- Midnight is…certainly very different from anything the first arc had to offer. Besides the more obvious differences like Brambleclaw being a different character from Bramblepaw immediately or the cast consisting of seven cats and two point of view characters, rather than just Fireheart, there is also a shift in the style of the story they’re telling. The first half of the book was setup, and as such it got to be similar to the first arc’s plot-driven storytelling with personal interactions on the side. However the second half, during the journey to the sun-drowned place and Leafpaw…just being at home, with Cinderpelt and sometimes Mothwing, it was all mundane social interactions. Whether or not you like that is a matter of personal taste, and it’s not quite as bland as it could have been…but the rest of the arc would have been far better if some true development and relationships were established during this completely free time.
Side note: on account of nothing actually…happening during their interactions, I didn’t speak much about Leafpaw and Mothwing. But know that in this book she seems very eager to learn about Starclan and become a medicine cat, and doesn’t know yet that the dreams she is having aren’t the ones she should be having. Also, they are very cute together as friends, with Leafpaw encouraging her as she steps into her new role.

Thank you to DuplexBeGreat and Lightflame for compiling the line-counts for the series I used in calculating this book’s statistics.
And this, ladies and gentlemen and enby friends, is why Crowpaw should have been the protagonist of Midnight.
Yess
Do Tenelle's version
"Getting stuck in fences" Squirrelflight not knowing whether to be hissing or laughing
I read Midnight again recently, and wow, I didn't remember Leafpaw fangirling so much over Mothwing lol. I can really see where the fans of their ship are coming from, now.
I feel like you're letting yourself be influenced by future books a little too much when you talk about Brambleclaw. His decisions are generally pretty good; he also clearly grows to appreciate Squirrelpaw's energy and ideas, and to a much lesser extent Crowpaw's-let's face it, he opposes everyone else's suggestions just for the sake of it 99% of the time.
13:06 Yes, that's so absurd. The traveling only actually starts at about 70% of the books, and half of the remaining chapters are for Leafpaw. They have only been traveling for like two weeks, in reality, and we the readers only get a tiny fraction of it.
13:30 True. The fire/tiger subplot is completely pointless. Squirrelpaw would have gone with the group regardless, her few arguments with Firestar don't change her decision, ultimately.
I don’t read these books anymore but I’m loving your breakdowns of them they are super fun to watch!
Same :)
Same here!
@@sillybillybear50 why? That’s kinda strange… (no offence, just curios)
@@thepurplepaw2231
There’s over 80 books in the series. Some people can’t keep up with that (especially since the books are kind of a mess and many people fell out of the series due to low quality. Myself being one of them).
@@Moony1568
1. If you don’t read the books, how can you call them a mess? Never judge a book by it’s cover.
2. You dob’t need to read every book to be in touch with the series. There are plenty of prequels in the series that are unimportant.
3. You can always take a break from reading the series if you feel overwhelmed.
4. If you don’t read the books anymore, why on earth are you still in the fandom?
I loved the 2nd arc and didn’t find it boring and enjoyed the 2nd half
i REALLY don’t think that this is a bad series. I think it’s one of the best

Me: HOLY (censored for the children), TRIP THROUGH TIMEEEE!!
Edit: But nostalgia, though? Midnight was my first Warriors book, I understood none of it and adored it nonetheless, maybe because seven-year-old me didn't mind how much of a book about cats I understood.
same here, I know it gets a lot of flack nowadays but TNP is my favorite arc, I read it altogether without even knowing there was a first arc hahaha
You wouldn’t know there was another arc, because they can’t go 10 seconds without explaining something that was revealed in the first arc.
@@rileyywhited That is one of the pet peeves I have with Warriors. The constant retelling of events you've already read. And sometimes they even get it wrong
Its like, grr I've already read this a hundred times, don't tell it back to me like i'm a brainless infant
Exactly! But then again, every book series I’ve ever read does this, so I guess it’s just a general pet peeve, than one specific to Warriors
@@rileyywhited Yeah, I hate it *so much*. I don't mind it as much in other books because A, they usually get it right and don't spend three chapters worth on it, and B, usually only do it every couple of books or so, or after a long wait for said book in case you forgot the events.
Warriors...doesn't do that. I think it's partially just to fill chapters and they just go back and fill it in after finishing the book, considering how out of place they often feel.
I may not have liked the main protagonists of this arc but after reading PoT, OotS and hearing about the latest arcs, I look back on them fondly
Tbh the New prophecy is the only arc I haven't re-read at least twice-
I started Warriors here as I didn't know what the first series was and a video on Feathertail's death made me get both Midnight and Moonrise which made me a fan ever since.
Bramblepaw's growth info brambleclaw is realistic. He was treated horribly by the clan, sometimes trauma will not hit you soon as it does but it can effect ur adulthood
I'm new to your channel and really enjoying you videos! It's honestly really interesting how the series grows with each book. And I love your sunny spiels too! Can't wait for Light in the Mist to come out.
I really enjoy the way you discuss topics surrounding warrior cats. I've been watching your videos the past few days, and I'm impressed. Keep up the good work :)
Purdy is the best. This is indisputable.
Great foundation for subsequent "trip through time.
Upon my most recent re-read of Midnight I did think Leafpaw was a little unique right from the get-go in that she is EXTREMELY anxious and sensitive. More so than Fireheart was in TPB and he was already fairly anxious. Compared to later protagonists (especially medicine cat protags) Leafpaw’s anxiety doesn’t stand out that much but it was something that did stand out to me right away because she did seem far more anxious than the rest of the main cast despite having the least-dangerous role of the cast.
It doesn’t seem like a detail that’s a big deal now but I do think it does help explain a lot of Leafpool’s character in the later books of this arc and future arcs. A seemingly genetic predisposition to chronic anxiety and additional likelihood of developing PTSD combined with spending most of her adolescence on the verge of starvation also probably doesn’t help calm the nerves. Poor Leafpool never felt a moment of peace.
You forgot to mention that Willowpelt died between The darkest hour and Midnight
Happy to see us going into the next arc!
Excellent video, as always
I recently finished reading the first arc and now I’m starting the second. Because of this I like both Bramblepaw and Brambleclaw personalities but I wish the authors had at least given more reasoning as to why Bramble changed so much from 1st to 2nd arc. Btw Love trip through time! Following it after every book I finish!
2nd arc is my second favorite from the 1st arc!
The POV characters swapping around made me really dislike this book after the first arc was entirely told through one POV (and frankly I still prefer just one POV but it's clear we're never going back to that). Plus Brambleclaw being nothing like baby Bramble from the first series. I did like having more female characters with agency though, that was really nice. I will agree that starting here is where StarClan felt way less like mystical religious figures and more just 'alright, now that the cats are dead there are extra steps they have to take to talk to their living counterparts'.
I liked the changing povs a lot (then again, I'm more of a WoF fan than a WC fan) because the first arc just got me so tired of Firestar/Fireheart's boring perspective
Ah yes, my first Warriors book that I ever read
Unpopular opinion but I LOVE TNP AND HAVE NO CLUE WHY
Could you make a video comparing Starclan to real world religions? Thanks and God bless!
She’s much kinder to this book than I was lol I couldn’t stand the constant arguing. I wanted to throw all of the Tom cats off a cliff and keep the she-cats. Tawnypelt and Feathertail work together surprisingly well. Crowpaw desperately needed a POV part to level him out. As it is he’s just a jerk, constantly.
Midnight is my least favorite main series warrior book.
4:04 Correction: Midnight is not a she-cat. She’s a badger, not a cat
I think they meant that Midnight is a female character.
