Make sure you catch our other video showing these same two pilots cruising over the Grand Canyon in their F-4s! ruclips.net/video/uAPJBCwgMII/видео.html
I used to help launch and recover F4J's and other aircraft when I was a member of the flight deck crew onboard the USS Independence, CV-62 from 74-77. When I was below deck you could always identify the Phantom when it hit the flight deck, it sounded like a crash and not a landing, the pilots were amazing. The Phantom is my all time favorite fighter because it did everything it wasn't designed to do.
It's always a pleasure watch and listen a F-4 Phantom roaring like this. I'm brazilian and I always will be grateful to the americans for preserve their own history. I hope one day I can have the possibility to visit this amazing country and this superb airshow!
We had F4s when I was in Marines in the late 60s. Two huge J-79 engines that would make the ground shake like an earthquake when they took off with full afterburner. All the pilots were in their 20s and had at least one combat tour in Vietnam.
I was present at a "fly out" (goodby to F4F) and they went through the full alert procedure and had them loaded up one last time. The earth shook, the air vibrated and the "prancing unicorn" Eurofighters where hiding in shame and terror
the best A/C I loved/hated working on. Nothing like being upside down in the cockpit for 5 hrs straight. Getting the instruments smashed into your face. Love this bird.
They are serving a purpose like the F-106, F-100, and F-102 did before them. Making sure our current pilot's skills are sharp when doing weapons employment.
Absolutely...but the cost and regulations are beyond the pale! Shame the younger generation for the most part just don't care and see them as noisy ozone depleting machines...not that the MSM has had anything to do with that! Ya can't have a tomorrow without a yesterday, as they say...I know here in Australia the flight crews loved the Phantom which was flown while we waited for the F111s. An awesome video and great to see it on RUclips!
Is it just Me or does knowing the last few of these are going to be blown from the sky seam criminal and bring a tear to the eye ? I do know there are others being saved from destruction in the world but it still seams sad. Goodbye You beautiful beast's.
God but I love the Phantom. And the view from that cockpit is one of the biggest reasons I joined Air Force ROTC back in ‘84. Summer of my 2nd year I took a lacrosse ball to my right eye and that was that. Don’t know if I’d have made it to fighters or not, but that’s life.
This brought a huge smile to my face within the first second. This was the Nation's primary fighter when I was born, and I was surrounded by them flying unrestricted flight profiles over and around our homes at the time from Edwards and George AFB.
I was a USAF crew chief on F-4Cs and got to fly once in the back seat on a gunnery range mission while TDY in SardiniaFantastic would be an understatementPhantoms Pforever !
True. Neither of these 2 arrivals belong to Collings. Last year, on my B-Day my wife and I booked seats on a flight aboard the Collings Huey out of DAL. Great fun!
See something front and center on the panel I wish we had in Viet Nam a GPS scrolling map :) :) Don't know how many times we popped out after flying thru mountains and valleys and said "where the heII are we, where is home from here".
Flying thru valleys where you are changing direction every few seconds, for even 20 minutes, to try and not get dead doesn't give you time to even write down a heading let alone compute it.
@John S Read John Trotti's _Phantom Over Vietnam_ and it might cure you of your wish. I'm almost finished with my second reading of it, 30 years apart. Great book, sobering story.
Got a ride in a Seymour Johnson F-4 Wild Weasel at Myrtle Beach AFB in the mid 80's. They shut the runway down at Seymour Johnson for a few months for resurfacing...shipped the aircraft down to Myrtle Beach AFB. That was an AWESOME experience.
!NICE! N.A.S. Mirmar, 70-74, ETR-2, maintained GCA RADAR and TACAN. Got to see hundreds of Phantom II's Skyhawks, Crusaders, and others. C-5 landed there once, as did the prez. B-47 believe it or not passed through there, as well as at least one Blackbird, and U-2. The Blue Angels were in F-4's while I was at Miramar
I was there, too. 1968. AC-2 (Air Traffic Controller) TAD from San Clemente Island (KSCI) for 1 weeks training at RATCC #9, NAS Miramar. Later at Los Alamitos I took a ride in an F-4. Acted as RIO, dog fighting, low level, etc, with a reserve pilot building time. A real thrill. On the way back, pilot cranked it up. 1,000 mph indicated a sea level. Wonder what the burn rate was for that :) My 1st impression of the F-4: It feels “alive.” Best sound? Shreik from the intakes when throttling for taxi. My favorite aircraft.
during an alert in the early 1970s I was fortunate to be launching these beasts out 8 at a time directly off the runway. full AB at midnight! what a thrill. still nothing like it.
That modern NAV display probably takes care of most of that old instrumentation - but I'd like to have seen more of those old dials! And amazing how the FOV has changed over the years; those big ribs in the front canopy is nuts.
where would one be saved from though? they are all probably scrapped or in museums. by save do you mean restore to airworthiness, if so then that would be good
