- Mac OS X is the modern operating system that powers every Macintosh computer, from the Mac mini to the iMac Pro. It was introduced by Steve Jobs in 2000 and continues to serve as Apple's desktop operating system.

mac os 10.6's best
im a space nerd ok ;c
Steve Jobs (mis)pronounced it that way, so it's got to be correct. :P

I was going to comment that! :'(
The Agua interface of OS X 10.1 - 10.4 was absolutely beautiful.
Snow Leopard was one of the sexiest OS releases of all time. The aesthetics and functionality were truly impressive.
Snow Leopard is so stable and not so "iOS-ified"
I have Mavericks as my main OS (because I can still run iTunes 10...), but I also run VMs of Snow Leopard and Sierra. Sierra is S-L-O-W but Snow Leopard is lightning fast, much faster than Mavericks.
I still have snow leopard
still run it on my iMac. so damn stable, smooth, and UI is primo
Mac OS Snep
10:23 "MacOS X was the first version of MacOS X not to be named for a cat." This is ironic because my cat's name is Maverik...
Andrew Tyberg no it’s Mavericks with s
Now I know what to name my cat if I ever get one
So is Maverick your first cat named after an OS?
I love that name! I should name my next pet "Sierra" if it's a girl and "Yosemite" if it's a boy.
Lol people should start naming cats after mac os versions

HAhaha... Pronounced Jag oo war. Video pronounced Jagwire HAhahahahahahahahah....
I thinks that’s how Americans pronounce it. It does sound weird though
I choose not to like this to keep its 69 likes
It's not
bugged me too.
They should have stuck with cat names. MacOS Sabertooth sounds much cooler than High Sierra
They used all the names thats why they stopped
lynx, sabretooth, cougar
But, but, *JAGWIRE*
They should've came out with *BLACK JAGWIRE*
George Washington Sabertooth, Lynx, Panther, Ocelot....and there are other feline species.
I love that old, pre-Yosemite UI style. It’s a shame that it isn’t available anymore.
Maciek i always liked the change of Yosemite beacause of the dock and icons.
You can downgrade to Mavericks or before depending on what year your Mac is but you have to erase the hard drive
This is the number one reason I'm still on Mavericks.
Kiyoshi Kirishima this is why I’m still on Mac OS 9.2
MichaelSTheBeast I know how to downgrade to the original os that your Mac ran when it was brand new
Greg at a Jaguar dealership: "Hi, I'd like to buy a Jagwire."
Salesperson: "GET OUT!"
I still love love Snow Leopard. Best Mac OS X ever.
forget it! use W I N D O W S!

X.6.8 4Ever!!!!
Now we are on Mac OS 11.
The next update will be Mac OS House Cat.
Meow!
It will be released on April 1, and it will bring back every problem of OS 10.0.
Then After Mac Os AristoCats its Mac os BobCat
EtanTheComputerKid Catalina
MacOS Dog
It's amazing how relatively little OSX has changed visually throughout the years, at least in terms of layout and overall look, especially compared to windows.
My Favorite version was Snow Leopard. It ran so well for the time. Now, that I understand High Sierra to be a performance update. I'll stay with it for a little while longer. It does work well as a modern day OS.
Thank you for this input.
Now let's talk about Mojave. Dark mode is so good!
El Capitan was the last good one, Sierra is okay (6 months after release, which was never seen), and High Sierra was a nightmare. Snow Leopard days will remains as a macOS wet dream, a solid operating system to rule them all, stability, functionality. Only a Steve Job work.
mojave is pretty good tho
I thought I was the only one who felt this way, after Sierra, the OS is annoyingly unstable and with so many compatibility issues.
The Apache agree, everything failed on high sierra is fixed on mojave and failed again on
Catalina 😂
My favourites were:
10.4 Tiger;
10.6 Snow Leopard;
10.10 Yosemite and
10.12 Sierra (to a lesser extent).
10.13 High Sierra was to be an under-the-hood release focussing on improvements, but actually I find that _it_ needs to be improved. And vastly, at that…
because she's HIGH :))))
My favorite Mac OS 9 and Mojave
10.38376372 Ford takes over Apple and called it Ford Sierra Cosworth.
My favorite’s are Mountain Lion High Sierra, Sierra, Snow Leopard, macOS 9, macOS Mojave and macOS Catalina Dev Beta 1
@RobloxerMartin Why the h*ll do you want to stick to 32bit, though? I have news for you... Windows won't be able to run 32bit apps for long either, and there are Linux distros which have been blocking 32bit apps for ages... I know switching to a "new" architecture may require you to purchase certain apps again, which is a pain, but to be stuck in the past will eventually cause you far more of a pain.
The main issue that I have with having to re-purchase apps is that, more often than not, you _can't_ purchase apps outright any more. Everybody and their aunt seems to want to tie you in to a subscription model. _That's_ what I consider a failure...
Damn I miss the Aqua look.... pretty bad. Wish they gave us a choice one day, just for fun.
To mention Leopard without highlighting Quicklook is a huge oversight. One of the most useful features ever in an OS release.
damn i miss steve jobs :(

