The Pentax 6x7 is a SLR medium format system film camera for 120 and 220 film made by Pentax. It originally debuted in 1965 as a prototype dubbed the Pentax 220. Since then and with improvements, it was released in 1969 as the Asahi Pentax 6×7, as well as the Honeywell Pentax 6×7 for the North American import market. It would later receive a number of engineering updates and cosmetic changes and be re-named as the Pentax 67.
I worked at KEH Camera for like 2 years , and every time I got a Pentax 67 to test, it made me so happy. Those cameras are siiiiiiick.
No secret, it's in the manual. Not a "Hack".
yo you're just wasting your time, they don't know shit
Doesn't this crack you up? The stuff they're calling hacks now are things we took for granted back in those days, Right?
Well, I just got the 6x7 and had never seen this on other videos.
Love the Pentax 67, I bought two of them in 1991 and I still have them in mint condition, I’ve got for or five of the lenses , The Polaroid back, all the viewfinders, the magnification eyepiece, The 67 hard camera case, The flash, the 2x converter , The extension tube set, with all of the boxes they came in and the manuals. I love those cameras, World famous Photographer Santa D’Orazio shot the Victoria’s Secret catalog for years on a Pentax 67. Along with the big book of Pam Anderson. The fashion world love the Pentax 67, and I did know that little trick. Thank you for a great show👍🏻
Hi Carey! Do you happen to know anyone who is selling their Pentax 67? I've been trying to find a US seller for a while. Thanks!
Thank you for this great video, please post more, apart from a few gray hairs he only looks a bit older, i would never say that he had been a photographer of over 30+ years 😇🙂 nice easy relaxed and friendly style of presentation is a joy to watch. Bless.
My favorite medium format camera! This specific detail in this camera is really impossible to know without any information. I imagine how many people who sold these cameras for cheap prices thinking it was broken!
As the old saying goes; 'One mans junk is another mans treasure' 🙂
The "hack" or trick to cocking the shutter without loading film is pretty well known and appears in other YT videos. It's not the only way to cock the shutter without film. When the camera was being sold new by Pentax, on request they would give you a little key which inserts in the body just below the advance lever and does the same thing. It's covered in the manual. The same key is commonly sold on ebay to those stupid enough to pay up to $45 for one. As for "not much information on the Pentax 67", it has probably been the subject of more YT video than any other medium format film camera, and the info on the wider internet is almost limitless.
This tip is in almost every single Pentax 67 video I’ve seen? How have you not?
you can find this information everywhere, on RUclips and even in manual
I bought a Pentax 67 back when I was a student at the Art Institute in 1998. I learned that trick by mistake one day messing around with the camera. I wish Pentax/Ricoh would have made a digital version instead of using the 645 body.
its an amazing camera! do you still use it?
tylershields I sold all my film stuff years ago. I use a Sigma SD H and the Sony A9 now. I love your work and channel! Take care!
No, it's not close to 4x5 size. A 4x5 negative is three times larger than a 6x7.
they are talking about the aspect ratio not the literal negative
Nice video Thank you

I have a question about the PENTAX 67 . I have the 105, 55 and 75 all SMC pentax. For some reason, with the 105 and the 75, when I stop down the aperture in manual mode, it also stops down the lens. So if my lens is at 22, I can't even see what I'm trying to get in focus because it's too dark. The only lens that doesn't stop down is the 55 - I can see a bright screen at all apertures. Do you know why this happens to the 105 and 75 but not the 55? i have to focus wide open and then fix my fstop its pretty annoying. Do you have this issue or is my copy defective? the viewfinder is only bright in all apertures if i ahve the lens in automatic mode once i switch to anything lower than f11 i basically cant see anything in the viewfinder its wayyy too dark.
heyy Tyler, where can i find the video from Rich Cook that he promised to make about the Pentax 67? ;-) looking forward to it!
snap!
thanks for the effort putting this up
duddde.. i look up from my 6x7 camera 3:49 and see pale girl gliding down the stairs.. a cold chill just went up my spine..
My favorite camera.
