How is it that I've heard and watched you go over this a zillion times YET, this time, I'm hearing it and feel a renewed sense of "season"? I can't thank you enough for repeating yourself in hopes that even seasoned viewers can hear it for the first time...again!:)
Less inventory = less mess! I just decluttered my kitchen and it feels so good to let go of stuff I never use. My kitchen is less cluttered and more functional 🙌
I'm doing that too, my hostess days are over, I don't need all the things I used 10 years ago. I already gifted my Christmas and Easter dinnerware and downsized my daily use dishes to a setting for six. All the stemware is gone too. Just keeping what I use daily.
@@AZHITW Same here. My grown kids host the holidays now. I donated a lot of stuff I don't use anymore. I have simplified my dish cabinet, appliances, decor, everything.
@@juliejackman2649 Yes, I've always cleaned my kitchen every evening before I go to bed have done so for 50+ years. I don't think I could sleep if there were dirty dishes in my sink.
"My house felt hard, housework felt hard and I felt like a loser" I resonate with that so much! I'm so happy I found you. I'm tired of listening to organized women in their soft voices telling me about glass jars!
Realising I could run the dishwasher when I needed to, not when it was full was life changing. My kitchen bench is no longer a waiting place for dirty dishes to get into the dishwasher.
Dawn, I wish you would do a video on how to clean up as you go while cooking. I think a lot of messy people don't understand this concept, and that's why they end up with stacks of dirty dishes everywhere. When I'm cooking, I rinse off each bowl, utensil, etc., immediately after I'm finished using it and put it straight into the dishwasher. This way the food doesn't have a chance to harden and I don't have to "pre-wash" it before I run the dishwasher. Of course, I always start the day with an empty dishwasher, which makes this possible.
I taught my daughter to clean up as you go, she made fun of me about it. Now she is a mother of 2 and she knows the clean up as you go is a game changer. Yes this video is inspiring me more that ever!!
I thought you were a bit weird when you suggested clear counters - then I tried it, and it was a total game changer!!! I will never go back. Waking up to clear counters is magical, peaceful, and just wonderful!!! Great video, Dawn! ❤
I think it’s alright to purchase certain fun kitchen items with the plan that you’ll only use it for a year and then donate it. Many do that with clothing and shoes, but not so much with kitchen items. I’m getting a fun popcorn popper for the kids that’s totally unnecessary but I’m pretty sure the excitement of it will only last for a year. 😆
Thank you! What a great mind set. I think one of those cute waffle makers that make heart shaped waffles etc would be so fun for a bit of time. We don't have to keep it forever.
I also have on occasion bought something that I kept around and used before gifting it to someone. One time I was in an art gallery and couldn't resist buying a ceramic salt shaker that looked just like a rock even though I didn't need it. After using it for awhile I passed it on as a gift. I'm keeping my stovetop popcorn popper, though!
Your biggest tip: Move it out of your living space, but store it if you feel you might really want to use it in the future! (the breadmaker for you. The heart shaped pans for me.)
No only are you enjoying the benefits of minimizing your inventory, you are involving your children and teaching by example. Good for you! Keep being a great mom! 💕
One of the harder things was getting rid of the decor on the kitchen. I also didn’t think the toaster would fit in my very limited space. But I took the dive, and although it took a couple of weeks to adjust to the empty corners, I LOVE it now and there’s no turning back! It spurred on a whole new decluttering mode and I’m pushing myself to eliminate more inventory as the freedom in my life increases bc of it. Now I’m on disability too, and even with my physical limitations, it takes no time at all to tidy and clean. My apartment also doesn’t need to be cleaned as often, I only need to do 1 load of laundry/week, and so I’m saving lots of $ too! I’m obsessed with your advice, videos, personality, and all your family. What a godsend you are! 😅❤❤❤❤
I feel the same way. I have a pain issue and I have really noticed that my life is easier if I declutter. I have fewer shelves and fewer things sitting around. If I have a rough day, I can just do the basics, like dishes, pet care, and clean bathrooms, and the house looks great. It stays tidy and looks better, even if someone comes by. And getting rid of stuff I do not use makes space for me to put things I do use away. We have a little storeroom in the basement and we cleaned it out and painted and organized it. Now I have a place to put things that I only want to get out occasionally, like during the holidays. This makes my everyday life easier.
