My C&P Examiner told me, in an amazed voice, "Wow, you're on a lot of high blood pressure medicine." I responded, "Yes, because I have very high, high blood pressure." They awarded me a whopping 10%.

So basically it’s not worth anything unless your technically dead mine is high. But nothing like what your saying

Yes, so apparently you must be a walking stroke victim to get compensation. I go to Mayo Clinic. Their definition of high blood pressure is not the VA's definition. Ridiculous

What about cases where the veteran is already on medication to reduce their blood pressure? How does the exam work then? Wouldn’t (shouldn’t) the rating be based on how the condition is WITHOUT medication? If so, what good does it do to take readings at a C&P exam? If not, what is the point of taking readings at a C&P if medicine has it under control?

This seems to be the paradox, doesn't it?
Hypothetically, if we consider that I had been fully compliant with my hypertension treatment and it had been fully controlled, it raises the question of whether the severity of my hypertension would have ever come to light. In such a scenario, how would I have been aware of the need to file a disability claim, let alone meet the eligibility criteria for it?
If maintained strict compliance with my hypertension treatment, this would pose an interesting dilemma. If I had adhered to the treatment regimen all along, there might have been no documented evidence of the benchmarked systolic/diastolic pressures that the VA requires for a proven disability claim. In essence, it appears that non-compliance could lead to denial, creating a paradoxical situation. So the real question is how this potential contradiction is addressed in the disability claims process... I have seen evidence in appeal cases where it had been denied to a veteran who at times was non compliant.
So yes, let us waste time taking our BP in the C&P exam with a normal reading while on 4 medications and see the result as being with in compliance of normal. Let's do it on 2 other separate days as well so the VA rater can say that the veterans BP does not meet the criteria: DENIED.
Sounds like a setup to fail.

This is a case file. Veteran only had one reading that was high then went on meds. After it went to trial, the case was concluded with reasonable doubts resolved in favor of the veteran. He won a 10% rating.

Just had one done. Three blood pressure reading. They will take the highest reading and that reading will give you your VA rating. Now just sit and wait for your rating results.

I have hypertension and both location and hypertension are considered presumptive. I was denied service connection. What should I do?

You need a "nexus" letter from a doctor and get your own doctor or pay for a Disability Benefits Questionaire to be filled out by "your" doctor. If you are within one year of "denial" you can file a supplemental claim with this "additional" evidence. It's gets sticky... most Vets should hire a lawyer or get a Veteran's Service Officer at a minimum to assist with all the beaurocratic nonsense.

Hello. I have Sys ranges (135-150) & Dia Ranges (95-125)
    3 readings 110-120 (Dia)
    1 Reading 120+ (Dia)
All recorded over a week & 5 mins apart. What percentage could I qualify for?

Are you kidding me, so you got to be near dead with those high rating just to get a measly 10%? I dont think he is correct, because if google what the VA rates you there is a rating for Level 1, Level 2 and 3, and its not no 160/100?

    Vietnam veterans zero percent.

I did receive 10% but no compensation for it. I am on 3 meds to control it. Appealing because I have proven that I belong in the higher rating. VA calculator is not what you think. Look up hypertension in the 38 cfr ratings. Then appeal the decision if you think you qualify for a higher rating.
Obviously you were in nam, so do you have any other problems, skin, diabetes, etc.? There is a list of things that are presumptive so I hope you learn what they are if you don't know already. Don't give up! I too am a Vietnam vet, 70/71.
