I took your advice and paid a pro I trust $135 USD for 60 minutes of his time. I’m trying to break 90 at the moment.
Integrating the subtle setup and swing changes has been a challenge but your muscle memory is going through massive confusion (aka HeLL).
Long story short: 2 rounds since lesson plus hitting 100 range balls…TOTALLY WORTH IT. I had 5 OBs and three 3-jacks in the 2nd round since the lesson and posted 94. 80s are within reach without a doubt now.
If you play a lot (more than 20 rounds a year) and you’re still shooting 100+ then you absolutely should heed the Playa’s advice and have a pro take a look. Much cheaper than $135 too. I just chose a top-guy in my area with whom I had prior rapport. Worth every cent.
P.S. I plant every damn feather I find and grew a birdie last round. That sh*t works.

My game is the worst right now. These tips are helpful regardless of whether you're trying to break 100 for the first time or if you're a single-digit handicap who is struggling. Always love hearing your thoughts, playa!
To add: Point 8 (swing mechanics) is so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so accurate. I can't count the amount of times I've listened to 20 handicappers diagnose their own (and others') swing mechanics. It's all wasted effort. See a pro for this stuff!!

First, this channel and this man deserves a medal. I mean, what a playa man! I have only been golfing for about 2 and a half months but I've already managed to break 90 in just 3 rounds of golf. Before I stepped onto a course for the first time, I had only hit balls at a driving range and Topgolf venues and it was this moment I realized hitting a ball from a lie on real grass and a fake mat are 2 completely different worlds. Long story short, my first actual round of golf I shot a 121. I was furious, but also determined. So I kept practicing and found a grass range to practice at before my next time at the course. 2 weeks passed and on my second round I shot a 101. I slashed 20 shots and I was more than happy! Just last weekend I played my 3rd round of golf and managed to shoot 88!
So for anyone out there that thinks breaking 100 or breaking 90 is out of your reach, think again! Even if you have been golfing for many years and cant break a certain number, it is still possible! Seek out some help from a local professional or even a low handicapper and it will work wonders!
P.S. I lost a total of 19 balls when I shot my 121, 7 when I shot my 101, and only 3 when I shot my 88! Losing balls is all part of the process:)

Had a chance to do a bit of an experiment this weekend as I was playing a 9 hole course twice for the full 18. Able to compare Way Of The Playa to how I imagine most people would usually play without thinking. I'm usually a mid-high 90s hitter for 18 btw.
First 9 holes i hit my 250-260yd driver every tee shot other than the par 3s, and didn't split any shots after the tee. Even with 250yds to the hole i would use my 180yd 4 hybrid, only smashing it trying to get close to the hole. Lost 3 balls, a couple of 3 putts, ended the front 9 with a 51. Standard.
For the back 9 I decided to STRICTLY use Way of the Playa Breaking 90 logic. Used my 210-220yd 2 Hybrid off of every tee and then split every approach shot longer than 160yds (my 6 iron distance) into combinations of my 120yd 8iron, 105yd PW, or 85yd 56deg. Putting seemed the same, only lost 1 ball on the 11th and played with the same ball from 11 to 18.
Back 9 I ended up shooting an incredible, delightful, unbelievable 41. By far the lowest score I've ever hit for 9. Also got my first birdie ever, on a 320yd par 4 (210yd 2 hybrid off the tee, 105yd PW that landed on the left fringe, holed out a maybe 4yd chip in).
Ive always believed in it but never fully put Way of the Playa into practice (peer pressure from golfing buddies would have me getting out the driver and long hybrids even when I knew I shouldn't). Now, I'm a complete believer and will be implementing strict Way of the Playa for a full 18. Anyone who has watched these videos but not tried the system, I urge you to try it out just once. Leave the driver at home, and split up your approaches, and see what happens. Never did I think watching these videos that my first time trying it I could save 10 strokes over 9 holes. The system just works.

Playa, I just wanted you to know that after watching a ton of your videos, I've dropped my score big time. I went from 101-105 per round to, yesterday, shooting a ten-over 44 for nine. My seven-iron was working, so that's what I used. I hit it off the tee on a 320-yard uphill P4 and that went so well, I used it OFF THE TEE on a 428-yard P5 and found myself putting for par. I bogeyed both of those, which is fine! I don't have confidence in my driver, so I only used it once, and just focused on getting the ball into places where I knew I could hit a shot with confidence. I still have work to do inside of 120 yards, but the tips are a massive help.

This a primer on duffers and fluffers! Every point is solid. The advice about 1 chipping club and gapping is spot on. I play about 5 clubs most of the time, I take 14 with me... but the same 5 get played over and over. Learn to chip and run shots. Half or more of the game is 100 yards in - PERIOD! I missed shooting 95 instead of the 100 I scored because of 3 footers on my last round... so true!

