- Not sure how many of you read these descriptions but I got a rad compressor from Eastwood Tools that only reaches 60db at its max. It is a great setup for anyone who builds their rigs in their garage and likes to listen to music, or themselves think while not having to listen to an obnoxious compressor. I also couldn't be happier as I bought my own vehicle lift for my shop. We install the vehicle lift and the compressor lines using some different techniques that you may not have seen before.

I'm eyeballing one of their Multi process welders...
You need ohio plate
I don't think I have ever been excited to see someone else get a lift until now. Good on you. 😊😊😊
And he actually paid for it. 💪🏽
You should plum the old compressor tank in as a secondary storage tank
The oil you collected from your funnel tree could be used in an oil can for a lube for cutting or drilling, or even things like car door hinges. I thought your tree idea was awesome. BTW we will miss you in the black hills SD. I'm from Rapid City.
Setting aside the arguments about using PVC water Pipe as air lines. I suggest two things- Paint or protect the pipe where sunlight hits it and install a flex line from the compressor to the pipe. This will extend the life of the pipe as UV rays will weaken and damage this type of pipe. The flex line will minimize the vibrations transmitted to the supply line. The vibrations can cause stress cracks around the joints and cause leaks. Anyways, Thanks for the the episode.
I don,t think PVC valves are rated for air and will leak
The use of PVC pipe for air compressor lines is common, but is ultimately NOT RECOMMENDED for use in this context. Air compressor PVC pipe is often used because it is readily available, inexpensive, and easy to install. However, as with many plastics, PVC air line material gets brittle over time and can crack, break, or even shatter. The presence of air compressor oils in the line and heat from the compressed air accelerates the degradation of PVC for air lines. These failures, combined with air under pressure, are potentially fatal due to the airborne, razor-sharp shrapnel. It is also an OSHA violation to use PVC for compressed air distribution, which means you could incur a hefty fine. In other words, the answer to the question, "Can you use PVC for air lines?" is a resounding, "No."
@@douglasholt05don’t tell that to the 100000000 guys with pvc garage systems
Copper would be ideal
But in this world that’s $1000
@@douglasholt05I bought my shop in the 80s with pvc airline and shutoff valves with no problems
Agree, PVC is not really safe long term. ABS and HDPE pipe is safe for air.
Agree, paint all PVC exposed to sunlight, even reflected sunlight inside of shop.
Agree, flex line from compressor is good idea.
Condensation in NM isn't a huge problem, but I suggest runnng airlines on a slight grade with drain points at all low points to drain water off.
I have automatic drain valve on all my compressors, so every time they cycle any water is drained off.
People suck for stupid comments and questions. Live your life. Owe no one any explanations. Keep up the entertaining content.
Your funnel tree is great i did the same thing after i seen you do that
The manufacturing company that I worked for used schedule 80 cpvc for compressed air distribution. It was installed by a reputable mechanical systems company. No problems were seen for the 25 years that I worked there. The piping was a connected loop manifold system to ensure uniform pressure throughout.
The system has a 200 gallon storage tank and a refrigerated air dryer downstream of the 150 cfm screw compressor.
Side note on use of teflon tape...leave the first 1 or 2 threads unwrapped. This will prevent bits of tape breaking off and finding their way into solenoid valves and other places that will cause an equipment problem.
Colt, i am so happy you finally have a lift. You have needed one forever, but your old shop was like mine. Too short of ceilings. Im disappointed that no lift manufacturers reached out to help you out. You deserve, at the minimum, some help aquiring one.
I was thinking that the box the Compressor came in would be a GREAT cover to keep it out of the weather. Some paint and shingles on the top, done. Maybe some vents for air circulation too.
not gonna second guess your compressor and air - but man I've always dreamed of having a big 'ol compressor.. on the other side of the wall. I wanna build a little shed with a separate slab to house the air compressor. Man, I'd love to go out with ya when you come up to wheel Alaska!
Your shop is turning out very nice Colt! Good job!
Hey Colt, on your lift there are two black plastic knock outs on the post to tighten and adjust the cables. Just lift the arms up until you can see the nuts and you can tighten them.
That would've been nice in the instructions, lol
@@coltbuildsit Another thing that may not be in the instructions... When you set up the cable tension to lift the arms, set it so the safety catches "CLICK" a fraction of a second apart. That way you will have an audible indicator that both of the arms have passed the safety catches. So when you are lifting you hear a "CLICK,CLICK" instead of just "CLICK".
