A hawker stall started business by the roadside located next to Queenstown Library before moving to the opposite hawker centre. Selling at from 50 cents to 70 cents with/without eggs. I had my first CKT in 1965.
I was his regular customer then before I moved out of Queenstown. A young teenager entrepreneur who started his own CKT business… is indeed very inspiring!
It started early 1960s at the side road before the Queenstown Library was built. He stood on a wooden crate to fry. Some bring their plate and egg at 20 cent a plate.
My fabulous favourite CKT uncle.. a hidden gem at TB… formerly from Margaret Drive. Surprised he let u film because with more publicity, he wouldn’t be able to cope as he is already overwhelmed with hungry customers.

3:38 unhygienic practice , why does he need to wipe the side of the plate with a disgusting cloth . Just leave it , and pass the plate . The customer will know where to put their finger on the plate . Another stall near the area , the assistant will use the dirty table cloth to wipe the Ta bao paper before putting the noodle on it . That stall is great but i will never order take away . Last i saw they are still wiping the Ta bao paper surface with the dirty cloth which they also use for wiping the table . Can send these hawkers to food hygiene refresher course please ?

Those who knows how to eat good traditional char kuay tiow will know that its colour supposed to be brown , not black . Black is bcos too much sweet n black sauce were added .n it will lost its original true frangance . Its yammy bcos its sweet . Just like thai food . A full sppon of sugar were added into every dish .
frankly with no other ill intention to comment regarding other char kway teow chefs along with their usual customers kept promoting theirs got "wok hei" smell which is not correct at all. don't what they called it chow tar smell which is really misleading. since Margaret Drive hawker from L2 to L1, what Mr. Teochew uncle Meng's master piece of CKT which he can bring back to fry, deliver was an authentic indescribable old coffee shop rustic smell of CKT just during the 1960s/1970s but not "wok hei" smell. his CKT delivers a savory smell of garlic, eggs & black semi-sweet sauce being blended upon the first taste & not salty unlike others some uses fish sauce. upon his retirement, this is it already !!! don't waste time searching to compare within this island or Malaysia. the only consolation was to reminisce his original taste of CKT once if you're free to ask your brain to recall as long as possible. His CKT is second to none. power & original one. those who claimed other stalls like at Hxxg Lim Hawker or Grxxt World Hawker which 're on par with, can't make it at all. an old uncle, a customer of Hai Kee did advise me regarding those who want to makan CKT with so-called "wok hei" or "chow tar" smell means don't know how to or no exprience in makaning CKT. 😅🤣🤣🤣
