  • Install this super strong shade sail from Amazon with No Sag. This shade sail has a built in reinforcing / reinforcement cable along the edge which lets you tighten the sail so there is absolutely no sag. I used 316 marine grade stainless steel hardware and I purchased it all fromAmazon. (Links below)
Right after I installed the shade sail Tropical Storm Laura came through with 45 knot gusts and the shade sails barely moved.
If you want a heavy duty shade sail with reinforced cable and D rings, look no further.
The key to getting this to look good is finding a sail with a cable ring. I found two on Amazon, but they are less common then you would think.
The next most import part is purchasing some quality rigging material. I used Marine Grade Stainless Steel (316) to prevent corrosion, but I live by the water, so you could get away with galvanized or even nickel coated if you don’t live by the ocean.
The biggest tip is to measure everything before you order your shade and be creative in your connection points. I found this shade, which was a standard size (16 x 16 x 16 feet) and was on sale. The custom shades can get very expensive, but try to find a size that is common and in stock to save a lot of $$$.
Also, very important is to grease your turn buckles with white lithium grease before you start to put the shade up to prevent from binding.

It's been 3 years and the shade sail is still in perfect order and has been through many high wind tropical storms. I have taken it down when we get hurricane winds, but other than that, it's always up. It's also a good protection net when laying in the hammock in case a coconut or palm frond accidentally falls from the tree.

Tropical Storm Laura passed today and this Shade Sail made it through 45 mile per hours winds with no problems.

I am looking for ideas to quickly release the shade sail when needed. Did you end up keeping the "snap links" referenced in your video? Do you have a link to the snap link?

How did you determine your heights for mounting? What are your mounting heights? I have a gazebo at 9' for one side anchor points. I would sink a 2" EMT post(s) in a flower bed for others, undecided the height i need to posts.

How has the Tang sail cloth weathered after 2yrs.
how would you rate it 1-10

The Tang Sail cloth has lasted now for around 3 years and its doing well. It's smaller and doesn't have a ton of tension on it. I have another larger 21' x 21' x 21' shade sail (ColourTree Super Ring) with a cable that is similar to the Tang brand and the fabric started deteriorating right at the 3 year mark. But the larger sail catches a lot more wind during storms and I believe the winds of 45 -50 miles per hour takes a toll on the fabric after 2.5 - 3 years. However, I would buy the Tang Brand and the ColourTree Brand again in a heart beat. I bought them both from Amazon.

Hi, thanks for the comment. What do you recommend as a good substitute? I need something that has high strength and won’t erode with a lot of sunlight. All of the hardware is rated to at least the 1,000 lbs breaking strength or higher as the winds here get very strong. We just had another tropical storm last week with gusts up to 70 mph and the shade was perfect. Thanks
