I watched the previous videos describing the drawer system and workbench multiple times trying to figure out how to build it. I've just purchased the plans so now instead of analyzing, I can start building. thanks Dennis!
Hi Denis, I’ve followed your channel for quite a while now, and love your work, explanations and projects. It would be a great addition to include a table saw into the workbench.
By far my favorite channel for woodworking! Thank you Dennis, love your work and your shop. Definitely inspiring. Keep the videos coming they're awesome. Best to you.
I think that your workbench is amazing. It makes my old Black and Decker Workmate look like something from antiquity. So pleased to have found your site. Great videos, made to inspire other woodworkers.👍
Thank you for this! Being a beginner, I always find inspiration here in the US from your shop designs. Even if I’m starting with something even smaller and more basic, I really like being able to see what’s possible sooner rather than later. Woodworking is a hobby for me to create for myself and close family and friends and be a little self reliant. And as a hobby I like the idea of being able to have a creative space that’s functional and more importantly-a joy to spend time in. Your designs check those boxes for me. As my means allow I’ll be buying your plans soon enough and look forward to more ideas and inspiration to come.
A fabulous looking bench! "How you do anything is how you do everything" This is why I love your channel. Everything to the best, even if it can not be seen! Chapeau my internet woodworking friend, Chapeau!
Wonderful to hear that we can buy your plans. I definitely will purchase them. By the way your son looks just like you. I had a good laugh. Thank you, Denise.
Fit full extension drawer slides. Otherwise the rear third of your drawers are unusable. They also hold the drawers shut, and make opening and closing much easier. Worth the extra cost.
I like your design method with the plywood beams. I built an outfeed table with an MDF top and 90 degree side wall because of your previous videos. In the US I had to use regular MDF and shellack finish. I probably won't do MDF again. It isn't very durable. Maybe the black that you use is better. As for the frame, years ago I built an assembly table ago with construction lumber. I laminated after jointing and planing in the same method. I actually like it better because of the weight and it has stayed pretty stable and I really like it. Yours is a great build and probably easier for beginners and you don't need a jointer or planer. Another great video.
Awesome. Great bench. I’ve got a small shop. I’ve been looking for a bench that is multifunctional. 1) MFT dog hole system, 2) European style vises for planing and hand tools, 3) use as an out feed table for my table saw, and 4) router table. So far, I like your design the most. It’s nice looking and efficient. I think I can Tweak it to make it work for me. I’ll be buying those plans for sure. Keep them coming. I’ll buy the plans for your drill press table when they become available as well. I also really like your miter saw station, but I don’t have a Kapex and probably won’t get one. I like the Makita better. Keep it up Dennis, I love your channel. Now if I could get that colored MDF here in the USA for a decent price, I’d be accenting every thing with blue MDF. Have a great week!🎉
Watching this again. It’s so interesting how you see things differently depending on what your needs are. 9 months ago when this came out I really liked the bench. But now I’m in a different situation. I think as woodworkers we are always striving to make our shops more efficient. And a lot of times the layout is ever changing. Right now I’m trying to plan a new layout. One of the things I plan to build is a workbench. While Im super lucky to have a good size shop…. It’s not a typical shape and has some things to work around which limits where tools are. With each layout I’m always left with…. Where do I put my router table. AND… to add to that… I’m also wanting to upgrade my router table and haven’t settled on what. This workbench solves a couple of issues for me. I’m definitely going to have to consider this in my plans.
I only just stumbled across you video this afternoon. I really like this bench design and I may use it as I've just moved and I have a modest basement to set up a woodworking area. I'm well into the whole track saw thing but I'm starting over with more modest priced tools. You have a wonderful large workshop and mouth watering collection of tools.
Dennis, you never fail to provide awesome content. I love your approach to your builds. I am hopeful to see how you built the bench that maintains your laser engraver. Keep going. If I ever strike it rich I would fly you here to help me setup a new workshop. You are the best!
Now that is one cool bench! A joy to watch your videos. Always inspiring and I admire your imagination to keep coming up with great ideas and sharing your knowledge. Well done. One Handed Maker - Australia

Hi Dennis! Thank you for an excellent video review of your workbench design. It is clear that you have given a lot of thought to the features and functionality, which is a big time-saver for me. As Canadians, we are measurement bilingual (but officially metric). However, most wood is only sold in Imperial units of measure, so working with metric plans is difficult (but not impossible). Having said that this will be an excellent addition to my shop. I'm wondering if your cut list is available in a spreadsheet format so that I can convert the measurements?
