My wife wanted crates for her shelves in the craft room. I used that method to cut some little 1/8 thick strips for the crates sides and bottoms. Worked well. I sliced up a bunch of 2x4 material. Great use of scrap.
love the drawer comments, I've been making drawers for about a year, some were literally a parallelogram ;). Just updated a kitchen cabinet with a wall oven and added drawers below and finally build a square drawer, small wins ;). This project was great, I'm likely going to be building a vanity for a guest bathroom soon, so bookmarked!
Using the magnetic stop block is genius, totally stealing that! Your timing is impeccable... I literally just finished installing a (store bought) MDF vanity 🤦🏻♂️ 😆
I gotta say the color looks way more blue in the shop vs the final product... Shows what different lighting setups do! Great work though, excited to put one of these in my bathroom
Great job Brad. @13:45 when you are installing the legs, the middle support might have been better to put 1 support on each side (left/right) of the plumbing pipes opening.
Gotta say Brad. Your sponsored ads are one of the few I actually watch as you put it on while still showing the build. Happy to watch the ads this way. Good job. Also nice build. When you use the foreman pocket jig are the positions random or are you measuring and placing specific points off camera?
I appreciate your support of the channel, Gary! I try to make it still have some value if you're not interested in the sponsor I'm talking about. And if you go back and look on a close up you can see these little spring stops on the Foreman. So whenever I do the edge holes I use those. Anything on the interior I just eyeball and typically go ~6" apart.
@@Fixthisbuildthat I wasn't able to locate the plans for this build on your website. I would really like to buy them if you could tell me where ti get them? This is exactly what I'm looking to do for my own bathroom remodel.
Why does no one make a hinged drawer on the top? Makes a great place for small items. My grandmother's kitchen, for the sink, you pulled on on it and it hinged open, it is where she kept most of her spices, when closed they laid flat, when front was open it pulled down about 60 degrees and you could easily read the containers and grab them. Many small things to store around a bathroom vanity too... Filip it down, access toothpaste/toothbrushes, not sitting out, not down in some deep drawer :) Loved the color of this!
So helpful. I plan to use the existing 72” cabinet base that in my master bath, but add in drawers instead of drawers that are there for better storage. *Plan to turn the 3 bottom existing drawers in the middle to a pull out trash can.
Yeah, Andy, it does seems a bit cringe worthy watching it go together, hahaha. But I knew the shadow lines would add that interest and separation to the base I wanted :)
@@Fixthisbuildthat Keep up the great educational content! I grabbed the camera two weeks ago and started my first video in a long time. Excited to get back in the swing of thins.
Brad! Hi Brad. Great videos. Thank you for taking the time to make them. What paint did you use for that vanity (e.g. brand and where to get it)? It appears to have a nice finish. Thanks again.
Very nice build, Brad~! Our bathrooms have the same contractor-grade cabinets where the plastic coverings are detaching from the doors & drawers. I thought I might tackle removing the plastic and painting the MDF doors & drawer fronts, but you know how painting MDF can be. Your DIY vanity gives me hope that I might have a less expensive alternative in replacing the units entirely. Thanks~!
What kind of wood do recommend for the cabinets? I am thinking of repairing my current cabinets. The bottom of drawers are ready to fall off and instead of purchasing a whole new vanity, I would like to save it if I can. Thank you for making this video!
It'd be a very short video :) Coarse threads for softwood and fine threads for hardwood. Length is determined by size of wood and Kreg jig has great reference for that.
Hey Brad, just wanted to ask if these plans were still coming? I'd really like to build one for my own bathroom and this looks like something I'd make!
@@Fixthisbuildthat back brushing? Using another bristle brush or is it a foam brush (to prevent brush strokes)? Would like to hear it explained in the live show, maybe? :)
@@Fixthisbuildthat wow, phenomenal job, the color is beautiful. So you had to issues with any brush strokes showing up? Could a foam brush achieve the same result?
Awesome video and awesome build! You had me cracking up laughing when the back fell off at 15.00. Thanks for making this video! I want to build this with my girlfriend!
Don’t remember where I got this (Stumpy Nubs?), but if you have some of those wood-jawed screw clamps, you can use them instead of the vice you said you needed. Clamp rests flat on bench and holds your piece vertically, and if you need extra stability you can clamp the clamp to the bench (Edit: now that I think of it, your parallel clamps could do the trick too!)
Great project, but what I really wanted to hear about was the finish. Do you feel like it’s on par with commercial finishes? It’s looked great and I’d like to hear about your technique and type of paint/supplies used. Finish is what takes a project from clearly home made to something you want to show off.
Brad, Did you use glue on your joints at all or only on some parts of the build?? Or is everything JUST held together with screws? I can never decide when glue is needed vs not needed. Thanks!
I always factor in the value of my time on home DIY projects like this. If it takes $300 in materials to build a cabinet that I would otherwise have to purchase for $700, I'm only "saving $400" if my time has zero value. Some people are willing to give their time away for nothing, and will take on projects like these. For others, the $400 in "savings" won't buy an hour of their time.
I do agree with you on the value of time - it will definitely take much longer to create this yourself vs purchasing one already made. But for the pre-made cabinets, don’t forget to factor what materials you are purchasing for that $700. So even though you are “saving” $400, MDF is made out of particle board and/or fibers, which is not as strong as the plywood he used. Additionally, MDF may not be able to carry the weight of marble or granite either without bending or needing more reinforcements - which also cost additional money.
one more question bc i don't have a small hand planer.. What's a good brand to look for and if there are any features to look for as an advantage to wanting that on a planer? Thanks.
OMG I have this vanity in my cart for $700 and have been toying with building it. Now I am building it. Thanks!
Finished product looks great, Brad! Grats on 1M too!
Thanks, Drew! It's still pretty surreal :)
Would love the plans Brad!! Looks great!
Would also love the plans-it’s perfect for my little bath remodel. Are they available in builders club?

This is awesome. I never considered building drawers to deal with the plumping. Brilliant!
Amazing Brad! Like I always said watching your videos. Nice tools! You did it again.
Thanks again!
That was an awesome build and love that colour
Very cool. I can imagine a similar look going for $500-1000, and the carcass would most likely be made out of particle board.
I think adding a beadboard in the opening would really make the project pop
Like the color so much
Like your clean workshop
