- I'm building an acoustic travel guitar for the Great Guitar Build Off 2022! In part 2 I finish up the sides and get to work on the top and back bracing, and sound holes.
Enjoy!

Love your extensive jig and fixtures 💯
The inner soundboard reminds me of the Virzi “Tone Producer” from the 1920’s. Cool project.
Amazing idea with the internal sound board, great video.
That trick with shellack is really good... Especially fact that one can prepare both top and bottom before glueing - I've always has that plates readiness separated in time and missed that outline everything opportunity. Thanks!
Really impressive design and work.
Thank a lot!
Hey Colin, brilliant tip about using shellac to mark the lining border on the inside of the plate! Why didn't I think of that?! I've been using tape, and honestly on any curves (like almost every single surface and line on a guitar body) tape is a struggle, and basically the result is half-arsed even if you're careful. Will definitely be using this one in future. The gutar looks great too - looking forward to the next video!
Thanks Chris!
That’s a brilliant design and it looks amazing too!
A simple center strip on the bottom side of the sound board would be sufficient
That floating soundboard is very interesting. I’ve experimented with building solid bodies with floating soundboards on top and some sound better than others. I may try something like Ben’s GGBO 2021 build but with a minimal number of dowels that could result in something like an acoustic with no sides. My instruments are meant to be plugged in with a piezo anyway so the actual acoustic output isn’t important as long as there’s enough resonance to get a nice sound to the amp. Will you be installing a pickup in this one?
I'm not planning on installing a pickup, but I don't think it would be too tough to do later if I changed my mind.
I just realized, there will be a giant pick stuck in this guitar forever. lolol
Haha, yeah I suppose I have made a giant pick trap!
Why are you bracing the sound board Your just restricting the resonance