Everyone knew this hack in the 1970s. Very few people bothered to do this hack. They were too busy shooting film. The danger of the hack is you think you have film in it when you haven't and miss a precious shot.
Peter Hurley the headshot guy has a video about his favorite camera the Pentax 67.
The only hack I think is set shutter dial to empty space it will flip the mirror and you can lock it like that
Rich, What happened to making that video?
is that a magnifier on the viewfinder ?
great tip, but @nicos photography show published this trick back on Jun 29, 2016 :)
Awesome! I’ve been shooting with the Pentax 67ii for about two years now and it’s my favorite camera to shoot with. I also own a Hasselblad 501, Rolleiflex 2.8f, and a Nikon F3. And while I love those cameras as well when I’m something important I will always reach for my Pentax 67
cause of the automatic exposure
Bragging.
I'm blind as well. what Diopter is that on the camera? Great video Tyler!
There's plenty of videos on RUclips showing this. Great camera
3:43 !!! LMAO..
Sidenote: did Rich Cook ever make that youtube + do that 6X7 tutorial / recap video ?!
Well, that is real common knowledge, can't think that a serious P67 user would not know that stuff.
Bruh, @3:45 LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Is the polariod back pentax STILL just a pentax with all its glory? or am I getting a different version? Also can I change the polariod back with a regular one later?
Yes, the polaroid back is just an accessory, you can change it with a regular one but they are really hard to find, and polaroid backs are not so useful in these days
Amusing how some folks can believe all their first experiences are unique, almost triumphant , and require sharing. Even using a camera that did not change all that much in over thirty years of production going back to 1969. 2nd gen 1976 added mirror lock up (MLU) and P67 ll 1999 added AE.
Next weeks video: and this is me operating a 4 speed manual in a 1970 VW bug. Oh the wonder of it.
damn, let Rich finish talking lol
Anyone know what lens that is that looks fisheye? Just got the Pentax with the 105 but that fisheye looks like it could be interesting
Rich is siiick
if only he would make a channel
For anyone watch this video, dont freaking try to test the camera without the film by press down like they said. It will ended up make your camera has spacing issue ( cause 9 exposure instead of 10). Just don’t fucking do it
It is good to own a comb.
Was the video ever made?
You say this negative is close to a 4 x 5". Pentax neg is 3752 sq mm. 4 x 5" is almost 13,000 sq mm. You weren't being literal but this may be helpful.
will the video talk about overcoming that 1/30s flash sync? That's my only hold up with this camera
Geetist I mainly use flash in my work, but this would be nice for outdoor work
There are two leaf shutter lenses for the Pentax 67 family, the 75 and I believe the other is the 150mm. Leaf shutter lenses usually allow you to synch at any speed.
That image at 1:20 dough. If you are interested in selling a 20x30 copy of that image, I am interested in hearing a price.
Wow! What lenses did you use for your wide shots?
35mm by the looks of them
Where is the whole video?
That’s...it?
knew this long long ago...
the first photographer i ever knew passed last year, he got his start shooting for the ira in belfast during the troubles-he shot on a pentax k-1000 for the cause. now i shoot often with vintage pentax glass-best tip i ever got in my life.
you guys keep calling it the “pentax 67” - yet the REAL name of that camera is “THE TEXAS LEICA” ...
I've only heard the Fuji GW690 referred to as the Texas Leica. There's probably a hand full of cameras out there with the same nickname though.
Hey Dummy, you are 100% wrong about what the Texas Leica is, because I own two of them and they are Fuji 6x9 rangefinder film cameras. Dumb ass!
Yes, Danvil is right. " Texas Leica" refers to the Fuji 6x9 as it is a rangefinder. I have 3 of them plus a couple of Pentax 67 s.
awesome video and that def looks like on hefty camera!
thanks for sharing this great content with us!
really enjoyed watching this
what is his youtube chanel?
I need that video.
Horrible clickbait title! This is no hack at all
less than half the size of 4x5inch isn't close to it!
Common knowledge
you dweebs it's in the manual...lol
Clickbait
O come on…. Lame…. First thing any 67 user learns. Don’t waste time here.
