    I just couldn't get the arbor to adjust up to tighten the bolt. So, I finally tied a rope around the saw axel and wound it around a 2x4, and used it as a leaver to pry it up, and that worked!! I did have the bolt unscrewed about 1/2", but the other big bolt must have been so tight that the screwdriver wouldn't work. And I didn't have to mess with any other of those bolts that you show.. Anyhow, Here's a pic: i.imgur.com/i4hRf10.jpg

    The sound is very nice. Back and sides are interesting and nice looking. Top is rather plane but that is common with a lot of Spruce top guitars. Over all a very good guitar and you got the most important part right the sound. It has a lovely mellow sound that is quite enjoyable.

    Thanks a lot for sharing the video, great channel! Question, is there a reason you used a flat sawn blanks for your braces? As far as I know a quarter-sawn blanks are usually used to gain higher stiffness-to-weight ratio. Good luck building further guitars!

    • @BWorks
      @BWorks Год назад

      It was lack of knowledge at the time - I didnt consider it. I've built a couple guitars since with quartersawn braces. Interestingly, this guitar sounds really good and has been structurally stable. Given enough time the braces may split or come loose, but I'm curious as to how long that will take.

    Great video. I just came across the same problem today and found the same root-cause as you did (the bolt binding). I was also planning to leave the bolt out, but concerned that the unsupported riving knife may shift and bind some day (or something worse might happen). Anyway, I like your suggestion about tapping the metal plate. Did you ever end up doing that? If so, did you tap it in place or did you need to remove the bracket?

    • @BWorks
      @BWorks Год назад

      I chose to leave the bolt out and haven't had any issues, and have put many hours on the saw since. I have the knife support adjusted nice and snug around the arbor shaft, and with the lower slot adjusted and in place, the knife has lots of support. That said, if I were to tap the plate I'd probably remove it from the saw so I'd have room to work. I'd worry that I wouldn't get the tapped hole nice and square otherwise. Good luck!

    • @mattjd2
      @mattjd2 Год назад

      I’m probably over-thinking this, but I decided to open up the slot using a small Drummel size cutting bit. It took quite a lot of grinding but eventually opened it up and eliminated the interference. I also took a chance and tapped a 1/4-20 thread (eyeballing the perpendicularity). I lucked out and the new bolt sweeps the whole span without interfering. Since the original hole was for M6 clearance, the 1/4-20 tap did not result much thread engagement and could easily strip if torqued too much… so avoid stripping I locked the bolt (with light torque) and then epoxied the hex head against the sheet metal so it would not back out. I if ever need to remove the bolt I could always heat the epoxy to remove. Lastly I reinstalled the washer on the other side but left clearance between washer and casting to avoid binding.

    Thanks for the video. Saved me a lot of time, cut knuckles and switching between reading glasses and distance glasses figuring this out! If you crank on the height adjustment hard enough, the plate that those bolts are screwed into can bend, too. I agree with most other posts - I really do like this saw. I put in a Bosch router plate & router on the right side (when facing the feed side of the saw) and it gives me a very nice mobile station for both tasks. Thanks, again!

    Any idea what might be wrong if the bolt if off, the bottom channel is off and it still won't come up? I checked both the arms that ride in the channel and they are free but the blade won't come up.

    • @BWorks
      @BWorks Год назад

      It might be binding on that bottom cnannel if you have the steel slide completely off. The steel slide is needed for smooth movement of the riving knife. Or it might be the connection of the riving knife mechanism to the arbor itself, right around the arbor bearing. I didn't show in the video, but there are adjustment screws there that can be loosened to make the riving knife mechanism pivot easier - mine was pretty tight.

    • @AdityaShevade
      @AdityaShevade Год назад

      @@BWorks forgot to reply here. The issue in mine was different. The motor arm / arbor was rubbing against the connecting plate between arbor and the riving knife. Physically pulling the motor out away from the arm and moving it, finally sanding down the arm is what helped. This saw has pretty terrible design for blade movement.

    Great guitar build love the detail. I don't know if I've missed a video but I don't understand the neck attachment?? You have fitted thread inserts into the neck/fingerboard extension but then cut the top away. There doesn't appear to be a neck block extension below so I'm puzzled where you bolt that to, apart from the heel bolts of course?? Great video though.

    • @BWorks
      @BWorks 2 года назад

      Thanks! Yeah it's easy to miss - In part 5 at 9:22 you see me install the clamp. A u-shaped clamp bolts to those inserts and holds the soundboard against the fretboard.

    • @davidjennings9253
      @davidjennings9253 2 года назад

      @@BWorks Hi, Yes I see it now - interesting method - do you think clamping works as well as if you extended the neck block to incorporate the fixings?? I can't help feeling you lose rigidity in the top with that huge cutout.

    • @BWorks
      @BWorks 2 года назад

      @@davidjennings9253 it only works because the neck extends into the guitar top as well, not just the fretboard. So the neck acts as support for the top, instead of vise versa. The neck in turn is supported by the neck block which has a Spanish foot for extra strength. To be honest, future guitars of mine will either have a more supportive neck block as you suggest, or else an upper bout that is completely free of the fretboard and supported separately, to allow it to vibrate more freely. I plan on trying both methods - I'm still experimenting. That said, this guitar has remained stable so far, a year and a half on

    • @davidjennings9253
      @davidjennings9253 2 года назад

      @@BWorks I only made this point as, over the years I have done a number of neck resets where the top at the upper bout has started to distort and collapse into the sound hole so it just seems that you must lose an awful lot of strength when you cut that much of the top away. Admittedly those repairs have been on vintage instruments of up to 50 years of age so time had taken it's toll. If your guitar has remained stable then great and it busts a lot of theories on top construction and bracing. I have always used the extended laminated neck block to which I bolt through to the fingerboard extension as well as the neck heel. Keep up the great videos and best wishes for the future builds.