The Collins Foundation was looking to get one from the Air Force, but some douche-nozzle didn't want them to have it, so they has some techs destroy important structural pieces on it to guarantee it stay unairworthy.
fun fact my cousin who's a plane mechanic for the air force and has a few back seat flight hours himself, said that the real thing is actually easier than a simulator because you have vastly better awareness of your situation at all times and far more precise controls
More more more please. Will always and forever love the mighty Fhantoms. This HD video from on board a St Louis slugger is not that common so please more more. From your Fhamtom frantic from DownUnda...
I bought a sweet 1:48 F4J model after seeing a 4 ship fly in from Syracuse for an air show when I was a kid. Was amazed by the noise! Months later I simulated a cat launch by stuffing a B model rocket engine in that F4! Flew pretty stable horizontally for about 25ft until the fence in our yard got in its way! That got Ma’s attention! Nowadays I would have a tiny camera in that thing! I love that kind of stuff Lol.
I didn't realize how easy the gear lever moved. I always assumed it had some decent resistance to it, like you were actually moving the gears to open the doors.
I wish that the YF- 23 was called the F-4 Phantom III since the F-4 Phantom II did a nice job in the Military, but did not get as many years as it could have. Oh well it is still an Aircraft to remember, in it's history of service.
The Phantom and the Thunderchief are my favorite airplanes from that era. Pity we don't fund a USAF heritage flight or some such the way the Brits do. Still, there are the museums and gate guards to evoke memories from those who served with them and spark the imagination of the next generation.
The first person who briefed me on Atheism was a Decorated Veteran and a Combat Flight Instructor of this plane ( when i was a small child ).He held my head between his hands , looked directly into my eyes and said " There is no higher authority than you on the soil , over the sea and up on the sky " he shook my head a bit and said " Are you receiving that " The Only thing i was able to say was " Yes , Sir " till from that day I am a free man..
Never got to fly them. My first WesPac we DID have a dummy aboard the Ranger for the flight deck crew to practice their handling/rescue/firefighting though. The cockpit of the F-14 is very similar to that of the F4...as is the seat.
What is that smoke at 9:18 and later ? Very fortunate to have the helmet cam. Thanks for posting. The shut down noise is awesome - wish we could hear it all! I was there but did not see these fly. Saw one on static display near the C5A and the Coast Guard set up.
If I was given a choice between a huge gulfstream or the F4 it would be the F4. How it must feel to own one and be able to fly it. Can't imagine how youd find people to maintain such a beast. Maintain the old ejection seats, finding parts etc.
Its rolling prairie cow pastures and green green grass everywhere , and corn fields for the cow feed , it's a dairy farm state , where there's corn theres also , deer , that's right huge populations of deer all over the place , because of so much corn , deer are an epidemic and they have a longer hunting season to try to curb the population, I lived near Osh Kosh , Wisconsin is a great place to live
Spent much happy time in that front seat, as a plane captain riding breaks. As safe as that may seem, on a pitching carrier deck, it increases your pucker factor about a thousand lbs per square inch.
When I was young I used to hear those taking off all the time from the airbase. Loud as crap! Sometimes they would rattle the windows pretty good when they would do a low flyby. I think they did it on purpose to keep us on our toes or maybe keep us from getting a good nights sleep.
Actually JP5, and smoking until the dash ten J79, then we had carbonized nodules that could FOD the burner cans. The dash 8 greasy black smoke giveaway might have been preferable. But all in, duly notable as the predominant ‘nam workhorse (apologies to the Thuds) and a distinctly manly aircraft. Kudos to James McDonnell for risking his company, he gave us the best “get you home” bird ever to populate a flight deck
Yes, I forgot that the point of watermarking was to put a giant invasive block of text on the video, thereby ruining it and not to place a subtle marker so as to make the video identifiable as yours if the need arises. 😐
What caused the smoke up by the nose after landing, while taxiing to the back of the apron? I was trying to make some mental gymnastic guesses but all I could think of was - some ducted exhaust being routed up front to clear debris from the nose wheel brakes? I know the Phantom was notorious for being a bit Smokey but that was fresh blue smoke, not cloudy sooty smoke. What caused that?
As of 2019, unfortunately, Iran still uses the F4. The USA doesn’t “produce” parts for the F4 anymore. If any parts are needed they’re removed from out of service F4s parked out in the desert at Davis Monthan AFB.
The mighty F-4! So cool. The canopy top was so clear it looked like it wasn't there! What's the normal landing speed on an F-4? Seems like he was going very quickly. Also, I see why it tends to be very windy there being so close to the lake! Thanks for another great video!