@@petmomful2260 isn’t it incredible? I was always organized and tidy, but this brings everything to a whole new level. I never realized how there is “inventory you can handle” and “inventory that makes you feel free.” For me that means a lots less than I ever had and I just love the stress relief I have now.
Here’s what my three teenage boys do when I reduce the inventory. I narrowed it down to one bowl, one plate, one cup per person in the house so when they’re all sitting in the sink or hiding all over the place around the house or in cars rotting, they then use mixing bowls for cereal then they use cookie sheets for plates. Lol😅 so now I’m down to one cookie sheet one mixing bowl and I’m looking around to see what else they could possibly use to avoid having to wash or put something into the dishwasher. I swear they are delinquents. I’m waiting for them to start using the dog bowls.😅
Yep! Kitchens require several passes to declutter. The 1st time is hardest but each time it gets a little easier because the benefits are soooo worth it 😊❤
@@Julie-si3hi and the 2nd & 3rd times are easier. Plus you start to realize… I use this over here so I’m going to move it. So it is still getting decluttered and also functions a little better 😊. Thanks Dawn ‼️
I'm a teacher and I'm using my Christmas vacation to do yet another house-wide declutter. I did my kitchen watching this and donated even MORE yesterday. Thank you for this cotent.
Oh my gosh Dawn … it’s like you read my mind! I was saying aloud to myself ‘Why is the kitchen always a mess?’ and then up pops your latest video … ‘Kitchen always MESSY? Try this!’ Thank you 🙏🏽 I’m loving your new haircut. It looks really great on you 💁🏼♀️🫶🏽
My kitchen is always a mess because I’m constantly cooking. I make everything from scratch and I absolutely love it. I made gingerbread houses from scratch for 11 children and their families to come construct at my house. Last night I made more gingerbread house kits, homemade bread for a party and gifts for two families AND a batch of cookies. Not to mention the actual meal I cooked in between lol I’m not a minimalist w my activities but I am practical w my inventory but I legit use everything I have constantly. My kitchen stays pretty clean and tidy but it’s never showroom ready but I’m finally realizing OF COURSE IT WONT BE! I’m always in there and I’m doing things I enjoy 🥰 But I am trying to implement more minimalistic ideas in the rest of my house
I do keep a much larger inventory of every day dishes and cutlery because I use my dishwasher and it takes a few days to get filled up. But clearing off the counters was a game changer and especially because my kitchen is tiny and I like to cook!
We just had to get a new dishwasher. This version has a setting that will wash only the bottom or only the top shelf in case you have a small load. So helpful.
Since I started watching you, I’ve done a lot of things differently. Sometimes I feel the same about cleaning my kitchen and all time myself I give myself 10 minutes to try to do the dishes and tidy up. It’s been working out because sometimes you just dread the cleaning but if you could give yourself 10 minutes, you would be surprised sometimes you do it quicker.
We have a dishwasher, but I use it as a drying rack. I prefer to do them by hand, because half our dishes are not dishwasher safe, or the plastic Tupperware gets food cooked in and doesn't come out. So if I have to do half the stuff by hand, I may as well do them all! I do run the dishwasher on occasion so that gaskets and such don't dry out. I've ruined a dishwasher before, from not running it often enough.
Okay I thought I was the only one who has a dishwasher and doesn't use it except as a dish drainer. I live alone and find washing my dishes by hand really helps me keep my kitchen cleaner as i do the dishes throughout the day. And, I agree, the majority of what I use for one meal (pots, pans, storage dishes are better washed by hans.
Any thoughts about things that need to dry after washing? Our food storage containers never come out of the dishwasher dry and we don't want to close them up with moisture inside, but when we leave them to air-dry on the counter they inevitably take a day or two to put away; it's hard to work around and makes everything feel more cluttered.