Omg the leopard version gives me so much nostalgia. I haven't seen those leaves in like 10 years.
Another reason for the long period of time between Tiger and Leopard: With the transition to Intel going on, Tiger for Intel practically was its own major OS release.
Mavericks was one of the best. RIP for the old ui design. I wish they kept it. That’s mainly the only reason I haven’t upgraded since.
I love this series very much, learn something new! Keep doing it!

OS X has come a long way. I'm very pleased, thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Snow leopard was best
Honestly cook isn't the full reason for the problems, remember when Jobs was CEO and Apple "Fired" him, the company is ran by large investors and board members. Cook's final thoughts are only a portion of what is going on.
If the board members are still as money driven as when they fired Jobs, i'd say Cook has done nothing wrong and is just another puppet to a large company. But, not saying Cook is free from many of his questionable descisons lol
I agree. Several year's ago bought a used 2010 mac mini (the last one with a built-in DVD super drive) and planned to upgrade it from Leopard all the way to Mountain Lion but learned that my older OS X programs (i.e. Apple Works) would not run if, upgraded past Snow Leopard and also, I would have to say good by to Front Row.
no, just no
Snow Pussy 4 lief
Matthew Goodwin My favorite is Yosemite, whereas the worst is El Capitan.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Funny though… the other day I was thinking it would be fun to have something that could change the look of the user interface to look on the surface like older versions of MacOS. Useless I know but just something fun. As much as I love the look and power of the current operating system, there’s something nostalgic about the old pre-OSX operating systems from the 1990’s.
“Helvetica Noy-yay” lmao
This makes me interested in old operating systems
What the fuck is a Jag-Wire?
It’s a typo
A special thread only the Judge Advocate General is allowed to used. I guess. If he's a cat.
The last version my MacBook (Mid 2009) can update to is El Capitan, which is also the last version of Mac OS X to use the iconic Macintosh startup sound. Never letting go of that.
Carbuncle from Puyo Puyo same
When I bought my PowerMac G4 DA, it came with the beta, with a coupon for the full version of OS X for free! I left work early when my Apple retailer received the full version! I almost didn't get a copy as they went FAST!
This channel is amazing. I cant imagine how long it took you to put this information together.
currently using mavericks 😄 (downgraded from high sierra)
Just curious, why the downgrade and why so far back?
Well at first it was experimental; I installed 10.9 on an external hard drive to see what it was like. Eventually I ended up installing it on actual hardware because I like the design of it so much.
FrenchFriMashups sierra is the best modern version of Mac OS
from a MacBook Air user since mavericks era. High Sierra feels kinda snappier but also a lot more crash. It feels faster yet unstable, but that might be only me since I use developer version. Yosemite is the sweet spot for me.
There's a website to download Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan, Sierra, and High Sierra. These are all legitimate installers, they are just archived by someone.
Thank you for explaining this love it 😍
Make the History of iTunes :)
Good idea, thanks for the suggestion!
Lol after iTunes 10 I literally stopped using iTunes...just my random 2 cents....
iTunes is history.
Theme wise I think Tiger is possibly the best looking Mac iteration of the ones shown in the video.