AirshowStuffVideos I love that airplane, i used to refule them .
AirshowStuffVideos Are private owners allowed to activate the afterburners over inhabited areas??
Sure, warbird pilots do it all the time. These were in active service at the time this was filmed though.
One of the greatest jets ever!

Unfortunately you won't be able to see the F4. These ones were used for target practice a few months later.
We had F4s when I was in Marines in the late 60s. Two huge J-79 engines that would make the ground shake like an earthquake when they took off with full afterburner. All the pilots were in their 20s and had at least one combat tour in Vietnam.
Tom Davison : Yes sir, accepted (Col. Robin Olds)
I was present at a "fly out" (goodby to F4F) and they went through the full alert procedure and had them loaded up one last time. The earth shook, the air vibrated and the "prancing unicorn" Eurofighters where hiding in shame and terror
Amazing contrast between the noise inside the cockpit and what it sounds like on the outside.
A high def F-4 video. That's what I'm talking about!
Thankyou, very nostalgic, I flew F4Es for about four years in the early seventies, fabulous aeroplane, strange life when I think back on it.
the best A/C I loved/hated working on. Nothing like being upside down in the cockpit for 5 hrs straight. Getting the instruments smashed into your face. Love this bird.
Should keep a few of these flying for airshows instead of destroying history completely
That is what should be done. Luckily the Collings Foundation is operating one.
or give one to me
They are serving a purpose like the F-106, F-100, and F-102 did before them. Making sure our current pilot's skills are sharp when doing weapons employment.
True but doesn't mean we should destroy em all, we have drones use them for weapons tests
Absolutely...but the cost and regulations are beyond the pale! Such an amazing piece of flying history, serving until it's bitter end.

dieselrotor There is a Privately owned one in Riverside County being restored to full flying status! I imagine it will be very popular
Loudest, and most awesome plane I have seen at any Air Show. I love the Phantom. Great video!
Beautiful bird, iconic in every way, love those two big fat smoking J79's.
Seriously, people gave a thumbs down to this?! They gotta be outta there minds. Nothing but pure awesomeness and power right there people!
love to see this old vietnam bird still flying. great engineering. great video & thanks
one of my all time faves the smoky old F4!
This brought a huge smile to my face within the first second. This was the Nation's primary fighter when I was born, and I was surrounded by them flying unrestricted flight profiles over and around our homes at the time from Edwards and George AFB.
I’ve been waiting for a cockpit video of an F4 like this! Love it!!!!!!
I was a USAF crew chief on F-4Cs and got to fly once in the back seat on a gunnery range mission while TDY in SardiniaFantastic would be an understatementPhantoms Pforever !
Now, THAT is the way to arrive in style at AirVenture! Smithsonian Air Force RULES!!!
Collings Foundation has one and if I'm correct last I checked they do rides as well as theyre F-100
True. Neither of these 2 arrivals belong to Collings. Last year, on my B-Day my wife and I booked seats on a flight aboard the Collings Huey out of DAL. Great fun!
I have stick time in the Collings Foundation UH-1E "Klondike 7"
Always loved the F-4s. Great video.
This is such an amazing video, especially for Phantom Phans!
Thank you so much for posting.
Outstanding! I've always loved the Phantom.
See something front and center on the panel I wish we had in Viet Nam a GPS scrolling map :) :) Don't know how many times we popped out after flying thru mountains and valleys and said "where the heII are we, where is home from here".
They didn't teach ya'll dead reckoning huh?
Flying thru valleys where you are changing direction every few seconds, for even 20 minutes, to try and not get dead doesn't give you time to even write down a heading let alone compute it.
Grant Tabor My Dad flew F-4’s in Nam too!
Grant Tabor I could sit around listening to the stories you have to tell. Thanks for your service. GOD bless all the veterans.
@John S Read John Trotti's _Phantom Over Vietnam_ and it might cure you of your wish. I'm almost finished with my second reading of it, 30 years apart. Great book, sobering story.
Outstanding video! Always wondered how it looked like from the pilot's point of view. Guarded F-4E's at Taegu, Korea, 497th TFS, '83.
Jet Mechanic with VF-102 out of Oceana and a cruise on The USS Independence.. Took 1-ride, I believe it was 1974, and I still have a smile on my face
My Dad flew these in Nam and later at VX-5... so cool to see a Cockpit view
thanks, that was breathtaking!
I love F-4 II it's an amazing machine.
Something about the old jets hits different. The f4, f14, mig21, mig23. Their cockpits feel so comfortable, the planes look amazing.
I was there, they seemed a lot lower in real life! Keep 'em flying.
!NICE! N.A.S. Mirmar, 70-74, ETR-2, maintained GCA RADAR and TACAN. Got to see hundreds of Phantom II's Skyhawks, Crusaders, and others. C-5 landed there once, as did the prez. Now if some one can man up and save an F-105 that would be epic.
an f105 thundercheif? they have been out of service for decades. do you mean F4?
+RCFlightReviews I mean an f-105 they were important planes of the cold war.