I’ve heard those Swedish dish towels can be great to lay it the bottom to sop up the water that gets trapped at the bottom. I even know some people that have a foldable hair dryer so the glasses can be bone dry and go straight to the cabinet, so they can keep the counters clear and start with a fresh kitchen every morning.
You are canning my life! I am a young mom of two under two and have become so sick of cleaning and picking up all day when all I want to do is spend time with my kids. When I do st and okay with my 2yr old, my mind has always been elsewhere thinking all that needs to be done. I recently donated 75% of my clothing to a local shelter and now each time I walk in my closet, I actually smile! Today I did my book shelf and kitchen! Little bit at a time but I’m looking forward to this simple way of living so that I can spend quality time with my kiddos without worrying about everything that needs to be take care of. Thank you, thank you!!
Oh my goodness I just moved and I thought I decluttered a lot! Putting stuff away into the new home I realize that I still need to downsize more. I’ve been trying to implement what you have been suggesting. Slow and steady wins the race
Great tips. I also like my worktops to be tidy & when they’re in a mess it really stresses me out. The only time they’re really in a mess these days is when I’ve been shopping. I unload all the stuff from my trolley onto the worktop & put it away a few hours later. I’m going to start working on this tho & start putting it away straight away. I’ve noticed that people in the US etc don’t usually have a kettle. That’s the norm in a British kitchen & not something that you’d store in a cupboard.
My trick to a clean kitchen is to never have dirty dishes. I started an intentional habit of washing dirty dishes as I use them. They never sit on my counter or in my sink. Dawn dish spray helps tremendously.
I am so onboard with your 50% occupancy of any shelf/cabinet (for me I have settled to 60%) that I am applying it to not just our kitchen cabinets but also wardrobes and utility drawers, shoe racks and what not!!! After decluttering from time to time, I just like to take a final look at the entire lot before moving it out of house, as it actually feels like physically getting rid of a load from my shoulders! It is so peaceful to visualize how much space/ sq foot area I have freed in the house by that volume.
My kitchen was the first area of my home I decluttered. I worked really hard to clear the counters as much as possible. I've come to enjoy seeing the bare space - it makes the room seem so much more open. Yet it wasn't until we were baking at my mom's house recently that I realized how much I NEED the counters clear for my sanity! The clutter in her kitchen overwhelmed me and I felt so at peace once I got back home. Thank you so much for your encouragement and advice. I'm looking forward to the new year when I have the bandwidth to resume my decluttering journey.
We've gone through & decluttered our kitchen twice & I know I could go through it again & get out even more. Unreal how much stuff that keeps coming in our house & it's only me & Hubby. 😅
I woke up one day several decades ago and picked up an old book which I’ve now decluttered but what I remember from it was a concept I expounded on back when I was managing several Flylady based yahoo groups. The concept was really simple based on the early. 1800s setting of the novel. That is the definition and distinction between a pantry and a food storage area. A pantry was a place to store pans. Cookware. Roasters. The larder was where canned foods and root veggies were kept. With this firmly in mind I avoided the hideous knock together style of lopsided particale board and instead built nice deep storage specifically designed to accommodate big kettles and roasters and baking pans. I sorted it by use. Two shelves for baking. All metal sheet pans cookie sheets etc. the upper section I had a single shelf for infrequently used glass bakeware and casserole dishes. Near the bottom off season appliances. At that point every bit of cookware was out of the kitchen in a well organized and logically arranged setting with no stacking. Either on end or side by side. That freed the shallow builder “pantry” in my kitchen. There I keep uncooked food. Real food like potatoes onions garlic sweet potatoes. Home or store bought canned tomatoes. Pasta and rice in tall labeled containers. No cookware. Just food. There are now three appliances on my counter. My 6 qt kitchen aid mixer which I cannot lift. A Breville toaster oven used daily and an espresso machine. I’ll admit my cookware storage looks like a high end department store display. But it’s set up to never have to hunt in hands and knees. And I made a permanent baking day during lockdown and I’ve stuck with it. So every Friday I start my bread dough and I bake on Saturday. I double or triple recipes and freeze. I always have something on hand for a shut in or new mom. And all it took was that old book to make me see that organized kitchens do not need everything right at hand. My stuff is in a former laundry room walk through converted to a kitchen annex. Pantry on one side second fridge and dry goods on the other in a 5x8 space. Not every body has a space like this but it was the seeing the space as a solution to an ever increasing jenga avalanche to keep my baking hobby and my sanity. I put my grandma pretty items on floating shelves and I did ruthlessly declutter them. Kept only my favorites and donated most so someone else could love them.
