The biggest thing about fairy types that frustrates me is that they resist bug type. Bug type was weak enough as it was and when a new type was added they could easily have made bug resist fairy to balance it a bit more.

Even most steel types didn't want to switch in to many of the the attacks given their absurd base move damage and the fact that most dragon types have strong fire attacks or earthquake/earth power for coverage.

Im sad about Bug not being super effective against Fairy, yes, Fairy resist Bug because all the fairy tales or guardians of the nature, but that is already represented by his relation with the Grass type, the Bug type represents all the Insects and things that are part of our real life being usually middly realistic, weird or pointing in shapes, meanwhile the Fairies are represented by the butterflies that are nothing against a predatory bug, for me that makes more sense that the relationship of Dark and Bug.

Many argue that Dragons were a broken type due to their incredible strength. However, it's important to understand that their power stemmed from their exceptionally high base stats, rather than their typing advantage. Dragon-type Pokémon have consistently boasted some of the highest base stats across generations, making them formidable contenders in battles. Dragonite, Salamence, Garchomp, Latios, and others dominated, much like Metagross and Tyranitar. (all sub-legendary 600bst)
i'm not saying that dragon was a bad type, but it was balance, (similar to water 4 resistence and 2 weknesses)
    Fast forword to now:
You can clearly see the weakness of Dragon by looking at the lack of Dragon moves on non-Dragon Pokémon, or throughout the return of some dragon in the meta, thank to tera that allow them to lose the dragon type. Do we ever see non-dragon pokemon using tera Dragon?

  • @loudwhispre9406
    @loudwhispre9406 Год назад +8

The thing that is utterly wild about Fairy doesn't have to do directly with Fairy type. It has to do with it's weaknesses. Before Fairy type existed, Poison hit only *_ONE_* type for super effective damage, Grass type. Meanwhile, Poison was resisted by itself, which is a problem given that Poison is already considered a "stall-esque" type since it's best known for spreading residual damage with T-Spikes and Toxic, as well as bulky Pokemon like Muk, Tentacruel, and Amoongus taking advantage of their Poison typing to resist Fighting and U-Turn.
But Poison was also resisted by Ground and Rock. Being resisted by Ground is just asking to invite in a Pokemon that knows STAB Earthquake, while being resisted by Rock let in Tyranitar to pursuit you as you switched out once your Sludge Bomb thudded off it's massive Sp. Def. Being resisted by Ghost was just another kick in the pants, since so many Ghosts were bulky, like Drifblim, Spiritomb, Cofagrigus, Jellicent, and the gen 4 Rotom appliances. But even the frail Gengar now had a quad resistance to opposing Sludge Bombs.
Steel was in no better of a place offensively. It hit the already-weakness-laden Ice and Rock types, big whoop. Use Close Combat to punch through these defensively-burdened types, or better yet, lay down Stealth Rocks and render Ice types useless, while Rock types don't appreciate taking neutral hazard damage (because Rock doesn't resist itself). Meanwhile, Steel is resisted by Water, an already invincible type that's very common as a defensive backbone, so you'll never face a serious team that can't switch into you. It's also resisted by Fire and Electric, which are two typically frail types that struggle to find opportunities to switch in. Until you throw the game by clicking something goofy like a Steel move, so now these Specs Fire and Electric types can dish out STAB Fire Blasts, Overheats, Thunderbolts, and Volt Switches while you have to shamefully retreat to a Dragon type to soak up the Fire and Electric moves.
Poison needs some serious buffs on the offensive spectrum, while Steel is kind of okay where it's at, being a defensively S tier type and an offensive letdown. If they did buff Steel type's offensive capabilities, it could do with some more weaknesses as compensation, like to Electric (really weird that it isn't weak to that), or Water (water rusting metal), but ultimately I don't think anyone is in a hurry to change Steel type too much.
But Poison could do with some buffs and there's already a type that's got it way too good as it is. Water type. Two weaknesses, Grass, a type that turns a broken Pokemon into a balanced one, and a balanced Pokemon into a mediocre one. And Electric, which can be pivoted onto almost reflexively, thanks to Ground types. Water is such a broken type, hitting 3 types for super-effective in Fire, Rock, and Ground, which are all important types to hit, and being resisted by itself, Dragon, and Grass. But Dragon and Grass don't really matter as resistances since Water types all pack Ice Beam since Ice is an amazing OFFENSIVE type when you don't have to take 25% from Stealth Rocks to use Ice Beam. But Poison could work as a type that is super effective to Water, since you can contaminate water with toxic chemicals. But mostly so that Water will finally have a weakness it doesn't automatically check with Ice Beam, or even worse, Freeze Dry, allowing Water to check all of it's resistances in a single move.

And Bug has always struggled to find a niche, with its best claims to fame being specific powerful moves; As shown by Ice, all it takes is for those moves to be distributed a bit more widely, and the Pokémon with the Type will see their usage fade away, unless they have something going for them outside of being a Bug Type.

