Hello Public! Use your common sense and BEFORE you take the caliper off, use a long screwdriver to pry the pad against the caliper piston and force it back into its cylinder. Simpler, faster and much more effective than any other method.
Thanks for the comment, its truly appreciated. It's hard to say what could be worn out on your car, soft pedal concerns could be a handful of different issues, uneven pad wear could be something not related. I would start with the calipers.... make sure the pistons aren't seized or seizing and check the slide pins for grease . Basically make sure everything at the caliper that should move freely does. Then work you way up if theirs still issues.
I'm actually working on a detailed brake video, it should be uploaded soon. So if you have any specific questions I can try to address it in this video.
Great video, I’ve done brake jobs before but not on my 2015 Mini Paceman yet, but the time is coming. Quick question, is it a must to change the sensor, or can it be reused? I don’t want to have to undo the wheel well shroud. Also, in the past, when pushing the caliper piston back in, I’d open the bleeder valve. Is that still necessary with Mini? Thank you for posting the video!
Thanks. The only part of the brakes I will recommend greasing are the slide pins, I would only use 3m silicone brake parts lube. It will not swell rubber and or cause caliper seizing. Everthing else just clean it with brake clean the best you can. Brake squeak is usually a dirty contaminant problem, dirty rotors, dirty pads , dirty hardware. I see a lot of tech grease the crap out everthing chasing noise....lol to get nowhere ."brand new cars don't have grease anywhere but on the slide pins" hope that helps.
Excellent vid. BTW you don't need to remove both caliper bolts, just the bottom one. Then the caliper will pivot up enough to allow a change. Might be useful also to show how to reset the warning light. E.g. ruclips.net/video/oe-vqO9BRRo/видео.html Also on some models this needs to be done with the parking brake off.
make sure to use a coat hanger wire or bungee cord to hold caliper out of the way, don't let weight of the caliper hang on the rubber brake hose.
Does the sensor tell you which set to change? My gf light just popped, i haven't inspected which set needs changing yet.
Is this applicable for a 2012 Mini Clubman?
What model/year is this mini?
are the sensors one front left, one back right?
Front driver's side. Not sure about the back. Haven't did those yet.
Gatorinnola Thanks! I did my back last night. the back is the passenger side
Top marks for the one handed work.
Thank you sir. If have time please check out my latest loads , they could use some support. Thanks again.

I usually just loosen the filler cap to let the pressure out.
Thank you for the excellent video! What year is this Mini?

I wouldn't touch the bleeder. You can reuse the sensors.
Thank you again!
when would you replace the sensor without the pads? won’t that cause the new sensor to trip again because the pad is too thin?
Uhhh. I guess......
Are we supposed to be able to see what you are doing?
Is there a brake sensor on all 4 wheels? Or is there just one on front and one on the back?
Just 2 front and back
Thanks for the quick response
Very helpful DIY video, thanks for sharing!
good video. did you put any grease on parts to prevent squeaks? do they squeak.

Do you always have to replace the censor cable or can you use the old one?
You can reuse the old one
Thanks
i thought it gets worn and you need to replace?
Do I have to replace the sensor?
Only if it's worn down
I have a questión, are does the car uses 4 Sensors or two?
2
two sensors one front and one back
Do both sides need sensors?
1 sensor in the rear, 1 in the front
Sensor changed but doesn’t reset what do I have to do?
something wrong with this Mini...it's not soaked piss wet through with oil
It was painful watching you wrestle with that C-clamp, good video.
wrench sizes? socket sizes?????????
Crap the break pads aren't good for a 2016 Mini Cooper S