I just did a major declutter with my dad in his kitchen (he asked for help, and that was such an honor!). It has been such a game-changer-no more struggling to reach the coffee mugs, no more toppling food storage containers, no more wiping just the visible corners of the countertops. I hope everyone gets to experience that! P.S. Love the new haircut *and* the cute earrings!
Can’t wait to get in to this video - I’m naturally tidy but love watching any of your videos! Thanks so much for all your work 😊Merry Christmas everyone 🎄 🙏🏻 ❤
You know Dawn you were talking about decorating the kitchen maybe in a different season. This resonates with me. We moved and I wanted to decorate a bit but when I watched the interior design videos all I could think was my gosh that’s so much stuff! That would make me crazy lol
Thanks for this timely video, Dawn. 🙂 I have waffled about the removal of several small appliances and baking paraphernalia since my husband and I started the carnivore diet a few months ago. Not using the rice cooker, bread maker/pans, casserole dishes, pasta pot, and on and on. There is room in the basement so that's where it all can go for now. Cabinets will be almost empty, but I love that! Merry Christmas and blessings to you and all the family!
I did the opposite, lol. I am a vegan. But I cannot get rid of lots of things cause my husband cooks meat and barbecues. He likes to bake, too. But luckily I can keep extra things in my laundry room cabinets.
I've become really interested in this! I love carbs but I know I don't feel fabulous after consuming them. I'm struggling to know how to replace 3 meals a day for 7 days with only meat. I think I could be satisfied by the protein content, but the lack of variety is a big stall factor. I love crunchy stuff, nuts, veg, chips 🫣 How do you eat for a week if you don't mind me asking?
@@JenOooo I don't mind at all. 🙂 We eat very similar things almost every day. Breakfast is turkey bacon (we don't eat pork) and eggs cooked in butter, in an amount dependent on how hungry we are at the time. If hungry at lunchtime, it's often more like a snack- a hunk of cheese, maybe some beef jerky, or I sometimes just have a can of tuna with mayo and salt or a bowl of cottage cheese. Supper is usually beef: steak or hamburger patties, or a large chicken breast. I cook mine in butter and my husband uses the air fryer. My husband eats stricter carnivore than I do and he still finds the meat-centric menu extremely satisfying. I am slightly more lenient and do not deny myself the occasional cookie or apple etc. I thought I'd be bored of meat by now, but I'm not. Plus, grocery shopping is greatly simplified - bonus for me.
@@wendyg.97 Thank you so much for taking the time to reply 💓 I hadn't thought of fish or cheese! Think I'll wait until the new year, when all the Christmas trimmings are gone 😁 Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎄💚
About 6 months ago I decluttered a lot! Felt so good. Then early this month we put our house on the market. We cleared out more things and got rid of more stuff plus packed up a lot! We have things in boxes in our garage on our 2 big shelves. I don’t miss anything, except maybe Christmas music that I like to play on my piano. And when we move into our new house I feel that we can donate a lot of things that I’m not even missing 😬😬
I do my own weird version of meal prep and I am so much more likely to do that if my counters are as clear as possible. I am helping my grandmother next!
I have too much heavy machinery that we use too often to put away - grain mill, kitchen mixer, husband has his coffee stuff. We also have a 3 gallon water purifier and electric kettle that take up counter space. I don’t conceivably see how we could put any of them away. We use the electric grain mill nearly every day, my child uses it as well, who would not be able to put it away or get it out which would limit ability to help. We make so many things from scratch that we need a lot of kitchen gadgetry. Healthy nutritious food is more important than clear counters to us. We definitely don’t decorate on the counters though, that would be a laugh! I’d love a walk in pantry with counters for some of those machinery to go away. I love the clear counters.
