  • Welp…we’ve entered the half-boring, half-aggravating half of The New Prophecy. The first half at least had little moments of interest, a level of tension in dangerous situations, and even a couple good moments between characters. That is gone now, in every sense. All that is left is baffling story choices, a fumbling plot, and character relations that range from annoying to anger-inducing.

    I'd also like to mention how no one acknowledges that Mudclaw is Crowfeather's mentor, which should make the conflict all the harder for him to pick sides, especially if Brambleclaw is still the one backing up Firestar, he just travelled with him and we're supposed to believe they're good friends. He probably doesn't think Brambleclaw would lie about this but he also thinks Mudclaw has good leadership potential (maybe showing it through his POV would help so it's not all "this cat is BAD and this cat is GOOD!"). Not to mention not knowing if Firestar is lying about this claim from Crowfeather's POV.
    Edit: maybe if Crowfeather saw Hawkfrost doing shady stuff with Mudclaw and tried to tell Brambleclaw about only for him to get defensive about his brother, that could lead to something more, like "is he bad?" like Brambleclaw accuses everyone of thinking about him.

    • @Sunnyfall
      @Sunnyfall  2 года назад +37

      Exactly. I forgot to mention it but that absolutely should have been a factor. It's amazing how much Crowfeather is sidelined in a book and conflict that should be so deeply personal to him.

    • @TheAshfurApologist
      @TheAshfurApologist 2 года назад +8

      Um mudclaw was planning on killing onestar and his deputy, who was ashfoot, crowfeather's mother. That could realistically influenced his decision to side with onestar.

    • @Sunnyfall
      @Sunnyfall  2 года назад +20

      Certainly, he wouldn't have to come down on Mudclaw's side at all, but seeing his clan split apart and seeing that split led by his mentor who he had trusted and respected could still be deeply emotional for him.

      Crowfeather should've been there when Onewhisker was made leader. It would've added a lot to the conflict. He'd have to choose between doing what he knows is right, and following his mentor.

    With Brambleclaw and his strange "brotherhood" with Hawkfrost, my headcannon was that he missed his sister and any sense of family and Hawkfrost tried taking advantage of that. Like the manipulator he is. It's a headcannon of mine since I can't remember anything of Brambleclaw missing his sister after the first arc. Wish they gave us more Tawnypelt in the first arc instead of pretty much throwing her out with the bath water...

    • @essaytime
      @essaytime 2 года назад +3

      There was one scene when ShadowClan was staying at the Sunningrocks and Brambleclaw was upset because Tawnypelt refused when he asked her to hunt with him. That's all though, I think?

      I also like to believe that Brambleclaw was still somewhat wary of Hawkfrost but continued going to the meetings to try to protect Hawkfrost from Tigerstar’s uncontested influence. I do wish that we had gotten to see them grow somewhat close during the journey to the lake so that they don’t become friends solely because of Tigerstar.

    I love the way you describe the LeafxCrow romance.
    Maybe Leafpool and Crowfeathers "romance" being so over-the-top, cheesy and angsty (even if it was brief), was why child me enjoyed it so much (especially if you have Squilf and Brambleclaw do nothing but argue as a contrast). If my first Warrior Cats roleplay is anything to go by, that was exactly the kind of romance nonsense I gravitated towards. xD

    SunnyFall exhibits a rare understanding of human nature. and articulates analyses with remarkable clarity and insight. The narrator's voice is expressive, beautiful. It is an honor and a privilege to hear these superb accountings of books which mirror the confusion, apparent errors, aspirations, shadows - determination, frustration, triumphs of the human animal.

    Has Brambleclaw to this point had an apprentice? How could he be deputy?

    • @Sunnyfall
      @Sunnyfall  2 года назад +8

      He has not yet had an apprentice, no. He also doesn't get an apprentice in the next two books. About half to two-thirds of the way through Sunset, the final New Prophecy book, he is made deputy despite not having an apprentice mostly because Starclan sent an omen saying that he was a great choice (which I uhhh disagree with, to put it lightly). He was promised Berrykit as his apprentice at that point, but he hadn't even begun the tom's training, thus completely negating the point of the rule.