I recently broke 100 and played 18 with the same ball using Matt’s principals. The key was really spending the time on the putting green, chipping, and practicing shots from 120 yards on in. It also helped to take the ego out of play (e.g. not hitting driver off the tee on dangerous holes) and not taking hero shots (shooting between the gap in a cluster of trees). Looking forward to applying this list as well and breaking 90! Thanks, Matt! Also, eine kleine scheisse is my favorite new phrase.

Matt, I’m recovering from a broken shoulder and have developed an appreciation for the punch shot. I moved up a tee box to offset my loss of distance and am “punching” most of my shots so they hit in front of green and run on. Last two rounds have been low 70’s. So this works for breaking 80 as well. I agree with gapping as well. With my injury I’ve learned to hit my clubs different distances. It’s amazing how much straighter your 3/4 and “punch” shots are. Love these instructional vidoes! His on-course video's are the best, but most playas need these reminders to stay inside their own bags. Seeing Phil win the PGA Championship with a 60 degree from the bunker doesn't do anything for our games.

Man I like this dude. My wife is South African and I’ve never loved her or her SA family more until I subscribed to this channel. SA’s can be so funny. Her family is not funny and they hate golf. I love funny and I love golf.

I just recently started playing golf about three weeks ago and just played my first 18 today, shooting a 110 (I'm very happy with that because it was better than I expected and I set a goal for myself when I started to break 100 in a year). I noticed that it was a lot easier getting on or near the green than I thought it would be, however the vast majority of problems I had were in the short game - making terrible chip shots, 3, 4 even once 5 putting. I only had two occasions where I hit a water hazard forcing me to take a drop (once with a terrible hybrid hook and the other just a very unfortunate bounce). I plan on making my next plenty of range sessions solely focused on chipping, putting and bunker shots, focusing heavily on short game and reducing silly errors. Love this video, can't wait to watch your 6 part series!

Thanks to golf sidekick, started watching what feels like well over a year ago and routinely shot low 90’s, put it all together and shot my first sub 80 round this weekend. All the tips in these videos help so much in normalizing all of golf and making par the good score

Love it. What a great video. Am sending this to all my pals that are seeking to break 90. I am in that boat too and on some rounds can score under 45 over 9 holes, but them stuff up a few holes so I don't get near 90. Hands up, no where near enough putting practice. My Pal who plays off 7 regularly puts in the 20s, whereas I am 30+ every round.

With the help of these videos and my dad being a former PGA licensed pro, I just had my first round under 90 (86) a few weeks ago after only playing golf for 1 year. My dad taught me everything to know about the swing but I would have never gotten close to breaking 100 without these videos. I use all of these strategies and swear by them. The only place I stray from what you said is opting to go for flop shots when I feel really confident because I practice them a lot and feel comfortable with them. Learning the punch shot, learning how to prevent me from having a 30-60 yard half or quarter swing shot, and learning to chip running shots with my P wedge are the three things that made the biggest difference and allowed me to be in the 90s comfortably.

WOTP works. I set a goal at the beginning of the year to shoot in the 70s this year. After a few years break from golf I knew it would take some to to get back in that range. I shot a 99 in March 10 rounds later today in May I shot an 81 by following what I’ve learned from this channel. Highly recommend for strategy and mentality.

Dude if you wrote a book I would buy it, just saying. Also this comment is a promise to you that when I break 90 I will send you $10 for every shot under I hit. You're expounding the best ideas of "every shot must have a purpose" plus a bunch more that I haven't heard anywhere else and you're doing it from the perspective of someone who walks the path, using relatable language to anyone under the age of 70. Write a book, I would buy it and so would a lot of people.

Played my first 3 rounds of golf in about 5 years in the past month or so and shot an average of 55 over par. So I’m not so much trying to break 100 as I am 110, if not 120. Your advice is music to my ears. I shall follow it diligently, Playa. And I’ll probably go see the pro at my local club too.

I need to practice this stuff. I don't practice much and then hope for a score. Also, if I play the course and plan targets I do better. If I think about my swing instead, I play poorly.

It´s not only "scheisse" it´s the "good scheisse"! ;-)
Great video, I personally can only stress the part about mechanics and lessons. Started 1,5 years ago at the age of 44 and wasted 1 year by not taking lessons. This year we booked a lesson every 2 weeks and a double lesson from time to time to play 9 holes, so the pro can see what we need to work on. Two weeks ago we had another chipping lesson and last weekend I won my second competition playing a new personal best (45 on the par 31 nine hole course). It was only the 4th competition I played, but this year we´ll play one weekly.
Also, my wife literally asked me a few minutes ago what I want for my birthday and I think I´m going to go with some Tuba merch :-)
    Keep up the good work!
