I know it sounds kinda silly or even weird, but there's something about these Thrill Of It All episodes that always leaves me with a 'full heart' at the end. I think it's because the dudes being interviewed, along with Jamie himself, are just really decent human beings who know how the world should be and try their best in life. ...Well anyway, that's my two cents ...and no i'm not stoned! hehheh
Wow, Ray Barbee! He was my favorite skater when I first started at 10 years old around '88, '89. I watched Public Domain and Ban This 20 times a day back then. I was amazed at the way he controlled his board on flat ground. It looked effortless. I learned no complies on my Vision Psycho Stick because of him.
I'm so sick of the "the homies" and beer chugging thrasher worshipping fraternity skateboarding has become. this guy is a breath of fresh air for skateboarding. so awesome!
Adam Wilkins when I first started in the 90s it wasn't that way. individuality was alive and well. now it's somehow cool to be a sheep clone. no idea how it got here
Ray Barbee's kickflip pivot on the school bench in Public Domain single handedly got me into skating. I'm not sure if it was the first one, probably not, but it didnt matter. I couldn't believe that people could flip their boards onto things. Fell in love with tech that day and nothing has changed 30 years later.

I saw Ray in Charleston South Carolina skating a demo for The Firm back in '03 and Ray was the realest dude out there. He was skatin with all the locals. Ray is the truth.
Matt Day 100% right. When I was a teenager I used to see Ray pretty often skating around Riverside. Usually at the old AAA building, his skating was as smooth as his voice. Sometimes he would be chilling in his car reading the bible, can't remember if it was an El Camino or a Ranchero. He would hear my skateboard and seemed to happily invite a session to start. So cool and respectful.
Love Ray and Jamie! I started skating in 85 and have never quit. I was born again on may 1st 1999! My first tattoo was Jesus Saves on my for arms and a few months later I saw Jamie with a Jesus saves tattoo in a magazine. I was super pumped that another skater was saved! I was talking to tons of people about the Lord and remember wishing I could skate all day with other Christian skaters and be lights at skate parks and on the streets! God is faithful and has done so much in my life the last almost 20 years it's rad! loved the part where Ray talks about being pushed back into the bible and getting the foundation! the first verse my dad showed me after leading me to the Lord on my twentieth birthday(best birthday present) was Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. I got chills when Ray talks about who showed up at his door right away. same sort of thing happened to me. Satan came to deceive and lie and get him off track! but with the help of Lance and the Lord he was an ACTS 17:11 Christian!! searched the scriptures daily to know what was right!!! I could go on forever about this stuff. Love you brothers!! ETERNITY IS GONNA BE RAD!!! keep being bold!

Another amazing interview. The part about losing the momentum to skate really spoke to me. I didn't really skate for a while because of other life stuff just getting in the way, but once I stepped back on my board I realized how much I really missed it.

WHAT THE HECK?!? Is that the Wiley “Essentials of Psychological Assessment” series behind JT?! I am now a psychologist, I credit so much of my worldview (compassion, acceptance of independent thinking, making something creative out of the “everyday”) to the influence skateboarding had on me. Jamie Thomas, Ray Barbee, and Mike V were some of my biggest influences (plus Kenny Reed’s hella stylish ollie) on my life then and now. Glad to see these two hanging out. Such genuine souls.
Compared to the nine club, thrill of it all has such a chill dynamic style to the interviews. I think interviewing one on one is so much more personal. I have nothing against the nine club, I love their content too. But these interviews make me feel more connected and more there.

i've always believed religion is a primitive form of philosophy - a philosophy in the sense that it provides a guide on how to live ones life, and primitive in the sense that it doesn't believe in free will, and doesn't explain everything thru reason. I don't completely disregard it because everyone needs a philosophy to live by, but i do wonder when an intelligent person subscribes to it. And normally i wouldnt even talk about this kind of stuff in a skate video, but Jamie just had to bring up the god thing.

Take the concept of "Original Sin." According to Christianity we are all born with original sin regardless of anything, and the only way to get rid of it is to accept Christ. That's not free will. Obligation to a Superior-Being regardless of anything is simply not free will.

Jamie's looking like a 70's gay fisherman or something. I love it. Ray's probably my favorite skater. He's up there with Natas and Rodney as far as I'm concerned. He's just a joy to watch. He skates like water flows over rocks in a stream. So beautiful and effortless. I still watch the Rubber Boys part all the time.
My very 1st skateboard was a Ray Barbee Ragdoll, pink version with yellow (?) schmidt stixs, with tracker trucks, double wide santa cruz coffin-cuts. I loved that board, that's the board that I fell in love with the thrill of street skating. It was my brother's board, technically, and he took it to a friend's house and left it there. He got mad at me when I was upset that he left it there...

when ray barbee and and torres showed up at truckee contest and rode thru the parking lot everyone knew as soon as we saw them the contest was hands down thiers they should have won the contest just by thier first practice run of the day!
I’m trying to keep up with modern day skateboarding; riding an 8 inch deck and getting tech, but all I want to do is grab a reissue and skate a launch ramp. Skateboarding was much cooler way back when I think.
8/1/ 81... Mtv Launch Date ... Yes Ray!!! When MTV was rad - those Saturday night concerts were so sick and the bands featured was not the more pop'er band's except for Duran Duran. It was mostly bands like Ozzy, Judas Priest, Quit Riot... Basically right when heavy metal was in it's infancy and raw as fu#k!!! So many things went down in the 80s and it really makes me proud to be a true 80s kid from 5 to 15 starting in 1980...