I struggle to keep my kitchen counters clear. We live on a farm and the eggs , produce, half a loaf of bread, ECT. My older kids always leave things on the counters driving me crazy
Very cute hair! It is both inspiring and relaxing watching how quickly you are able to restore order. Making every item have an actual spot where it belongs is such an important concept. I am still figuring this out with legal/financial/health records, but have made big progress with household items. Today I finally parted with an expensive, broken statue I have intended to repair for 15 years. I feel relief. Thank you for voicing permission to part with things that cause clutter and stress! Somehow it just didn't occur to me as an option.
Similar story here. I dropped an already broken item I had been storing with the intention of repairing. It shattered around my feet and I was both horrified and delighted it was finally gone from my life. I don't keep broken items anymore.
This was perfect timing for me! I was putting a pan away in my corner cupboard, and realized that I have no idea what is in there. I’m sure that I haven’t rotated the corner shelves since pre-2020! I also have a large bottom drawer with dry goods that I basically ‘shop for the top’. I need to declutter both of those spaces. I must say that I HAVE been weeding out spices that are expired and reducing the number of different seasonings that I use. Seriously! Exactly how many different versions of Mrs Dash does one person need! 😂🤣😂 You continue to inspire me, and I look forward to the new year reset! FYI, I LOVD that your daughter has the freedom and confidence to climb up on the counter to put things away. Thank you, and Stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
So glad to see you wash your dishes with a wash rag! I was sick of the blue dish sponge issue of worrying how to sanitize it and constantly replacing it, worrying about harboring bacteria etc. So, I bought several red dish cloths at the dollar tree, with a white netting material on 1 side for scrubbing. I use 1 a day, with a bowl of soapy water, then throw it in the wash. I feel good I have a clean one each day and those blue dish sponges don’t end up in the land fill.
I packed up and donated everything Christmas, after 40 years of putting up a Christmas tree and decorating the house I just decided to get rid of everything and when I downsize, I'm going to get a little tabletop tree or a pencil tree and enjoy decorating without going up and down a ladder decorating a 9 1/2 foot tree.
As always, Dawn, your comments resonates so much with me. I'm that messy person naturally. And I always thought it was a character defect in me that I could not be more disciplined in the daily routines particularly the kitchen. It sounds dramatic but finding you and your message has changed my mental health tremendously. I really needed the permission to do things different. Thank you for giving of your time and for this awesome ministry You have to help Moms and women everywhere.
My water bottle is always out so I drink it throughout the day. I like room temperature water so I fill it before I go to bed and set it on counter by fridge.
I love that. No stress response from walking into your messy kitchen. That’s what I’m after!!! Because there’s a place for everything and I use everything I have.
Your videos have helped me so much. It literally takes one step for me to cross my kitchen widthwise, and about three steps to cross it lengthwise, so it's not very big, pretty much a galley kitchen. You've really made me think about what I actually use. I find the space is actually just fine if I'm thoughtful about my inventory.
Sounds like my kitchen! I could use slightly more counter space sometimes, but I wouldn't actually want a bigger kitchen ~ I'd fill it with more stuff! And my counters are spacious enough when I don't let papers pile up. 😬
I'm reaping the rewards of decluttering the kitchen. Now all the small appliances (coffee maker, kettle, toaster oven, blender, food processor, air fryer) can be stored under the counters when not in use and it feels absolutely amazing.
I make sauce that I freeze once a year so those containers now get stored in the basement to keep the kitchen cleared. Thank you for that advice on limiting containers
I needed this! All my normal decorations are put away for Christmas right now and I think when Christmas comes down I'm only going to take a few pieces back out at first. We have went down to one per person on everything and it has helped!! The kitchen does look like a tornado now sometimes but I know half an hour of cleaning it and the dining room works!
"I need to get my act together.", is something I have told myself many times over the years. Listening to you first, Dana K. White, and Cas have all helped me so much. I still think it, but I have made so much progress!