May I suggest running a 45 degree off the bottom of your drain valve at the compressor with maybe a couple inches of PVC out the end so that when you do drain water or are needing to relieve air pressure from the tank you are not decreasing the stability of the awesome pad Shanna(sp) and Ian(sp) built? Just a thought :) I am so happy for you to have gotten your lift! Well deserved! The shop is coming along nicely and appreciate you taking us along during the build process. If the good Lord sees fit that I may one day take that vacation I have been wanting to take to visit all my favorite RUclipsrs, you are most definitely going to be on that list. Looking forward to seeing the lift in action on an upcoming video. Again, thank you for sharing and looking forward to the next
Glad you got you lift finally.
You and me both
Colt I'm so proud of you.
You installed your own lift. I have not seen another RUclips guy do that.
Congrats.
I used to live at 7,000 ft in Cuba, NM....on occasion it would snow 20" and drop to -20° F.
Pole Barn Garage installed his own, too. He then discovered that his concrete slab was actually too thin, not just too thin on paper, so he took it back out. It's been a while, but as I recall it tried to pull the bolts out of the floor when he put a car on it. That video may have wound up on his brother's channel instead of his.
Your shop is coming along nicely! I'm so happy you finally got a big shop!
Yes! Thank you!
Love the new shop!
It's called a slim Jim to unlock the older doors 😂
Your in New Mexico, I would definitely put some kind of cover over the compressors and add maybe a small shed, out of sight, out of mind. You don’t want to flip the switch and nothing happens on the other end.
Pro tip. Use a piece of fuel line to start your spark plugs. And if your spark plug socket misses the rubber, just get them loose then use the hose- right on out that hole.
This is the best way.
You do you. Ignore the haters and bad comments. Shop is looking awesome 🤘
COLT CONGRATULATIONS i am so very happy for you to have what you have wanted for many years. A lift and now a quiet air compressor. Huge shop. And thriving channel. Live watching good luck in Washington.
Thanks so much!!
I like the funnel tree think its a great idea.
Your shop is coming along nicely Colt. Congratulations on your lift and new compressor. My compressor is quiet like your and I love it. Take care and catch you on your next video. P.S. I for one loved your funnel idea.
The shop is coming together. The pvc air lines will work. I have seen pvc used for a dental shop air line and ran for 20 years without fail. I would recommend painting the exterior white pvc line or get like a mini split conduit cover so the UV rays dont degrade the air line. Nice vid!
We all had Toyotas and Jeeps. One of our friends had an International Scout. We referred to it as the “Farm Implement”.
If there is a fellow that can use a lift, it is Colt. About time! Congrats
Right on Colt , wow a new RAD compressor and a new RAD lift your Killin it. Can't wait to see the lift working. The question is what's gonna be the first vehicle on it lol. Thanks for the video bro can't wait for the next one.
Cool content as Allways Colt....its "Your Shop" bulid it the Way YOU want...95% of the people complaining about the PVC pipe..dont have a Shop..and are KeyBoard Mechanics...was Hoping for some Pacer stuff....next time i hope...stay Rad Brother....
Funnel tree best ideal EVER!!!!
Love the funnel tree, I personally throw a rag in my funnels between uses to limit how much I need to clean out before each use.
Thanks for the discount code!! The shop is looking awesome!! All love and respect to you and yours Colt!! And wishing you all the well deserved success brother!!!
Same to you, thanks
So happy for you brother. You needed that for sure 😊
Congrats on the shop upgrades man, you deserve it.
Another HOME RUN video. Keep it up. You ARE THE MAN!!
I remember the day my 2 post arrived
My back and knees rejoiced and have been happy ever since 👍👍
And pvc is fine in the shop for the airlines. The outside line needs covered only because of the UV.
Keep on buildin 💪😎
I haven't used my 2 post since I got a 4 post years ago
Shannon with her Multi Purpose Rock Locker Mud Digger Shovel Sandals…. Classic. Shop is coming along great.
I really like your channel!!
My old 1958 Champion can keep up wit me using a da sander and just about anything else. It's not silent but you can't hear it from a distance. Those big old cast iron cylinders are quiet. I don't know why the new ones are so loud except the lightweight compressor design. That Eastwood is probably the quitest new on I have ever heard.