    Question about the future books in this series: I suspect you will do SEs and novellas when they're released, but what about graphic novels and field guides? I suspect that you'll do graphic novels, considering most of them are relevant to core series events, but will you also do field guides when the time comes?

    • @Sunnyfall
      @Sunnyfall  2 года назад +4

      I am planning to do all the supplementary material, including the guide books, yes. I won't do precisely the same process with the material since the guide books don't have unified stories but they introduced and solidified a lot of the ideas that the fandom still carries today and the series wouldn't be complete without discussing them.

    I think Brambleclaw gets a bit more flack than he deserves from his cumulative appearances. First of all, yes, he does do and say stupid and regretable things A LOT, and should be rightly scrutinized for them, but some of his interactions with Squirrelflight in particular had faults on both sides. In the Hawkfrost situation, evil half-brother or not Hawkfrost was still Brambleclaws brother, and it seems, at least to me, that Brambleclaw was, later on, trying to show Hawkfrost the benefit of the doubt that Thunderclan showed him, naively continuing to do this until finally realizing it was too late and Tigerstar already had a hold on him. Squirrelflight was right to scrutinize their relationship, but she made Brambleclaw aware of her suspicions by essentially insulting his brother to his face. Brambleclaw is bound to get defensive if he says to his friend that he doesn't entirely trust his brother and his friend immediately jumps on the bandwagon and essentially says "Yeah, your brother's up to no good and sucks" right back to him. Also, can we not forget that Squirrelflight literally hooks up with Ashfur in the very next book and parades around with him in front of Brambleclaw just to spite him for disagreeing with her?
    The point being, Brambleclaw is a deeply flawed person, that much is very true, but Squrrelflight isn't always the angel she's made out to be either. There's blame on both sides (Except in Squirrelflight's Hope)

    • @true_lovers_knot
      @true_lovers_knot 2 года назад +1

      squirrelflight never “hooked up” with ashfur to spite brambleclaw, she was genuinely considering him as a mate. i guess making him jealous was a bonus. of course she isn’t a perfect little angel and she does have her flaws, nobody truly believes that! but in her relationship with brambleclaw she is a victim! it doesn’t matter if she’s flawed, brambleclaw’s much worse to her. the fact that she’s confrontational doesn’t make her any more deserving of mistreatment.

    • @true_lovers_knot
      @true_lovers_knot 2 года назад +1

      i personally don’t even get why squirrelflight was so wrong telling brambleclaw his *half-brother* is not a good cat if she isn’t even trying to start anything and instead just trying to warn him. hawkfrost was evil, and brambleclaw never listened to a word she said!! he wants to believe he’s always right and will do anything to make sure he LOOKS right

    • @asaschuemann9545
      @asaschuemann9545 2 года назад +2

      @@true_lovers_knot In my opinion, she wasn't wrong in her suspicions, Hawkfrost was a bad dude, however, she poked Brambleclaw a bit too hard about it and about the similarities Hawkfrost shared with Tigerstar, which made Brambleclaw feel like he was under attack too due to sharing kinship with Hawkfrost. They felt so similar that when Brambleclaw heard Squirrelflight criticizing his half-brother, he was left to wonder whether she might start levying those same barbed comments at him next. Was it stupid of him? Yes. Was it a bit irrational? Also yes. Was is relatable to how a person like him might act in real life, yes to a degree I'd say.
      I'm not knocking on Squirrelflight for the fun of it, or at least not intending to. Her ideas were good, execution was iffy and both her and Brambleclaw were bad communicators. That's mostly all I was and still am saying. I'm sorry if this offended.

      Brambleclaw have a right to meet his brother, like everyone else . Speckletail died, snowkit died, smallear died, and he didn't have kins around him all the time. His mother is in the elder den, and her sister has left. What do you wanted him to do? just allow squirrelflight to break a bond that he could have.
      Are you just trying to cause trouble?” [Squirrelflight] hissed. “You took the side of that… that mangy furball instead of mine!”
      - Starlight, pg. 232
      If Brambleclaw/star did this toward Squirrelflight and Half-sibling, people are gonna be pissed at him. You guys never look at both sides, and how they would feel. /nm /srs