After this Vlog , I popped in and tried to Declutter some of the kitchen utensils. I did manage to get rid of 3..,2. I will give to my daughter-in-law they are Pamper chef, but I really don’t use them ,one I got rid of. It was so old and discolored and I don’t know why I had it, I got rid of it and someone gave me a beautiful tin of cookies. We finished the cookies but why was I still hanging onto that tin It’s going in the recycle box, but it’s kind of funny three utensils I got rid of and gave me a little space in my crock where I hold them…👍🏼
I'm a butterfly. My big items stay out. I do use my big items almost every day. In the past, I tried putting my big appliances in cabinets but hated it. I hated having to take them out to use.
I recently made another pass through my kitchen drawers and found two additional sets of cutlery! so i have kept the ones we use every day and then decluttered one set, they were mismatched so I just threw them in the bin, we now have a very pared down company cutlery drawer. Looks so much better. I feel since following you, I can 'see' the inventory now. And it's easier to get rid of the excess now I can objectively and without an emotional connection to literal stuff, and take a step back. Thanks again for helping simplify my home.
I want to say a huge thank you to you! I’ve been binge watching you this year and you’ve motivated and helped me to de clutter my whole home including my garage and attic (although that still needs work but it’s a start 😂) I find my home with 6 people and a dog so much calmer and easier to manage now, especially my kitchen which I have been ruthless with de cluttering and I’m so glad I did! I started removing things from my counters and it makes a huge difference. I do still have my toaster, air fryer and slow cooker out but they’re heavy and I have no room in cupboards for them anyway. Thank you so much
🫶Another great video 🎉 Unfortunately my apartment is very small (58 square meters) with no extra space at all (no attic, no basement, no garage, no shop… nothing), so there is no place to go for currently not used items 😢
I love cooking and trying new recipes, however, the other night I made something and it called for so many pots, pans bowls etc! I'm now thinking of pre-reading the recipies for that or only doing recipies that use multiple pans 1-2 times a week. A large pot on the stove that you can use to fry then make a stew, sheet pan dinners, slow cooker or instant pot meals, im sure there are more ideas to save dishes. I'm definitely going to start prioritizing 1-2 pan meals. Life should not be spent doing so many dishes lol
Even after all the hundreds of videos I've watched you still manage to hit home on something every single time! This is why I continue to watch your videos and love your channel! Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family!
I was decluttering my pantry and moved my crock pot to the top of my dryer in the laundry room just while I was getting rid of other stuff... Well, the dryer apparently isn't balanced and shakes when running and I didn't realize until I heard the loudest crash imaginable. My crock pot took a dive and now I don't have to put it in a time will tell box.... 🤦🏼♀️
This really speaks to me. I've been on a journey aiming for a simpler life, and thus trying to minimize as my husband and I enter retirement. I thought life would get simpler. I was wrong 😅. We have rental properties which always require some kind of work, we now travel more often, especially to see family and friends, we're constantly doing something on the house, and we're trying to squeeze in time for hobbies and activities. Our house often looks like a clutter bomb went off. I keep telling myself it's a journey...😊
I firmly believe that anyone who pushes back on clear counters has never tried it and doesn’t give themselves a chance to develop good habits. Yes I take the coffee maker and toaster down from the cupboard every day and put them back. I work full time, I use them multiple times per day and it’s SO WORTH IT. It’s habit-forming and now I don’t even notice it.
I cleaned off our counters back in May (?) and I LOVE it! It's so much easier to cook because the counters are now conducive to the whole purpose of counters; flat surfaces to prep meals on!
I was hesitant to remove stuff off my counters because I don’t love the bare minimal “look” HOWEVER I did and now I’m obsessed!!! I bought the same in-drawer knife holder you have and moved my stand mixer to a cabinet because I only use it a few times a year. It’s been a game changer and definitely makes me feel more relaxed walking into my kitchen!
