I absolutely love watching, factory films, or videos that show the process of things from start to finish. I have never seen this before. Thanx. Loved it.
I understand about the knots. I dont get them that often anyway. What makes me crazy is pulling out a huge tangle and i have to spend who knows how long undoing it.
I didn't see any reason for this glob in the center. I wind my yarn, for my knitting machines, and pull from the center, and I don't get those globs. I wish someone would explain THAT!
Lori Jimerson I know me too! I was a 90s kid so Mr. Rogers was top of my favorite morning shows. And, of course, the crayon making episode was my personal favorite :)
"we need to cut our waste and be more environmental conscious" Wraps two skien together in plastic. I get it makes it easier to ship, but A. You could probably get more like 4 skiens in a row (which is what I typically saw when I worked in a retail craft store) to reduce the plastic:skien ratio B. That's just a really bad visual clip to play right after that audio clip.
# 1 you make a wonderful narrator. # 2 thank you for pointing out why there are knots in the yarn that so many people complain about, which I have never understood why they make such a big deal out of. # 3 now I really love my 1 pound Caron balls of yarn and wish I still lived in NC!!
I have so many of these big skeins right now. The one thing I like about them is I can make so many hats out of one. I make hats for those in need and this yarn goes so far and for the price it is great. The knots don't bother me.
Thank you Mikey!! This is an awesome tour...I am in love with Caron Yarn so extra special . Thank you for ALL the videos you take time to make for us :)
Honest Mikey, it looks appealing to me whether on the big spool or in whatever size and style it comes in, as i just love wool/yarn. I was drooling at all that lovely wool just waiting on my knitting needles changing it in to something pretty. x
Interesting vid, thanks. So this is not so much how it's made as final processing and packaging. Still cool. In my experience it's not one or two knots in a skein that makes people peevish, it's when we find five or six that we start using bad words.
I don't want to 'jinx' myself, but I don't believe I have ever found anywhere near 5 or 6 in one skein. I guess it would make most anyone very peevish!
As mentioned in the video, that's why the yarn is so cheap. It would cost more money (or the company wouldn't make as much profit) if they only sold balls or skeins without knots. Unfortunately, he didn't say that balls or skeins with multiple knots are sold for less than their knot-less counterparts so part of the gamble is (k)not knowing what you'll get ;)
If you find that many, contact the company that made the yarn. They will probably ask for information from the ball band and send you replacement yarn or a credit.
I love to see how different yarns are made and put together. This video I found was very educational and my children liked to see how the ball was made and why there are so many knots in them. They thought it was very good that saving costs less on our pockets and environment and they get to wear a good jumper that's been hand knitted by mum 🙌 thank you Mikey!
This was a really cool and informative video. I've never been to a yarn factory and sometimes as I crochet I do wonder how its made. Thank you for showing us! 😊
Loved this video....Caron One Pound is one of my very favorite yarns to crochet afghans. I love the beautiful colors and the weight and feel of the yarn. I have about 23 skeins in my "cart" on Yarnspirations right now!!!
Mikey, I know this is not a new video, but I just have to comment on it. I love to see it being made and to know when I pick up a skein in the store -- I will know how it got to be a skein! :) I wonder if a person would get really tired of yarn if they actually get tired of seeing it! I wouldn't like that.
I love the video, but it would be perfectly possible to do it without the knots and with zero waste. Some small manufacturers do this where I live (part of Europe). There's a small piece of machinery in between that sort of combs the end of the first yarn and start of the second, overlap them and then twist them together. The bound is not as strong as rest of the yarn, but it is smooth and once knitted or crocheted, it becomes as strong as rest of it. It's pretty neat. I'm sorry that I can't explain better, I've seen this only once and that kind of machinery isn't my strong point, but I heard it is used quite a lot. Not sure why big manufacturers don't use it, maybe it increases some cost or something, though the yarn that I bought from the one I've seen using this machinery was not expensive. Some small manufacturers also have a person that does this, instead of knotting, but that definitely increases the cost (because of payment of the people who do it, I guess...).
I am in love, and jumping up and down :) I need ,and I mean Need about 30 lbs of yarn -oh my gosh can you just think of how many afghans I could make with them :)
Amazing....who thought of these machines??? I love both Caron One Pound and Caron Simply Soft...Simply Soft just doesn't give you enough yardage and for bigger projects like blankets I'll use One Pound because it's cost effective...
This is a terrific video, love seeing how this is done. Also, the 2nd time I watched it I found the button to make larger and then it was really cool. Thanks Mikey, great job.
Fascinating! I've always wondered what a yarn factory looks like and now I know! I've seen cheese being made in Tillamook, now I can add yarn to that list. Great narrative Mikey. You explained it all very clearly. Thanks for sharing.
wow this is so cool its big and ming is small this would be like yarn heaven it is perfect for making big blankets this is big so it can cover my feet when im sleeping without it my feet would be so cold but with the blanket I would be warm in each cold day so I would volunteer to buy this red looking thing I ming this red yarn
Oh wow that's the same color I'm an making some gloves right now for my daughter, as a xmas gift for its always cold here in Pa.🌲 During winter. Thank you Mikey for this video🐝🐝🐝
Great video thank you Mikey. I adore Caron yarn it’s without a doubt my favourite. I’ve never seen the one pound in the uk though sadly. Hope you’re having and amazing day xxx
I absolutely love watching, factory films, or videos that show the process of things from start to finish. I have never seen this before. Thanx. Loved it.
I could never work in a place like this, I would be in yarn heaven and want to try everyone of them out......
Same lol 🧶🧶
I've always wondered how these types of skeins are wrapped. This was really cool!
I understand about the knots. I dont get them that often anyway. What makes me crazy is pulling out a huge tangle and i have to spend who knows how long undoing it.
My exact thought! I hate when I can't find the inner end at the beginning.
Agreed!
I stopped pulling from the center of a yarn ball, a long time ago. Now I knit from the outside only.
Susan Tunney how come? I typically fund it easier going from the inside.
I didn't see any reason for this glob in the center. I wind my yarn, for my knitting machines, and pull from the center, and I don't get those globs. I wish someone would explain THAT!
I would overdose on yarn if I worked there.
You and me both!lol! My husband would kill me!
a more accurate title would be " how yarn is formed into skeins". The yarn itself arrives to this processing plant already "made".
It's "how yarn is prepared and packaged" which seems pretty accurate to me. Not sure if they changed the title since you posted (?)
Very informative! I love that it’s processed in the USA 🇺🇸 Thank you for sharing this Mikey ❤🧶
Excellent video Mikey! I love how you explained the knots, and how it keeps cost and waste down!
Just had a flash back to an episode of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood on how the crayons were made
Lori Jimerson I know me too! I was a 90s kid so Mr. Rogers was top of my favorite morning shows. And, of course, the crayon making episode was my personal favorite :)
Yeah! This reminded me too!
+Lori Jimerson Mr. McFeely would deliver the videos, oh the memories.
that was always my favorite picture picture😊
I loved that episode!! Lol!