Hi Dennis, as you will hopefully remember, I have built three Workbenches now to your designs in my small workshop. I now try to keep my workshop as tidy as I can so it is easily usable when I want to use it. I have yet to build drawers under my workbenches and this has been delayed mainly because of the difficulty in obtaining Birch Throughout plywood so will have to use some less quality plywood just so I can get things finnished. Not sure if you have the same difficulty in obtaining Birch Throughout Plywood in the Netherlands but it has made things very difficult for a lot of projects. I thought you would say you have difficulties because you are on holiday every week (I believe) 😀. But Yeah, it becomes problematic, also in the Netherlands and the prices are becoming insane!.
@HookedonWood 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yes, we have just got back this evening from holiday No. 5 this year. We are just trying to decide if we can fit another one in during September before we pack the Caravan away for the winter. Who knows, if I could convince my wife to do it, we might travel north with the Caravan into the Netherlands one day, but probably too old for that now 😁
The algorithm brought me to your channel. Glad it did! I have to keep the bench mobile, do you have a recommendation on wheel type for best results? Thanks. Awesome bench and awesome shop by the way.
hi. at 7:36 of the video if you look at the y spilt for the dust collection you have this clear white adaptor that you first put in on the blast gate and then at 7:36 you can see you also added what looks like another piece that curves that is the same clear material. What is that and where can i buy that?
Strong work... I have a question about the MDF, is there a problem with it long term regarding temperature and humidity? I know exposing it to water would be a Nono. Is there a special sealer that should be used?
Dennis, great video! I have been enjoying your workbench design now for three years. Not exactly the same, have have the black MDF and a sheet of plywood laminated together without bench dog holes, but might consider a modification since you showed the hole plugs that are magnetic. I feel compelled to buy the plans just to support all your awesome videos, ideas, and clear reviews.
I love the look and functionality (but would be afraid to mark the top😂). My current bench is classic thick top with holdfasts, planing stop, and leg vice. I wonder if I could adjust to your assembly style top? Would love to try your design with the built in router, maybe in my next shop.
Hi Dennis! Great video, just bought your plans and planning on building later this spring, just wondering if there is any alternative for birch ply for the base. Is there any other material that is strong enough?
You may try applying a gel stain to regular MDF. Besides adding color, it also provides a good water barrier and protectant. I’ve used a black gel stain and it looks very good.
One concern I have with MDF worktop is that over time the forces from hold downs and other clamping tools that cause a significant load on the sidewalls of the dog holes, will cause the holes to wear and the precision and accuracy will suffer. I have a thought that I haven't tried yet, but which might be worth exploring. After drilling the dog holes to 20mm go back with a 25mm forstner bit (probably with a drill guide that can be clamped in place to keep the bit centered) and make the holes larger. A jig with a 20mm dowel and a 25mm disk centered on the dowel and screwed or brad nailed to the dowel would allow a circle to be drawn on the worktop to make sure the 25mm hole is centered on the original 20mm. Then tape off the bottoms of the holes and then fill them with epoxy. After the epoxy has set, drill the dog holes to 20mm using the setup jig as if it was the first time drilling the dog holes. The result will be an epoxy lining of 2mm - 2.5mm thick. I would think that would give a much more durable surface. Or maybe it is just good enough to tape off the bottom of the dog holes and then slather thick epoxy on the walls so that the fibers of the MDF soak up as much epoxy as they can hold. Then use the setup jig again to redrill the holes to clean off any epoxy that didn't soak into the MDF or any swelling of the MDF. Do you think that this might be worth doing, or does the MDF hold up just fine and I am just overthinking this?
Simpler to coat the inside of the hole (if it becomes worn) with PVA glue, wait until it sets, and run a 20mm reamer through it. If you want wear resistance, epoxy aluminium sleeves in those that receive wear.
@ After posting this question I had a similar thought. I found that there are seamless aluminum pipes with a 20mm ID and a 25mm OD. Then I could drill out 25mm holes, cut 18mm lengths off the pipe and epoxy them into the 25mm holes. My concern is whether the ID of the pipe is sufficiently uniform to serve as a dog hole liner. Plus I calculated the cost to do this for every dog hole and it is a bit more than I thought it would be. So for now I’ll slather epoxy in the dog holes that get used the most and use a reamer to get the hole back to 20mm. And if some holes still wear and start getting loose, I would think the epoxy trick would work again. Unless of course the top is beat up enough to merit a new one.
@@papparocket If the 20mm id tubing is undersize, the reamer will correct. Personally I use 18mm Baltic ply- not only is it more hard wearing, it is more dimensionally stable (MDF moves with moisture change- and does not fully return).
Hi Dennis sorry to bother you but I’m looking at trying to make your workbench and was wondering would you be able to tell me what the length and width are if possible so I can see if it will fit and also the black material you use on top I don’t know what it’s called so not sure if I can get this in the U.K. another awesome video 👍🏻👍🏻 many thanks steve 👨🏼🦽 P.S. keep up the fantastic work you do 👍🏻👍🏻
As soon as I get my garage finished, I am going to buy these plans for sure! ... And the dust extraction plans, and the drill press table, the miter station... LOL😂.
