac GTO still existed by 2552. So it's whatever, really. It also just works as set dressing as a generic "shitty old improvised vehicle" that fits the Innie aesthetic.

I was expecting sad Obi-Wan in the desert and the show hasn't disappointed. He really has been just wallowing in his failures and losses for ten freaking years. Expected it and its still heartbreaking to see (Ewan does such a good job).
Same for the actress doing Leia, she is exactly as I'd imagine a young Leia to be. She 100% would've been a handful 😆
I mean, it has been a pretty traumatic time for him. He lost most of his fellow Jedis, his best friend and student, and now he has the job of protecting his best friend's son from afar.
I can't believe that I never considered there would be a young Leia in this show...that little girl stole the show.
I think this might be the 2 best episodes of any Disney+ series so far (including Marvel).
Ewan Mcgregor is so damn good.
The second they showed us Leia I started crying. I wasn't prepared and was completely overwhelmed in the best way possible.

Whoever did the super cut of the prequels as a recap did a great job. I have a different understanding from Obi’s point of view.
The thing that this reminded me of most was "Doctor Sleep". Obi-wan is very much like Danny, staying low, hiding his shine.
I'm glad that Bail's the one who's closer to Leia because it's Padme's daughter. It's just as important to him as Luke is to Obi-Wan as Anakin's son.
funny, when Luke became a grizzled old grumpy codger hiding himself away, shutting himself off from the Force, (seemingly) everybody whined and complained "that's not the Luke I remember!" lol "That's not MY Luke!"
Even though he felt equally responsible for the state of the Galaxy, because of Kylo Ren, as Obi-Wan does about Anakin.
It's effectively the same story, it "rhymes," except instead of tossing the lightsaber over his shoulder he buried it in the desert.
And, Obi-Wan had some semblance of hope, to hang on to, while Luke didn't, until Rey showed up.
Obi-Wan was idealistic, witty, and positive as a young Jedi, in his prime, arguably the model or "quintessential" Jedi.
Before Anakin's turn and Order 66.
Just like Luke, except he had won, at the end of his trilogy. The Empire had begun falling with the Death of the Emperor and Darth Vader, but Obi-Wan had lost at the end of his.
Lost everything.
I guess I'm just wondering why it was so unacceptable for some people to see Luke like that, but with Obi-Wan it's automatically 100% understandable lol The Last Jedi isn't perfect, don't get me wrong, I have almost all the same "issues" with it as pretty much everybody else.
Just not that one.
Luke being depicted as he was, in the Last Jedi, makes as much sense, (if not more,] as Obi-Wan's portrayal here, in my opinion.

Did you notice Obi Wan changed his voice when talking to Owen in town to sound more like Alec Guinness but speaks normally in other contexts? That may just have been me but I thought that was the case.
I loved the order 66 flashback/new scene for us.. this show is about kenobi’s PTSD from his failures, and there is no better way to put us in that mind set then to show us one of the darkest moments in Star Wars… it was perfect.
what causes me to chuckle a bit is obi is acting exactly like luke did in last jedi and no one seems to have an issue with obi

You guys didn't talk about it here, but one of those little kids at the beginning during the Order 66 scene was absolutely the Third Sister. She's bitter towards Obi-Wan and blames him for her trauma, because he failed as Anakin's master, and ruined her life as a result. Vader is probably throwing gas on that fire too. HATRED, classic dark side temptation. They're setting up a redemption arc for her that will run parallel with Obi-Wan coming to terms with his failure, and accepting that the Anakin he loved truly is gone. She may get a lightsaber through her at some point, but it won't be Obi-Wan's. Probably Vader's.
Speaking of the Ahsoka series, the one thing I need to see is her communing with Anakin's force ghost and offering him her forgiveness.
I also want to see her whip out the holocron/trainer thing she showed Ezra to show Luke who his dad really was
Nice seeing C-3PO in that party scene too. And it fits, chronologically, since he belonged to the royal family before Uncle Owen bought him from the Jawas. No R2 in sight, but he could also be somewhere nearby in that scene.

Yo, this show totally head juked me. I was not expecting young Leia. Amazing idea.
Also, remember, the Grand Inquisitor was a Jedi, actually a Jedi Temple Guard, one of the one escorting Ashoka around during her trial and seeing how wrong the Jedi were during that, and Ahsoka leaving the order
Once again, john Williams knocks it out of the park with the theme. Natalie Holt also did an amazing job.

Love how this episode really shows how Obi Wan is going through PTSD and all the emotions he has from what happened, the reluctance and all.
I literally don't have friends nerdy enough to get why this is so exciting to me, but I'll just say it here... Does anyone else think this is (retroactively granted) why Leia would go on to know that Obi-Wan Kenobi was a wise choice to be her "only hope"?

I have nothing against Alden Erinreich but Kristian Harloff put it best. This girl feels like Leia, both in the writing in performance. I can buy she’s young Carrie fisher - Leia. I didn’t feel the same about Solo.
@@OptionZero It's probably much easier to cast different actors for the kid version of characters over a younger but still adult version of the character, that said I agree. Leia was perfect here and younger Han was fine but didn't quite click.
Re Reviewmageddon, my mother used to tell us the streetcar she rode to work in the 30s ran steeply down a hill into a park. It was so scary the conductors would call out "This is it ladies, grab your hats, rats and false teeth!"
Hello there! The other inquisitor (Fifth Brother) is actually in Rebels s2. But the characterization is a lot different (five year difference but still) so I kind of wish it was someone different, as there are plenty of them yet to be defined, but Third Sister is definitely new.
That does seem to be a Falleen though, chasing Leia, which is Xizor's species. But I love that tiny Padme-esque Leia, such a perfect mini-Carrie. I kind of want her to play Alia in Dune pt 2.

I really think that Leia's tear down of her cousin was a moment of Force intuition. It just seemed to come to her suddenly and was way too specific for the general ability of being able to "read" people. I think by the end of this we'll see Leia start to come into her own Force abilities and Obi-Wan is going to offer to train her but he's shot down since her parents want her to go into public service and to keep that side of her hidden for her own safety. Then, later on when all those reasons for her to keep that side of her hidden are gone (Vader and Palpatine are dead, Alderaan and her parents are gone and she's an even bigger target as a leader in the New Republic) she decides it's a good idea to have some self-defense and approaches Luke to train her.
Thank you so much for doing this guys, I know it was a real push given Jay's travel deadline. 100% of my Obi-Wan Kenobi TV debut experience includes catching your reaction after I've watched. So thank you so much.
I was just streaming tears down my face the whole time because the actress who plays young Leia is just so perfect and I miss Carrie so much. Also Ewan's portrayal of a broken man dealing with loss was heart wrenching.

The fact that they kept the Leia secret is so good. Seeing Alderaan so lively before...well you know...is such a treat. And the actress is so GOOD. I can't wait to see how this story goes.

Exactly! Like I get y'all are traumatized by the sequels, but that doesn't mean you gotta be such a downer about new Star Wars content. It's actually gotten to the point where I've just stopped interacting with the fandom altogether. Listening to these people complain all the time has just become so draining and its quite depressing actually. Bail Organa was correct - Obi-wan isn't just responsible for Luke. Leia plays a huge role in the Rebellion so this shows how Obi-wan and Leia get to know each other. Great first 2 episodes.
