I watched this video and listened to golf is not a game of perfect. And I’ve gotta say, mentally this clicked with me.
Last weekend I shot a 97. Today on the same course I shot an 82!! The lowest I’ve ever gotten was a 94.
Thanks for introducing me to this mindset, and stopping hero shots. I actually tripled my first hole trying to be a hero, but then I stopped.
    Thank you

Matt. I’ve been playing for 2 years. Averaging 110 per round. I adopted your system and I started leaving my Driver at home. I was getting made fun of by my friends. The last two rounds I got a 93 and 94 score. But my stubborn friends dislike that I don’t use a driver because all pros use them so they must be a requirement.
You’ve changed my game bro. And since I’m addicted to golf, you’ve changed life for me. Thank you. I’m confident I will break 90 soon.

Don't listen to any of your stubborn friends. Matt knows what he's talking about. I haven't used a driver since I started golfing 3 years ago, and I'm terrible with my irons, but because I can chip and putt like a boss, I've shot in the 80s a dozen times or more.

My golfing buddy is a damn good driver, but he knows i use my 3 hybrid to drive with. 200 yards straight is better than 250 in the woods/water
And when we play battle golf he ALWAYS takes my 3 hybrid and 4 hybrids first 🤣 making me use driver
And luckily him and I are probably within 2 handicap of each other so we just play even when playing
My short game chips/pitches are better than him and our putting is equal
Makes for very fun play against each oyher

Amateurs have no place in using a driver until they have learnt to hit there irons well consistently.
If your friends are not in the single digits and still duff shots from time to time and then making fun of you for not using a driver the jokes on them.
Your obviously the smarter one of your group.
Keep up the good work. Stay tactical. The better you get the more they will try and make fun off you good way of tracking your progress. Until it getd to the point your just better than them every round then all there egos will feel crushed.

I started golfing again last year after not playing for over 10 and even then I broke 100 maybe 2x.
Since picking the game back up, I’ve been really taking it seriously. Your content has been the most valuable thing I’ve found. The approach, mind set etc… has really been a game changer for me.
This year I’ve not shot over 100 once and this is 100% counting every shot. Being honest because I want to improve.
I’m consistently in the low 90s and have now broke 80 the last 2 rounds. 88 and 89!
What’s even better is I know the mistakes I’m making and have a solid practice plan to improve those.
Lie adjustments and speed control are my 2 killers. I’ll be breaking 80 once I improve those areas.
Bravo to you sir! You are the Playa!

This Video is the best of the whiteboard series. I think it applies to all golfers. You are a genius in presenting things so most people can understand.
    Some of my keys
Driving Range - once I’m making good contact I’ve found that when I’m at the range, I start tinkering and mess my swing up.
Short Swing - Long swing - I started making better contact by working my contact drill with small swings - worked wonders
Mulligans - on other benefit I’ve found from taking mulligans in casual rounds is that I normally hit a better shot with the mulligan and that’s the shot I’ll remember when I use the club the next time.
Wedges - different bounces is critical based on conditions
Thanks for taking the time to help us!

      @TheTurdEye Год назад +6

      @@lennylele727 Thanks for asking!
      I did not break 90.
I shot a 96, same as my best score last year. But there was a lot of positive things that I learned from this round.
Major thing is that I got my first ever lesson in march with a pro.
All my landmarks as far as ball flight and yardages are out the window...in a good way but still it was hard for me to plan shots to attack greens.
Overall, before I used to fade most of my shots and would aim left a bit to control it. I wasn't compressing my irons so they would go reaaaally high and would die in the air weakly fading to the right.
Now my strikes are much better, longer, and if I aim a bit left.....it goes LEFT...haha
My shots off the tee with the 3 wood are BOMBS! Really happy with that, no slicing at all, I outdrive most of the time my friends with their driver and I am in the fairway!
The major problem for me that round was SAND...I lost AT LEAST 5 shots because of it. I never had the chance to practice it, ever. But this year I got a membership at my nearest golf course and now I will be able to practice putting, chipping and sandtraps as much as I want for the first time.
3 putted a couple of times and doubled chipped 2 times...
So yeah...overall really happy with my progression with the lesson but I will have to get myself a couple of rounds to accomodate to my new tendencies!
I got a garmin watch as well that I love but it wasnt giving me the good holes on the course, they changed it recently I think...will help me plan better to avoid traps.
It is a tough course as well, my partners who are more advanced than me did not break 90 as well.

    Thank you matty boom boom.
Your method to golf has helped me go from shooting around 100, to today shooting a 87 of the stick... no bunkers, no OB, no water. Same ball for the full 18 (a rarity for me usually)
    Summated differences:
    1. Pre planning round, knowing carry over bunkers, distance to hazards, and which holes are safe for the driver, and which are not.
    2. Confidential 3i/3H off the tee for danger holes instead of hit and hope with the D
    3. Playing a tee shot to get me to 110-140m... my preferred approach (Pw, 9i, 8i)
    4. Rangefinder and GPS watch
I even planted a feather on Hole 2 today and grew both a birdy and an eagle (1st ever for me!) over the round! 🎉
I am sold on the way of the player!
    Keep on keeping on!

I started listening to your break 90 videos at the end of summer 2023. My best score by the end of the year reached 92. Kept trying to apply your advice and finally broke 90 twice this week. I attribute it to better self and course management by applying the par+1 strategy, no hero shots, planning back from the green, and reducing time on the range to practice chipping and putting. The par+1 strategy specifically reduced my anxiety and frustration. In general the advice has helped me better manage my expectations with attainable goals.

