6 years later, this video is still helping out old DX7 users. Thanks!

Thank You in 2020, Painless 360. Also just recently got into planes and saw no notes in the manual for throttle hold for my ancient radio. Almost had an incident the other day. So glad your video popped up in 2 seconds via Google. All sorted in a few minutes!!

Very useful - thanks. Since doing this I have added one more mix for some of my electric fixed wing models. It is between AUX2 and throttle (set typically to a rate of -5%). This allows the AUX2 switch to be used like an Idle-up to make sure the motor just keeps turning with the AUX2 switch towards you. Makes approaches a bit easier by avoiding accidentally going dead-stick (with the attendant restart delay) if you throttle back one click too far at the critical moment.

Nice one Bud ! I fly all electric models on a DX7 and find this tip very useful and will now be applying this to all my models. Rgds ~ Eddie.

Good vid and great for the safety aspect cheers! PS I have the old dx7 and think its the best radio spektrum (JR) made!

Thanks so much! Finally learning about Dx7 mixes!, I entered offset -101 and it works fine, as I thought if some systems connected with a lower throttle value they might calibrate throttle off to that setting on power up, making it hard to stop the prop without the hold switch. Maybe that was before Spektrum........

Great tip, thanks. Wish there were something like this on the DX6i, too.

Thanks for the video! Worked perfect on my DX7 using the Blade 200 QX. Without the throttle hold (cut), the only way to cut the motors is to turn down the throttle trim. This is no good in a crash or if you need to cut the motors fast. Once you arm the quad the motors always spin, even at the lowest throttle they spin but not fast enough to lift off.
I'm going to put a link to this video on my web site in my setup guide for the 200 QX.

You should have asked me, I would have told you how to do it on the DX7. Don't think it is possible on the DX6i but it is standard features on the DX8 & 18.

Hi Graham, good to know I've got someone to ask when I'm stumped with the radio. Thanks for the offer - I'll take you up on that next time!
      Cheers.

I was able to configure this onto one of my two planes but had to adjust throttle trim after .But,on the second plane (which has an ESC that requires “arming” by going FULL throttle) I could not get it to work very well.I left the second plane with just the “arming” and not the throttle hold applied.

Sadly, I can find no way of making a similar mix on the Dx6i which is unfortunate in the extreme. I may have to do the mod involving replacing the throttle cut switch of the 6i with a 2 position toggle.

Could you please tell me how you got the switch to be the Gear switch? When I set this up on my radio (new to me), it only works on the Rudder D/R switch. I can't seem to find a way to assign a different switch to this action.

I believe he's using the Mix switch on the top-right of the transmitter, but I can't seem to adjust the top rate in the setup. I can only do the bottom, and the Offset.

For some reason, I can only change the bottom rate, and the offset. The top rate is stuck at +100%. Can someone tell me why? Thanks!

throttle stick must be at greater than 50% to change the upper value

Mine wouldnt allow me to change the bottom to -100 until i set the offset back to 0. Then i Put in the offset back to -125