Jessica Onymous I was thinking the exact same thing.
I love these types of educational videos. I can't get too many! This was fascinating, thank you.
Thanks Mickey for taking us beyond the purchase into its beginning.

With all the potential for something to go wrong, it’s amazing the skeins get to us at all with what is really a minimum of issues.
I have so many of these big skeins right now. The one thing I like about them is I can make so many hats out of one. I make hats for those in need and this yarn goes so far and for the price it is great. The knots don't bother me.

wow even better than the discovery channel!!! wish i could get my hands on those balls of yarn!!!

Omg a fiber artist heaven. All that yarn.
Great Job Mikey. It was like I was there in person. Loved it.
Mr. Rogers would be proud of you! Great factory walk through! (-;

Wow, thought I was in yarn heaven, thank you, very impressive.
So soothing to watch. I don't know why.
WOW! The video was quite interesting. My first yarn sale was a fun experience. I will certainly return next time.
I'd like to have that whole warehouse full of yarn!! lol
I really enjoyed this video. I'd never seen how yarn is put into skeins. This was great. Thank you. I enjoy all your videos. Great work.
Thank you Mikey! It would be great to see more of this as you tour other factories in your travels!
That was very interesting to watch. Thanks Mikey's! Oooooh and all that yarn!!!
Omg imagine being a lucky worker who can get/buy all the odds n ends etc for cheap 🤤
That was the neatest thing I have seen all day
Look at all that yarn! Thanks for sharing this. Very interesting!
I could defiantly NOT work in the yarn factory. Thanks for this tutorial Mikey. I personally do not mind the knots in the yarn. 😁👍
Wonderful! My burning question is, how do they dye variegated yarn?
good question
Go to part 2 of this series. In fact it's on the right of your page above. It states -How yarn is made: how yarn is dyed part 2.
They need to sell yarn in large quanitys like this ! Now I feel cheeted !
Don't know about commercial yarn, but hand dyed variegated yarn is typically kettle dyed. Essentially drip dyed while skeined up.
My absolute favorite yarn to work with!!!
this is the most fascinating video yet... thank you for the info...I will never look at a ball of yarn the same again... lol
I will accept knots in my yarn, in order to have less waste and lower cost. Interesting video.
I love CARON yarn, ssssooooo soft fo a scarf, hats. nice job, Thank fôr upload.
Really enjoyed watching the video, found it very informative and your narration was great.
The knots have never bothered me 🥰

Thanks so much for the video, Mikey! What an interesting process, and wow those operators are so fast and talented.
Wow that was amazing. Thank you so much for sharing
Thank you so very much for doing a video where and how the Caron one pound yarn balls/skeins are made. :)
I love the video, but it would be perfectly possible to do it without the knots and with zero waste. Some small manufacturers do this where I live (part of Europe). It's called splicing and has been done for as long as rope needed to be made longer.
I had no idea how this was done. Thanks!
I am in love, and jumping up and down :) I need ,and I mean Need about 30 lbs of yarn -oh my gosh can you just think of how many afghans I could make with them :)
do we get a free sample at the end of the tour? :)
