For me, the big 3's greatest upsets in early rounds are>
    Fed > WI'13
    Nad > FO'09
    Djo > AO'17
Partly because its at their own home grounds and at a time when they were all defending champions no one in holy world would have expected it..And i guess thats what upset means anyways

Novaks is undoubltey the loss the Sam Querry wimbledon 2016. His cracks were starting to show by 2017 AO. At Wimbledon 2016 he had just won all 4 slams and was 2 time defending champion. No one could have seen him losing in the 3rd round that year.

    • @Mark-ut5oq

Except even to call it an “upset” in Novak’s and Roger’s case is almost a stretch. Novak had a brutal year in 2017 and was injured, and Roger was similarly bad in 2013. Yes they were officially “upsets,” but if you looked at their form for those respective years, it wasn’t all that surprising.
For me, an upset is when a player is healthy and in (or close to) top form and he get shocked by a lesser player. Nadal 2009 FO is truly the biggest upset given how unbeatable he was there, and considering he was not bad that year by any stretch.

No, I don't think these are biggest or the most surprising defeat for these guys. For Nadal I think his lost to Darcis at 2013 Wimbledon, Federer's most surprising losses all came from Wimbledon. He lost in 2018 to Kenneth Anderson after leading 2:0 and had a match point in the 3rd set and lost in five, Federer also lost to Tsonga after leading by 2 sets, then there is his loss to Ukrainian player in 2013. For Djokovic the most surprising loss is his loss to Istomin in 2017 Australian Open.