Friday I decluttered and cleaned my kitchen. My inventory is much lower, but my husband manages to leave me a mess anyhow. I have 3 frying pans because he loves them all and won't let me get rid of any of them. My counter gets to be such a mess. My airfryer is part of my toaster oven. Both are rarely used. I'm debating on donating it.
We have all the extra stuff we need for when we invite all the family over for dinner which is about once a month but when I got sick my husband took it all out to avoid doing dishes and it was a huge disaster. I want to just buy plastic but at the same time it’s just nice to have the real stuff for nice dinners.
According to Cas I'm a butterfly so i like things on the kitchen counter. Not messy but arranged nicely. I hope your reset helps me after Christmas to get a great start to 2024.
I’m not even in a busy season of life but I just enjoy lower inventory because I feel free to do more things I want to do. When I first cleaned off my counter tops a friend asked me what happened to all my stuff. 😂
We purchased a stand mixer last year. My husband loves it ! I hate it! I love my Kitchen Aide hand held mixer! You will be pleased to know that it is stored in my pantry and not on the counter!!!!!❤
One of my "season of life" giveaways was a large cast iron frying pan. It was always in use when raising a family, but long after the children grew up we still had it, even though it was too heavy for my aging hands. It went out the door when I realized there was no sense in keeping something that was not only difficult to handle, but was bigger than the two of us needed for any meal. I also downsized my baking dish for easier handling. I now have one baking dish with a small roasting rack, two cooky sheets, one baking stone for bread and that's pretty much it for ovenware. Don't need more than that.

Great idea for a video. I try to do this, too. I really helps.
I do especially while I’m baking, I try to when I’m cooking dinner as well
"Clean up as you go " that's how I was raised. My grandma and my mom always did it so that's how I was taught...what a gift. 😊💕
Me too it’s so much easier.
Thank you for this! I've absolutely never thought of it that way! And you're so right!
Buy that stuff used. There is a climate crisis.
We bought a popcorn maker years ago. It still gets used every day! They're great, and it makes a healthy delicious snack.
@@sl9906 Yes, it really makes a difference. I definitely feel free to do more of the things I want to do, such as sew.
The 1st time is hardest but each time it gets a little easier because the benefits are soooo worth it 😊❤
I think your right...I need to go through again
It looks really great on you 💁🏼♀️🫶🏽
I am naturally messy. I have decluttered my kitchen and now, after cooking, it can be cleaned and swept In 20 minutes 😊
Not to mention the actual meal I cooked in between lol
I’m not a minimalist w my activities but I am practical w my inventory but I legit use everything I have constantly.
My kitchen stays pretty clean and tidy but it’s never showroom ready but I’m finally realizing OF COURSE IT WONT BE! I’m always in there and I’m doing things I enjoy 🥰
But I am trying to implement more minimalistic ideas in the rest of my house
I do keep a much larger inventory of every day dishes and cutlery because I use my dishwasher and it takes a few days to get filled up. But clearing off the counters was a game changer and especially because my kitchen is tiny and I like to cook!
We just had to get a new dishwasher. This version has a setting that will wash only the bottom or only the top shelf in case you have a small load. So helpful.
I wash mine more often on a 'quick' setting and got rid of a ton of everyday dishes, felt amazing. Everyone finds their own way!
even though my kitchen is highly decluttered and organized. I still don’t enjoy cooking 😄!
Your new haircut is super flattering! Love it!
Dawn has such a calming presence. She's both my mom and my sister! Hard to explain!
I love my vacuum robot. First I had to declutter and now it has room to do its job.
I bought one and haven’t used it yet because I need to declutter 😆
Dawn, your hair looks amazing!
*changing my life, not canning 🥰
I’ve been trying to declutter my kitchen since October. Hopefully I can get it done by Christmas. 😆
I think you can do it 😊
Oh my goodness I just moved and I thought I decluttered a lot! Putting stuff away into the new home I realize that I still need to downsize more. I’ve been trying to implement what you have been suggesting. Slow and steady wins the race
I'm with you!
Even 5-10 min a day does it
Permission to let whatever doesn't serve you go, as Dawn would say. A 🎁 to yourself..... Blissful space 💓
Your haircut looks so good, Dawn! I enjoy your realistic video content!