Thanks Matt! You give a lot of brainy ways of thinking into play. Your so funny the way you deliver some of your ideas speech wise! I do go into playing that it’s ok to play bogey golf for the round. If I make par that’s icing on the cake and that rare birdie helps against any double bogey previously made. I’ve been playing about a year and a half now starting around 120 and after taking lessons broke 100. I am averaging around 93 - 96 now and have occasionally got a 88, 89 or 90. I don’t really have a 175 consistent club as I my driver averages around 160. Occasionally I get lucky and I drive 175-180, but can’t rely on it. I do play front tees as my instructor told me that’s the correct tees for me. I’m going to try some more of your ways of thinking in my game and I feel confident that hitting in the 80’s on a regular basis is in my future!

Matt, I have gotten a few lessons and since 2020 I play about 10x a month. I usually in the low to mid 90s. I have scored a few times in the high 80's but I cannot say I did it with the thought process I had today thanks to you. I watched your video THIS morning then I went to play. I applied about 90% of your points made. I scored an 88 (Par 72) A 47 (+ 10) in the front and 41 (+6) in the back 9. I had doubles on three holes that I had to take a DROP in the front 9 on a par 5, par 4 and par 3. I par 5 holes. Bogey the rest. NO 3 putts. I can say I left 3 putts that would have been par. I am able to describe every shot I took today. I was PRESENT in every shot. I took notes on the score card too. I took my driver away from a few holes I normally use a driver. On one of them, I par the hole going with my 5 iron. The lie is the BEST advice. To READ the lie of the ball was key for me. Using a 5 iron vs a 7/8 iron vice versa to get out of the long grass. Avoiding "playing the distance" was key. Thank you so much for your help. #golf #advice #howtobreak90

My last 5 rounds were in the 102 - 97 range and after seeing this video and making myself some paper annotations for the course (and listening to the Bob rotella audiobook) I managed to shoot 92 (my lowest round ever)
Thanks Matt for the valuable help, you rock!

Hello Matt, I have always been a 110-115 golfer my whole life. After a break of 5 years i went back to golf. Got fit for clubs and had 10 lessons with a pro. Something about your tactics really made the penny drop for me. Hit 89 on a championship course in Tenerife! Thank you and i will be trying to get that handicap down and continue to drop my scores. Thank you for the advise. Once i am regular in the 80s i will take the next step and watch the break 80!

your advice works.. 2 years ago I had never broke 90.. I just took 3 of your rules and was quickly breaking 90 more often than not.. the 3 rules.. get in play off the tee.. if I do get in trouble, no hero shot. only hit a shot that I'm sure I can pull it off at least 4 out of 5 time... and lastly, just giotg (get it on the green).. Thank you for the solid advice

I absolutely love your content, I’ve lowered my score watching your videos not for the, how to hit your club and the mechanics of your swing but the mental part of the game such as this video. I appreciate it and keep up the good work. Also, I played an amazing round by taking a yardage book from the course I play and going hole by hole each distance from both sets of tees I play and cutting everything in half, so if I have a 400 yd par 5 I take my 7 wood and hit 200 yds twice, I don’t have a need for a driver, on the par 5s I use my 3 wood as my driver and I have a lot more confidence with it. Again thanks for the tips and keeping my head clear.

I played my first round in March after a 9 year hiatus due to a serious back injury. Was clear my mind was used to scratch golf mental pictures. I had to fight a massive duck hook all day which got me into a heap of trouble.
Was exhausted afterwards I think due to scrambling on every shot with not much confidence on any shot. So 90 broken ..next step is 80. Plenty of promise but tons of rust as well. There is a massive difference between a range swing and a course swing. Ta for all the strategy lessons .

Last year I fully embraced the way of the playa, took some lessons from a trusted pro locally, and after just a few rounds I added up my score in the clubhouse and couldn’t believe the first time I broke 90 my score was 82. And a few weeks later I beat it with an 81 on a different course. This works, everyone can do it. Believe in the process!! I was shooting 100-105 the year before and not enjoying the game. Now it is so much fun

I have been trying to break 90 for 3 months now and still not there BUT today, I still havent break 90 but I started to see the light and tosay I feel the JOMO especially when my playing partners all hit the left sides of the course and I am in the middle of the fairway. It feel good! I am going to stick to this and I am going to break 90 soon! Thank you for the video!

As a steeper attack angle player who generally creates alot of backspin and has no issue sticking balls, knowing your carry distance can't be understated. And knowing the *range* of your carry distances, not just 1 number. Stepping up to a ball and knowing if I mishit my 7 iron, its going to go 145, and if I hit it 10/10 pure its not going to go farther than 160, is way more valuable than just thinking 'ok 7 iron goes 155'- is a way more confident feeling when I'm looking at hitting a green, because now all the sudden the mentality changes from "I have to hit this really well to get the distance I want" to "I know this ball will land on this green even if I miss a little bit, I just need to put it the right direction" and the latter is way less nervy.
    Great vid

I recently got the golfing bug again after years away from the game. Went out yesterday hoping to break 100 and was on track on 15th to threaten 90, but had 8s on 16th and 17th. Then missed par putt 5footer on 18th for 99...
Watched your video this morning and it really resonated with me. It was only a couple of good shots but bad decisions that cost me on 16th and 17th. A bit of WELD would have taken 2 or 3 shots off both those holes and maybe 1 or 2 off 18th.
But next time I go out I'll plan more, and be present more and hopefully make the right little decisions.
Great content, thank you. I will check out those books too.