Hi Dennis, I love the look of this table and think the idea of making it double thickness is great but how do you get round that thickness when you want to use clamps in the dogholes and they won't fit through? What system do you use for this?
Hey Denis. Great work as always. Good to see the little foreman is making sure you’re doing the right work. I’ve two questions when you’ve time. 1) I see you’ve the FELDER scissor table, with a table built on it. Will you be doing a video on that? 2) Do you ever think you’ll get the Shaper. Thanks. 👍
The little foreman, wants to continue the channel :-) so I still have a long way to go. I will do a build video about that, but the problem is, I need to build it again, this one has some flaws that I can not live with. So, when I build that one, I will record it, and place it online. Yes, sometimes I do think of a shaper, but for most of the work, I think a template with my laser works easier. Maybe I will change that view in the future.
Fantastic build Dennis! I bought a set of plans for my own shop, and I'll adapt it for my own space. Any idea what the weight limit might be for the top?
I love the channel and the bench design but I have one question. Is it possible to add an end vise like the Rockler quick release 12" end vise or the Rockler heavy duty quick release front vise? If yes, do you have a video or guidance on how to do it?
I don’t even have the tools to build the bench, but I am a piano technician who needs organization, good workbenches, and woodworking capabilities. I’ll just buy the bundle and see how it goes!
The double thickness of the top seems important, especially when integrating a router table. But what is the best hold-downs to use when standard L-shaped MFT-type hold-downs won't fit in a 36 mm deep hole?
Hello Dennis, great workbench, i think i will build the workbench. In one Video the black MDF looked like polished. Can you tell, how you did this? Merry Christmas!
Hi Dennis, just bought your plans for this wonderful workbench. May I ask you a few questions, which turned up by watching your video? - Do you think it is worth it to buy a nailer for this work, or do you see another simple solution? - Which pocket hole jig would you recommend? Thank you very much for your advice and help! Greetings from Switzerland! daniel
Hi Daniel, I find the Nailer a very nice tool, but you can do perfectly without it. Just be careful with clamping. I would clamp first with not too much pressure, after 2 minutes increase the pressure. I like the Enjoywood that I get from Banggood very much. It is still a bit affordable, but you get a lot for the money. Good Luck!
What i like most of this channel.... Finally a good channel who uses metric there ive said it

@@HookedonWood Good stuff - keep up the good work. You're the only original woodworker on youtube.

Dennis, what's name of black color material?
Fantastic build Dennis! I bought a set of plans for my own shop, and I'll adapt it for my own space. Any idea what the weight limit might be for the top?
How do you organize your screws and what kind of wood screws are you using. What sizes do you always have in shop.?
I love the channel and the bench design but I have one question. Is it possible to add an end vise like the Rockler quick release 12" end vise or the Rockler heavy duty quick release front vise? If yes, do you have a video or guidance on how to do it?
I don’t even have the tools to build the bench, but I am a piano technician who needs organization, good workbenches, and woodworking capabilities.
I’ll just buy the bundle and see how it goes!
We’re do you buy your black mdf? Thank you!
The double thickness of the top seems important, especially when integrating a router table. But what is the best hold-downs to use when standard L-shaped MFT-type hold-downs won't fit in a 36 mm deep hole?
What is the surface area of this bench? Before I purchase plans, I need to know if it will fit in my shop...thanks!
What are you doing to get the grey finish on the draw fronts?
Hello Dennis, great workbench, i think i will build the workbench. In one Video the black MDF looked like polished. Can you tell, how you did this?
Merry Christmas!
I use rubio pute monocoat. That is gives a nice matte finish finish. Sometimes I do the edges two times with some sanding inbetween.
Thank you
Hi Dennis, just bought your plans for this wonderful workbench.
May I ask you a few questions, which turned up by watching your video?
- Do you think it is worth it to buy a nailer for this work, or do you see another simple solution?
- Which pocket hole jig would you recommend?
Thank you very much for your advice and help!
Greetings from Switzerland! daniel
Hi Daniel,
I find the Nailer a very nice tool, but you can do perfectly without it. Just be careful with clamping. I would clamp first with not too much pressure, after 2 minutes increase the pressure. I like the Enjoywood that I get from Banggood very much. It is still a bit affordable, but you get a lot for the money. Good Luck!
@@HookedonWood Many thanks, Dennis, that is very helpful to start this project!
Does someone knows the nailer used at 12:30?
Regards, Jan
Is this top some sort of black plastic or is it black MDF?
Could you please let me know what the dimensions of the table top of this workbench is?
Dennis what finish do you put on your black MDF bench and counter tops?
what is the distance between the dog holes. and what are the dimensions in metric?
20mm holes at 960mm centres.