It is crazy quiet
The USN has been using Rotary compressors for control and service air on ships since the mid 70's.. they were quiet... Very important when your ship is a sub hunter
That's cool
👍🏽🇺🇸👍🏽 congratulations on the lift. And compressor
Colt, shop is looking great. Bi am just going to reiterate what others have said, PVC is ok short term, go with galvanized or other pipe. For compressor outside, make a cover over it to protect from heat and put a flex hose to compressor from pipe. Glad you got the lift, sad you couldnt get one sponsored.
Colt if you really never wanted too you take your old compressor and plumb the two tanks together and that would give you even more reserve so that your compressor kicked on even less. And then you could put power on your old one so if for some reason your Eastwood was down you'd still have air. Just a thought.
The danger of pvc is not rupture from pressure. The danger is if you hit the pvc while under pressure, it can Crack and send shrapnel flying. I use it in my shop!!
A tip for sizing up your compressor
What is the recommended
CFM cubic feet per minute and at what psi
Then just look for a compressor that will meet our exceed those requirements
A orbital sander needs 6 to 9 cfm at 90 psi
So check the specs on your compressor to see if it will work
We used to call those Slim Jim's.
For popping door locks.
Also known as a LA credit card.
...or ghetto keys 🤣
When you buy them they're still called slim jims
FYI, don't get rid of your other compressor you can use the tank to get extra air capacity i.e. tandem it to your new compressor, remove the compressor from the old tank then plumb in down stream
So awesome your wife is not afraid of getting in there and helping out. Most wifes stay inside the house 😂😂😂
That wasn’t just a metric adjustable wrench. I’m pretty sure it’s a left handed metric adjustable wrench and you were still able to use it right handed. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The black circles on the posts are to get the cables tight and level the arms for the lift
You can hook up the little compressor to the big one and use as an air make up system. For big jobs . I work at shops that tried to use plastic pipe and it always failed , the pipe was supposed be the correct type . It was definitely existing watching 3” plastic pipe flying across a ceiling when it exploded 😎
I worked at Lowe's years ago and bought the 30-gallon tank from a busted upright air compressor. A few fittings later I had a large portable air tank that would also work as a surge tank to double my capacity on the volume-heavy tools and lower the cycles.
I am really enjoying watching you set up your new shop. I just built a tube steel shop as well. You are giving me great ideas on how to set my shop up. Thanks for the info.
Great variety of content Colt, awesome channel
I'll send you my Ontario plates that have a bunch of parking tickets still owing. When you put the plate on your board and show it on youtube you can expect the collection company to contact you...😎
On the air release outside that you did put an elbow on it it won’t hurt it and it won’t dig up your ground like it was great job. Love the lift.
Happy that you finally got a lift but disappointed you weren't sponsored for it.
On your hose reels you can adjust the hose stops, loosen the screws and move the stop to the proper length that will work for you!
Wow. That compressor is pretty awesome man !!!!!
Very similar shop build/design that I did. Haven’t got the lift yet but had a similar idea of being 4’ off the wall. My question is that enough room to pull an axle? Thanks Colt loving your new channel 🇨🇦
I think that was a marvelous idea, actually, and you're right? Anytime I use a funnel, I wipe it out. No matter if it's land on the bench, I was stuck in the injury compartment for later. Yes, I just wipe it out.Make sure I get it all
Sweet. Congrats on lift. And air compressor.
Dang bro, That is a super rad air compressor to keep outside. Sweet Liberty content at the end!!
Just my opinion, I would connect the old compressor tank if for nothing else just the extra volume. I have a used 250 gallon propane tank I plan on doing the same.
This was "uplifting".
I've drooled over that same compressor myself.
Jimmy Jack, I was always told Slim Jim. I have a master lock out kit from before they added the little airbags for pumping the top of the door open. Most vehicles that I unlock. I can get open in 5-10 minutes as long as I have the right hook to get down under the glass and back up to the lock or door handle.
For getting the spark plugs in a bit easier, I use a chunk of 1/4 clear vinyl hose to get the plug down in the hole and started.
I am Loving your shop set-up.
Got to love oiled air compressors.
Funnel tree is a great thing.
Here is my two cents on using PVC on compressed air....
I have been in the maintenance field for manufacturing facilities my entire life. Every facility had compressed air. The only time I had issues with Schedule 40 PVC was when I had to demo a system that was held to the rafters with bailing wire. When I cut the wire it sprung down and pierced a vein in my arm. Rusty and dusty...Had to get a Tetanus shot...
Now, if I were to use PVC, I would use Schedule 80...( the grey stuff), which can handle more pressure and I believe is more UV tolerant.