I do like how Poison got a buff though because of Fairy but Fairy 100% felt TOO engineered as a response to Dragon

Atk, and isn't even resisted by anything. Like what's the justification in that design? Could've easily made it another Ice Beam, but I guess they thought Moonblast really needed to be that cracked.
Fairy's resistance to Bug is also weird to me, feels like they only did that as a "fuck you" to U-turn instead of just making that move base 65 or whatever. Turn that Bug resistance into a weakness / neutrality and I think that makes things a bit fairer

Dragon offensively was balanced around neutral damage, adding more powerful new steel types and then absolutely flooding out fairy types wouldnt have been that insane without immunity to the best neutral coverage type in previous gens. Also yeh literally remove steel resists, add them to fairy, Steel 2 + super effective coverage on 3 of the most powerful and common typing or secondary types. Gamefreak have 0 foresight for game balance.

Personally I think it's because people sleep on how good Fire is and what a big mistake it is to let them in easily. Fire actually has 5 other resistances and half their switch-ins fear burn by definition.
More viability for Fire creates a metagame with more manageable threats with more specific answers.
Whereas a metagame where Dragons alone were what you feared coming in created a lot of untenable situations because every Dragon carried Earthquake, Fire Blast, or some other common coverage to blank Steels.
That and making Poison and Steel moves actually get used as coverage.

Since this is a video about typing I want to bounce a theory off some of you people.
Would ice typing be fixed defensively if it gained an immunity to water?
    Arguments for it:
I'm pretty sure type balances are logic based and that the defending type has more of said element than the attacker. So putting water on an enormous amount of ice would just result in it freezing, which is why ice being immune to water wouldn't be that out of the question. With the only exceptions being Scald, Steam Eruption and the Volcanion move, which could be neutral, or even super-effective, like freeze-dry acts for example.
Would love to get some input from you guys! I'd make it into a video but I'm not exactly a content creator lol

  • @exaunitive4948
    @exaunitive4948 Год назад +2

I think there are 6 main reasons why the fairy type "feels" op
1)it's weaknesses are more physically defensive types and most fairies are strong special attackers(eg magearna zacian and azumarill are exceptions)
2)the types fairy is weak against fairy has coverage to deal with it most fairies have a fire/psychic move
    3) moonblast is an extremely spammable move and I think needs a massive nerf 95 base power 100% accuracy with a 30 % chance to lower spa?yea sounds op
4)most broken types like dragon and psychic have immunities but fairy doesn't
5)fairy types usually get broken moves and abilities aside from their good typing(zacian magearna azumarill the tapus the list goes on)
    6) literally 90% of fairies get recovery which I don't think needs to be mentioned is a REALLY good trait to have
In my opinion the strongest types are
    1)steel
    2)ghost
    3)fairy
But according to BROKENNESS I would say
    1)ghost(yes even with an immunity)
    2)fairy
    3)water
How I would nerf the fairy type:-
1)make something IMMUNE to it(not resist that does not solve the issue)
2)add more offensive steel/poison types and maybe add a weakness
3)nerf the move moonblast seriously it gets way too much value at least make it like 90 bp or 95% accurate

Since Ground type Pokémon are immune, they could only pick between Rock and Ice. I wonder how the metagame would have evolved if it was Ice-type. You got a powerhouse in the end for your hard work. Gen 6 rolls and it becomes completely unusuable due to the fact Fairy completely resists Dragon. Then GF's dumbass decides to create a Fairy/Dragon type in the form of mega Altaria which was not only hypocritical but a huge slap in the face to dragon users. Haven't played Pokemon since ORAS and haven't looked back.

I always felt that Psychic should resist Fairy (instead of fire) and bug also resist it the same way fighting and bug resist each other. Also i wonder how it would be if instead of inmunity to dragon, fairy only resisted it 🤔

The type chart for fairies is so unbalanced. Crazy how physical fairy types need play rough / spirit break. There's like no good fairy moves

And conversely moonblast is the best move ever, I think bulletproof should negate it like focus blast

I love Fairy-types in competitive. Lower tiers were pretty clearly starved for Fairies in ORAS, seeing as RU slurped up decidedly mid Pokemon like Togetic and Granbull, but Florges, Sylveon, and Gardevoir put good showings in UU. Mega Audino was both the mega and the fairy type of NU. Clefairy, Mr Mime, and Mawile were and are ORAS PU titans. Even little Carbink has a solid niche in ORAS ZU, alongside Wigglytuff, although their placements might change with the departure of Purugly. It’s pretty clear to see in the proportion of new Pokemon that Fairies were a big focus for gens 6-8, as you have a lot of new fairy types added in those gens to make up for it being a new type. That’s why I think there was less of a scramble for fairy types in the lower tiers of gen 7, as the scarcity and novelty were reduced a bit.

I wish they attempted to balance the types at least a little bit, make ice resist fairy and bug hit fairy super effectively.
