Whelen WPS-2803 & Modulator 3012-B Test | Carnation, WA (4/19/23)

►Today was one to remember forever folks! I had today off, so it was only fitting for me to pay another visit to Carnation to check out the Tolt Dam siren test. For today's test I went to siren site #1. I got much more than I bargained for! The analog Whelen did its routine test as I expected. The fun started less than a minute after it shut off. The Modulator activated for a voice message followed by a custom tone based off the analog Whelens! The is the first I've ever heard something like this! The audio was recorded off the GoPro Hero 11 since I stupidly hit the record button again on my Tascam DR-40. Not too bad for a GoPro mic. At the end of the Modulator test, the FSK activation can be heard from its radio cabinet. My plan is to come back out here next week to record siren #2, then possibly record siren #3 the first week of May. By then, I would have recorded the entire old Tolt Dam system. Enjoy!

Stay tuned for another upload in the coming days! I recorded an ambience between these sirens and the other nearby duo about 3/4 mile away. Needless to say the ambience blows this out of the water!

My camera is so bad that it makes it hard to even tell what color the siren even is (when I zoom, at least.)

A video of these two to start off the dual tests, and another to end off the dual tests. I will miss the Whelen system a lot now that they deactivated it, and will be removing them soon, as their the sirens that got me into sirens in the first place... quite sad to see them go, goodbye to our great 2800's. and to be honest. they really should change them to the stock tones as 700hz is kinda quite on UV.

The Modulator is trying to be a Whelen. All they need to do now is paint the Modulator black and let the wail cycle run continuously instead of interrupting each cycle with a voice message.

@@YonveClydeBauzon uhhhh I know it happened already I posted that comment 7 months ago, theres an 8032-B at 60th St and SR 203 and another Modulator at Tolt Mac-Donald park but I haven't been there to check out what type it is but it's likely an 8032-B, and the siren at Tolt River Rd I already recorded but it was recently relocated to where ever the Carnation Public Work Yard is, which is likely just the empty grass space next to the City f Carnation building, since the Public Works is a division of the City Of Carnations City Hall I believe.
I already recorded the 8032-B at 60th St and SR 203 this week. you can hear multiple other sirens in the background. and I heard one that sounded like it came from the direction of the City of Carnation Building.
Didn’t Puyallup still have some 2803’s up until 2020?

The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't.
In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was.
The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error

6024-B is active I finally heard it today after the 2808 :D it was also way quieter than the 2808..

@@tornadof25 Uh what that means is that the 2808 is more powerful, so it would obviously be louder than the 6024.

Why are two speaker sirens right next to eachother?
One will be replacing the other.

also, can anyone explain why there is a federal signal next to a whelen ?
The Federal Signal is the replacement for the Whelen. The Whelen is now inactive. These sirens were tested simultaneously for quite some time so the Whelens could be used as a backup if needed.

the main reason I love living in Snoqualmie valley is because of this one system, that sadly isn't audible from my house just a mile up the valley... but anyways I hope to get one of those 2803's soon or at least the controller for one just because I love the wail tone on them tbh it's my favorite Whelen Controllers too. and one last thing I heard the 6024-B March 24th and they Manually tested it the same way the Whelens test ( btw they just press a big red button to test the system XD ) I also rlly hope the Whelens will be active with the Mods over my Summer Break ( Sadly I have to wait till late June :/ ) but then I'd be able to get my own Dual recording :D. or maybe I could try to get 4th period on a Wednesday off.. idk but I hope I can!

What’s the difference between a 3012 and a 3012-B
The original Modulator series has much larger disks compared to the streamlined B series. Basically the same thing but a lower profile “slim” Modulator.

Pretty close. The UltraVoice is set to peak at close to 700 Hz to simulate the analog Whelens that have been installed for 30 years. Small town things. 🙌🏻

Not for long. Now that the new system seems to be functioning as intended, it’ll be a matter of weeks to months before the Whelens are removed.