Love the Anhedral and dihedral wings/horizontal stabilizers!
was a crew chief at the close of Nam on F-4D's. Miss the hogs. long live the 49th OMS!!!
Phabulous Phantom, awesome aircraft.
Oh, I do love the phabulous sound of a Phantom. ❤❤❤
fun fact
my cousin who's a plane mechanic for the air force and has a few back seat flight hours himself, said that the real thing is actually easier than a simulator because you have vastly better awareness of your situation at all times and far more precise controls
I spent a lot of time in that seat as MMS #4 man checking fire to the weapon stations. Great memories.
Awesome video. What a dream to fly that plane.
Talk about a ride along. That was amazing.
Great footage! Thank you for sharing.

The legendary Phantom II 🤙
Super cool to watch this flight and landing from helmet view

Condensation coming from the air conditioning.
Beautiful lands to fly over
Legend of a plane 👍✈️🇳🇿
still my favorite fighter
Very good video ! Great landing !
love the f4,been in many cockpits.
Me too. Made my living for years in those cockpits.
I just want to let you know, someone put a piece of modern-day technology in that cockpit.
If I was given a choice between a huge gulfstream or the F4 it would be the F4. How it must feel to own one and be able to fly it.
Can't imagine how youd find people to maintain such a beast. Maintain the old ejection seats, finding parts etc.
73-1670 and 74-1638 scheduled for destruction 7/31/16 at Tyndall AFB. Last 2 airworthy QF-4s in USAF inventory.
Nice video. Wisconsin is beautiful ( never been there ).

Hey do you ever take anyone up in the back seat??? and if so how much a flight?????
F4 Phantom.....best way to turn JP4 into noise and smoke!!

Fantastic!!!
The visibility is not horrible but would imagine it’s not the greatest in combat situations
how badass are you rolling up to oskkosh in an F-4.... Be like "yeap... Just decided take the old bird out for a spin!" lol
Those F-4's never had HUD units on the dash?
Always have and will be an asset to any air force with properly trained crew. They eat fuel at an alarming rate but they do kick ass.
What caused the smoke up by the nose after landing, while taxiing to the back of the apron? Israel isn't using the F-4 neither, it has been removed many years ago already. In fact Israel is already using the F-35...
impresionante video ,se escucha bien cuando modifica la potencia de las turbinas para mantener speed control.
Nice carrier landing! Must be an ex-Navy jock.
Noticed that too. As they used to say: flare to land - squat to pee
noticed that as well, that landing was a bit too hard I suppose
@@MemphisBelle291 my thoughts as well ...
...With All Honesty I WILL Cry When the LAST PHANTOM is Gone....
Saw F-4s decades ago in SE Asia; always thought they were meanest SOB aircraft ever.
lol, good one.
I used to work on those,well done !! 🍺 😎 👍
Great video, thanks for not adding stupid music! :o)
an awesome aircraft - thank you
that moment when you watch a real flight and to your mind comes: "wow, awesome graphics"
The mighty F-4! So cool. The canopy top was so clear it looked like it wasn't there! What's the normal landing speed on an F-4? Seems like he was going very quickly. Also, I see why it tends to be very windy there being so close to the lake!
Thanks for another great video!
"mommy, what's that big thing in the sky?"
Now that i'm old "sign me up i wanna fly"
"but not yet"
a great phlight in the phabolous Phantom, thank you.
Great video, just wish it had audio of pilot / control tower......
Amazing to see how FLAT the earth is. :P
Hey! Is that a Garmin Nuvi? (i'm just kidding) It's such a joy to see this bird in flight from the jockey's perspective.
That sound! Wow.... Reminds me of the MiG-21 Bis in DCS World Flight Simulator... Lol
Loved it thanks for sharing
You need a long runway for the F-4
Sounds good to me !!
Wow that was beautiful !! :)
Good stuff! LOVE IT!
This vid is very cool!!