I have your ‘15 Minute Kitchen Declutter’ printable taped the the inside of my kitchen cabinet for a handy quick reference! 😁
My trick to a clean kitchen is to never have dirty dishes. I started an intentional habit of washing dirty dishes as I use them. They never sit on my counter or in my sink. Dawn dish spray helps tremendously.
Yes we love Dawn Dish Spray too! We found the recipe and refill ourselves.
Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year to you and everyone reading this!
A clean and simplified kitchen Is a gift to ourselves!!!!!
You continue to inspire me, and I look forward to the new year reset!
FYI, I LOVD that your daughter has the freedom and confidence to climb up on the counter to put things away.
Thank you, and Stay well!

Less inventory is key for me. I have ADHD and struggle to keep my kitchen clean. It's still really hard but it's easier than when I had more stuff.
Love the kid on the counter adorable family love 💕
Haha I noticed that too 😂 looks like my house lol
My water bottle is always out so I drink it throughout the day. I like room temperature water so I fill it before I go to bed and set it on counter by fridge.
I love that. No stress response from walking into your messy kitchen. That’s what I’m after!!!
Because there’s a place for everything and I use everything I have.
Life definitely is better with less "stuff" thanks for the encouragement.
Doing this right now in my kitchen filling a gigantic tub and moving it out of my small kitchen ❤
Dawn!! Your haircut is so cute! Looks so good on you! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
We finished the cookies but why was I still hanging onto that tin It’s going in the recycle box, but it’s kind of funny three utensils I got rid of and gave me a little space in my crock where I hold them…👍🏼
We have a super small kitchen with no pantry either. But I think this video gave me some ideas to move some stuff around to make it more functional. ❤
I'm a butterfly. My big items stay out. I do use my big items almost every day. In the past, I tried putting my big appliances in cabinets but hated it. I hated having to take them out to use.
That is me! I don’t always put things away. I let my mood dictate sometimes 🙄
You have inspired me to do a pre Christmas cooking declutter. On the day you need all the surface area you can get.
Avocado toast with everything bagel seasoning is my favorite!!
I want to say a huge thank you to you! I’ve been binge watching you this year and you’ve motivated and helped me to de clutter my whole home including my garage and attic (although that still needs work but it’s a start 😂)
I find my home with 6 people and a dog so much calmer and easier to manage now, especially my kitchen which I have been ruthless with de cluttering and I’m so glad I did! I started removing things from my counters and it makes a huge difference. I do still have my toaster, air fryer and slow cooker out but they’re heavy and I have no room in cupboards for them anyway. Thank you so much
I've been simplifying lately and I've never been happier!!
🫶Another great video 🎉
Unfortunately my apartment is very small (58 square meters) with no extra space at all (no attic, no basement, no garage, no shop… nothing), so there is no place to go for currently not used items 😢
I wish I had enough cabinets. We have two kitchen drawers total in this apartment.
I love your new haircut Dawn! And those earrings are really pretty.
Dawn, I’m really LOVING your current haircut! So flattering! And looks so great with your boat neck shirt and dangly earrings.
I have a little kitchen, probably same as your but without the island. Lots of extra space there for sure. I’m ready to declutter in the new year!
I cleaned off our counters back in May (?) and I LOVE it! It's so much easier to cook because the counters are now conducive to the whole purpose of counters; flat surfaces to prep meals on!
When the kitchen is clean, life is good. This was good motivation.
Yes this is so me and it is what my husband and my arguments are about. Please help
Love the haircut!
I love not having "stuff" on our flat surfaces. Makes our home feel really calm.
Thank you Dawn, you're always so refreshing!💞
Your friend Dana's 'glass storage dishes' are actually butter dishes -- put the butter on the clear glass part, and the opaque part is the lid!
I tried to like dishwashers but they are not worth it.
Thanks!
Dawn, love the new hair cut.
Dawn It has been 4 months since I came across your video by accident And I loved everything about it .Have been decluttering ever since and my house feels so much better But i am not done yet.