Also, adding 1" line in that sized shop really does not add a lot of volume. It adds flow, but you are chocking it down to 3/8" hose anyway.
I would plumb the outlet from your new compressor into the LARGE receiver tank on the red one. which will add "volume"!
Additionally, you could hook up the red compressor and set it 5-10 PSI lower than the new, and it would be in "lag" mode. Meaning if you exceeded the capabilities of your new compressor, it will kick on to assist.
How about I build your shop, you build my Jeep?
I love the content!!!!
Congrats on the lift, so jealous!
My lift installer said not to use an impact on those concrete bolts because it shatters the concrete.
Love watching your videos thanks. You are good people. A tip for your compressor base pavers. Place a 2'x3' x 1/2"pece of plywood between the pavers and wheels to stop the vibration through the wheels causing uneven paver settlement. Also, IMO you should have set up your air hose reels at diagonally opposite corners to get max shop coverage and way better front exterior coverage.
Can I request keeping your International grill in the old school International Red and White color scheme? That would look so great on the grill wall!
Whole shop is coming along great! You obviously put a lot of thought into how everything functions and coordinates in the build process.
Every time I watch, I enjoy your videos more. Some times I miss Colorado.
I would definitely put a lean to or something over that awesome little compressor. The plastic hoses will hold up better out of direct sunlight. They get brittle over time. Can't wait to see all you get done with all the new equipment!!
Shop is turning out great!
Congrats on your new lift and compressor Colt. 🎉 very needed shop items.
You can adjust how far the hose retracts by loosening the snubber that keeps the hose from retracting into the reel and shortening the amount that hangs out. Thus no head "smacking."
Thank you Colt for the update on how things are going there in New Mexico !
Good work colt 😊shop is coming along nicely 😊
Thanks 👍
Who is Ian? Colt’s son? I know Colt is in New Mexico but Colt, protect that beautiful compressor.
You're gonna love having a lift and shop air!! Also FYI, Slim Jims are still legal in California. I believe you have to be a licensed Auto Mechanic or Tow Truck driver though.
Did a little more research. One of the issues is even though PVC pipe has a high pressure rating the issue is the glue joints, also talks about it not being ductile and does not "flex" You might want to read article by Fluid-Air Dynamic on PVC Hope it helps, chance are will serve your well for sometime.
Congrats on the new stuff. You are going to get flack about PVC for air lines. I thought the same as you for my shop but I ended up using PEX piping instead. As an old iron worker I did cringe a few times watching you install the lift. I was taught not to impact the anchor bolts because it could enlarge the hole and reduce grip strength. Think about making a three sided enclosure to protect the compressor and keep the sun from deteriorating the hoses. I have to admit that I would be the first one to hit that glass jar with my foot. Lol
Keep chugging along and stay safe.
It's been fun watching you set your shop up. I like the way you laid everything out.
Shop is coming along nice man!
Great job Colt 🤠
Still have slim Jims at Loves truck stops here in NE Nevada
build an outdoor work bench on top of the compressor. Protect the compressor and have a work surface
When you grab any one of my funnels you will find a blue shop rag stuffed into the small end of the funnel. The rag is put in the funnel in the direction of flow.
That way I can wipe the dust and other crap that is attracted by the oil.
Yeppers, that compressor is killer dud. Must have one 😊.
I'm so excited for you man!
When I have to install a spark plug down a tube I slip some rubber fuel line over the end. Helps to both gently get it down the tube so it doesn’t crash and possibly close your gap but also allows you to hand start your threads before applying the torque of a ratchet that can possibly screw up your threads if misaligned.
If you are really worried about dirt in the funnels you could put rags or even shower caps over them. But like you said wipe them out. I like the funnel tree.
2:15 Top to bottom. The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden.
Congrats on the lift Cole! It truly is a game-changer... 👍
Use the tank on the old compressor for more storage. Be great if you paint a lot.
You could plumb in the red compressor too for capacity
Thanks Colt !! Good stuff as usual....I can't wait for the Pacer to get there.... you guys are crushing it. God bless you and your beautiful family brother ❤️🇺🇲
Good to see it all coming together. Thanks, Colt.
Hey Court, I enjoy your show. My name is Val. I live in Napa in my shop. I had a compressor in like the Brooke blow out. My head is so loud this guy that was smarter than I was told me to put a automobile muffler on the intake side of the compressor and I thought what the heck did I do so I swallowed a big piece of pie did it and it was impossible it was so quiet try it hope it works. I like your show. Thank you.