You mean *_Jaguar_* (hopefully). :)
That is how you pronounce "Jaguar". 'Jag-wire'
And a Jaguar is like a mixed tiger/cheetah
Idk maybe you need to learn to spell jaguar
Thanks for this video. It showed everything I missed between Tiger and Catalina. I recently got an MBA and I had an iBook and dell laptop before that.

It’s really good to look back and get surprised that old OS X updates were paid! Can’t imagine having to pay for an update in 2020!
I miss the intro videos :(
It's impossible to overstate just how good an update Panther was. It literally fixed everything from the previous version and the was release that had comparable performance to OS9.
One word Mohave
Mojave!
I got my first mac around 2005 and i started with Tiger. I feel like I got into it at the exact right time.
I have a jaguar disc and the original box!

Just so you know, it's pronounced 'JaguAR' not 'Jaguire'
TheLakitu My thoughts exactly 👍
I do, i rather enjoy attacking grammar nazis...they are honestly just as useful as Nazis themselves
TheLakitu Lol clearly you didn’t know where the “jaguire” pronunciation came from
Steve Jobs used to say “jaguire” back when it was introduced, hence this RUclipsr saying “jaguire” as well
Look I was just pointing out the way we prounounce it it here in the UK alright.
That does't mean you need to make a comment like that, think before you start typing.
The next version of macOS should allow us to use the aqua interface.
1. This video is about to blow up.

Snow Leopard was my favorite for a long time, updated a partitioned drive to Mavericks to test new software and settled onto El Capitan eventually. Only decided to go into High Sierra after buying a backup laptop. Until then, I don't have a good reason to get Mojave yet.
Your video is basically telling a story how OSX getting worse every version. Thanks
With snow leopard being the last os concentrating on improvements to the os over integration with the wider apple ecosystem it truly was the best version
Where's Mojave :p
Wasnt out at the time
this is an old video before Mojave was released
It's interesting. When Steve Jobs announced it in 2001, he said Mac OS X was set to last 25 years. So that's interesting because that 25 years is almost up!
Pooooma Jagwire whats next Teeeega
I remember when I bought my first Macintosh, it came with the Leopard. Since then I have tried all the following versions.
Is that J.J Abrams at 4:40?
Good eye. I'm gunna say yes just for the heck of it.
It is. I remember watching this video at the time.

Am I the only person who pronounces the X like “ex”?
SB988 2018 same, iPhone [ex], Mac Os [ex]
SB988 2018 how would you otherwise?
Abbie- Leigh ya ikr
Abbie- Leigh I pronounce it “ehx”
Bryan Abrego pretty much the same thing
I remember modding windows to look like osx tiger...it was so much fun... But all the modding made the pc slow, then came snow leopard, the first time i came to know about hackintoshing, i bought a disk of snow leopard and installed the os on my laptop... Then i fell in love with macos, so i bought my first mac
1/3 of the icons are original, the rest is just an X
I came into Apple for my own computer use starting at OSX Panther. With the white plastic iBook G4 with 512MB RAM and the little flashing white light upon sleep on the latch button. I also thought their overall user experience and GUI was more intuitive and fun to use than Windows. They consistently improve their products similar to how Honda and Toyota keep building upon strong fundamentals. Unix is a good base and they focus on continuity across devices and very sleek and impressive hardware details.
You know how to pronounce Yosemite but not Jaguar? *Really?*
Ironic. When i first saw Yosemite i thought it was pronounced yo-sem-ite but when i saw Jaguar, i knew it was pronounced jag-oo-are. Crazy
When I first knew of "Yosemite" I thought it was something like yoss-might, hearing how it actually it's pronounced leaved me astonished. lmao

I think that OSX and IOS are the best operating systems ever, I love so much this S.O . I love watching videos and docs about S.O history and old architectures. Its so hard to make a operating system, and Apple guys that before was in Next, made things so, so right with Nextstep ...

When he said "it was a bit...furry", I thought....FURRYS WERE INVENTED ON MAC OX X?
Down200 furries started in the 80’s, so Apple Mac II made furries XD
Furries ruined Apple lol.
Leopard/Snow Leopard is probably the most memorable OS for me.
Only apple would charge you to beta test a program
Not everyone has the money to buy the lastest OS.
Many use the beta as means to test the OS to see if they will like it.
Plus if it is free, you allow more people to test.
More people testing provides are more real world testing scenario which all test all aspects of a system and find more bugs.
I love these Apple explained. Would be good if you did a sister Chanel for other companies??
JagWIRE lol
That's how Steve Jobs (the CREATOR) pronounced it and that's how us Americans say it, so...
Adipose didn’t expect to see you here
This video feels like a montage of my life. Forever alone.
snow leopard 🐐
R.I.P Skeuomorphism ????-2014 😭😭😭😭
Why can everyone understand the fact that "Mac OS X" is the name of the system while still looking for Windws 11 since "Windows 10" got basicaly the same naming method? Is it because Apple used Roman characters makes it looks more like a product name while Microsoft did not, make "Windows 10" looks like a serial number?
Everything you said is wrong.
The underlying OS (Unix) is called the Kernel not core. The GUI (OSX) is called the shell. There's some computer explained.
You're seriously pronouncing jaguar wrongly!
*J A G W I R E*
Unless you're Steve Jobs and created it.

Snow Leopard, Mountain Lion and Mavericks was one of the best.
Sierra was The best ..

im in high sierra
its just sierra on STEROIDS.
:)
(and its laggy for me since i have an imac from 2012 and with high sierra : /
Always hearing about problems with high sierra, not Sierra tho
High Sierra is the upgrade noone really needed because Sierra is still rocking.. guess it is good to live with it.. but it is also not hurt if you don't.
Mojave is the best!
My favorite release of Mac OS was mavericks
you can notice how after they stopped charging, they also stopped adding significative new features
it's all "refinements" since mavericks
And here we are!! the year of MacOS 10.14 Mojave !!
thanks to make a nice video 🙂
MacOS X Tiger's logo looks 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice Apple history, and I tried every systems since System 7. Snow Leopard is the best, and the worst is Mojave, Catalina, and Big Sur.
I love how when they ran out of big cat names they switched to mountains lol
I love your vids soo much!! ❤️
I like both of the skeuomorphic glass dock and the flat dock in macOS.
Some important things most people may know already, but you didn't mentioned it: Snow Leopard was the first Intel-only Mac OS X; Lion was 64 Bit only and the first to support Retina-Displays (HiDPI) ... I for myself have almost all Mac OS X releases running on both, PearPC (emulator), and Real PowerPC and Intel-Mac hardware. Even one of it on a Hackintosh ;-)
I recently Subscribed to this Channel and love it. One comment is that I am shocked at the lack of intelligence of these other viewers/subscribers based on these comments. I just do not understand how these people that leave these comments which clearly demonstrate their petty stupidity could even OWN an Apple product let alone be worthy of one. One rule to abide by as a viewer or subscriber. Have something contributive, constructive and substantial to say or just say nothing and move on.
My favorite Mac OS is 10.7 Lion since it was the last version that allowed me to open AVCHD files with the MTS extension by quickly double-clicking through the folders. With the introduction of 10.8, we were forced to right-click and select "Show Package Contents" to get to the same files.
Tiger and Snow Leopard were pretty stable. I still run Mavericks on DAW boot drive and El Cap for my main boot drive. I run some legacy apps and don't want to screw things up, not to mention I'm also using older Macs.
@4:40 Philip Schiller!!! LOVE HIM!!!
Yosemite also conveniently and without warning disabled many applications functional under Mavericks (e.g. Apple Motion)
my first Apple computer I owned was a 2009 white mac mini with Leopard
3:13 Did you observe the fact that it was a PowerMac *G4* BUT THE CPU WAS POWERPC *G3* ?
This is great...I completely forgot that Mac OS used to cost money!!
My MacBook Pro is still running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. It is a Late 2009 Model. Still runs ok.
